There was only one good thing about this place. The ambience was absolutely lovely, and the renovation made the place feel very bright. The service was very positive, and although had to come back a few times for them to say we couldn't have certain things, this was one of the better parts of the experience.
However, the food was a big let down. The chips were stale, the ham didn't really taste of ham, just a soft block of salt, and eggs were oily and hard. We had a cold pork chop that was more fat than pork. Clearly choosing a pork chop was the wrong decision for someone who doesn't like fat, but it was still a shock when cutting off the fat filled a plate bigger than the bowl of pork. It too was cold. The steak cooked well, but sadly was only warm. The bread was cold and chewy and although the flavour was good, it was ruined by one piece being burnt and tasting of oily char.
The chowder starter was more like a tasting dish. It lacked depth, and just tasted like a sour cream and didn't taste of much. The fish in it was lovely, but there were so few pieces which was a bit unfortunate.
Everything was a mixture of oily, stale, cold, or lacked depth and still came to £110 after discretionary service charge.
Not sure it was worth the trip, and a little disappointed given how much I had looked forward to it.
I wanted to like it, but even the members of the party that were more forgiving than me left extremely disappointed.
Hopefully our experience was abnormal and this was just a bad day for them, that our experience is not like how yours will be, but the 45 minute drive for my 21st birthday meal was not worth it and won't be made again. Other reviews look amazing, and I really wish I could have had the food that was served to those people, but I wasn't so this is (unfortunately) the only review I can make.
