It’s not New York City, but D.C. has some good bagel spots- Bagels, Etc, Pearl’s Bagels, and Call Your Mother. Because of that, I walked into Pop’s Bakery skeptical and walked out a fan.
First of all, the smell attracts you inside to a space where you can watch them make their bagels. There’s a menu above the counter with just four bagel options (plain, everything, poppy, and sesame) but lots of schmears from sweet to savory. My seven-year-old daughter got a plain bagel with plain cream cheese. I got the sesame with brown sugar cinnamon sour cream. The texture of both bagels was spot on-chewy and tasty. The schmears were excellent. I get why, but they put lots of schmear on the bagel. My daughter removed about half of it.
They also sell coffee, drinks, chips, etc.
Wait time was around 15 minutes on a busy Saturday around noon.
