The Best Happy Hours in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This converted Victorian — with its rustic indoor, patio, and garden seating — is a mainstay for bourbon fans, but its happy hour is an absolute steal: For $7, customers can choose from a selection of whiskies (Henry McKenna, Evan Williams, etc.), which they can drink in a sour, neat, on the rocks, or with soda. The rest of the menu is similarly budget-friendly, with cocktails and deviled eggs clocking in at $8. It runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily." - Dianne de Guzman

The Best Portland, Oregon Bar Patios | Eater Portland

"A table on the wraparound porch of this converted Victorian is a hot commodity, a verdant and serene place to spend a happy hour knocking back $7 whiskey sours. If those spots are all taken, it’s plenty lovely in the surrounding garden, vine maples supporting string lights as the sun sets." - Nathan Williams

As the title states, this place is delivers mostly on drinks. A number of very quality bourbon options. We got a couple of drinks & they were very good. The food? Mediocre at best, the pulled pork was dry AF. The service? Our first server was very nice & helpful, but then he left & our server was changed. After that no one acknowledged us until we were over it & asked for a check. Mind you, to that point we ordered one set of drinks & food, & our drinks were long gone. Probably the worst service experience we had in a while. Would’ve had more drinks, but pass.

Got seated promptly upon entering, great service, very cozy atmosphere, my server was great at giving beer recommendations once I said the few types I like haha. We tried their stroganoff dumplings, they were sooo good! The deviled eggs were really tasty too. We were pleasantly surprised it was happy hour, even on weekends! 4 to 7, I believe. I will definitely go back sometime! So happy I finally gave this place a try, as I've seen it many times when I go to the surrounding businesses at blue moon, pharmacy, silver dollar, and bartini. Thank you again so much!!

Says it on the tin. Good Bourbon lounge. Sat at the bar bit there are great cozy tables inside and a wonderful patio for a nice summer romp.

We stopped in for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the drinks for the price. We did not sample the food so cannot comment on it. The decor is inviting and the staff were super friendly! Highly recommend a visit!

Google
Service is great! Ambiance too :) very great vibes. However the food, man oh man. I remember I first came here a year ago and the pulled pork sandwich was delectable. Absolutely delicious. A year later I return and I have never had pulled pork so dry. Sooo dry. The Brussels sprouts on the side? Very cold. Were they supposed to be served cold? Maybe? Should they be? No. Dunno who’s cooking back there but this isn’t right. You can serve a dry pulled pork sandwich for $15. It just ain’t right.

Google
I love the menu here! Very wide variety of whisky. If you drink more than 50 different whiskey shots, you get a horse shoe on the wall. The place gives “speak easy” vibes. The bartender was super friendly.

We really wanted to like this place.. we have had this spot saved for a while and finally went on a date to try it out. First impression when we walked in was, this is a cool looking spot, nice ambiance. The woman who dropped off the menus was not very friendly. Then we sat and waited quite some time before our server stopped by. We ordered the brown derby, the hot shot toddy, hummus plate and Mac and cheese to start. The best part was the pita bread and hummus. The pita bread texture was on point. The service was not good at all. The gentleman who served us was very transactional and honestly, due to his lack of customer service, we didn’t end up ordering anything else and left earlier than planned. Maybe he was having a bad day, but it was definitely a big disappointment for us.

Great collection of Bourbon Whiskey. My favorite place for a relaxed bourbon night. Josh is amazing, has good knowledge of Bourbon. Place is very cozy and I love it. One of my favorite places in North west!!!

Yelp
Their whiskey and bourbon selections are broad and staffs are knowledgeable. Their food is also unexpectedly great! I love their deviled eggs and BBQ.

Yelp
One of our favorite bars hands down. Inside an old house with ample shady patio outside as well. Dog friendly with full bar service. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. Great menu, not your traditional bar food but options to crave. Excellent variety for mixed drinks. This is our second time and we will be back!

Yelp
Great little venue. We were downstairs in the bar watching a stand up comedy show. Very up close and intimate. The hosts were very funny. I would only recommend that they add plain ol' black coffee to the menu. I look forward to my next visit. It was a fun night.

Yelp
Great selection of whiskeys. Knowledgable and friendly bartender (Austin). Will definitely be back there on my next trip to Portland.

Yelp
It has been ages since I have been to this old school establishment. Last time I was here was for a birthday gathering in the downstairs bar just before the pandemic hit. Fast forward a few years later and a friend wanted to celebrate his birthday with a couple of peeps including myself. I arrived and snagged a table. Service was very prompt and I started off with a hot toddy from the HH menu. For food, I chose the HH mac and cheese along with the pulled pork sliders. My friends arrived shortly and they were also taken care of promptly. There is a special horseshoe plaque on the wall and my friends are a part of the bourbon challenge as I describe it. To earn the first horseshoe, you have to fill out 50 bourbon and they cannot be repeated. One of my friends is already on the 2nd set and to me it looks pretty intimidating. If you want to be a master of bourbon, this is a great challenge to partake in. The food arrived and it's still amazing to this day. The mac and cheese is just as I remembered: creamy, rich, hearty goodness. The pulled pork sliders also won me over as the meat was "melt in your mouth" goodness and the BBQ had a nice spicy kick. For the beer list, I noticed they had a "Temple of Smoke" from Ex-Novo and I enjoyed those as my friends were drinking bourbon to their hearts content. Our server was amazing and would check up on us on how we were doing. The vibe at the house is just as I remembered: cozy, welcoming, very laid back. I can't wait to come back again, cheers!

Yelp
Pope House has one of the best Happy Hours in Portland! Obviously they're known for bourbon but the Happy Hour cocktails are so good. I love the Suzy Parker for something sweet and refreshing. My second favorite, The Shifty, actually has bourbon. This place has a cool vibe but also doesn't take itself too seriously. We've had the same server there several times and she's so funny and real.

Yelp
Pope House Bourbon Lounge was established in 2009, 13 years of longevity, and surviving the pandemic make this charming neighborhood destination a true Portland icon. It's been many years since I've been here. The last time being during a snowstorm. My friend Jeannie J. met me and we enjoyed happy hour inside all toasty and warm while watching, mesmerized as big, fluffy snowflakes drifted down. Happily, my visit yesterday was on a beautiful, sunny day. I arrived before my friend and pretty much knew I wanted the drink they call the the Shifty, which consists of bourbon, fernet and ginger beer. My friend ordered a beer next and I ordered the Jimmy Carter Apology Tour, which is now my favorite drink ever, it's made from coffee infused buffalo trace, cinnamon close syrup and old fashioned bitters. And if you're wondering what is bourbon infused buffalo trace; it's bourbon infused with coffee. This is a very interestingly flavored cocktail. First sip you experience the coffee flavor, then you. Find the flavors o the cinnamon and clove, next you sense all the flavors once. After your first sip, you really notice this cocktail is much more complex than you imagined. First you're confronted with a distinct coffee flavor with the bourbon, then you get a specific flavor of the cloves and cinnamon with the bourbon. It finishes quite complex as you taste all of these wonderful flavors at once. The deviled eggs had a nice amount of paprika sprinkled atop giving them extra flavor. We also shared the pulled pork sliders which had a nice smoky flavor and were very tender. You really can't go wrong at Pope House Bourbon Lounge. 2022 - Review # 21

Yelp
Love the ambiance and selection of this place. Gives off "first-date" spot vibes. Service is very off-putting, but I forgot that Portland service is just The worst (lived there for 10 years). Traveled all over the world and it's laughable how rude people are there (looking at you, lady w/ blonde hair, glasses, and screechy voice). Old-fashioned is my drink of choice and theirs is overly-sweet and served over maaaany rocks. If you want a great Old-fashioned in Portland, go to Bible Club (*chef's kiss*)... much better service but not as conveniently located. I was wondering why Pope House was so empty on a Sat night on a gorgeous Fall Portland day, but I really think this place is more curb-appeal or an intimate setting for certain occasions rather than a staple.

Yelp
I've walked by this place many times & decided to finally try it. I happened to make it in during happy hour so prices were quite reasonable, and a look at the regular menu shows that prices for regular items are fairly decent as well. I tried the Evan Williams bourbon from the happy hour menu, and the deviled eggs. The bourbon was delicious, eggs were good, service kind & friendly. I really love the vibe. Dark wood, old school feel while very welcoming. I will be back!

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place while looking for another place and I enjoyed it so much that I literally stumbled out when I left. In all seriousness though, the selection of bourbon and Whiskey is amazing. I tried things I had never even known about before and the bartender was so knowledgeable as he explained each one. They also have great food and the Mac and Cheese with brisket is to die for. Tuesdays are 20% off. This will be my new go to on Tuesdays when in Portland in the future.

Yelp
A great find for a whiskey bar. An amazing selection and a very helpful staff that can guide with you suggestions and are knowledge about the various pours they have. The location is very cool; you walk up what appears to be a house and inside you are transported back in time (in a good way). Only reason they don't get 5 stars is the food menu was a bit lacking in terms of price and options BUT it is a whiskey bar first and foremost. With that in mind it's a great place to get a drink or a few. Also it's Portland there are tons of great food options a block or two away.

Yelp
Great service! Delicious food! Fun atmosphere! I had an impromptu networking meeting not knowing how many people would show up. They were super flexible and accommodating! Will be back for sure! And their patio is lovely.

Yelp
Excellent jaunt! I agree with earlier (and probably better written) reviews: this place rocks it. We were there during Friday's HH and I had an amazing Junebug that was so delicious and perfectly balanced that I want to go back. That does not happen often. And my fries were like those famous ones from the very first fast food chain: crisped to a golden caramel tan line, thin and beautiful with a delicious bourbon laced ketchup (of course!). The interior is appropriately dark and horsey with a kazillion horse shoes with people's names on the wall (no, I did not bother to investigate, sorry). Wonderful and good staff, checking on us regularly. Their location in the Alphabet district is great because there is plenty of parking around Couch Park (pay until 7PM!). So glad I went to meet my Yelpie friend @Tamara C.

Yelp
Drinks: can't remember the details of each but we got the following. The best were the ones notated with the stars. The happy hour prices are really on point tho ($6 a cocktail is almost free!). Half man Brown derby * Suzy Parker June bug Tequila renewal * Food: Brussels sprouts 5/5! So tasty. The roasted Brussels sprouts with those yummy candied walnuts. Would come back just for this Happy Mac: 5/5. Definitely made me happy! Surprisingly tasty and well done. Comes in a little cup. The pasta wasn't mushy. The cheese was nice and tangy. Pork sliders: 4/5 surprisingly good. Each one is about the size of a Hawaiian roll. Tasty with the pickles on the side. Deviled eggs: 3/5. This one was just ok. Confused about the pepperoncini in the middle and the greens underneath. Nothing to write home about. Definitely come here for happy hour. Decent drinks and actually surprisingly tasty food for a really good price. The outdoor seating is also quite nice. And a lot of shade under all the plants and trees.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance and bartenders are super friendly and knowledgeable. It's like going back in time when you go there.

Yelp
This is a place for serious cocktail fans, but with a casual vibe. Seating is available upstairs and out on the patio, but the best seats are inside the space on the ground floor. Great lighting and a speakeasy vibe. The bartender was insanely talented- both on and off the menu, every drink was a win. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Happy Hour is the best time to come and enjoy a cocktail and some bites! Located near 23rd, this lounge definitely has a laid-back feel, and during the summer (or even fall and winter, if you're bold), there is the option to sit back and relax on the wrap-around patio and/or outdoor seating areas. Indoors is definitely a little smaller, but if you go earlier, there is usually plenty of seating options. We really enjoyed their Hush Puppies, and really appreciate their take on the "Vegan Mac and Cheese". The Hush Puppies have the best dough texture on the interior, with a crunchy exterior, and paired with the sauce, is truly an amazing combination. In regards to the Mac and Cheese, I like the generous helping of cayenne, that helps lift the flavors of this dish. We have also had the regular Mac and Cheese before, but to be honest, I still prefer the Vegan option. We have also ordered the sliders before, and they are just okay. It could be better, but they are still pretty decent, and a good snack to munch on as we get to the real star of the show (and main reason we come), the Happy Hour prices! They have a great selection of whiskeys, and the waiters are more than happy to recommend their personal favorites. The cocktails are also super yummy. The Hot Toddy we had was slightly too intense for our liking, but both the Junebug and the Suzy Parker were super delicious! The waiters are also more than willing to adjust the liquors used for the cocktails, so definitely make sure to check in about this! Overall just a great, relaxed, and affordable Happy Hour!

Yelp
I like my perfect Manhattan shaken and they made it happen. Great whiskey selection and the bus stop is right down stairs. ;)

Yelp
On a chilly Friday evening in October, my friend and I strolled into Pope House Bourbon. A bit too cold to sit outside, we checked the upstairs bar, but no seats were available. Thus we headed to the first floor den, that was rather empty. Elyse took great care of us, even laughing at my stupid jokes. She mixed me a wonderful cocktail, and both my friend and I had a great time. Unfortunately, a restaurant reservation forced us to leave, or we may have spent several hours at Pope House, just another great cocktail bar in Portland.
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
We had a group (6) of us stop by here after a Timbers game. It was busy, but it is a large place with lots of seating, and good for accommodating a group like us after a game. The cocktail menu was adventurous, though I'd give my mezcal cocktail maybe a 7/10. We also ordered some deviled eggs, which I'd say were maybe a 6/10 -- good filling, but the eggs were cooked a bit much (a little rubbery). Service was great, and it was a nice place to catch up with friends.

Yelp
Attending Markers Mark 70th. Hats off to Markers Mark special barrel pick only available here. It is delicious. Music was awesome. Drinks were good. The Basil Smash...maybe muddle the basil so it has some basil flavor... It's forgiven since we are really here to celebrate the bourbon. Food...eat before you come...And sadly hush puppies are no longer on the menu.
google avatar

Alana R.

Yelp
A decent happy hour. The waitress was very pleasant. Nice assortment of bourbon and cocktails to choose from. The food came out quick. I adored the Brussels. The hummus was good as well. The deviled eggs are pickled so a bit firmer. I liked the seasoning on the deviled eggs but more flavor and garnishes wouldn't hurt.

Michael D.

Yelp
Pope House Bourbon Lounge is one of the best whiskey joints my wife and I have ever been to. Their selection is vast, ranging from the daily well drink to the most elite whiskeys in the country. The food was also incredibly delicious. We had the deviled eggs, Caesar salad, and tofu burnt ends. And it was the latter that stole the show. But like all businesses in the service industry, the "difference that makes a difference" is service, and Elyse and Anya were amazing. Anya was thoughtful and attentive. Elyse was so knowledgeable about all whiskeys, but especially bourbon. We will be back (possibly tomorrow). Thank you for a great experience.

Michelle D.

Yelp
Eeeep. I really wanted to like this place. It took the server 30 minutes to come to the table. I watched her chatting in the corner. It took them 30 minutes to bring my drink out. It wasn't very busy and we watched others around us get their drinks and food. The server never checked on us or refilled the water. The food was alright. The drink was good. I was just really annoyed with the service. I won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice servers, but about the worst Manhattan I've ever had. Atmosphere is interesting. Not cozy.
google avatar

Yelp
Pope House Bourbon is my jam for happy hour. 1) They actually do happy hour until 7. I'm from the east coast and I'm used to this, but it's damn near impossible to find happy hours until 7 this side of the Mississippi. Also, happy hour is ALL DAY Sunday and Monday! 2) None of that, "we offer happy hour prices on food...but it's a smaller portion" nonsense. You can easily get full off a couple of apps. The hush puppies are huge. And the hummus comes in like, a half mason jar. 3) The patio is lovely and shaded and somewhat secluded (and dog-friendly). 4) Their cocktails are good. Real good. But don't you all rush to get there at once. The place already gets crowded as is, especially when the weather's nice.

Yelp
We met their booth at toast Oregon, they had gumbo, gumbo, gumbo!! Ok, I don't like the mixed surf n turf, so I don't go gumbo, ever... I was excited to give it a try, and it was very good. Again, I'm a meat over seafood guy, but I love a good spread of meats and mixing them all when possible. They had a great booth, and a great staff!! I will be interested to see what the standard fare from them will be!! Thank you for being a part of the even

Yelp
Waitress was very rude. I asked to change my drink about a minute after I made my order, and she was very smug and rude when she told me no. The drink hadn't even been started and the restaurant was pretty empty. I had felt pressured when she came to take my order anyway, even though there was no rush at the restaurant. I haven't experienced that rude of a waitress in Portland before, actually, and not in many places. It's a beautiful place with nice ambiance, and the happy hour food was mixed. Brussel Sprouts: excellent Cesear Salad: don't order- some lettuce with a few croutons, basically Pork Sliders: Soggy with cold buns Deviled eggs: okay Hummus Plate: okay
google avatar

Ana R.

Yelp
By far my favorite happy hour! Enjoy delicious drinks and food in a charming Victorian home. Grab a table and be enthralled by the ambiance. Recommend the Brown Derby cocktail, pork sliders, and mac & cheese.

Yelp
Great spot. Maybe a little busy at this intersection if you are looking for a more romantic spot this isn't it but for those that want a busy New Orleans -esque vibe, this is a happening spot Thur-Sunday. Maybe the early week is more chill but last Friday was great getting out and people watching from the porch or lower seats. I've signed up for the Boubon Derby so I'll be back! Great cocktails, pub fare. Brussels and macs is savory. Fried chicken Sandro was bomb and the garlic aoli fries hit the spot. Pro tip: get a cheap bourbon and compare it to a mid or top shelf. Then you know what you like. I paired the Weller, Weller CYPB and Four roses. Sucks I liked them all haha. The CYPB is rare so get that next to another and you'll feel the butteriness, butterscotch vanilla.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and a drink tonight, the place is super cute from the outside. Pros: The food was quite good! Fried chicken was absolutely delicious, macaroni was a solid 4/5, and my partner's chicken sandwich and pasta salad were both excellent. I would absolutely recommend the fried chicken to anyone. The bar staff were delightful. One of the bartenders was doubling as the food server as well, and doing an excellent job. The ambience is great! Low light but not dark, cozy but not cramped. Cons: I only have a single con to list but it was bad enough to knock my review down multiple stars, and it's the service. We arrived at a few minutes after 6 and were seated immediately. Despite only having 3 other tables total, we didn't even get our drink order taken until after 6:30, and the drinks didn't arrive until after 7. A full hour elapsed between sitting down and receiving our drink order (and in case you're wondering if we had some elaborate order that took time to prepare at the bar, I had a Coke. It took an hour to get a Coke.). This was despite us sitting right next to the bar, where our server had to walk right past us to serve other tables. We were about to abandon ship and leave, but the drinks came literally as we were about to stand up, so we opted to stick around. Our food orders came up about 15 minutes later (put in at the same time as the drinks, so ~40 minutes after ordering), delivered by one of the delightful bar staff. Over the course of the next hour, our server returned once to ask if I needed a box. I had to flag someone down for a second Coke, our waters were never refilled, and I had to flag someone down again to request our check. It was another 15 minutes between getting the check and having it returned so we could sign and escape. I would probably return a while down the road to try some more of the food, but we'll definitely sit at the bar.

Yelp
Stopped in here for drinks and was overjoyed when our server informed us it was happy hour. NOTE: Happy hour for drink is 4PM-7PM daily and all day Monday. And happy hour for food is 4PM-7P, 10PM-close and all day Monday. The Pope House Bourbon Lounge is located in the Alphabet District off Glisan Street and 21st Avenue. The interior is charming and rustic as the bar is inside an old Victorian house. It feels like you're drinking at someone's house. Man muffin and I ordered: - Deviled Eggs $5 - Junebug $6 - Hank Smash $6 Tasty drinks, delicious snack, friendly service, and we only spent $20! Not a bad deal for happy hour and I would absolutely return and bring friends with me.

Yelp
Tl;dr: Tried their happy hour and was very impressed! Great drinks, good food, good area. I have been living in NW for a long time now but never went to this place! I have heard good things but would always frequent the places I was familiar with. A friend came to visit who liked to drink and who also has not been here before so I thought that it would be a good time to visit. We went during happy hour (4-7 on the Thursday we went) and it was fairly busy! We had to wait about 5 minutes for a table but that was expected in NW. The server was very sweet and moved quickly to get things taken care of. We were seated in the lower deck under the tent off to one corner. It was nice to see that the tables were spread out enough to be socially distanced but not so far away that I didn't feel like I was in one of Portland's bars. We ordered drinks off of their happy hour menu and off of their regular menu. Off the HH menu we got the Junebug and The Shifty for drinks, then hush puppies for snacks. Off the regular menu we got the Wendy Peffercorn to drink, and their mac and cheese for food. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD! Try them out for either their HH or regular menu-- you will not be disappointed.

James S.

Yelp
Amazing staff, super fun comedy nights, and a fantastic selection of bourbon. I haven't gotten to try their food yet but hope to soon.
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
This place is the perfect stop for happy hour and beyond. Great selection of specialty cocktails as well as allll the bourbons. The Half Man for $6??? Usually pay at least twice that elsewhere. The HH bites were an eclectic assortment that hit all the spots I needed hitting: deviled eggs, hush puppies, and Mac n Cheese is what the table had and all were tasty. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Jasmyne R.

Yelp
Happy hour drinks can be hit or miss and the food isn't that good either. With that being said all other cocktails that are not happy hour are pretty delicious. Their bourbon and other liquor collection is pretty expansive. I love going here and having a nice cocktail or a straight pour of Japanese whiskey. It's pretty chill and the workers have always been nice when I go there. They have a nice outdoor seating area.

Yelp
Heck yeah to my new neighborhood watering hole! After a week+ of being trapped inside at home because of both wildfires and COVID, this guy was feeling thirsty for both cocktails and human interaction. Fortunately, The Pope House was there for me and my boozy needs. An old Victorian house converted into a two-level bar, during normal times I prefer to sit inside at one of the nooks and crannies. Thankfully, they also have a really lovely multi-level patio, and we were able to get a seat right outside the front door. The vibe was great, looking over a lovely tree-lined street with nice lighting. It's a great atmosphere. As you might expect from the name, this place is mostly about bourbon, but they've got drinkers of all varieties covered. The specialty cocktail list is nice, but I was feeling particular and ordered two drinks off-menu: a boulevardier (basically a bourbon negroni) and a Oaxacan old fashioned (mezcal). I liked that the server didn't bat an eye at either of these orders, which gave me confidence that they'd make them well. And they sure did! Both were delicious. For food, I had the arugula salad (which was awesome), some wings (which my date said were very good) and some deviled eggs (which were pretty bad - tasted old and rubbery). But hey, two out of three ain't bad! Service was great. I had zero complaints and I thought she had a good sense of humor. They have a really solid happy hour from 4-7pm daily, except for on Sundays when it's all day! Very happy to have this spot in my neighborhood and I look forward to many return visits.

Yelp
First time here was last night!! I got the pork belly BLT... Let me just say that it was SO tasty!! Everyone who goes here should eat that!!! The mac salad on the sad was good too!! Unfortunately, I had work today so I decided not to drink last night... I know... This place has a million awesome drinks!! (I know I should have at least tried something ! Everything looked so good!) Next time I go, I will for sure be ordering a couple drinks! I love bourbon, so bring it!! My friend and I sat outside, the place is so cute! There was no room to sit inside, so we sat at a table on the porch. Anyone who was out last night knows that it was so nice out!! So we didn't mind sitting outside (: The only issue I had (wasn't with this place) it was with the dang PARKING! I used to live in the Pearl and I know parking is pretty much always a nightmare, but man.... sometimes I just hope for the best and end up getting super frustrated, and blame myself for even attempting to drive over there... Oh well, I still haven't learned my lesson, because I keep doing it!!! Other then the parking, the place is awesome!! I'll for sure be going back in the summer, and on other nice nights so I can sit outside!!

Yelp
Love the Spicy Mule and the atmosphere is very good for date nights! The selection of spirits is definitely outstanding! Wish I was in the neighborhood more often!

Yelp
Beautiful well-made cocktails, the hummus was about average, but the artichoke dip is some of the best I've ever had. We ran out of pita bread, and ended up eating the rest of it with a spoon.

Pope House has a great location and an even better selection of bourbons and other whiskeys. Not into bourbon? That is alright, there are cocktail options too. The ambience is great and during the summer, it is so nice to sit outside under the twinkly lights. That's the good. The bad is that my past two times visiting the service has not been great. Last time, it took nearly 20 minutes before a waiter even approached our table. I like this place but the service issue leaves much to be desired.

Yelp
Lame and so much more expensive than deserving. I have no idea how they justify their prices and the quality. Better move in.

Yelp
I walked over to Pope House to check out their happy hour that runs until 7 pm. I sat on the porch at one of the small patio tables and enjoyed the fresh evening air. Service was a little slow, but it was a full house and the server even apologized for the length of time I took to bring out the drinks. My first cocktail was the one with peach vodka and a float of champagne. I wasn't too crazy about it, it reminded me of an Aperol Spritz, minus the Aperol. The second drink I ordered, Holiday in Mexico, wasn't on the happy hour menu, but it was so good that I didn't care. The drink was well made, the mezcal was subtle, and the egg white rounded the drink out nicely. As for the food, the mac n cheese stole the show. I sat there telling myself not to eat the whole cup, but it was so deliciously cheesy and flavorful that I didn't leave any behind. The deviled eggs were the standard kind, five halves come in one order.

Yelp
I have no idea why this place is called the Pope Bourbon House. I'm sure there's a good story, but I'd just like to pretend it's the place retired Pope Benedict ran off to while battling the pressure of being the Pope........ listen I know that's not what happened but let me live, dammit. Regardless of the name you should make your way here. This was the perfect spot to have a happy hour. From 4-7, they have something special going on in here. Let's start off with the seating. Inside is nice and cozy, but the outside is where you want to be. The place was originally an old style house and has since been remodeled into a bar/restaurant. The front is gorgeous. Lights, trees, blue skies. On a nice warm day it can't be beat. Back to that happy hour, $6 cocktails! Yes, $6 dollar cocktails. Not mixed drinks. Cocktails. And the food is amazing! They got some nice sized sides for $5. That mac n cheese was fantastic. It's a bit spicy, and I liked it. The deviled eggs are delicious. Pickled in beet juice with mustard seeds, they kept me happy. Our server was terrific as well. She was really quick. Food and drinks were coming out fast. She was also super friendly and answers all questions. As we were leaving the place started getting packed. It was barely five yet, on a Thursday but we understood why. This place rocks.

Yelp
Met a group here...sat on the patio. Ordered a whiskey sour and brisket tacos. The whiskey sour was good...tacos were good...service was great. I would come back to try more drink/food on the menu

Yelp
I have been coming to Pope House for nearly two years and was happy to see them back open after the shutdown and figured this was a good time to show some love to one of my favorite watering holes. This excitement quickly changed when I enter the building. And will probably never return due to the dehumanizing treatment I experienced. It was exactly 3:50 pm and they open at 4. I peaked my head in and proceeded to ask the server if it was okay for me to sit at an outside table until they open in 10 minutes as she was responding at very RUDE bartender proceed with zero respect of customer service to YELL at me that I need a face covering on (fine not upset about the law at all). In all situation, people have choice to be human and respectful or an asshole and some people just are not trained to see people of color as an equal so it is impossible to show them respect. I would argue the bartender is the latter. People these days are losing there jobs for a lot less and I think Pope should have a hard conversation with this bartender because he clearly has issues with POCs. Beyond that a little more information about the incident. Moreover, at this point there are only three of us, I am well over 10 ft away from the woman I am talking to and I lower the mask so she could hear me. My point is I had a mask on and if this bartender respected me as a consumer or even me as a human being he could have politely said "Hey sir, I notice you have a face cover please pull it up, just a reminder face covering must be worn while inside" simple and humanistic! But oh no, because this bartender has no respect for a person of color he felt he did not have to be nice or take the time to assess the situation, mind you, they have no opened yet and there is no rush so his contempt was unwarranted. When I pulled my mask up and push back on why he felt a need to be rude he gave me his hand and walk into the back and start to complain about me loudly to another staff member! The bottom line is there is another way to talk to people and if black lives matter and we are working to create safe spaces for persons of color simple WORDS MATTER!! I employ the management to look at this incident and make a hard decision because this individual is clearly not prepared to deal with people in our new normal, he is not ready to embrace inclusion in its various forms and ensure that Pope House is not only safe but welcoming to all (also, I think I read an article that due to system racism and oppression that Blacks and other POCs are exempt from mask laws because of feelings of being unsafe, not sure if that is true but just another wrinkle in all this). Finally, the manager on duty came out to speak to me because the barter was unwilling to do so. Yet when he came out instead of supporting the consumer he doubles down and supports the bartender's position and tone. This is sad because yet again in the culture of white supremacy we blame the victim and not the oppressor. I will NEVER be back at this point because simply the environment at Pope house is not designed to make patrons welcome wait let me rephrase that "patrons of color to feel welcome"!! In a time when social justice and standing for something is paramount, I would encourage you all to seek drinks else unless you would like to buy virtue of your presence at Pope House agree and support the unhuman treatment of people of color! We must force businesses and companies to adhere to the values of our Portland community and the global community we are attempting to shape with nearly 40 days of protest. The police are an issue but changing the hearts and minds of everyday people is must pressing and rooting out negtivity and saying not in our city not in our business is the order of the day!! I hope management hears this and takes some hards looks at themselves!

Yelp
I've been to this spot a few times now and have even had the same waitress at least 2 times. The service is always spectacular and they are very helpful in helping you pick drinks or get an idea of flavors. Their drinks are always delicious and I love their elevated comfort food it's exactly what you want after a long work day. Their balcony has the cutest lights and it's nice that you aren't right on the sidewalk like other nearby spots but are in sort of a separate balcony area and can go inside as well if you so choose. Highly recommend for your next dinner with friends or that special someone.

Yelp
Went here last night with a group of friends and loved it! The cocktails and selection of bourbons is outstanding! 5 Stars. The wait staff? Awesome! 5 Stars. The ambiance? One of my favorite I've been to this weekend. The main area is part of an old house. It's like your dining in someone's living room. 5 Stars. The only thing was the food which was slightly hit and miss. I had the Sunday brisket which was flavorful and had a good spicy sauce. But was a little lean and slightly dry. My friend who had the Nashville fried chicken sandwich was raving about it. So I'd say go with that. Overall an awesome place with a bourbon tasting list as good as I've ever seen.

Yelp
A cozy lounge feel with excellent small plates that they chose to go with their bourbon list. The staff is knowledgeable about the bourbons and will gladly guide your Choices. Speaking of choices, choose the hush puppies. They are light and tasty.
