"Poppy’s has been the obvious choice for anyone who knows Charlotte like the back of their hand. It can and should also be the obvious choice for anyone and everyone with an undying craving for bagels on a Sunday. There’s nothing flashy here; there’s just bagel bins galore, a classic deli case, and employees calling out orders. Order at the counter, pour your coffee, take a seat, and wait your turn." - Kayleigh Ruller, Nikki Miller-Ka

I agree with everyone who has said that these are the best bagels in Charlotte. As a former New Yorker myself, I know a good bagel. While the interesting flavors they offer at Panera and those other chains are... interesting... the stuff they have here at Poppy's is the real deal. Everything, Sesame, Pumpernickel, all the classic flavored bagels and they're all large and fresh and fluffy with the great chewy and crunchy bagel texture that they are supposed to have. Tip: spend an extra buck and get the salmon spread on your toasted bagel. It's probably not the sort of place where you sit around all day, like a Starbucks or Panera, but it's nice for a quiet coffee (good coffee, by the way!) and a friendly meet with your buddies. In the nicer weather, sit outside in the sun.

Good little restaurant. Workers are very friendly and fast. Bagels were a little hard even after toasting

Google
The best place for bagels around Charlotte. Every time I’m in town I make a visit! Great breakfast sandwiches, a wide variety of lunch sandwiches, and a full-blown deli or salads and baked goods! Call in your order to avoid the lines (cause everyone knows how great this place is!)

First time at Poppy's and wow! This place is great. The food delicious! I never had such a delicious bagel in life. Made fresh and perfect. The staff was doing great making sure people were practicing social distancing by having only a few enter at a time. All the staff were wearing mask and doing their best to follow safety precautions. This place is crazy busy but well worth the wait! Michelle was sweet and greeted me. Everyone in the front provided great customer service! Since it was my first time the whole staff was kind and welcomed me hello. Sue made my bagel sandwich and boy was it amazing! Don't miss out on those holiday cookies either. My daughter loved them. I will be back and make sure to let everyone know about this gem!

We did a taste test with 4 people - 2 adults,.2 children. In this blind taste test, we compared a traditional lox bagel on an everything bagel from two Charlotte area bagel shops -- Manhattan Bagel (Arboretum) and Poppy's Bagels (Providence Rd). See pic below, left side is Poppy's Bagel sample and right side is the one from Manhattan. Results? Every single person gave a thumbs up to the Poppy's Bagel in the blind taste test. 4 to 0. The Poppy's Bagel won on overall texture and taste quality. The Poppy's Bagel tomato was firm and tasty, while the Manhattan Bagel tomato wasn't fresh and two of the taster's noted a a slimy texture to the Manhattan Bagel. Poppy's Bagel lox was vibrant salmon color and the Manhattan Bagel lox was a dull pink. The everything bagel itself from Poppy's Bagels was the clear winner with exquisite taste and texture -- the whole motivation to get up on a crisp fall morning and drive over to purchase some freshly baked bagels for the family. Nice to have a NYC quality bagel in Charlotte. Thanks Poppy's.

Google
Our new Saturday and Sunday lunch restaurant.. we had the chicken soup and chicken salad sandwiches. Both were very good and hit the spot from Friday night . Their menu is very large and looks very good. we will be back try so much more and add to the post .

Google
My go-to spot for bagels in Charlotte and there's always a decent crowd so I know I'm not the only one. I usually pick up one of their goody bags and steam a bagel every morning. The bagels are incredible.

Google
I first went on a weekend which felt very chaotic, it was hard to figure out the layout, where I order, when and where do I pay. I went at opening and it felt better just cause there were less moving parts. That being said best bagel I have had in Charlotte. Light and airy, crusty exterior. The construction of my lox with works was phenomenal. Nice thin red onion, balance between tomato and salmon. No spillage. Also had a plain with the strawberry cream cheese. I like it had pieces.

Susan L.

Yelp
Always loved conjng to Poppy's. They have wonderful bagels, and I enjoy trying out their many different flavors of cream cheese. On my last visit, I tried an everything bagel with strawberry cream cheese...much better than I expected! I will be coming back to Poppys.

Yelp
I liked Poppy's, there were just a couple of things that deducted stars for me. It was our first time here. We walked in and the line was kind of chaotic up around the food case. Not knowing which counter we order from, we went to stand right around the drink case and cash registers thinking that was where the line started. We stood there for several minutes until we figured out that was actually the END of the line. I know employees saw us standing there because we made eye contact a few times. I wish they would have let us know the line formed at the opposite end of the room. It was a stressful ordering experience to say the least. We both ordered bagels and water and after we paid, we went to find a seat. I noticed a soda machine in the corner and I remembered, hey we didn't get our water cups. So my husband went back to the counter and asked for water cups, and the employee pointed and rudely said "they're over there". I ordered a California egg sandwich with bacon and it was halfway through my sandwich that I realized there was actually no bacon on the sandwich. I know we paid for bacon to be added. At that point, I was ready to get out of there and I didn't even bother asking for the bacon. The cheese on my bagel was hard and had not melted at all which tells me the egg and/or the bagel wasn't very warm. The bagels were good but my order was wrong and the employees were rude. I think the ultimate fall of our visit was the lack of friendly customer service. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Customer service can make or break a dining experience. I would try Poppy's again, hoping for a better experience next time.

Yelp
Ordered from home on clover Everything bagel with sausage and egg and cheese. Sandwich cold bagel was good. Also had chicken soup which had absolutely no flavor. No broth no flavor at all to the soup. Waste of money.

Zhana E.

Yelp
As an ex-NY'er I LOVE this place. This is about as close as you get to a NYC bagel and I miss those dearly. I love the order online function, I can get pretty specific and it is made exactly how I ordered it. Both locations are fine but this particular location I believe has better online options.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Never again. As soon as we walked in, it was chaos. The place was so dirty. Everything was piled up and there were tons of employees working but no one wanted to help us. The bagels were hard and gross. When I asked for our water cups the guy at the counter said, "Huh" and just looked at me. We sat outside and all the tables were nasty. Such a shame because this place used to be so good. I want to find a local non chain bagel place to go to.

Ana R.

Yelp
My hubby is from NY so he loves a good bagel shop. We went on a Saturday morning and they were super busy yesterday friendly and fast. If you don't want to wait in line or deal with the crowd you can order ahead. They have all types of bagels, salads, sandwiches and other items for a nice cafe vibe. There's little seating inside and a pet friendly covered patio outside. I didn't get pics but I had a BLT on a honey wheat bagel with walnut cream cheese and onion (wish I had gotten 2!). I'll definitely be back when I'm in need of a quick bite.

Pablo S.

Yelp
Poppy's bagels are our family's favorite breakfast treat! We don't really explore the menu as we get everything bagels and veggie cream cheese with an occasional macaron for our 4 & 6 year old daughters but I have no doubt that you can't go wrong with their other offerings!

April B.

Yelp
Poppy's is my go to for fresh bagels and for good reason. The bagels are made fresh daily, tasty and versatile. I am looking to explore more of their menu and just my luck I won a giveaway with CLTDESSERTS and POPPYS so I can indulge even more! On Saturday I took down another one of their stellar bagel sandwiches: Eggs Benedict Bagel Sandwich - bagel of choice (Honey Wheat - which is my fave for anything savory), 2 eggs, Canadian bacon, and Hollandaise sauce - I ordered this sandwich on purpose because I LOVE Hollandaise sauce and had a craving for it. This sandwich calmed the craving as it over delivered. I am writing it up as savory, crisp, and intelligent. Note: Indoor and outdoor dining available Other Recommendations Bagel Sandwiches: Egg, Meat, and Cheese Bagel, Poppy's California Egg Sandwich Bagel Flavors: Blueberry, Cinnamon Raisin, Everything, Honey Wheat, Plain Cream Cheese Flavor (s): Scallion Sides: Poppy's Home Fries

Yelp
Maybe you can consider me a bagel snob? These were bagel shaped dough made to resemble bagels. Had an everything bagel they should also call barely anything bagel. Service was horrible too. Not sure if the cashier was new or just unwilling to be helpful. The coffee was horrendous. Stopped and got coffee at Circle K after. The only thing good there was the rugelach. I seriously doubt they make them in house but I could be wrong. You'd be better off getting bagels at a grocery store than this place. I think this is my first negative review in 10 years

Tj J.

Yelp
Flavor if the bagels, just was so blah! The service was horrible, young lady who took my order - gave me wrong sandwich, I had already left. I still can't believe she was allowed to wear this dingy Hoody that was pulled up and wrapped around her head. There was some guy who came off as the lead or the manager walked in from Starbucks for drinks his matter fact attitude that's what it was he was more focused on their drinks from Starbucks and the customers in the store. I don't know if this is a independent franchise or corporate store , but somebody needs to step in. I was leaving, this lady and I both were chatting how horrible it was there. I've had better bagels and service from the grocery store.

Yelp
Just landed in Charlotte for my second time and remember having a great bagel my first time in this city but wasn't sure where. Came across Poppy's because of Yelp and started eating my bagel in the car because of such a long morning of travel. I like to keep it classy (and I'm from NY) so I just ordered an everything bagel toasted with butter and cream cheese. And a cannoli. Just finished the first half of the bagel and HOLY SHOOT CUZ. This place is brilliant. You can tell they sell out early and there's a consistent line in and out of this place so... you know you're in the right place when you've come to Poppy's. When it's a long line, how can you go wrong?! IT IS WORTH THE WAIT. I am so thankful for the hard workers here making sure everyone is well fed. I came at about noon and was in and out of here in a timely manner. And it's friday. Happy Aloha Friday, y'all! Let's get it.

Ender Y.

Yelp
Poppy's Bagels is a solid four stars! I got their sesame bagel w/ plain cream cheese AND their blueberry bagel w/ plain cream cheese. Without a doubt, the sesame bagel was much yummier than the blueberry bagel. The sesame bagel tasted delicious and had a perfect chewy consistency. They were pretty darn fantastic. The blueberry bagel, on the other hand, was lacking blueberry flavor, had zero sweetness, and was oddly salty? Uh oh. But even if I were rating only the sesame bagel, I would still give Poppy's four stars. As someone who LOVES bagels, I've had a ton. And Poppy's is ever so slightly missing sparkle. But I'll be back because they do hit the spot when you're craving a bagel! Just note, a bagel w/ plain cream cheese costs $4.19. That's not exactly cheap, nor expensive! Oh no! I almost forgot to mention that the workers here are so sweet. They know so many of their customers by name and know their customer's go-to orders. That's super cute!

Natalie C.

Yelp
Filthy establishment. Owner blatantly does not give a shit that there is bird shit covering the entire patio and that the store is dirty. Staff looks miserable and food has gone downhill in the past few years. Onto the next.

Ashley E.

Yelp
This is one of my go to delis for my breakfast fix on the weekend (and every once in a while when I splurge during the weekday)! Although I typically come for breakfast they have lunch sandwiches and items too. A whole case of fresh salads and sides (made daily) to pair your sandwich with or select on its own! Since covid came around they have setup a texting system for carry out. It's very efficient. You text your order and they send a confirmation saying that your order will be ready in about 15 minutes. They will call if they are out of something and need a substitution so I will typically include those in my text. For instance, this was my last text order: "Carry out order for Ashley. Pork roll (Taylor ham), egg and cheese (american) on an everything OR salt bagel" - Got confirmation it would be ready in 15 mins, showed up in 10 and it was there hot and ready for me! Talk about service! The staff is super friendly and they are fairly quick, but again would recommend texting yourself order in advance ESPECIALLY on the weekend when it can be a little busier.

Heidi M.

Yelp
Food is great; don't forget the multiple versions of chicken salad to-go! It's worth it. The service is so-so... servers seem unhappy and grumpy. Lines are common on the wknd. Love the covered patio as I am immunocompromised, but those seats are really tough to come by.

Dionne S.

Yelp
A fresh bagel with an egg is the best and Poppy's nails it. The loxs and cream cheese is a must have as well. Great spot if you want a fresh bagel and support local business.

Jacob R.

Yelp
Great service and delicious breakfast! Didn't take long to get a fresh made bagel sandwich either! Highly recommend!

Doug H.

Yelp
Pretty good authentic bagel. Also has a disappointing bagel sandwich - didn't know sausage could be sliced paper thin and glad I asked for extra cheese because I can't imagine how little the regular slice would be. Ordered online and they could not find order. Place is very small inside. Good not great

John J.

Yelp
This place has gone straight downhill. They can't seem to get orders right any longer. There's never any coffee in the pots. The online ordering times are inaccurate. Food is cold because they tell you it's going to be 45 minutes and it's always ready much sooner. The technology is there. They just refuse to implement it.

Kevin R.

Yelp
Been a customer for 10+ years and I know Bagels. These WERE great - the best. As of Dec 2023, my family KNOWS the recipe changed. Flavorless and now a supermarket texture. Big mistake and sad.

Little G.

Yelp
Very thankful for this place. Love their Asiago bagels especially (note that this bagel is NEVER listed as an option when ordering through delivery apps). Sausage egg & cheese on Asiago is perfect with some hot sauce. Love the scallion cream cheese. Hazelnut coffee - don't know the supplier but it's really good.

Brian R.

Yelp
Prices are completely outrageous. I laughed out loud at the lox bagel price. It's not all inflation. You can get bagel sandwiches in New York for substantially cheaper than this and higher quality. They are taking advantage of people who don't know any better. Was a regular. No more.

Steven M.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to Poppy's, but it isn't what it used to be. Same complaints as others; food not good, the place has never been that clean but it has gotten worse, the employees don't care and give terrible service, they close at 3 but start shutting down at 1:30. I'm done.

Rachel M.

Yelp
I hate to put this out there.... I am a big fan of buying local. I had heard rave reviews about Poppy's and I had to try it. The aroma walking up to the place was awesome. I was prepared to stand in a line. There is a nice variety of bagels, toppings and even extra items, like muffins, cookies, etc. There was no line and the server was ready to take my order. The service was friendly. The order was correct. But honestly, I was not impressed with the bagel. It did not taste fresh made. It was ok, but not worth a 15 minute drive. I will not drive the 15 min to the shop again, like I did today.

KeriAnne L.

Yelp
Saturday morning I woke up with a hankering for a bagel. Not just any bagel with a slab of cream cheese, - no, I wanted something with egg and meat. So, my husband and I decided to order breakfast via UberEats. We chose Poppy's Bagels. It was our first time. My husband ordered a wrap while I, I ordered a magnificent, delicious, mouthwatering thing they call an Eggs Benedict Bagel. I waited with patience and excitement and hunger for the masterpiece to arrive. And then it came. I opened the bag, pulled out the warm, foil-wrapped bundle, and tenderly began to unwrap it to reveal... a bagel sandwich. I was confused. It was an everything bagel like I ordered, but instead of Eggs Benedict it was egg, cheese, and deli meat ham. It was a counterfeit, a knockoff Gucci bag, a wolf in sheep's clothing. The dream was shattered. My husband received the wrap he ordered. "It's okay. I expected more of... I don't know. It was kinda bland." After the initial shock, disappointment, and grief, I settled and ate what they sent me. It was decent, but it wasn't an Eggs Benedict Bagel. You done messed up A-A-Ron. 2 Stars for getting half of the order correct, and it only being half as tasty as expected.

Ed B.

Yelp
Normally I would give poppy's five stars. I love their bagels and Matzo Ball soup. The week before Christmas I was taking my 99 year father inlaw lunch. So I stopped by Poppy's and ordered pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup. Took a few minutes with the lunch rush so I stood by the coffee machines waiting. I saw one of the managers put the pastrami in the microwave! I did not think that much of it.... Got to my father in laws and got us set up for lunch... The pastrami was chewy, chewy chewy!!!! I was pretty upset, he looks forward to our lunches and this one was a disappointment ! I don't expect Katz's Deli but I do expect a curtain level of quality from such a good Deli. I will never order pastrami here again.

Heather V.

Yelp
To be quite honest, I was not overly impressed. It's a small location, with the staff not being super friendly. The bagel I got with the lox smear was pretty delish, but this wasn't somewhere I would drive 30 minutes to go to again.

Lesley G.

Yelp
Best bagels in Charlotte! Love their breakfast potatoes...my go to is a Sesame bagel toasted with butter with a fried egg and ham on it. Then get a side of the breakfast potatoes put them on the sandwich with some SPK and you are good!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Not sure what's happened to this store but it's definitely going in the wrong direction.. The variety of pastries and sandwiches have definitely dwindled, and fountain machine continues to be out of order. The most frustrating part was ordering a bagel with lox cream cheese and being charged $12.00 after being told the prices just went up on flour and water.. Sorry to say I won't be back.

Vanessajay J.

Yelp
This place was terrible !! Burnt toast the eggs weren't seasoned the bacon was not crispy as requested, there's no kind of order as far as the line goes , it was a long line but people were everywhere . I would not recommend this place .

Jess N.

Yelp
I used to love going to poppy's every weekend, but for the past few months, the service and quality has gone down tremendously. The person taking my order was rude to me for no reason and they took over 30 minutes to START on my order. They only started on my order after asking about it. People that ordered after me were getting their orders before me. Once I received my order, the sandwich was slopingly placed together with no care. I have never been treated like this before. I will not be coming back unless something changes. So disappointed!

Kalie D.

Yelp
Staff was rude. The sign on the door, their website, and their google hours say it's open until 3:00. But they shut the whole place down at 2:30 with the chairs up and grill off. When you walk in they just look at you and want you to leave. If they want to be closed at 2:30, they should update their hours. The owner is losing money with these unfriendly employees.

Demetria J.

Yelp
The food is worth the wait, but be prepared to stand in line. They move the line along pretty well, and you can view the menu while you stand in line. I ordered the Salmon Benedict sandwich on a croissant with Home Fries. It was soooo delicious! I also that they had some great side dishes like coleslaw and pasta salad. Check them out near the Providence Road area.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I ordered an Asiago bagel with lox/smoked salmon spread. It was alright. I should have had the bagel toasted. The lox cream cheese spread wasn't on the strong side, too light for my taste. If you like smoked salmon, get "lox and all the fixings" instead because the spread won't satisfy your craving ;) I also think their lox options are too pricey. I don't think I will be back.

Saifra Z.

Yelp
Solid bagel. It's not quiiiite a NY bagel but I'd say damn close! I also tried the black and white cookie which was also good. The best was the coffee- hazelnut and French vanilla. I mean, what bodega in NY doesn't have those flavors. Service was friendly and the line moved really quickly. If you are missing NY, definitely stop in here.

Charlotte R.

Yelp
I love Poppy's bagels but the prices have just become too much. I spent $17 on a bagel sandwich and drink today. Come on. Still my favorite bagels but special occasions only now.

Stefanny W.

Yelp
I love this place. I am excited that they are opening a second location in the Southend area. My experience was great, I order the weekday special breakfast which consists of a toasted sesame bagel, veggie cream cheese, egg whites, bacon and a small cup for coffee. Their coffee station has a great variety flavors hazelnut, french vanilla, dark roast, regular, decaf, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea. My total was $7.03. I did notice that they are redoing their menu and prices. I hope it doesn't increase by too much.

Dan C.

Yelp
Best bagels in Charlotte hands down. One of the go-tos when I come from out of town. I'm always a hit with the family here when I go make an early bagel run. Everyone there is really nice. Picture of my favorite: BEC on everything bagel dmo out

Amber M.

Yelp
This is my favorite quick breakfast place. I text my order in and grab it on my way to work. You order at the counter then pay at the register. They are fairly quick for such a busy place. Haven't had anything I don't like yet. My go to is an asiago bagel with jalapeno cream cheese or egg white wrap "C". The wrap is typically too hot to eat right away but that's fine because by the time I get to my office it's just perfect.

Deborah W.

Yelp
Went for breakfast with my mom, and it was pretty good. The bagels had a toasty outside with a very chewy inside. I'm not sure that I liked how much effort it took to chew. I got a plain bagel with salmon and capers, while my mom opted for the cinnamon sugar bagel. She said she liked Panera's better. I tried hers, and I'd agree. It was over $14 for 2 bagels and 1 coffee, so it's not an everyday kind of place. It was very crowded, and some people had to stand around waiting for tables. The bathroom was clean. Overall, it's good if you're craving smoked salmon or like chewy bagels.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Poppy's has been my go to bagel place for years. However, in the past 3 months my order has been significantly wrong 4 times. If you try to contact them, the mailbox is full. So disappointed, especially when you order a $16 lox works bagel and get just a bagel and cream cheese. Word to the wise, check all orders before you leave the store.

Rachel F.

Yelp
Boo. I liked this place when we moved here--now it's gone downhill in a big way. The prices are insane, even with inflation and supply chain issues. Over $9 for a bagel with lox-speckled cream cheese. You want lox and cream cheese? That'll be $17! Even a single bagel is twice the price of other places, and not worth it. The place doesn't always seem that clean, lots of crumbs all over the place, and little seating. Cant wait to try other places.

Denae F.

Yelp
So disappointed. I used to live stopping in here for a quick breakfast sandwich. My last few visits have been progressively worse. No one wants to take your order, the employees aren't trained on how to ring things up. They've completely forgot about my order twice. Some days my sandwich is $9, others it's $13 for the same order. The ultimate offense, not that microwaved pastrami is much better, today I was handed a cold bagel with cold pastrami. Do better! Train your staff, your customers are paying a premium and will only tolerate this level of mediocrity for so long.

Jeannette A.

Yelp
If you love bagels come and check out this place! Bagels are fresh and flavorful. I always get an everything bagel with cream cheese and lux salmon. It gets really busy so you might have to wait in line, but they do a good job of moving quick. Make sure to ask for your bagel toasted; it makes a huge difference. If you are in the mood for a quick breakfast place definitely check them out. It won't disappoint you!

Christy C.

Yelp
Walking in the line was wrapped around the restaurant. The atmosphere reminds me of a New York bagel shop and actually moved pretty fast. We had our bagels about 20 minutes later. I got the bacon egg and cream cheese everything bagel. It was delicious and filling. Poppy's has Monday-Friday B.E.C. With coffee for less than $6. There are also low fat options. Next time I will probably do call ahead to avoid the line.

Morgan G.

Yelp
We were visiting from Atlanta and ran to this cute little bagel shop for breakfast. It was really bustling for 8:00 am on a Saturday, but in a good way. The staff was delightful and so cheery! The bagels were generously smeared with cream cheese and the yogurt parfait was excellent (the yogurt tasted homemade and was thick and creamy but not too sweet).

J R.

Yelp
So sad to write this review because this was our weekly Sunday spot. The flavor is only okay so we would come for the convenience and friendly neighborhood service. Now that the service has gone down tremendously it's really hard to swallow the food and ridiculous prices. To the owner...find happier people to serve your customers or train your current staff not to be total dicks.

Aimee C.

Yelp
A complete wonderful surprise, what a GEM!!! It's just as good as Bagel Bin, maybe better!!! ·Egg bagel toasted with butter- yummy!! ·Egg bagel toasted with Lox- my friend loved it!!! ·Land o lakes milk- Really rich and delicious!!!

Wendy F.

Yelp
In one word... rude! I went to this location at Monday at 6:30am because the hours on Yelp showed they opened at 6am. The door was open and bagel filled the case but no employees around. About 4 minutes into waiting three employees suddenly came to the counter. I proceeded to order but all three employees barked out that they didn't open until 7am. Wow, that could have been handled a lot better, you bagels are not that good!

Eva J.

Yelp
Usually I love this bagel store. I live 15 min from this store and always go out of my way to go. I went today and spent over 40 dollars to get home and all the bagels were burnt. How do you burn 5 bagels.
