Google
First off let me say I love chicken and Popeyes was one of my favorites. I haven’t stopped at Popeyes for quite some time and never this location. The chicken tenders seemed like they had sat awhile under a heat lamp, not the best as before. They gave me a drink that had two lids on it that proved impossible to separate. This made my drink unusable as you couldn’t put a straw in it due to two lids. I was so frustrated I threw the pop in their parking lot. Better than spilling on me and the car, so thanks for a thirsty drive home! The biscuit was great the mashed potatoes were just ok, everything else was lackluster and way overpriced. 16 dollars and change, really! Next time I want chicken I’ll fry it myself.

So bad. You’d better close than selling these nasty meals to customers. The chicken pieces are small in size, so the piece is fully coated with a thick layer of breading and hardly you can bite any meat. The breading even isn’t crisp or crunchy, but hard and painful to teeth. I really felt that I punished myself when I decided to buy my dinner from you today.

We are big fans of Popeye’s bone in chicken and have been to many locations with great food and service. We give every restaurant about 3 tries before giving a poor review so here we are. We ordered thru the mobile app which won’t even let you submit an order until the location is open. In this case we ordered their 16 piece classic chicken and about 10 mins later went to pick up. At the drive thru we were told that they don’t open until 11:00 am and don’t have any chicken available but their app, front door and website state they are open at 10:30 am everyday. We didn’t have any other choice but to wait. At 11:00 am we went to the counter to pick up, but was told it would be another 20-30 minutes. When I asked the manager if I could just cancel the order and get a refund she said you can do it thru the app and they have no control over their 3rd party app. We weren’t able to cancel it thru the app and their support button was not operating so we were forced to wait. We tend to be patient because we are aware of the staff shortages but the entire time not one worker apologized for the wait and they didn’t seem interested in their jobs. This was a similar experience from the 4 other times we went to 2 locations #11491 & #11725. We probably will not return because it’s expensive and the service was terrible. We also tried to get our points but the app wasn’t working. When we contacted Popeye’s they said they could not give us our points because it was beyond the 7 day window. Just plain disappointed with our experiences.

UPDATED 04/18/2024 - If you read through a variety of the reviews here, you will see that it is definitely an inconsistent customer experience with this restaurant. I have been coming here for 6 years and that hasn't really changed all that much in that time. Sometimes you get great customer service and food, sometimes you are met with indifference and a dirty bathroom. I would like to say that as of late, I feel we are on the better side of that curve and have had more positive experiences than bad, which is definitely an improvement. Also, not withstanding restroom cleanliness which has been referenced but as I've never used the facilities I can't comment on, there has been a fair amount of effort put forth to spruce up the building and property. The parking lot is very clean, something that wasn't always the case and was very off putting. The building itself has been recently painted and is in good repair. Not nearly as dreary looking as it once was. The Burger King across the street didn't make it and the Wendy's has recently closed down as well but this location is still standing after 6 years, through the pandemic and all. They have a decent product and with the sometimes good and sometimes bad issues, I'm happy there still appears to be enough "good" to keep this Popeye's hanging around. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW (2018) - This location used to be great. It has fallen in quality a bit since then but still worth a visit if you are looking for a Popeye's fix.

Google
Popeyes serves the best chicken sandwich around. The chicken is always juicy and flavorful, with a perfect crispy coating. Every bite is consistently satisfying, making it my go-to choice for a great chicken sandwich. Popeyes never fails to deliver on quality and taste. I love this place. Get extra sauce

Google
They open at 10:30 on Sunday so we placed an order through the app, expecting it to be ready in 10-15 minutes, but at 10:45 , they rudely said through the drive through mic “We don’t open until 11”. It’s almost like every time we come here , the level of customer service gets worse and worse and there is always some issue. I understand if the place is understaffed, and since 2020, I’ve always given fast food/ restaurants a little bit more grace and allotted a little more patience , but as much as I love this delicious chicken, the customer service here is quite bad…. So at 11:00 am when they finally open, we were notified that our order would not be ready for another 30 minutes and again, they were rude about it. If you are ever going to come here , using the app is useless, and will not save you any time. Basic customers service skills and etiquette needs to be addressed for this place ….. Make sure you “love that chicken “ here because you are bound to be inconvenienced.

I could not finish the shrimp & tenders order. For some reason, it upset my stomach. A bit spicy, I guess - It was tasty though. I liked the red beans with rice though & would order it again.

Google
The food was good, as always. However it seemed that the only things on the staff's minds, were taking a break, and going home. The food had clearly been sitting on a heating rack for quite some time, and still took half an hour to receive. It was probably an isolated incident, and I definitely plan on returning. Thanks guys 😁

Yelp
My bottom bun was soggy the top was hard. Sandwich wasn't good at all. Staff was friendly though

Yelp
Can I give a negative rating? They were so Rude! See this is why I don't like drive thru service. I was in line for more than 30 minutes just to place an order...once the young lady came on the speaker, her tone was harsh and uninviting. She basically put me on hold for another 15 minutes. I finally ended up leaving...with no food. I couldn't take it anymore.

Yelp
Stopped into this location on 2/29/2020 to grab something eat and I'm here to tell I've experienced the worst customer service in my entire adult life. How can 4 different people look at and not say absolutely not. I thought maybe things have changed with this chain restaurant here in Indianapolis. Thank for never disappointing me. I have not bought anything from Popeyes and I will continue not to.

Mel M.

Yelp
Outside of their signature food, this place is beyond terrible. The food almost doesn't justify coming here. After the torment you have to encounter just to order! They need a good lesson in customer service and FAST! I've never encountered anything this unpleasant in a long time. Unless your dying to have chicken, don't go! And if you do go through the drive through.

Yelp
For a Friday night just after the return of the chicken sandwich, I was surprised that the store was not exceptionally busy. Service was competent if unspectacular, and pleasantly fast. What was not good was the food. I ordered one of the chicken sandwiches and a 3 piece Voodoo Tenders, both with sides of red beans and rice. My tenders barely had any sauce on them and were cold. One felt like it hadn't been cooked all the way through, and one was extremely fatty with almost no meat. The sandwich was also cold to the point that grease had congealed onto the bun. Both orders of red beans and rice were runny and flavorless, like they'd been watered down. In addition, the Freestyle soft drink machine was out of virtually everything except for Sprite and Barq's. Not even Coke, not even any of the flavorings (vanilla, cherry, etc.). I understand that in the recent mania over the chicken sandwich, some stores might be feeling the weight of being understaffed, but again, the store was not exceptionally busy nor did it show signs of having been unnaturally busy earlier. The lobby was clean, trash bins were recently changed, napkins and straws were in stock, and none of the staff seemed stressed out or overworked. I work at a fast food restaurant myself and I understand those days when things don't work out right. But I have no idea why, despite an agreeably fast service time, my food was still cold and barely edible. Again, the service itself was not unreasonable, and the store was clean, so I am all the more puzzled as to why I received such poorly-made, cold food.

Yelp
Now it's easy to remember why I have only driven through this Popeyes once before. The chicken is what it is, and that's O.K. with me. The service is an issue. I ordered 2 thighs and 2 legs. Got home with 2 legs and 2 wings. I called to suggest more training, or maybe posting pictures of the chicken pieces so the folks packing the orders would know the difference. They did offer to exchange it if I drove back up. Should have chosen Skyline to fill my poor food choice day.

Yelp
The customer experience at this location blows! I don't want to hear anything about the delays due to the spicy chicken sandwich or anything of that nature because it only took me 3 minutes to get to the speaker to place my order. It took me another 13 minutes to get to the window to pay for my order and another 12 minutes after that to get my order which consists of only two spicy chicken sandwiches in one biscuit. From where I was positioned I could see six other people working inside the which means there were more. Only one was working the front counter and I suppose all of the others were twiddling their dicks and refilling their own personal beverage cups as the trash outside overflows. At no point did anyone ever come to the window after accepting my payments to apologize for the delay. The young lady simply handed me my bag and said have a good day. What would have helped this entire operation would have been to Simply ask cars to pull forward so that they can hand food out to the ones that were ready. What a joke. Back to the drawing board with regards to customer service and customer experience. Oh, the chicken sandwich was okay but nothing to write home about.

Nick H.

Yelp
Typical horrible Popeye's customer service. Sat in line for 20 mins for the new chicken sandwich only to find out they were out. Ordered some spicy chicken and was told to pull up. Sat here for 30 more minutes before some rude idiot came up to the car asking what my order was, and walked back without saying anything. 10 more minutes pass, and I finally got my food. No apology, no accommodations, just crappy service for mediocre fried chicken... Seems like Chick-fil-a is still the best!

Justina W.

Yelp
In the store right now. There is a blue Malibu parked in the drive lane. Not in a spot, just in the lane! And, there is a girl behind the counter eating, and liking her fingers. ..what in the world? Been here for about 1/2 hour. Car is still there! Somebody told here the car was there, she said she forgot about it, but she didn't move it!

Barb F.

Yelp
We decided to try the famous chicken sandwich today. The cashier said they didn't have any ready and it would be a 20 minute wait. (We are not sure how this happens!) There were several people ahead of us waiting. I ordered tenders but they were out of bbq dipping sauce. My husband decided to wait for the sandwich which he ordered with mayo only. When it came out it had no mayo. But once he added the mayo, he said the sandwich was great! Management just needs to step up!

Chris B.

Yelp
Worst Popeyes in Indy. Food was not hot, employees were extremely rude and were not wearing hair nets or hats. Avoid this location like the plague.

Kelsey J.

Yelp
This location needs to get there stuff together. For the last 2 days I have had nothing but issues here. Trying to lock down a turkey for Thanksgiving. Monday I called and asked if they had any, they informed me they did, and I said ok I'll be there in a bit. Get to the location within an hour of the call to find that the building is locked (during their posted business hours) with no posting, check the other door thinking it's a mistake, nope that one was locked to and no notice. So try the drive through, and am told they wont be opening until 1:30. Again no posting. Try calling after I got off work to receive no answer and a voicemail box that is full. Call back on Tues, right after they open, they inform me they fo have turkeys, I confirmed they were operating on normal hours and drive over. I place the order for the turkey (getting excited) and pay for it, to then wait about 10mins. After walking up to the counter to inquire am I told they dont actually have any. I was refunded my money, but how hard is it for you to double check before completing the order. Especially on a limited time item.

Tom H.

Yelp
Stopped in today for my first spicy chicken sandwich. Service was horrible. I waited 25 minutes to get the sandwiches. The place needs to get a manager who knows what he/she is doing.

Howard R.

Yelp
I came to try a chicken sandwich and some sketchy employee was standing outside. She asked if I wanted to order a chicken sandwich (that just released a few days ago), and I told her yes. She said the manager said that they weren't gonna sell the sandwiches until 4pm, but that she could hook me up with 4 of them for 20 in cash. They were also out of half of the product on their menu.

Re W.

Yelp
I have ordered and ended up leaving numerous times due to the long wait. This is supposed to be Fast Food, but it isn't. The owner needs to do something...

Katelyn P.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars, I would. I went to this location around 7:30 pm tonight and as I was pulling through the drive thru, from an empty parking lot I head a worker yelling "aye I'm out of chicken. If you want chicken you'll have to go somewhere else". I find this to be extremely professional. Screaming at a customer though the parking lot to go somewhere else, as opposed to just simply letting them know when they come through the drive thru that you're out of chicken but have plenty of other things to offer on the menu. Also, as a fast food chicken restaurant running out of chicken seems a bit odd. Finally, if the employees are going to sit in the parking lot 4 hours before the store closes to tell people to go elsewhere since you're out of chicken, just close the store for the night. New to this area and really disappointed in my experience tonight.

Corey C.

Yelp
Food was good. But took 17 minutes in the drive through when there were only 2 of us and they were not busy inside. Giving 4 stars because I don't know what caused the slow down. Could have been something out of their hands. The gentleman who brought the food out to my car finally was very friendly.

Reelle L.

Yelp
The chicken tender batter was way too salty and although I forgot to ask for sauce, I wasn't offered any either so I drove off with over salted dry chicken with a biscuit with No butter or honey. The service and the chicken was DRY

Lalo B.

Yelp
8pm on a Sunday, only thing they claim they have is sandwiches and fries . Who runs this location?

Hannah K.

Yelp
Very poor service. No sense of urgency. Rolls her eyes when I ask for a substitution. I'm a doordash driver and my job relies on fast food restaurants being, you know, fast. They do not care about your time. Only about their hours and pay.

Lua S.

Yelp
I don't understand how this location is still in business. They're out of everything, all the time. And it is like pulling teeth to get anyone who works there to provide actual service. How does a chicken place run out of chicken? You have one job. Save yourself the aggravation, and drive to the one in Fishers or Carmel.

Matt N.

Yelp
Horrible service. They didn't give us almost half of our order, and when we asked for it, there was no apology. They weren't busy, and they certainly weren't in any hurry. We were the only ones in line, and we waited almost 10 minutes to order.

Mr. H.

Yelp
I guess the only reason I returned is because they're one of the few places that sell chicken pieces nearby. When I tell you that 95% of the time this place (THIS LOCATION ONLY,let me clarify because when you go to other Popeyes Louisiana locations nearby you don't get the same treatment ,service, or quality of food), but this one on 82nd in castleton, Has the absolute worst customer service. With CHILDREN working counters and if the KIDDOS aren't there, the ADULTS working with a childish mentality. It is almost like they're training there employees to INFURIATE their consumers. Understanding that chicken can take awhile to prepare, it seems like they wait purposefully until someone arrives before they prepare the chicken which would be fine if they made everything to order but that is not their M.O. ,they're supposed to be "good chicken really fast" and this has RARELY if EVER been the case at THIS location. Often seems like the general manager is stressed out, possibly due to the fact that a bunch of INFANTS are taking care of the orders presented by customers. Heed this warning and head over to a different location for your pleasure. Use the Yelp app to find the nearest one ,I believe there's one in FISHERS not too far as well as PENDLETON PIKE right by I465.

Phil B.

Yelp
Not good. The actively disengaged staff made it a point to tell me how long each thing I ordered would take in an effort not to have to cook it. I settle on chicken tenders (only going to be three minutes on those), with blackened ranch dip. Simple enough. Three minutes becomes fifteen, and when I get them, they're rock hard undercooked, and I have some sauce called Sweet Heat instead of Blackened Ranch. Inedible.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to this location around 7:35pm and went through the drive thru. The person taking out order told us to look over the menu while we gave them a few moments. This wasn't a problem as I work in food and appreciated that they greeted us right away no problem waiting a minute or two to order, we waited and she finally told us sorry for the wait. We ordered a number 5 meal and they immediately told us they didn't have mild only spicy and We said okay then she quickly stated oh never mind it'll be a few minutes but you can get mild and so we continued with our order also getting a number 6. We waited in line and we got up to the window and the cashier was rude, told us our total and didn't read our order back. She handed us the drinks and the card back and shut the window. Our drink order was incorrect and the cashier had her arms crossed just leaning up against the counter, when she could've been helping with orders or staying busy. Finally she opens the window and is flustered and says I'm sorry but we only have spicy and you already paid what do you want to do..? My boyfriend says spicy is fine and she closes the window then opens it up again fast and says never mind we have mild but their frozen so it's gonna be another 5 mins. We'll give you extra. We said okay and she asked us to pull up. We finally received our food at 8:10pm with no napkins and no sauces also they didn't give us anything extra like they said they were going too and we don't want to wait in the drive thru any longer so my boyfriend ended up going inside for sauce..Outrageous wait times in the drive thru.. rude customer service and incorrect orders...

Zelda C.

Yelp
Just tried this place for the first time. Not bad. Our chicken was great! My daughter actually wanted to eat it, which is a practical miracle. Biscuits were nice and buttery, too. Will definitely be back at some point.

Dian B.

Yelp
Visited this location on Saturday night and from the moment we drove up to order we were met with rudeness. Then we get to the window to get the food and was met with more rudeness, not a smile or happy face, and I don't think she even talked to us other than "sign this" and "here you go". Then didn't even give us our drinks and when we called her out on it she got even more rude, then tried to not give us the amount of drinks we ordered, it just almost seemed like we were a thorn in her side that she had to deal with. The food was good but the service was horrib le and to me that's enough to make me drive past next time!!!
