Google
Great beer selection and great staff. Only establishment I've ever seen in my 36 years that offers free food (pizza) to its customers. Will absolutely be returning

David P.

Google
My first time at the Poor House Brewing Company and I loved it. Met some friends here and tried a couple different IPAs, they were all good. Staff was great and they even had free pizza. Not sure how often they do this, but that was a nice change from most of the other breweries. Will come back to this North Park venue!

Tedd S.

Google
I did not really know what to expect upon arrival. Very open and friendly venue with nice atmosphere. Customer service was a great experience fostering a communicative staff and customer base. Free nachos which is aways a bonus with all the fixings...

Charles

Google
Small brewery with a lot of different beers they brewed on tap.

Joseph W. B.

Google
What a warm, inviting vibe. Everyone is your friend here. Free food too! They had stacked boxes of pizzas today but they told me that otherwise, it's a nachos bar or homemade pastas. They feed you while you drink their beer, not a bad deal!

Alan P.

Google
My "go to bar", when sometimes, I am just in a mood. to hang out with REAL People (most of them Good). If someone is looking for a bar that has a neighborhood vibe, regardless of silly stuff, and want good beer... This is the one.

Adrian M.

Google
Best underated brewery in SD. They welcomed us and we’re incredibly friendly (everyone, from bar staff to security). We ended up partying late and jamming with improv hip-hop battles. Beer is outstanding. Dive-bar vibe is legit. This os my new favorite brewery in San Diego!

Erin F.

Google
As an IPA hater, I love this brewery. Yes, they have plenty of IPAs (this is California), but their non IPAs, from the blonde to the stout and the funky bier de coupage, are great. Plus the atmosphere is chill. Perfect place to enjoy a beer with a football or baseball game.

Yelp
When a mysterious voice asks, "Are you waiting for beer?", the answer is always yes. On a brewery packed day, we were waiting at a bus stop to head to one farther away, one of the few open earlier than the rest. The stop happened to be in front of a closed unmarked brewery with no posted hours. With the bus already in sight, we didn't give it much thought until... Behind me, a voice casually asks, "Are you waiting for beer? We're open." And just like that, we stumbled upon @poorhousebrew . If that's not a sign from the beer gods, I don't know what is! (Spoiler alert: the hours were posted on the inside of the door) The brewery had a modern rustic vibe, with a cozy main bar area. Since it sits on a corner, the next room had wall length windows that fully opened, letting in a perfect breeze and offering a great view of the streets. Such a cool setup. Here are the beers I tried: BBQ Crasher: Sweet, I like it Peeled & Pressed: Light hop profile. Warm taste

Yelp
This is one of the best bars in North Park. And definitely my favorite. Very cozy atmosphere with awesome people and a great selection of beer brewed on the spot. Best place to catch a Padres ga- Man let me just stop right there. I don't want this place to be too well known...hehe

Yelp
I have a running list of SD favorites, and Poor House is now on that there list. Stopped in the first time when my dude and I were looking for breweries we hadn't tried yet. You know when you step inside a spot and you can feel it'll be a good egg? Loved the wooden rafters and Christmas lights, it really does feel like a house with choose-your-own adventure type pockets of space-- the darker bar with the tvs with football on, the airy ledge overlooking the sidewalk, and the adjacent room with lots of light and where the food vendors set up. The bartender who helped us, Laura, was super friendly and wonderful, and we even got to chatting about her time in Japan and she shared recommendations and showed us pictures of the very not-shy deer that she encountered there. It's that kind of place- cozy and easy and welcoming. It was their 10th anniversary, so I had a special edition sour (?) that I loved, and boyf got the blonde (crisp & refreshing), and I went back for the lemonhead seltzer (tastes exactly like the candy). Great crowd there too-- a friend spotted us from the sidewalk and also happened to know the guy next to us who had his sweet dog with him, and we ended up talking to him too. Talk about happy happenstance, and it felt right in this space. Looking forward to coming back and trying out some of those darker beers, as well as their Monday night football and pizza nights!

Yelp
Lots of die-hard football fans watching the game in here while enjoying their beer today and the Neighborhood is changing around here with the apartment high rises being built around it.

R V.

Yelp
This place is super cool. We had went to fall brewing, the sentiment was bad there so we came here. We like the beer, the service was great.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Three stars for the beer (maple brown and donut shop were delicious), extra star for the atmosphere: friendly dive bar meets an Irish bar with punk music. We stayed longer than we planned. :)
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Definitely a local gem. Super divey, super chill, cool vibes. Came here one night for a quick drink and it was a very nice experience. The bar is super mellow, and chill. They allowed us to bring our dogs in. The interior decor was very diverse and grogey which we like. The bartender was super nice, super friendly, and very fast and efficient. We chatted with some of the other patrons and had a wonderful conversation. Everyone here was super friendly. They have a great selection of beers on tap. And they even have doggy treats for your four-legged furry friends. Cool spot to chill out. Highly recommend!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Good beer, chill vibe and free eats. Really, really like this place. I tend towards the dark beers and their Lil Dubliner on Nitro is so good and refreshing. Tried the coffee brown ale and it was great too. You can fill any growler here are well. They don't limit to their own. Seating is relaxed and the place is dog friendly. Sing along with the pups, if you want. Nacho bar is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Pizza is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Regular BBQs occur as well. Not your typical Brewery. So much more. Highly recommend. Just hope it doesn't get trendy....

Yelp
Amazing little spot. Miss Rachel is a wonderful bartender, Chris the firefighter owner has a heart of gold, and they have a wonderful selection of beers (so many IPAs to choose from!). Come here for UFC fight night and they'll have a complimentary nacho bar. They also let you bring outside food. The people really make the place!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
Poor House is a little off the beaten path but still worth a visit. It's a small, uncomplicated kind of bar, maybe even a little divey. They had great beer selections and that night free pizza was offered. The bartender was attentive and the crowd was small enough so we didn't wait long for drinks.
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
This place is badass. Great beer and cool vibes. I need to keep typing to meet the requirements

Maci M.

Yelp
Gross beer. Gross bar. Everything is gross and grimy, tables left with food and beer spilled all over. Flies around the free nacho bar which is just chips and cheese from a crock pot. Ew. The beer signs are posted behind the bar so you have to turn around away from the bartender to see what's available which is super odd. It's got sports bar vibes with loud TVs everywhere which might be your thing. The beer I had was absolutely disgusting and undrinkable. It's the poor house?? What did I expect
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
The go to spot for great beers, great atmosphere and an all around hang out spot. Service is great, free UFC fights, and free food almost every night (check site for details).....wait what? Free food? Yes!. Pool table and foosball also. Make sure you stop by. Chris is the best....
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the ambiance, very hipster grunge vibes. I had the pleasure of enjoying a imperial stout that they brewed in house. Also the free pizza was a nice touch We will definitely be coming back in the future.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Just getting into the beer scene, I usually feel weird asking questions or looking too long at the board. This place is so casual, I felt immediately at ease. I had a couple passion seltzer's to go with my BbQ plate. This little place has been hosting some amazing food vendors and that's what's going to bring me back. Bbq, sandwiches, chicken n biscuits, it's a foodie paradise and maybe I'll learn to enjoy more brews too. I like the back room and open air seating. Obviously not trying to impress with decor or ambiance- that's okay- just keep the menu interesting and we will be back!
google avatar

Keri W.

Yelp
Love this place! We have been patrons on and off over the years but more recently on. They have great beers and they have seltzers as well. The beer is clean, smooth and totally affordable (he has not raised his prices!). They always have some sort of free munchie like nachos which is such a nice touch. The bartenders are always friendly and the place is chill and comfortable. The owner shows UFC fights at no cost!!! This is a great place and you should def go!!
google avatar

Quisha H.

Yelp
Came here from a super packed brewery down the street serving mediocre beer and it was pretty much my friends and 3 or 4 other people which was so lovely from the previous packed house. I opted for the Extra Citrus Quarters and took a seat at one of the barrel tables to continue catching up with my friends. The atmosphere here was so chill and relaxing and the beers were so good and refreshing!! The only downside was them not having A/C and SD was having a heatwave that week, but they did have some giant fans going. Would 1000% come back here for more brews when in SD again.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
A nice spot to order a beer, park on a stool at the bar and sip a good brew. Tried the Summerhaus and the Casa Pobre. Both were very satisfying. Good atmosphere and good service. Dog friendly. Sports on multiple TVs. Peanuts and pretzels are available upon request - complimentary. A very friendly spot with good beer. What more could you ask for?

Jackie L.

Yelp
I thought breweries were kid friendly . Well don't bring your kids here if you think it is, unless u want to be harassed by their "non regulars" and get told to take your ass home with them kids as a local. NEVER had an issue always enjoyed the brewery and their kind employees but never had been harassed like I was about having my kids at a "BAR" by a drunk 25 year old and her grandmother.the disrespect was just woah
google avatar

Hailey M.

Yelp
Great spot! Best beer in town! Service is always fantastic . All the bartenders are always amazing.
google avatar

R P.

Yelp
Good beer. Great service. Free peanuts. What more can you ask for!? An A/C would be cool. But whatever. Pool and shuffle board. Cool.

Edward A.

Yelp
Stopped in for a glass of ale and decided to have two. Very nice neighborhood establishment and plan on going back soon to try a few more of their special brews. To all that read this, stop by and enjoy this unique place.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
In a neighborhood filled with frills, I like to come across places that seem to avoid them. Poor House is a great example of a no-frills kind of joint and I dig it. Though not overly warm or welcoming, Poor House is certainly a neighborhood hang and not much of a destination. Locals belly up, sip their favorite local brew, bring in their own food, and watch the TVs that sit high above the bar. Other patrons casually play pool across the room and the beertenders are sweet and approachable all while keeping your glass full. Is there anything special about Poor House? No, but there doesn't need to be! Come here for what they do best (pouring cold beer) and don't expect much more. If you want bells and whistles I hear there is a circus now open in Liberty Station.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Low key brewery that was a decent to stop in. Streetside patio set up, good selection of classic punk music on the sound system. I will note it was the only brewery we visited where the bartender wasn't wearing a mask. Pretty decent beers, the fruit infused IPAs were the best thing we tried here, but $13 for each flight of 4 samplers is a bit steep. But still worth a stop in if North Park brewing hopping.
google avatar

Halit K.

Yelp
Great beer and friendly staff at Poor House. Great service. Nice place to relax! What more can you ask for,,? Also noleftoverscatering food truck is amazing.Food is different level than other trucks, price performance is the best. Will be back there soon!
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
I've made fun of this place for my entire two years of living in North Park, and there's absolutely no reason why. I think it just has no curb appeal, so I never stopped in because there's so many options in North Park. My friend Sam turned me around today. Service was excellent by Caroline, who unlike the Outkast song is not a bitch at all and should not crash into a ditch. I asked for the best beer and she had a ready answer, and after trying that beer, she was right! A great beer at a reasonable $6 price tag. I'm not convinced I'll be here too often, but it definitely fit the bill tonight.
google avatar

J O.

Yelp
Some bartenderrs are nicer than others. Came in on a Tuesday and everything was great. Tacos, fast beer service, and a quiet atmosphere to drink by yourself, and free peanuts to pass the time. Came in on a Thursday... and with a full hour plus left before close, a different bartender made it seem impossible to get pretzels or peanuts because they we're all already put away. I guess under lock and key, with a timed vault, in a secret hiding place lol. Great beer, great service on Tuesday. Other days are iffy.

Yelp
Super laid back brewery, a great place to come and hang out and watch the game that's on , which is exactly what I did, Padres baseball ! They have a pool table and also darts as well... seriously all these cool breweries I just love them all ! They offer FREE peanuts and pretzels , they have free pizza Thursday's and oohhh the beer is sooo good, definitely a great selection of great beers - poor house - great beers !! The staff was very kind and attentive and as soon as I finished my beer she was on it ! I just love the places that make you feel like you don't want to leave, and I didn't the beer was smooth and cold and took the hot day away ! I will be back, especially knowing what kinds of beers the have - I know they only have a selected variety to drink from until they run out and make new batches - but some of those beers that I looked at that aren't out- I really really want to try !! And I will make sure I do maybe I'll see y'all there !!

Ms. J.

Yelp
Was wanting an ice cold beer. The first two did not deliver. I didn't care because I was in the company of the best man in the world and we live in San Diego, so we ordered two more. I have to assume they didn't want us to return.
google avatar

Erik N.

Yelp
This place is always mellow during the week and they have plenty of good beers. I like that they just play the punk songs they feel like playing and I appreciate the food when they have it. I make sure to hit this place if I'm in the area. Thanks guys! You rule!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Great beer and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Pool tables and darts. The maple stout is delicious.
google avatar

Lariamne R.

Yelp
Quite like this place. Super laid back and the beer selection is vast and reliability cheap! It. An get crowded but most bars with these qualities doe. They have pool, foosball and some other bar games. Staff is friendly and the only thing I think it's lacking is parking; It's hard to come around, but that's not really their fault. This area is usually crowded.
google avatar

Saleen M.

Yelp
Cool brewery in North Park Friendly bartenders TV to watch your favorite sport teams Plenty of street parking in the residential area Free snacks upon request: peanuts & pretzels Shuffle board! Beer, at least the tasters, come in cute, little mason jars Working Man's Blonde Ale - Light & refreshing
google avatar

Jeryl C.

Yelp
Poor House is a cozy brewery in north north park. Pretty easy to order a beer from the friendly bartenders, with good vibes from the crowd. They have a pool table too. I had the pleasure of tasting the "limited release" of Deez Nutz, a hazelnut stout. Appearance: an extremely deep dark brown, with a sizable head. Smell: the smell of Deez Nutz' was striking, with a definitively strong toasted nutty component. Taste: Deez Nutz proved to taste less intense than the aroma, as is the case with many stouts, but it was still delicious. Mouthfeel: (in other words the feel of Deez Nutz in my mouth) was a tiny bit on the rough side, but still fine. Overall I was very satisfied and I would order Deez Nutz again.

Matt D.

Yelp
Best bar West of the Mississippi. Fantastic staff...consist microbrews...good vibes all around. Classic local spot.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Reasonable price. Good selection of special beers. They now accept credit cards. Beer only with snacks to purchase.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Pros -- great service , good beers , large pours , and cute bartenders. they have a pool table, I thought that was really cool Cons -- cash only , parking is non-existent and only 1 coed bathroom. over all its a cool place with a chill vibe to grab some cold ones.
google avatar

Nishma S.

Yelp
Great vibe with a laid back atmosphere. This was my second time at Poor House and I enjoyed it even more than I did the first time (I really enjoyed it the first time)! Last time, I had tasters and tried a good number of their beers. This time, I focused on full pours. It was a hot day, so I had a Working Man's Blonde and a Dark & Damp. The blonde was an easy drink - crisp & refreshing. The Dark & Damp had some complexity. It had a roasted flavor and was a smooth, brown pour. In addition to the beer itself, the service was quick and friendly and the owner was great. I spent a while talking with him and he was incredibly down to earth. I'll be going back very soon!

Viet P.

Yelp
Nice bar with good drinks but terrible service. Kind of a regulars bar where if you're not a regular, you're getting second class service. Extra points for free nachos and pizza sometimes. Could be closer to 4-5 stars if the bartenders had an ounce of friendliness to people they don't recognize. As it stands, go to any other of the multitude of bars on 30th and get treated like you didn't just stumble into the bartenders living room party.
google avatar

Bryce K.

Yelp
Beer good... Vibe is what you come here for... Very authentic american bar... Football on, pool table, cool u shaped bar, bartender very responsive and payment easy... Nice place to relax! Beer detail (rating 3/5) had the Oktoberfest and it definitely tasted like they ferment with a kolsch or alt yeast... Liked the hop choice (hallertau?) and bitterness but water tasted hard for the style. Vibe rating (5/5) Average: 4 stars!

Andrew J.

Yelp
Allie and Anthony are supremely epic! I've had nothing but the most amazing and welcoming experiences at this bar. Allie is unbelievably knowledgeable when it comes to all of the different beers on draught. I was satisfied with everything she recommended. Anthony (the sole proprietor of the food business that's ran out of the brewery) is phenomenal. His food business is named "Cafe Cubano". His cultural touch and passion for cooking keep me coming back. The Poor House is an undiscovered 'honey hole'. I implore you to frequent this establishment and give Allie and Anthony the recognition they rightfully deserve. Thank you Allie and Anthony for making my time at The Poor House positively memorable. I will undoubtedly be back to support this FABULOUS business.
google avatar

Kathy T.

Yelp
Fun place with great selections of craft beer The thin mint beer Was definitely memorable, and Alana is a cutie pie that will set you up with what you like!
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
Not only do I love this brewry. I miss it having moved to Iowa. This was my go to, one of the fast thinkers that adapted.. as required during the "pandemic" This is a hidden gem in N. Park!!
google avatar

Macaire C.

Yelp
Tables are slanted and when my friends beer fell off and smashed he helped pick up the glass. Then afterwards bartender became super aggressive and confrontational. My friend had one sip of beer the whole night and wasnt near the drink when it fell. Not worth your time to be treated poorly.

Anthony D.

Yelp
Hands down, best bar I've ever been to! You have to try their Peeled and Pressed if you like ipas or hazys!
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Poor House is one of my favorite breweries I've ever been too. Excellent service and outstanding beers. It really is a perfect neighborhood bar with a great atmosphere and friendly regulars. I could not recommend Poor House more!!
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
A great place to stop in for a beer and relax with some friends. It has a really laid back feel. It easy to go by this place and miss it. The staff is friendly. It is very dog friendly. The last time I visited I ended up playing with someone else's dog for awhile. The beers are strong and very hoppy. It may not be for everyone.
google avatar

Natalie V.

Yelp
Tried the Casa Pobre, cold and delicious. Bartender said it tastes like a Modello and she was correct. We played some PacMac and even did some adult coloring, decent evening.
google avatar

MJ E.

Yelp
They will close down super early. Wasted a $15 uber to get here only to discover they closed an hour early. No sours at the moment. Shameful and sad
