What to Eat and Drink on a Day Trip From Seattle to Vashon Island | Eater Seattle

"A casual eatery with a teriyaki menu paired with a bottle shop carrying a big selection of local craft beers, local ciders and global small-producer wines, owned by Adam Chumas (former beverage director for Tom Douglas restaurants) and his partner Christina McFadden. He’s often at the cash register or pouring pints; she designed the bright, airy look with long wood communal tables and a bar. The liquor cases sport headings like “Weird,” and contain finds like Sage Rat Wines (a reference to a local nickname for ground squirrels), Litha, a farmhouse ale brewed with chamomile, lavender, sage and spelt from Propolis Brewing in Port Townsend, and “spontaneous wild ales” blended with peaches or grapes from de Garde Brewing in Tillamook, Oregon." - Sharon McDonnell

Always such a fun place to stop by when visiting Vashon! It’s retro but modern and just cool. It’s a fun and casual atmosphere. Local, yummy beers and ciders on tap, as well as in cans. Pretty good selection. Yummy food and snacks, a tad salty, but who cares because it’s such a cool and laidback vibe. Island life to the fullest here. Just come and hang out…enjoy a beer and have a salty snack. Then walk over for a sweet treat and some retro arcade games at the Glass Bottle Creamery

Had an awesome time at pop pop. Great selection of beers and food options are perfect for vegans and others. We got there a little later and after dinner when asking about having one more beer, the bartender had a classic line response and said “You can do whatever you want” 😂 Super cool dude and great service.

The staff at Soda Pop Shop seemed like solid individuals—friendly and welcoming—so this rating is strictly based on the food. I ordered the Teriyaki Deluxe Plate, which looked visually amazing and is what drew me in. Unfortunately, the flavor didn’t match the presentation. The chicken lacked depth—mostly just tasted like chili oil and salt—and the mac salad was far too sweet for my taste. The standout parts were the fresh salad and the spring roll, which were solid. I also grabbed a musubi, but it looked and tasted dry, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. As a Polynesian, these are staples of my culture’s food that I’ve had a million times, so I came in with high hopes and an open mind. I’m always down to see new takes on traditional flavors, but this missed the mark for me. That said, $25 is a fair price for a solid plate—this just wasn’t it this time. I’m still interested in checking out more of the menu over the summer to see if there are some hidden gems or flavorful options. Hoping for a better experience next round.

Google
A nice addition to Vashon. They have seating for individuals at the bar as well as tables for small and large groups. Food is available ranging from Teriyaki to french fries. The prices are pretty high, the draft beers that we got were $9 each, glass of Rose $12 and the fries with curry were $11.

**** UPDATE **** Definitely much better food! This place is a great option for good food and a great selection of beer and wine! ***************** Great place to get a quick meal and an interesting brew! Hoping they can expand their menu, the options are limited. Their teriyaki sauce is a little on the bitter side, the Mac salad is solid. Corkage was a bit steep for wine at $15 and even canned beer has a $2 fee. Definitely will try again and play a couple of the vintage video games and try the ice cream!

Fantastic people. Great food. Fun environment. You’ll love your stop here. Adam is great to chat with about your choice of beverage. Very knowledgeable and personable. Don’t miss this gem on the island!

Google
always worth a day trip from seattle to go hang at pop pop! they have an incredible lineup of wine, beer and a large selection of fun and unique n/a drinks. the food is delish & the vibes are great! the new loaded fries are delightful!

Google
The crispy tofu teriyaki had a tiny drizzle of teriyaki sauce- not close to enough to flavor the rice or tofu. I was just eating plain (very dry) rice and extremely bland fried tofu. It’s also overpriced for what it is, and they ask for a 15% minimum tip on top of that. The service was also quite poor. The employee handed me my food with his back turned and quickly ran away, no “enjoy” or anything.

Yelp
Not a bad bottle shop for Vashon Island! There is a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from here. There are gourmet sodas, kombucha and lots of beer primarily within the radius of the local area but a few out of state beer as well. I didn't order any of the food here but the beverage selection in my mind is what you should come for here. Nice, clean and bright place makes this a great break from shopping in Vashon.

Yelp
Wow! Love this place- amazing selection of beverages and delicious food. Nice people- a local favorite. A center for good times.

Yelp
Great selection of beers on tap and cans and bottles in the cooler. Good teriyaki food menu but it's really more Hawaiian than teriyaki. Friends staff. Parking is street parking. Bathrooms are unisex.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to a relaxing HH and trying the Deluxe fries. The 2 draft IPAs we tried were not poured well, about 1" of foam and didn't taste fresh or hoppy. Deluxe skinny fries were so disappointing: way too much chili crisp and no curry sauce - do not order this if you don't like 3* spicy!!! Food is served in takeout containers, not very appealing. The bottle/can beer selection is good ($2 fee to drink there); finally got to try Pliny the Elder, dry hopped version. The vibe is definitely not relaxing; the room is so noisy with no sound dampening like carpet or acoustic ceiling tiles.

Yelp
Nice casual place for a drink and snack on Vashon. Was pretty busy when we were there, but service was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
The teriyaki here is fairly good, but the macaroni salad is delicious. I was a little disappointed in the loco moco, it's kind of bland. But they have an amazing selection of alcohol and it's nice to have some vegan/GF options in such a fun space.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Pop Pop Bottle Shop this past weekend and had lunch there. The space is beautiful and had a fun and relaxing vibe. The shop also had a HUGE selection of wine, cider, and non-alcoholic drinks in the fridge as well as beverages on tap. The food was SO GOOD. I got the deluxe lunch with an egg on top. The chicken was juicy, the salad was refreshing, and the fried crunchy roll had a lot of flavor! I was a little intimidated by the chili crisp oil but it brought it all together! Lastly, the staff (chef and the person behind the counter - should have asked for their names) were so kind. Lovely humans.

Yelp
The owners were very welcoming. I had a glass of red wine from Chile that was amazing. I definitely recommend the crab rangoon.

Yelp
Lots of hard-to-find local beers are available here, along with non-alcoholic favorites as well. They have a dozen or so taps going and do wine pours too. Also a decent food menu, making this a great stop for a meal. I was only there to pick up a couple of interesting beers for gifts but would love to come back again.

Yelp
Stopped by during the Annual Strawberry Festival. Indoor dining has a very cute atmosphere but the outdoor dining left something to be desired. Apart from the countless canned beverage options in their fridges, there was a decent selection of beers and wines. I tried the Amber Wine, which was fruity, very orange-y, and dry. We also ordered the Tofu Teriyaki, which came with plenty of rice but not much to eat it with. The tofu pieces were well marinated and flavored with scallions and sesame seeds. The coleslaw was refreshing with the teriyaki. I would stop by again and try another wine!

Yelp
They have a great atmosphere (especially when they can open the garage door) and the beer/wine/cider/beverage selection is massive! However, if you buy something from the cooler and want to drink it there, they charge a $2 corkage fee. This seems a little high, but since some restaurants charge $20-25 wine corkage fees, maybe $2 for a can at a bottle shop is normal? Their food menu leaves much to be desired. While I love teriyaki and bahn mi, the dishes seemed bland and a bit dry. Regardless, if you go here, do yourself a favor and go next door to Glass Bottle for ice cream after you're done!

Yelp
Got a chicken teriyaki meal, Chicken was good, salad was good and crisp, but the rice was dry and undercooked (as others have noted). Also alot of the teriyaki sauce had soaked into a portion of the rice when it needed to be on the chicken. Service was good. Hope they deal with the rice -- everything else was so positive.

Yelp
Pop Pop Bottle Shop Pros: Super friendly. Pretty good teriyaki. Large selection of beers and non-alcoholic bevs. Ice cream next door! The Red Bike grossness is gone. Cons: $15.00 for a teriyaki plate. $20.00 for the deluxe plate. No chopsticks. No shoyu. Extremely loud and lots of room reverb. For comparison, think Anthony's Pt. Defiance only 5 times worse. They desperately need acoustic tiles in here. Wear earplugs. Verdict: I'll go back for takeout.

Yelp
Oh ma lurd. Driving from Oregon to visit Vashon and graced by the amazing food and beer at Pop Pop Bottle Shop! The deluxe fries are drenched in this amazing curry and chiles and so so yummy that the table couldn't get enough of. I got the baguette sandwich which is kind of like a bahn mi with a side of Mac which might not be an official side but it's all so yummy and totally hit the spot. The cascade cherry sour was delicious and the kombucha was great. The vibe is pretty bright for an overcast day and there's really friendly service. 10/10 will come again next time I'm on island time!

Yelp
Looks like a cute bottle shop with tables. Aging bros behind the counter. Not dog friendly. Not people friendly.

Yelp
I really wanted to try this place when we were visiting Vashon but I was taken back by the rudeness I experienced by the staff there. It was our first time on Vashon island and I was visiting with my mother, husband, and dog. We saw this place and thought it was so cute and wanted to see if we go there and grab a drink while we eat. Based on the name of the place, I incorrectly assumed that it was a drinks only establishment and that no food was served there. I asked the staff whether I could bring outside food and drink there. Instead of just simply explaining that they do serve food there, I got a super condescending answer and attitude. It made me feel very unwelcome.

Yelp
Love the tofu and veg! Crispy tofu. Perfectly cooked veg. Awesome fries, too. And super nice people. Fun and huge selection of beer, kombucha, and interesting non alcoholic drinks. Nice ambience.

Yelp
The place itself has a cute atmosphere and the kids did enjoy their ice cream. Just be warned about the confusing policies about their drinks... my family was on its way to a BYOB backyard music show on Vashon a few weeks ago so we were happy to find that this place sold a variety of beer/wine choices (including six packs of beer, bottles of wine, individual cans of beer/cider, beer on tap, glasses of wine...). We asked if we were allowed to walk out with the cans that we bought or if we had to drink them there, and we were told that either was fine. They explained that there was a corkage fee for the bottles of wine which was fine because we didn't plan to open a bottle. Since we had some time to kill, we decided to sit down to enjoy some of the individual cans and some glasses of wine (poured at their counter and not a purchased bottle) which wasn't a problem. However, one of the men working came over and very sternly talked to my brother in law who later opened a beer from one of the six packs that he bought. Apparently there is a corkage fee for beers if opened from a six pack, but not from the individual cans sold (also: my out of state brother-in-law wasn't with us when this was explained). I feel like this policy should've been better explained, possibly posted or written out somewhere. He could've left it at a simple explanation but was insinuating that it was already explained to us and that we were trying to get away with not paying the fee. The corkage fee for the six packs was never discussed and we were told that we could choose whether to enjoy the drinks we bought there or when we left so you can see where the confusion came from. My brother-in-law stopped and that was that, but that man kept glaring at us behind the counter from afar. While I was sorry that there was a misunderstanding, I didn't appreciate the tone and accusation.

Yelp
Took 45 minutes. Multiple large orders after me came out first. No acknowledgment of lost order slip till after I asked, no sincere apology. Not a great first impression. Food was cold, three slices of chicken over a mountain of rice. Ice cold fries and sandwich. It's brand new and was busy, but it's also teriyaki. Give it a few months to find it's footing.

Icarus W.

Yelp
They have one food item, and they couldn't manage to get it right. I have low expectations of teriyaki to begin with, but wow, I didn't know you could do it this badly.

Wyatt G.

Yelp
Terrific food and service in a warm atmosphere that appeals to both locals and tourists. I like being able to get a beer and food while kids run next door for arcade and periodically circle back for food.

Erin M.

Yelp
So fun. So tasty. So community. Yum ciders and beers and food. Super cool N/A selection. (Wish they'd been here while I was preggo!). Adjoining arcade and local creamery makes for a super fun and tasty time for families. Love the old school arcade games. Beautiful and fun design inside that spark major joy. Kind and committed owners.

Yelp
Sadly, this is a somewhat typical teriyaki spot. The environment is stark and cavernous. Acoustics were challenging, and not conducive to a relaxing meal. The tofu is good but comes with a lot of rice and almost no salad. The chicken sandwich contained fatty chicken and the other ingredients were not especially flavorful. Owners: please warm the place up with some colorful art and décor, and ask your customers to fill out comment cards before they exit. Agree with Doug that it is super friendly. Nice people. I hope they thrive and can provide food that is a respite from all of the surrounding low quality comfort food options.

Kelly B.

Yelp
Love this place! We go every week. Beverage selection is extensive and wonderful. Teriyaki is delicious - highly recommend ordering extra chili crisp and other sauces.

Karina S.

Yelp
Quality food and rad environment. Spacious and love that it opens up to the outdoors. Best teriyaki we've ever had! Thank goodness we can now enjoy teriyaki without feeling terrible of the ingredients. Great selection of drinks! GF option too. Love it. We're certainly coming back.
