Yelp
A drive-thru kiosk for boba tea and Vietnamese snacks... that's a novel concept as it's usually coffee and hot tea being dispensed from such a setup. Poppy Kitchen Boba Cafe is located at the Plaza at Rancho Bernardo across the street from Pearl Chinese Cuisine. I liked how both sides had service windows that could accept orders so it didn't matter which direction your vehicle was coming from.
The menu featured three snacks (banh mi, spring rolls, bao buns), seven milk teas, six iced teas, four coffees, and three smoothies/slushes. I wanted a set of spring rolls to go with my beverage, but they were unavailable. I settled for a Grilled Pork banh mi and an I Really Lychee You iced tea with brown sugar boba. The topping was free for a check-in.
The drink came with a spear of three lychees immersed in jasmine green tea. The flavor was okay, but the tea profile wasn't very strong. On the other hand, the banh mi sandwich exceeded my expectations in terms of size and quality for $6. It was pork slices in a baguette sandwich with pork pâté, kewpie, mayo, cilantro, jalapeño, Maggi, pickled carrots, and daikon. Overall, I gave my drive-thru experience a 3.5 star rating.
