Where to Get a Cape Cod Fish Sandwich That’s Better Than Filet-O-Fish | Eater

"A sandwich shop on Commercial Street that treats sandwich-making as both an art and a craft, offering a wide, thoughtfully balanced selection of vegetarian options. One standout is the Oh You Fancy, Huh—smashed avocado with chile flakes on multigrain bread—while the shop’s grocery side carries salads, baked goods and an eclectic mix of essentials from sunscreen and dog treats to lube and vintage cookbooks, making it an ideal one-stop for a day in town." - Rebecca Flint Marx

Google
Delicious sandwiches with the option to order ahead. It’s 100% a grab n go, so don’t expect to stay and eat. Look for seasonal specials like their tomato sandwich on potato bread with duke’s mayo. I had mine on focaccia, it was delicious. They also make a mean breakfast sandwich, although their opening time makes it more of a brunch sandwich.

Ryan R.

Google
My favorite lunch spot on the Cape. I love that they have so many vegetarian and vegan options, and the baked goods are always great. I love Pop + Dutch and the Sophia Loren forever ❤️

Rob Fitzhenry

Google
First time there. Tried breakfast sandwich on biscuit. Amazing ! Best biscuit anywhere!!! Eggs were light and fluffy. Delicious! Also got a biscuit with sorghum syrup. Yum! Great sweet finish and enjoyed on ride home. Can’t wait til next time. Only place to get a satisfying

Erik Johnson

Google
The best sandwiches in Provincetown. Get the Agent Dale Cooper - or - the breakfast sandwich, on a biscuit. Their breads and ingredients are all delightfully fresh. You can order ahead online, and pick up inside. The team here is always really lovely to interact with as well.

George Chalhoub

Google
My “Celine Dijon” sandwich was not great at all. The bread was not fresh and it was very poorly made.

Google
Wonderful, homemade, inventive lunch place…a must stop when in Provincetown. The menu is full of fantastic sandwiches and homemade salads and the service is warm and welcoming. This is my go to place to pack a lunch for the beach or a day on the water.

Mike V.

Google
Everything is right about Pop + Dutch. The staff are so friendly, chill and just cool, good people (special shout out to Gary and Billy - tho everyone’s been great tbh). Now the food is just SLAMMIN. That Sophia Loren sandwich is pure magic. I don’t even understand how Focaccia could be so tasty. This is the first place I run to when I get to town. I appreciate all the love that goes into making it a special place. Ya’ll just nailin it and I’m grateful for you and your craft.

Google
Delicious biscuit breakfast sandwich and other delectable treats abound at this über-friendly and chic shop on Commercial Street. Not only can you visit in person and treat your senses to the sights and wafting aromas, you can also easily order ahead on their website! You must try their homemade biscuit breakfast sandwich - order early on busy days because once the biscuits are gone for the day, they’re gone! Their cleverly named and scrummy sandwiches are perfect to take with you on a ride through the beach trails or after a little hike in the dunes. Enjoy!

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick sandwich and they had several choices, some breakfast sandwiches, some lunch sandwiches. Their egg salad sandwich came on a potato bread, while their breakfast sandwich (egg and bacon) came on a Brioche bun. The food was good, tasty and the staff was very friendly. There's not a lot of room for eat-in. Just two long wooden counters that if you get a space next to them, you get a view of the street and people walking up/down Commercial St. Most people do take out. They did not have freshly squeezed orange juice, but their organic bottled orange juice was really good and it had bits of pulp in it. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Living in Mashpee, we love going to stay in Ptown for a couple nights off season every year. We always go to the same restaurants that have become very pricey now. We have money but get tired of spending a lot for sometimes not that good food. This last time in early June we decided to go to some new finds, and Pop and Dutch was on the list. Oh my, what delicious sandwiches on delicious fresh made breads. Eyes roll back in your head good! We also bought 2 fluffy melt in your mouth biscuits to bring home. Wow, they were unreal! The counter man was so great and a real cutie. Wish we knew his name. A new favorite to visit every time we head to the one of favorite places in the world. Ptown!

Yelp
If there's one thing I'm gonna do in Ptown it's go here. I have gone three days in a row, ordered different stuff and liked it more than the last. Everything is amazing. Staff is stunning. Unapologetically queer owned and a great vibe. Go here now.

Yelp
We had just finished a four hour kayak tour and needed to refuel. Pop & Dutch was close by and it just looks so darn cute from the outside, we had to walk in. So much going on and so many options. Since we had a big dinner planned for later, we did not want to go heavy, we decided to split our sandwich and sit on the beach just around the corner. Together with some chips and drinks and yummy cookies, we enjoyed a great afternoon on the beach. The sandwich was pretty big, so splitting it was the right decision, but if it was not for our early dinner, I would have easily enjoyed a full order. Next time. Thank you to the friendly staff.

Yelp
I greatly enjoy the sandwhiches at Pop and Dutch .. They are different, inventive and the menu isn't overwhelmingly diverse or plentiful so they can crank them out quickly here. Great before a trip to the town landings or the pier. Totally clutch if you are planning a Ptown beach trip and want to walk a little on commercial after. Lovely breads and super fresh ingredients. The real sleeper item here is the homebrewedd arnold palmers. just perfect for an in hand beverage thats not a bottle of soda or water. Can't even give them 5 stars due to the insanely wildly limited hours. Open 3-4 days a week and at very limited times. Oh well thats the nature of the beast that is Ptown.

Scott S.

Yelp
Tad on the expensive side, but everything is in Provincetown super friendly place always a great sandwich with creative combinations.

James D.

Yelp
Excellent staff and service. My go-to place in Ptown for breakfast and lunch. Very popular with an attractive crowd.
google avatar

Patricia D.

Yelp
5+ stars! We had the seasonal heirloom sandwich on potato bread and it was perfection. Simple yet delicious. The biscuits also looked excellent so we look forward to getting breakfast here next time!

Yelp
Was in Ptown over LD week and after hitting the gym at Mussel Beach, I'd stop by here to get a sandwich to go. Probably went 4 of the 6 days I was in town. Great selection, lovely employees, super cute shop. Also fun to people watch while you're waiting as people walk by on Commercial. Love this place!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Cute walk in sandwich stop- breakfast stops strictly at 11, so make sure you get in before if you want eggs
google avatar

Cody J.

Yelp
Avocado toast was pretty basic; nothing special. Great prices. Everyone enjoyed their buttery sandwiches, but the food is heavy.
google avatar

Ryan R.

Yelp
Went here with a couple of friends to grab a bite to eat for breakfast. After perusing the menu, I decided to go with the breakfast sandwich. This place does an amazing job soft scrambling the eggs, but you definitely need to add something to the sandwich to really give it a boost in flavor. Without any add-ons, this was just a bit of a plain flavor that had a nice texture, but wasn't memorable otherwise. In looking at the reviews, it seems like maybe their sandwiches are a bit more enticing, so I will have to check them out next time around.

Dan O.

Yelp
Great breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Staff is so friendly!! So conveniently located in town.

Yelp
"Agent Dale Cooper" is the new man in my life - and I love him, and I met him at Pop+Dutch. Actually it's a sandwich on their menu, but I'm still in love. I'm a fairly new customer and the quality took me by surprise. I didn't expect to be so happy with my food nonetheless a sandwich. Bravo folks at P+D! Addendum: It's a Sunday morning miracle! The breakfast sandwich is the best, and I mean BEST! breakfast thingy I've ever had. I added bacon to mine. Deliciousness.
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
I am a sandwich connoisseur and must say that this sandwich is delicious! The mozzarella and arugula make the sandwich very refreshing. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Great spot to stop on your way to the beach for a delicious sandwich or pre packaged items from the cooler! Nice to have an easy grab and go spot in town and avoid a sit down breakfast or lunch. Creative sandwiches with fresh ingredients and wonderful baked goods! Friendly and quick service, we will be back!
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
Easily among my top 3 fave spots in town. The Sofia Loren and Little Edie are my fave sandwiches. The gluten free vegan peanut butter cookie is so good. My only wish for Pop+Dutch is for more gluten free vegan baked goods
google avatar

Astra G.

Yelp
This snappy sandwich shop is a much needed break from the fried seafood galore of the cape. There are a lot of vegetarian sandwiches and even vegan options. All sandwiches I've tried are yummy. My favorite is the Danny DeVito with roasted mushrooms, artichokes, arugula and other vegetable friends with tasty relish and oil and vinegar. Almost everything is house made (Even for you meat eaters the meat is made fresh in the house). And there are plenty of salads/sides to go and baked goods. I also really appreciate their beverages, there are fresh light agua frescas and cold brew coffee...I can't stand drinking heavy sticky soda on a hot summer day. And all of this served with some friendly sass!
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
Their BLT was amazing. The absolute best I've ever had (and I've had many). We were only in P-town for a few days but we ate here twice... and brought back friends the second time. The roast beef is a close second. Actually, all of their sandwiches are mind-blowing. Don't miss it!

Yelp
Off the street...this place looks very odd. What is it? A bar or pharmacy? Until I went in and all was revealed. A cool little general store and sandwiches shop. The ladies who work there where all very nice. We ordered the Danny Divitto and the Helltown. Delicious! Go by today if you're in PTown!

Ay M.

Yelp
The mr Benton sandwich was so good. They were nice and fast and accommodating as well A+ all around
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
This is the best sandwich I've ever had. I initially tried to order a breakfast sandwich, which are served until noon, but it was 12:30 so they had stopped making them. Instead, I ordered the agent dale Cooper, a turkey sandwich with shallots, cheddar, avocado, tomato and lettuce on multigrain. Sounds simple, but a week later I'm still dreaming about it, the best sandwich in Massachusetts, probably the east coast. I swapped regular mayo for ranch mayo which I def recommend, giving it a bit more flavor.

Yelp
Every summer, our first morning stop is always Pop and Dutch. Their egg biscuit sandwiches are perfection. The size is generous, and after biting into the buttery crunch of the top it melts in your mouth, with the eggs perfectly soft scrambled. Our trip isn't complete without picking up a sandwich and any of their delicious side salads for the beach before we leave. So many interesting and creative flavorable choices to keep you fed all day.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Pop+Dutch is an awesome place to stop in for a bite. We got the Little Edie sandwich and some of their peach and heirloom tomato panzanella and it was uh-may-zing. The sandwich was large too, especially for the price. I love that they have a number of vegan options and make sure to check the house made stuff in their fridge for your next beach picnic.

Ashley K.

Yelp
Amazing fresh artisan sandwiches ! Love this place. Great house made condiments, delicious iced teas and coffees and yummy homemade cookies !
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
What a cute little store with a old fashioned old home theme going on! Love the deli and grab -n-go sandwiches and salads. Everything is very fresh and good and just a little bit expensive.

Yelp
Last year we discovered Pop + Dutch after waiting a ridiculous long time at Joe's for coffee. So we tried breakfast sandwiches on their homemade biscuits and they were divine! Btw the coffee was delicious fresh and hot. This year we pretty much went everyday for either lunch or breakfast and coffee. Whomever is making the coffee, they make a perfect cup. There sandwiches are fresh and delicious, My girlfriend had the Helltown the egg salad was yummy perfect bite, I had the Gator McKlusky the chicken salad was tender well seasoned, I'm guessing the chicken is brined, because it's that tender. We also tried the wedge BLT and the Agent Dale Cooper, they were both fresh and delicious! If you go there and you see the snickerdoodle cake, it's his grandmother's recipe, don't hesitate to buy it, it was so delicious, not overly sweet with the perfect amount of cinnamon. We were so full from our sandwiches, we saved the cake and reheated it in the toaster oven to have the next day with our morning coffee. It was delightful way to wake up. The staff at Pop+Dutch are friendly and great at what they do.

Yelp
Adorable spot with great food and service. We ate at the narrow countertop along the front windows. Tried and loved the breakfast sandwich (soft-scrambled eggs, cheddar, arugula, smashed avocado, on a sublime brioche bun) and the ricotta blueberry cake. My husband had the "Agent Dale Cooper" sandwich (turkey, cheddar, smashed avocado, mayo, pickled shallots, tomato, butter lettuce on 7-grain) and also loved it.
google avatar

Nicholas R.

Yelp
There are no better breakfast sandwiches in ptown! Plus the staff is friendly and they've got a nice selection of basics to get you through the day.
google avatar

Suzanne W.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is the best!! Add a little PIMENTO CHEESE SPREAD to it to blow your tastebuds off!!! This is THE place to get sandwiches for your dune tour, trip to the beach etc. Everything is made in house using clean ingredients and local farm produces/meats. Enjoy interesting and fun ephemera from the cape while you wait for them to prepare your food. This is not just a sandwich shop, it's a step back in time to a more gentler area. And don't forget to get lube!
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
I am literally addicted to their spicy pimento cheese which is a problem since I'm often more than five-hours away from Pop+Dutch. That said, I would walk up there from NYC in a busted pair of shower flip-flops to get a tub of it. It's real-deal Southern, creamy and delicious with just a pop of heat. If you're looking for a killer breakfast biscuit and fresh coffee, a creative and delicious pre-beach sandwich, lube, eclectic candy bars from around the Commonwealth -- or just good conversation, you CAN NOT beat Pop+Dutch in Provincetown. I promise!
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
I stopped in for a snack. The vibe is that of a welcoming county deli. The menu is cutely posted as sandwich described on paper lunch bags. They offer options for all types of eaters and include gluten-free sandwich bread. There is also a cold deli case, drinks and a few packaged goods, and some homemade sweets. Upon the recommendation of Brendan (the cashier), I grabbed a chocolate chip cookie for under $1! The cookie is his recipe- not too sweet, buttery and doughy in the center while crisp on the outside. There is no seating, so it's more like a grab and go deli.
google avatar

Scottie M.

Yelp
A true gem added to the West End of town! Nothing says Provincetown quite like a bright smile and positive attitude that greets each and every customer that walks in the door. Every time I walk through the swinging door, I am welcomed by beaming faces and a "Hey Scottie, how are you?" Nothing quite gets me like a store that remembers it's customers! They've added a new twist and flavor to the culinary market here. Everything I've seen is made with quality and doesn't have a big commercial label and lots of chemical additives. The sandwiches are to die for! The breakfast sandwiches especially are unique to the area! They are made to order and are served on a warm brioche... and arugula!! Finally! A place that incorporates a green vegetable into breakfast time! Genius! I absolutely must mention the Mac + Cheese... omg! I have a 6 year old that no matter what meal it is... "I want mac + cheese" - so guess what she got! That's right! Probably the best mac + cheese I've ever had! As soon I took a bite, I regretted that I'd already given away to her! The delicious combination of cheeses are warm and leave your tastebuds begging for more. I'm so excited that they have returned for another season! I know what I'll be getting for lunch today! ....oh, and don't forget to check out the baked goods! Yum!
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich - bacon, eggs, cheese and arugula on their biscuit was the best breakfast sandwich I have had in my entire life!! I cannot believe how good it was.`

Sham K.

Yelp
Did not enjoy the avocado sandwich I got. We went whale watching and brought sandwiches from here to go. It was really not enjoyable.

Elaine M.

Yelp
Yes, the Agent Dale Copper is all that and was fabulous, but the container of spicy pimento cheese I bought on a whim? All that and more!
google avatar

DJ S.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been taken to Provincetown, and I was quite excited when I heard about going back for Spookybear. There is really nothing quite like Provincetown during Halloween, and yes I packed my Halloween cape for the occasion. Saturday afternoon I was getting rather hungry and decided to stop in at Pop + Dutch at 147 Commercial Street. I knew I had chosen wisely when I saw their slogan, "Sandwiches, Salads, and Lube." Seriously it could only happen in Provincetown. The deli and general store literally has a little bit of everything, from suntan lotions, to waffle bats, to specialty grocery item, and yes lube. They also have a great selection of made-to-order deli sandwiches. I ordered the Danny DeVito, which included shaved mushroom, zucchini ribbons, marinated artichoke hearts, provolone, hoagie relish, arugula, red onion, drizzled with oil and vinegar on Iggy's ciabatta roll. I normally don't get too excited over a deli sandwich, but this thing was out of this world. I mean fireworks good. My paws were tapping a happy tune the entire time I was eating it. Yes, it's that freakin' amazing. Next time you're in Provincetown, get yourself Pop + Dutch and get one of their sandwiches. It will probably be the best food you'll find in Provincetown. More on that note in a later post. Food Rating: 5 Paws Service Rating: 5 Paws Overall Rating: 5 Paws With love from my dog bowl to yours....Happy eating. Shata

Sa S.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place! The best sandwiches you can get anywhere. I always get the Carolina Gentlemen and the pimento cheese is the best I have ever had.
google avatar

Yelp
The BEARS are Back......and after a year the POP has turned the corner! I have had several sandwiches and salads and all were delicious. AND Service is delightful, with suggestions on items to enjoy!
google avatar

Chrissie C.

Yelp
Cute on the inside. Had high hopes. Too expensive to be eating my sandwich on a potato bun. Bought 2 mediocre sandwiches a small bag of chips and two cans of seltzer and it came to $30. Steep for the quality.
google avatar

Grant P.

Yelp
The food is incredible! I don't know how they can make a sandwich so good! For the price there is nothing better in P-Town!
google avatar

Brandon G.

Yelp
If I were only reviewing the food, I'd be debating on if this establishment deserved 3 or 4 stars, but I'm not. My wife and I ordered "THE RAINEY" chopped black forest ham+Guss' full sour pickles, Zatarain's creole mustard, mayo on toasted Martin's potato bread. "POP McDUTCH" house-made roast beef, cheddar, Guss' full sour pickles, red onion, butter lettuce, Pop McDutch sauce on Iggy's brioche And we split a bacon, egg, and cheese that I asked to be on a biscuit. I will say that the food was average and the initial encounter with customer services was good. Once I received our order I noticed that they did not give us ALL the condiments that I had asked to be put on the side. So I went to ask the gentleman that was taking orders if there was mustard on any of the sandwiches. The lady that made my sandwiches came over with an attitude, cut me off, and stated "I didn't put any mustard on any of your sandwiches". -Second encounter with customer service "poor". -Wasn't happy with "the Rainey" -paid for a biscuit that I didn't get -No attention to detail

Yelp
My husband and I popped into this shop on our way back to our hotel yesterday. We got a couple sandwiches: he had the Agent Dale Cooper and I had a Little Edie on gluten free bread. Admittedly, I just ordered that sandwich because Little Edie, you know? But it was delicious and it is such a relief to be able to get food in a place where they really understand how to handle food allergies. My husband also really liked his sandwich and said that everything was very fresh. If I could change anything, I'd maybe want my bread toasted a little more because gluten free bread is always better toasted, but that didn't detract from the taste at all. We also looked around their little shop while we waited for our sandwiches as we were happy to see such quality items like Applegate bacon and Narragansett Creamery cheese. They are doing something really cool here by supporting some great local food producers as well as ethical meat companies like Applegate and Murray's Chicken.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
Cutie pie store with Iggy's bread, homemade desserts, cool food items and a super friendly vibe. The cases were rather bare during our visit but it was shoulder season, mid May so I have high expectations. My man loved his homemade slice of pie.

Yelp
Pop+Dutch (@POPandDutch) rolls out in the West End. One of our fav "goto" spots for breakfast sandwiches had been the Angel Grocery at the corner where we stay while in Ptown. But this year the place had both a new vibe, with a new name along with a new menu. Now called Pop+Dutch, they offer a simple clean fresh take on sandwiches (regular, breakfast and gluten free) snacks and fresh in-house made cookies, salads and fresh brewed iced mint tea, lemonade and other hot caffeinated and cooled beverages. The new folks working in this pint-sized general store, which some other reviewers label as a gourmet sandwich shop are friendly, easy going and fit the "go with the flow" vibe of Ptown while also not using that as an excuse for poor service a few other similar places lean towards. They also came out with a cute reusable shopping bag with a fitting theme that caught my eye at day one. Overall - its a fresh take on foods for the summer. The breakfast sandwiches rocked as did the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. I'm working my way through the menu and think for a "freshman" on the ptown food scene - I sure hope they are here to stay.

Yelp
This sandwich place is sooo good. Would come back for this. Had the Carolina Gentleman. Would not regret. Come and see for yourself. Great for picnics or bike ride stop off on the beach.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
First things first...these sandwiches are GREAT! I was in Ptown the week before Memorial Day and was lucky enough to meet Rebecca and Sean and find out about their sandwich shop. It was the first week they opened, and they already had their act together! Great selection of choices for making the PERFECT Ptown picnic!!
google avatar

Namia I.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches & coffee! Everyone who works here is genuinely friendly, and it's always interesting to look around the store. They make my favorite breakfast sandwich in all of Ptown. Yum
google avatar

Marideth R.

Yelp
I am so sad we did not try Pop + Dutch earlier in the week, but maybe that's a good thing as I would have wanted it for lunch every day! The entire staff is super friendly, great music playing, and enjoyed browsing the store during my short wait for my sandwiches. I ordered the Danny Devito (marinated ports, artichokes, tomatoes, onion, arugula, cheese, and an awesome relish on homemade focaccia) I am pregnant so my options are limited for sandwiches and this was such a treat! My husband had the chef sandwich (turkey, ham, hard boiled egg, cheese, lettuce, and a sauce or a brioche bun) the sandwiches were huge servings (I could have shared mine). It was around 20.00 for our sandwiches, two drinks, and a banana. Not too shabby for P-town! As my husband ate his sandwich on the beach he exclaimed, "I would come back to Provincetown just to eat another one of these sandwiches!"
