"An almost defiantly old-school Putney steakhouse, this features a menu bereft of starters or frills; one comes here for the Aberdeen Angus beef, sold by size and cut, and it’s exceptionally good. The wine list, meanwhile, is heavy on the kind of strong claret that leads to flushed faces and jovial, sometimes witty conversation." - Alexander Larman

I went there at the end of July to celebrate my mother's birthday, lured in by the promise of "the best steak in London." The steak was OK, but nothing spectacular, and definitely not "the best." Not bad, but rather disappointing after reading the reviews. And I wish they had other sauces and not only the tray with open bowls of mustard that travel around the tables. The place completely lacks any atmosphere, it feels like you are dining by mistake in someone else's dark living room. To be fair, I would not recommend this pace.

I've been to a lot of steak houses in London and this is one of the best. Unpretentious, intimate and a menu that consists of steak and chips and nothing else (unless you could salad and puddings). And, ultimately, a steakhouse lives and dies by the steak and the steak here is one of the best I've had. Cooked to perfection, a great slab of meat and an exceptional selection of mustards and sauces. Not too pricey either, although they don't take cards so make sure you have enough cash on you.

Simply the best steaks South West London. Simple unpretentious decor. All it does is steak plus fabulous traditional British puds ...and superb matched wine list all at a reasonable price. We've been going for 20 years - say no more.

Very basic decore as all the money goes into the steaks.. love that fact it's steak only on the menu, the place knows how to do one thing very well. Chips are great too. The fact the red wine list is 8 times the thickness of the food menu is a nice touch.. PS. The sticky toffee pudding will push you over the edge...

I just had a 12oz sirloin steak where a good 1/3 of it was just a burn piece of fat. Instead of medium done steak, I was served with rare. I personally don't mind but I can imagine someone could be pretty unhappy about it. The stuff was friendly although it took them a good time to notice us. Make sure you have cash on you as they do not accept cards and the closest ATM is about 5-10min away near Sainsbury's.

Having read the reviews, I was expecting a lot more than what we got. The steak was good, but by no means the best. The salad... some bits of lettuce with a couple of cherry tomatoes. The service... the waiter forgot to bring us glasses when he brought the water and didn't ask us if we wanted dessert. We were one of the only two tables in the whole place, so no excuse really. The atmosphere... All in all an okay experience but I wouldn't encourage anyone to go there.

Really good steaks. Choose a cut, choose a weight and indulge! Every steak comes with chips and a large selection of sauces. Various mustards are on offer along with Bernaise and Ketchup. The puddings are excellent and a great way to top out a good meal.

I spent 5 years meaning to visit this restaurant, before finally having an excuse when my carnivorous sister visited town. Simply brilliant steak, aged to perfection and cooked to match. The no frills menu really isn't a problem if you are here for the steak. And who cares about decor when is this good?
