"Thanks to its brightly colored cans and the promise of prebiotics, or plant compounds that encourage gut flora growth, Poppi has taken over social media. The brand boasts classic soda flavors, like root beer and cola, along with more creative combinations like raspberry-rose and cherry limeade, all made with less sugar thanks to the addition of stevia. While the cola and root beer are pretty good for “healthy” sodas, the raspberry-rose flavor is definitely worth checking out even if you don’t care about the purported benefits." - Amy McCarthy

Poppi is a neighborhood gem! The 3.8 rating is undeserved from the experience my friend and I had here! This is an absolutely delightful spot to grab a coffee, hot chocolate, sandwich, pastry and apparently they serve wine too! We needed a place to help tide us over before an event at the Explorers Club just around the corner and the manager David and barista Andy took care of us like family! It is a teeny tiny shop space and has a delightful cozy vibe- we had hot chocolate they had non dairy options- we also had a sandwich which was perfect to hold us over and bump up our blood sugar- the matcha cake was Devine and so was the croissant- they were extremely welcoming and we had a great conversation with them- they shared some great local places for us to check out when in the neighborhood again- can’t wait to come back and say hello! Great place highly recommend!

A very cute small cafe. I visited early morning for a cup of coffee and chocolate croissant both were delicious. They have outdoor seating which was nicely decorated and cleaned. Haven’t tried anything else yet would visit again.

A decent but tiny coffeshop near Central Park, also serving some booze. The matcha latte was ok, but slow service. Extra $1 for a non-dairy milk is robbery. There are 4 tiny tables inside and 5-6 outside. I like live flowers on the tables, such a nice touch.

Great service! I don’t usually get iced cappuccinos because they aren’t very much different than lattes in most cafes. But here! It is worth trying the iced cappuccino! The milk is so well frothed, it holds its texture for the whole time it takes to enjoy the beverage. I came here in the evening, so I will not speak much about the almond croissant, but it was crispy enough. Plenty of outdoor seating with bright orange umbrellas and even some indoor seating. The barista was knowledgeable and friendly. The patrons are having a good, relaxed time. Will be back!

The guy who take the order is very rude and not welcoming us at all! Maybe because of our Arab origin .. i don’t know he was so rude and upset out of the blues !! And he have an attitude toward us!! Anyway the coffee taste good and nice decorated coffee shop other than that the service was bad .

Google
What a nice spot! But more importantly, the coffee is really good! Made my morning. Also very instagram worthy. I was just not in the right outfit otherwise it would be a mini shoot hehe.. a must try, much better than Ralphs coffee..

I went in this morning to get a hot drink. I ordered a large English Breakfast tea from their menu. I was given a small cup, perhaps 10 Oz. with 1 teabag. When I asked for milk, he looked at me with a disgusted look on his face and questioned my choice. I paid $5 for an average tasting tea that was served to me by a very judgemental individual. Will not return.

Very cute, very Italian cafe in the upper east side. Comfy sidewalk seating on 69th just off Madison. Perfect spot to stop for a spell after hanging in Central Park on a hot August summer day. An Aperol Spritz and a pastry to boost my energy. Then inside I saw this sign where this place is an offshoot of a vineyard in Tuscany and suddenly all the little classy touches made that much more sense. Very subtle and Italian - bellísimo

Yelp
This was a cute tiny little coffee shop which I stopped at once. Apparently it closed due to rent issues and it's going to be replaced by Birley Bakery which is a French spot originally in London. The salon on the other floor also went out of business for the same reasoning it seems. https://eastsidefeed.com/food-and-drink/london-based-bakery-to-open-two-floor-shop-on-ues/ Anyway, I remember it was quaint and the people were nice. I wasn't in there long and a few folks were sitting outside though I remember it being a bit brisk that day/it was perfect walking weather. Had a kouign-amann, a buttery pastry from Britton which inspired the now very popular cronut. It wasn't as buttery as other spots which is honestly not a bad thing and the bottom had a good texture. Would have gone back.

Yelp
A cute Italian bakery in the heart of the Upper East Side! Inside it offers a homey yet chic vibe for your morning read and coffee. You can also sit outside and can get this little Italian coast feelin' from the bright orange umbrellas reminiscent of an Aperol spritz moment I had in Italy last summer. I had their ice coffee with oak milk and it was what I needed. I didn't try any food items but they do over a range of baked goods. Folks inside ordered things they've ordered before (based on conversation). This place offered the Italian moment I was seeking.

Yelp
What a cute coffee shop and great addition this is to the area. I actually came across it a few months ago as I thought they were open but turned out they were not fully open at that point but I was still able to get an iced latte. The sandwich I got was ham, ricotta, and tomatoes. It was pretty tasty. They have also other wonderful pastries. They have some tables indoors but also a bit of outdoor seating to. You can take in the sights and sounds and people watch on Madison ave. The coffee is delicious. I got an iced latte. Yummy!! If you are in the area deff check out this cute place and nice staff too.

Yelp
While this was a cute place and a good spot to add a cafe, I felt it was overpriced and not necessarily the best quality. A croissant was $5.75 and was dry and overdone. They had nice-looking outdoor seating, but it took a lot of time to order despite having only one person in front of me. A convenient spot to stop while shopping on Madison, but maybe not a place I'd spend much time.

Amy Y.

Yelp
Had their most amazing Kouign Aman Cinnamon, which is like a cinnamon croissant-popover. It has a light and sweet texture for a morning or afternoon snack. I'm still thinking about it after having two the other day. I do realize however, that their baked goods are a little more expensive than other bakery cafes, averaging about $4-$5 per item. Nevertheless, i intend to stop by for a nice little treat once in a while.

Yelp
Brand New Coffee spot. The items are from Tuscany and coffee from Australia! Thomas is wonderful. He said they are brand new. They are open 7am until 5pm. There's very comfortable seating inside and outside. The decor is cheerful and relaxing. He keeps the place very clean between customers. The neighborhood has embraced this new addition. Customers were coming in and out and calling him by name. He said the products are from Tuscany and pastries are local. Coffee is good! I'm recommending. He does need to post the coffee prices and the hours of operation. This place is brand new!

Jane M.

Yelp
Came here for a cup of coffee. Has a blended espresso americano which adds a nice creaminess to a regular americano. I thought there was milk in there for a second! The barista is super knowledgeable and dedicated to the craft. Everyone was super friendly and although the cafe is small, the interior is cozy and welcoming and the outdoor seating is also great. Also ended up getting the aeperol spritz for happy hour which was great! Would come back.

Teresa K.

Yelp
I popped into this cafe yesterday to get out of the rain. It was cute and bright, the staff were friendly, but I feel like the latte was overpriced and tasted sour. I didn't try any of the food, but saw that several people came in to buy food items. It is very small inside, but does have a few tables outside for extra seating. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back again, but I'm glad I gave it a try.

Kenneth T.

Yelp
Always pass by but didn't go in until today because the location itself is very small and feels cramped. The setup within the store isn't very optimal which is what deterred me from going in. Overall the prices seem high, the large sandwiches are $16 and fairly small. The mini sandwiches are $8 and the size of a donut. The baked goods are also pricey. The vegan banana muffin was good but the oatmilk latte was mediocre and also pricey. I'd come back for baked goods but not coffee or sandwiches

Jason ..

Yelp
Closed...no note on door, but everything has been cleared out. Small shop and popular with locals, shame it is gone.

Alexandra L.

Yelp
A really cute, small bakery in the UES. Popped in for a quick snack since it was nearby and decided on their banana muffin. It's one of the best banana muffins I've had and I'm so glad I found this place.

Meggie N.

Yelp
It's a cute little cafe on the upper east side. My friend and I order lattes and got some pastry for breakfast. Coffee and pastries were great !

Melissa N.

Yelp
I used to love this place. Best coffee on the block! But the one barista often misunderstands my orders (perhaps a language barrier?). And when I try to get the correct order he has gotten VERY nasty!!!! He went ahead to mansplain + raise his voice at me. I Totally fine if there's a mix up.... But why be nasty???? It's 2023!!! All the other negative reviews about this guy is accurate. He made me want to cry and I felt bullied.

Pippa J.

Yelp
A charming Italian cafe tucked in the neighborhood at 69th & Madison. Come for the excellent coffee and delicious pastries but stay for the wine and charcuterie boards. The 6-8 outdoor tables are comfortable and generally well tended. The 4-5 indoor tables are cozy. Adorable interior and good service. It is sure to delight any guest seeking a little coffee, snack or wine luxury. An oat milk latte is $6 and a chocolate croissant is $5.75 so definitely paying a premium for this area. The gluten-free banana muffin was stale. The focaccia was fresh. So hit or miss as they work their way through their first year of being open.

Maryeliza A.

Yelp
What happened to Poppi??? I walked by the other day and everything was cleared out! Nothing left. So strange. I went with a group last month to enjoy sitting outside with a glass of wine. Such a fun spot! I'm very sad!!! It was a wonderful addition to the upper east side. We'll miss it!!!

Yelp
BAKED GOODS AREN'T CONSISTENTLY FRESH. I like this cute and very tiny spot. However, after many visits, I've realized that their baked goods aren't always fresh, and taste as if they are starting to become stale. Given that they are pricier than other places this makes matters worse. People are expecting fresh quality baked goods. The quality of all the croissant variations isn't the best and the owners should reconsider who they choose to buy their items from. Also, the vegan blueberry muffin is deceiving as it has an insane amount of butter (as stated by the worker) behind the counter. I ordered it one time and wouldn't ever get it again. It's not healthy and worse than a regular muffin. The quality of the muffin is poor and so is the taste. A muffin should not be super sweet/dense instead it should be light, fluffy, and airy with a hint of sweetness and preferably with fruit in it or oats and nuts. The golden milk latte was good BUT the Greek guy who works there needs to know that when you are making one to stay and it's a small..you need to add a smaller amount of turmeric powder to the steamed milk so that the customer isn't found with a big dollop of clumped up powder at the bottom of the cup. Instead, it should be well mixed in *ideally within the same *pitcher the milk is steamed.

Yelp
One of the most darling coffee shops I have ever been to. I am not a big coffee drinker but it was such a charming place I ordered an Americana. It was like jet fuel!! I could have run a marathon! One of the cutest places in NYC I have ever been to. Everyone should give it a try if they want a real coffee.

Kathleen X.

Yelp
Such a cute little Italian cafe on the upper east side. I came here for a latte and a pistachio twist on a stormy day, and left warm and satisfied. The latte is what you hope a good latte to be: creamy and slightly bitter. The pistachio twist was sweet but not sickly so, and tasted soft and fresh. I'll definitely be back next time I'm around Central Park!

Theresa L.

Yelp
Super cute spot! Didn't order much from here but they were very nice and the place looked great.

Christine O.

Yelp
Such a cute neighborhood coffee shop. Amazing coffee & pastries. The staff were super friendly. It is tiny inside so if you plan to go there to stay just keep that in mind. I would definitely go again!

Beth J.

Yelp
Such a sweet place for a coffee, pastry or just some respite! The staff are patient and kind. Didn't feel rushed even at closing time on Saturday night. Thanks Poppi!!

Joseph T.

Yelp
Cozy little coffee shop. Nice assortment of pastries. Seemed like they had a lot of regulars. I had a small latte. It was exactly what I was craving. Service was ultra quick. I was in and out within a couple minutes. Lots of tables outside to enjoy the views of Madison Avenue.

Bogdan B.

Yelp
Just an amazing spot and a true gem that was missing from this part of the Upper east side. I have been coming here since they open and I witnessed how beautiful they flourished and become a part of this neighborhood and people that live around and not only. A breath of fresh air in such a overcrowded and bit overwhelming city. A warm and friendly stuff, knowledgeable and very accommodating with all your requests. My favorite ice cappucio and Focaccia that no matter how busy i am i will find the time to make sure ill get it and enjoy it to the fullest. Qudos guys and keep up with the amazing job!

Gio P.

Yelp
Really nice spot and also serving Freddo Cappucino and Freddo Espresso made by Thomas ! Excellent choice

Bettina B.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast with a great location!! Thomas was very accommodating and provided great customer service. Will definitely recommend!

Damian G.

Yelp
Great food, customer service is amazing, such a nice spot to grab a glass of wine or a small bite to eat.

Caitlin Z.

Yelp
Best kept secret on the upper east side. Poppi is such a cute spot for coffee and pastries in the morning and a casual relaxing aperitivo late afternoon.

Angelina M.

Yelp
Not friendly customer service. Lackluster coffee and baked goods. Always packed bc no bakery in area. Room for improvement.

Bambi B.

Yelp
This place serves amazing coffee and the barista does a great job. Such a friendly place. What a wonderful find for morning cup of Joe.

Yin H.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood cafe. We've stopped here twice now. First time, just picked up pastries to go. The raspberry bombolone is delicious, the lemon cake was good too but slightly on the sweeter side. Second time we stopped, we decided to sit outside. There are a few indoor seats but pretty limited space, more tables outside. I ordered the bombolone, a ham and cheese sandwich and 2 glasses of wine (chianti and lambrusco). They kindly toasted the sandwich and brought everything out to us. Sandwich was delicious with huge chunks of cheese and some jam. Cute place to hang out over coffee, wine and pastries. A bit on the pricier side but in line with the neighborhood.

Eleanor P.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich and hot yummy coffee. Ducked in here on a rain Saturday. Perfect!

Jordan L.

Yelp
friendly service. small cups but reasonable prices. vegan blueberry muffin is delicious, and after trying many blueberry muffins this one is one of the best. moist and tasty. space is small but lots of tables outside.

Cindy H.

Yelp
This place is lovely ... perfect addition to the neighborhood... coffee and almond croissant were fantastic .... And the aesthetic is perfection

Farhad S.

Yelp
An amazing tiny coffee shop in the heart of historic Upper East Side! Check it out on your way to Central Park!

Derek M.

Yelp
Barista reminded me the Seinfeld soup nazi. This place is for the UES ladies to caffeinate before their Pilates lesions and manicures. 2 stars for the drinks to go and nice decor.

Oya W.

Yelp
Other reviews regarding customer service are correct. The man at the counter is incredibly rude. If he is so miserable at the counter maybe he'd be best served doing something else. Also, too overpriced. I'm from this area and I'm not stupid enough to pay $10 for a small lemonade and bag of chips. Find a more clever way to pay your rent.

Liz S.

Yelp
My drink was pretty good but the service is spotty. Could definitely use improvement. Waited on line a long time without acknowledgement; something like 'will be right with you' could be helpful. The woman made the drink and gentleman rang me up. I believe he charged me for a large even though I ordered the small size. No menu or prices on the wall or anywhere; they could really use a menu somewhere in customer's sight, so I had to look it up once home. So be careful how much you're being charged.

Hunt S.

Yelp
Cool place. I like the cheese rolls and the pistachio twists. The staff is nice. Great outdoor seating and relaxed yet chic atmosphere. My favorite cafe in NYC. GO!

Deonne B.

Yelp
Worst coffee and service you could find in NYC. Coffee had grounds in it and their answer was it's supposed to be like that. They offered nothing. Don't waste your money... Better coffee and better staff are elsewhere!

Jackie J.

Yelp
Phone did not eat first at this incredible establishment. My friends and I are absolutely obsessed with the food, the ambiance, and the aroma. So glad we where drawn in by the orange umbrellas outside. We came in for just a drink and stayed for 3 rounds. The service here gives a European vibe, their welcoming personalizes and recommendations made us never want to leave. This is a place you must stop at after a stroll in Central Park. Ask for Francesca, she is the most vibrant waitress I have ever had.

Kim S.

Yelp
The coffee shop is cute and that is the appeal to walk by however the service leaves much to be desired. The man who took the orders was confused to begin with. Did not ask for the size of the drinks or anything about milk or preference. We then move on the wait. For 2 drinks a 20 min+ wait is unacceptable. I would not recommend if the cafe appears busy, for even regulars had complaints that day. Finally the drinks, neither were amazing or anything special. Sad say but I could have gotten a better drink at Starbucks.

Tracy G.

Yelp
A cute little shop with excellent pastries, delicious small sandwiches, and espresso coffees. Perfect for a light breakfast, lunch or afternoon snack. Hospitable and friendly staff, too.

Zoey T.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in NYC for a while. Very low key and felt like I was in Europe right when I walked in - highly recommended!

Rum D.

Yelp
If you aren't white or dressed very fancy, save yourself some annoyance and steer clear of this little cafe. My two year old was hungry after some shopping on Madison Ave, so we stopped in for some ham and cheese croissant. What we experienced (and witnessed), was some inexcusable behavior from the male staff member. It seems to be a theme now reading the other reviews. While ordering food, I asked the female staff for a glass of water. She said it's right on the counter. After seating my (extremely well behaved) two year old, I filled a glass with water, and the male staff brusquely stated "there's a tip jar over there for the water" (even though I had just paid including tip for the food moments before). Not a minute later a white mother came in with her daughter and asked for water and the bathroom and he helped her with a smile and no extra comments. In addition, I experienced his extremely rude behavior with a delivery person who simply came to pick up an order. My advice: make your day a little brighter by not stopping at this cafe.
