I came for the $85 food and wine pairing experience. The winery is beautiful, the grounds are spectacular, and the woman who took care of us was warm and friendly, and knew her stuff about the wine.
The wine was absolutely delicious -- every single wine we tasted. Yes, it's very expensive and thus not an everyday wine for me, but it was worth splurging on a few bottles.
The table for the food and wine event was beautifully set, and it was a really fun experience and I got to meet some interesting new people. The food was phenomenal, and the chef did a great job explaining his choices and what we were eating and why. I've done a lot of wine pairings, and this was truly the best, where every wine perfectly suited the food and vice versa. They were generous with the wine at this event, and there was always something in our glasses.
The only reason I give four starts instead of five is because I called ahead to explain that I didn't eat red meat and asked if they could accommodate me, and they told me the chef would make a substitution. I expected chicken or tofu or even beans instead of the steak, but they just increased the amount of veggies on my plate. They were delicious, but there was no protein in my meal, and not even a slice of bread, piece of cheese, a nut or anything substantial. Drinking wine with just veggies left me loopy for the rest of the day, not to mention that I paid the same as everyone else but didn't get a main course.
This didn't take away from my enjoyment of the winery, but I hope the staff will be more willing and able to accommodate people who want to enjoy a pairing without the beef.
