Where to Eat and Drink in Round Top

"This family-friendly burger joint is open daily for lunch, slinging meaty handhelds, loaded bowls, and classic sides in a casual space peppered with picnic tables. The restaurant’s namesake dish is a classic backyard-style burger, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles, but guests can amp it up with the addition of cheese, avocado, and jalapenos. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Megha McSwain

We drove up and parked in the back where it is spacious. When we walked in, we walked to the counter to order our food and drink. The menu is on paper and on a TV screen. I ordered a popi burger with avocado ($2 extra) with fries and a chocolate milkshake. They use real ice cream to make their milkshakes. After about 10 minutes, our food came out. It was hot and greasy. Very tasty burger. Ketchup, straws and napkins are available and you get them yourself. Lots of seating room for small and large parties. Food is served on a metal tray and when you're done, you clean up after yourself and drop off trays in a bucket. Very clean restaurant. Lots of investing stuff to look at inside. Bathrooms are very clean too.

Google
The burger had a decent flavor, the tater tots were pretty good, and the salad was fresh. The men’s restroom was very dirty and low in toilet paper, and the women’s room was clean but also low in toilet paper. We were 2 of 4 customers in the restaurant around noon. I’m not sure if it’s worth the price, as we spent $37 (with tip) on 2 burgers and one small side we were told was a “shareable” size ($4). The food came out quickly, and all of the condiments were stocked. I hope that the servers share tips with the kitchen.

They’re known for their burgers, but I was a bigger fan of the fries. Cutest little area. If weather permits. Nice outdoor area to sit and eat. Don’t forget your free ice cream before you leave.

Google
Popi bacon cheeseburger..YUMMO, FRIES VERY GOOD. Chicken salad served on a huge piece of homemade bread. They have a ding dong cake that a woman drove here just for it. Pic below. Downsides, can be long line, ran out of tea (busiest time of the day, God bless them) $4 for a bag of lays OR for the same $4 amazing fries or onion rings?? SKip the overpriced chips. Chicken salad lacking ..but they have a pimento cheese..if that's your thing..you should come here! Most interesting thing no one might tell you..GO UPSTAIRS TO EAT..

Don't waste your hard earned money! When I commented on how expensive things were in Round Top, she said I was lucky because they hadn't jacked up the prices yet for the show. Apparently next week will be even more expensive. Probably would have still been less expensive to drive to La Grange and get a better burger and onion rings at Whataburger.

Google
I've been here maybe 5-6 times not including today. And let me tell you. These burgers are great !! They recently stopped doing the burger special which is sad . You could get the popi burger with fries and drink for around $9. Now it's a $9 burger , $3 fries , and a $3 drink . So my meal increases to about $16 with tax . Sooo yea it's way more expensive now, but it won't stop me from eating here!

Google
Good stuff, pretty quick and the prices aren’t terrible. The burgers and onions rings are highly recommended, I would pass on the fried chicken sandwich.

Google
This place has tasty burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. It's a nice clean restaurant with outdoor seating and friendly service.

Yelp
Food was good and service was fine considering it's a restaurant and not a fast food place. Nice atmosphere. Bathroom was kind of dirty but not unbearable.

Carson K.

Yelp
Very overpriced. $15 for burgers and sandwiches with no sides or drinks. The food tasted like it was from a cafeteria at best. Service was not friendly. Worst part of Round Top trip by far. Save your money and go literally anywhere else

Yelp
The Popi burger and fries were sooooo good! Best burger in a very long time! The service was a bit slow due to Market Days ... but, it was so worth the wait!'n

Yelp
Poppi Burger's ratings should be less than what they are given....the hours are not open as indicated...chose a different restaurant with a staff that is willing to provide a service!

Charles S.

Yelp
They post close at 3pm, only open for 4 hours a day during big week of Roundtop, and we're very rudely told they were closed at 2:45pm. Been there at least 4 times but guess no more ......

Yelp
Heard good things about this place - Met family for a birthday lunch One of the best burgers that I've had in a long time (everyone was happy with their order). The onion rings are also great. I will definitely think about stopping by when I am anywhere nearby

Yelp
Eating the food here is the biggest mistake I've made in 2022. The burger is bland at best, the fries were borderline warm and soggy, and quite frankly I wouldn't be surprised is the burger was made of mystery meat. Considering what you will pay for a subpar meal, stay away. Go to McDonald's, you'll be much happier.

Yelp
The hubs and I wandered in here because Royes cafe was packed full. We shared a Caesar salad and tots. This was plenty for two for a light lunch. The food came out fast and restrooms were clean. This seems like a straightforward place if you just need a quick lunch.

Yelp
Been here twice. Very bland burgers. Tastes like no salt or pepper was used at all. Nice atmosphere though

Yelp
Horrible burgers, no burgers on kids menu. My sister waited for 35 minutes for 3 burgers then was told another 30 minutes when they had just a couple other customers waiting. Luckily they gave her a refund. My family ordered our burgers medium and came out very well done almost burnt. Been here once before a few months back and didn't have a good experience but wanted to give them another chance but will not be back again, ever.

Yelp
Really expensive and nasty! Bun was so soggy and wet I had to remove meat and eat by itself. Tomato was an end. They only thing edible was the cold patty. If I hadn't have been so hungry I would have thrown the whole thing in the trash! They had no condiments. It cost over $13. Don't go! You will be disappointed!

Yelp
This is a classic burger place in downtown Round Top. Their menu is simple, the portions are enormous, and their space is fun and clean! If you need classic American options, this is an excellent option in downtown Round Top! Onion Bun Burger with Onions and Cheddar Cheese (4/5): Their burgers are great. Their patties are huge and meaty, the condiments are fresh, and they have plenty of toppings to choose from. My sauteed onions were perfectly cooked. The only problem with this burger was the onion bun. I would recommend just getting a standard bun. Their onion bun was undercooked and sticky. French Fries (5/5): Their fries are thin and crispy, just the way I like them! Onion Rings (5/5): Their onion rings had a perfectly crispy batter and soft onions inside! Tater Tots (5/5): These were my favorite side. They were big and very crispy. If you are deciding between these and French fries, I would recommend getting the Tater Tots. Chocolate Milkshake (5/5): Their milkshakes are massive! They are delicious and great for splitting between two or even three people! This place is great for groups. Their burgers are quality and very customizable. Their service was friendly and fast!

Yelp
Let me start by saying this was the absolutely worst food I have ever seen served in my life. Chicken fried steak was spoiled and would break a window if tossed like a Frisbee. Gravy was so thick we thought it was mashed potatoes. Fries were room temperature and this is after sitting under a heat lamp for 10min waiting for them to call our buzzer. Tables were dirty and ice machine was broke as the waitress told us to stick a spoon inside to unclog. Nothing was fresh all frozen box food. All the food we seen coming out looked horrible as well. I didn't think to take photos but beware shall you choose to eat here.

Yelp
Place an order to dine-in. Which was a bacon popi burger, fries, fried oaka and a bowl of Chili. After patiently waiting for 20mins I noticed customers who arrived and order after me were getting their order. So I ask the waitness if my order was ready she stated we're waiting for bacon. Another 10mins pass by more customers were getting there burgers with bacon. It wasn't until I waited by the counter I received my food 45 mins later. I asked if the chili was made in house they stated yes. But it look and tastes like wolf brand can chili. The bun on the burger was wet. I would not recommend this place....

Yelp
A great place to grab a home cooked burger with all the fixins for a casual break during a fabulous fall day at Round Top. Cold beer on tap. Sports on TV. Indoor and outdoor dining. Pepsi products (which could be the only dealbreaker for southerners but the tea is fresh and sweet.)

Michael M.

Yelp
Only open sometimes, burgers are overpriced by 25% Very cold ambiance. Needs to be overhauled.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Horrible! This was one of the biggest restaurant mistakes my husband and I have ever made. The buns were burned, the meat was dry from over cooking and hadn't been seasoned, the tomatoes were unripe and hard. When we went there was only one other person in the restaurant so all the mistakes weren't made because of a big rush. And to make matters worse, the cost was ridiculous for such poor quality and service. I had wanted to stop there for so long and was beyond disappointed.

Yelp
We tried "breakfast" which was a joke. There is no breakfast menu which should have been my first clue, ordered a sausage bisket, waffle and two coffee's and the bill was $28!! The sausage bisket was tiny, I would have been embarrassed to serve this for $10 and the $8 waffle was good except no butter. We won't go back because they are simply gouging their customers as if there are no other options, which there are.

Anna L.

Yelp
GREAT place! We love burgers, and this one had to be one of the best we've had!! My husband & I were going to split the double burger, but I'm guessing we could easily split the single. Amazing flavor & why not choose the jalapeño bun for your bacon cheeseburger?! Fried okra, fried jalapeños (made like poppers) & onion rings all amazing!

Yelp
WORST lunch ever--$35 for two tasteless hamburgers that were burned and the hamburger salad bowl was full of water at the bottom. We drove 40 miles for a nice Round Top lunch and Popi's was still on the limited overpriced Antique Week menu way after Antique Week was over.

Yelp
The burger was amazing!! The staff was so friendly, helpful, fun to talk to and great service. The food was great and a fun place to grab a bite!

Yelp
Nice little place. It was pretty busy. Prices were good. But the patty was thick and not very flavorful added salt and pepper but it was still missing something. Kids grilled cheese was pretty good.

Yelp
We got burgers, chicken sandwich, beer, wine, margaritas, fries, onion rings and tater tots. The fried chicken sandwiches and the burgers tasted like they had been precooked and microwaved - tough and dry. The fries were limp and not at all fresh, the tater tots looks greasy and like they had been cooked twice. The first margarita was amazing and delicious. The second was out of whack with way too much triple sec and too much tequila. We won't be returning here. SO disappointed, but understanding why there were very few folks here when Round Top was stuffed to the gills with people.

Yelp
Was greeted with friendly staff and no line - around 11:30am on a Sunday. GF and I both got burgers, which run a half pound each, and sides of fries and okra. The sides were delicious! Burgers were cooked well with a little bit of char on the sides of the patty. Great flavor overall. Two regular burgers and 2 sides(separate charge) puts you back at $25 before tax and tip.

Yelp
I recently wrote a review for Popi Burger's sister restaurant Manditos. They are both on the main street in downtown Round Top. I love Round Top and am there often. I like to bring my friends and family on the weekend and entertain. After a disappointing meal at Manditos on Friday night we ventured into Popi Burger on Sunday for lunch - really because it was one of the only places open with a patio. I have eaten here before and last time I did I told myself I was not going back. Like Manditos - they were short staffed but I was not even bothered by that - the staff was nice and helpful and obviously trying to do their best - but the food...... another sysco version of everything - hamburger patties, buns, fries - chili - yikes. I ordered a burger bowl - I was grateful they had this option- but the burger was charred - hardly edible and as I had haggled to get our order right the first time I decided not to bother with asking them to remake it. We also ordered Chicken fried steak - another sysco deep fried something - with gravy that was like glue. I do not expect much from a burger joint - but Whataburger and McDonald's are better. I can look past the staffing issues - because I know it is really hard now - especially in a small town - however the food was just junk. Please give us not just an option for burgers in Round Top - but a reason to come back - again and again!

Douglas H.

Yelp
My cheese burger at Popi Burger reminded me of the burgers the school cafeteria served when we were kids. The meat was dry, unimaginative and tasteless. If you're visiting Round Top, skip Popi Burger. Try Mandito's across the street for Mexican food or Royer's Cafe, a Round Top staple, for burgers, pies, chicken-fried steaks and everything else. If they're open. If you are really hankering for a burger, drive over to nearby Columbus and try the Dairy Cone. It's an old-fashioned drive-in serving the best burgers in the area.

Theresia K.

Yelp
Bland burgers no flavor. The meat had no flavor and no seasoning. Way over priced cost $73 for five people to eat burgers. The fries were cold and soggy. They really need to step it up if they gonna make it. We were only table in there at 12:45 on a Friday lunch and took over 15 minutes to get food. For as expensive as they are they could at least bring your burgers to your table when ready.

Mary L.

Yelp
Stopped in at 7:00 on a Thursday. We were greeted at the door with "we are closing soon". When questioned what time they closed we were told "30 minutes?",as if she wasn't really sure. (This May be because their posted hours are until 8:00 pm.) Anyway; we were allowed to order. Burger bowl for me. Cheeseburger with onion rings for the husband. Food was adequate. Nothing to rave about. Burgers not exactly "juicy" and the onion rings were standard frozen; not hand battered as we had hoped. While eating we were asked if we would be wanting any soft drinks; apparently they were shutting down the machine? Didn't affect us; we had ice tea and water. My husband did attempt to get more tea; it had been removed. The staff also began sweeping the floor around us while we ate. Close to 7:40 a man came in; we heard him ask 3 times if they were open; someone finally responded and they decided they could/ would serve him. We left around this time as 3 more groups were arriving; they were must have been turned away; as they promptly left and went to another joint a block away. This restaurant is new and they may be trying to work out the kinks; but the owner is NOT new to the food service industry This was a disappointing first (possibly last) visit for us. Poor customer service leaves a bad taste even when the food is good.

Lawrence R.

Yelp
Terribly long service. In line for 15 minutes and then another 45 minutes to get our burgers. The food is average at best. Unfortunately there are few other choices in town but try anything else.

Ray L.

Yelp
Disgusting! I had the burger on a previous visit and was impressed with the flavor and size of the patty. This time I ordered some food to go; two chicken fried chicken dinners with sides and cobbler. I got a chicken fried chicken and a chicken fried steak; the crust on both was burned or cooked in old oil and inedible. The sides were good, but the cobbler was a 3" splat in the carton and did not resemble cobbler at all. Dining in Round Top is hit or miss, and this was a big miss.
