Popelini Review - Saint-Germain-des-Prés - Paris - The Infatuation

"After macarons, the chou—a cream-filled puff pastry—might be the most popular single-bite treat in Paris. This chain has 10 locations around town, and they sell choux in a huge range of flavors, like lemon, salted caramel, raspberry cheesecake, and seasonal specials like tarte tatin in autumn. Its Italian-leaning name stems from the old legend that Queen Catherine de Medici brought over an Italian pastry pioneer to perfect the bite-sized cream puff. And while you can, indeed, pop a whole one in your mouth, two bites may be best." - Sara Lieberman

Hands down the best thing I’ve tried in Paris for a sweet treat in 10 years of visiting. I’m happy I decided to take the walk from Marais to Montmartre or I would’ve never came across this God send of a patisserie. My fave flavour had to be the vanilla so I bought like 12 to take home a few days later ! The staff are really accommodating and kind and the shop is beautiful - I purposefully didn’t take photos of the store so you can experience it for yourself as it’s worth it on a sunny day - the vibe is cute.

Google
The best dessert in Paris. Every flavor is amazing, they’re all worth a try. Hamzah was amazing at the counter. I’d suggest you go there

Super delicious. Strongly recommended!

Google
This place is awesome! We came in and asked for flavour recommendations and were told to try then passion fruit one. I must say that one was a winner. We tried a couple other flavours but nothing was as good as the passion fruit one.

Yelp
Not too big on cream puffs but these were really good. You should definitely check these out if you're in the area

Yelp
Empty at 6:00PM on a Wednesday. Pros: -Delicious creme puffs--best dessert I had in Paris! Cons: -Expensive for how small they are (2-3 bites) -- 4.80 euro for 2: Madagascar Vanilla Cream Puff Cream puff with vanilla filling topped with vanilla fondant. The filling had flecks of vanilla bean and was outstanding! It was thick without being overly so (the chocolate cream was even thicker). The shell was not crispy as I had expected but rather just slightly chewy. The fondant on top just tastes like sugary, chewy icing and would have been better omitted. Still, I would definitely return for this and to try other flavors! Dark Chocolate Cream Puff Cream puff with dark chocolate filling topped with chocolate fondant. The filling is thicker than the vanilla and while good, this flavor was not as outstanding as the vanilla.

Yelp
We got there right at open, they were still placing them out when we were walking in. Super nice guy behind the counter explained what the flavors were and we chose 3 (for the two of us). Vanilla, a dark chocolate, and what he described as a tiramisu flavor. We walked to a park and decided to give them a try, that's when we realized the huge mistake we made... we only got 3!!! They were so good! I loved the dark chocolate and my wife loved the vanilla, while we BOTH loved "tiramisu" one (which we thought tasted more like Oreo flavor.) We went back a bit later and only got 4 more. Bu this time they were already out of the dark chocolate, so I settled for the "nougat" flavor which they said was like milk chocolate. Wasn't as good, but I don't think any flavor would be bad My only regret is that I'll (probably) never get to have these beauties again...

Yelp
OH MAH GOD. Thank goodness we stumbled upon this place when strolling aimlessly through Paris this afternoon. After having some delicious cream puffs from Maitre Choux in London just days before, I was almost sure that I couldn't find a pattisserie who makes choux pastries as well as the British dessert shop. And boy, was I wrong... Or maybe I was just feeling that way because it was such a pleasant surprise. We walked into Popelini with no idea what to expect and walked out wanting to walk right back in because those choux puffs knocked us off our feet! The pistachio and passion fruit were both amazing and so addicting. The choux was soft with a slight crunch on top thanks to the crackelin and chocolate disk. We wanted more, heck a whole box! But at 2.50(?) EU a pop we had to save the monies as other sweets were awaiting for us as we walked through the rest of the city filled with pattisseries at every corner.

Yelp
I still dream of Popelini. I wish they had one in California. So. Damn. Good. Every single cream puff was delicious.

Yelp
My love of cream puffs originated from my mother. Biting into the soft shell where inside hid a present of luscious, rich custard. I despised cream puffs filled with whipped cream, still do. It was raining the day we trekked to Popelini. We got a box of 12 small cream puffs for €22. A variety of flavors that gave it the novelty of macarons. The shell had a slight sugar crust to it, and on top of that were individual glaze patties. The rose was the most fun to try, but my favorite was the salted caramel. Delicious, cute, pretty creations that were as much fun picking out as they were eating haha. My favorite cream puff is still from Sugar Fixe Patisserie, but I highly recommend these unique little cuties xD

Yelp
I really like Popelini because there isn't anything like it. Their cream puffs are delicious and the shops have great presentation. It is simple and yummy. I went to the shop on Rue des Martyrs and fell head over heels for their lemon cream puff. I can't wait to get these for an apéro or celebration sometime.

Yelp
Excellent chou filled with chocolate. I was wandering down the street in search of dessert. Popelini had been on my list so I was glad to come across it. The dark chocolate chou was excellent.

Yelp
Definitely drop in to sample their wonderful cream filled pastries while touring Paris. The divine cream puffs are one of my favorites.

Yelp
This was one of our first stops in Paris since it is walking distance from our Airbnb. The store is cute, very pretty presentation, and the girl working was very nice. Her English was perfect too. The cream puffs are just way too sweet for my liking. We got the passion fruit and salted caramel and could only finish half of each. To each their own.

Yelp
A stroll down Rue des Martyrs is not complete without stepping into the small boutique. Beautifully presented puffs of Chou pastry filled with a delicate cream filling. Available in around 10 flavours and perfectly packaged in long boxes. The flavours are subtle and varied. A must next time you are visiting the area.

Yelp
There is not much to say about this place: they make pastries filled with a cream filling. I could go miles around describing their taste but I won't: they are just very good!

Yelp
Beautiful store on a great street selling incredible little puffs filled with unbelievably good flavored pastry creams. The salted caramel is superlative. Friendly and gracious service, as well.

Yelp
We tried an amazing puff with a strawberry crème that seemed to be made of yogurt - light and tangy and delicious. The rose-flavored choux was equally good, though the crème was thicker creamier. Both hot the spot perfectly.

Yelp
They're good, but honestly? A shop with only choux? It's a bit of a bore. Meet me at Pain du Sucre instead.

Yelp
I love everything about Popelini. The shop sells "choux à la crème" - little chou pastries filled with cream. When you walk in you'll see them all beautifully lined up behind a glass counter. Rows and rows of perfect little baked gems just waiting for you! You can order them individually or buy a box of 6 or more. I highly recommend buying a selection so that you can sample the different flavors (so far caramel, coffee and praline are my favorites). Don't get hung up on the price, just treat yourself :)

Yelp
Perfect spot for a sweet pitstop when your'e walking around in Paris. Try the salted caramel one. Or all of them!

Yelp
Chic, modern bakery that sells French pastry-- I don't know the name of it but it is like a cream puff with custard-like filling and additions outside of the puff itself. The deco and merchandising remind me of Sprinkles Cupcakes in Los Angeles. It's about 4 euros for 1 pastry unit. Popelini is the name of the original creator of the pastry.

Yelp
I like to take thèse to parties when I have to take a dessert and they are always a hit.... So delicious and the presentation is always outstanding!

Yelp
Wonderful little bursts of deliciousness! Worth a stop even if you aren't really all that hungry.
