An Egg-Obsessed Indian Street Food Joint Finally Touches Down in D.C. — And More July Openings | Eater DC

"I note that the team behind Poppy’s Stuffed Bagels has opened Pop’s Bagels in Eckington, giving away free bagels to customers until 2:30 p.m. on opening day (toppings and schmear are paid separately). Nearly decade-old sibling Pops Bakery continues to supply bread, bagels, and buns to area restaurants, and this newest brand focuses on bagel sandwiches with latke balls coming soon, operating daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. next to Union Kitchen." - Emily Venezky

Not only is this bagel spot amazing, but the locations couldn’t be better- right across from the rock climbing gym! In currently going on four sundays in a row of bagel sandwiches and don’t know if I’ll ever stop. The bagels themselves are spectacular but the toppings make it all the better. Whether you’re just looking for a bagel & schmear or a full on loaded sandwich, this is the spot for you.

Met the owner at concert and as an out-of-towner I had to come find out how good the bagels were. They did not disappoint. I got a caprese on an everything bagel. It was delicious!

We have lived in the building right next to Pops bagels for a while now and we love them as a nice easy breakfast option. The staff are always friendly and nice and I rarely have to wait long to get my breakfast. My only complaint is that there is a very limited selection of bagel flavors, and unfortunately, in recent months that everything bagel has come with far too much salt on it, making it inedible at times. This would be a three star review however the staff are always friendly so I had to give four.

Google
The breakfast bagel was awesome. The turkey and the bagel with a schmear were delicious. Huge sandwiches that were worth the price. Will definitely be ordering from them again.

Google
I have tried so hard to like this place because everyone around me seems to love it. Each time I get a bagel, it's inedible. They don't toast it long enough (because it's definitely not a fresh bagel I'm getting), and the service is mediocre at best. I've even gone with a friend two separate times to pick up their to-go order, and both times, after waiting 20 minutes to go pick it up, it's still not ready, and they have to wait additional time. Eckington is a food desert, and I so badly want to like Pop's, but it's just not doing it for me.

It’s not New York City, but D.C. has some good bagel spots- Bagels, Etc, Pearl’s Bagels, and Call Your Mother. Because of that, I walked into Pop’s Bakery skeptical and walked out a fan. First of all, the smell attracts you inside to a space where you can watch them make their bagels. There’s a menu above the counter with just four bagel options (plain, everything, poppy, and sesame) but lots of schmears from sweet to savory. My seven-year-old daughter got a plain bagel with plain cream cheese. I got the sesame with brown sugar cinnamon sour cream. The texture of both bagels was spot on-chewy and tasty. The schmears were excellent. I get why, but they put lots of schmear on the bagel. My daughter removed about half of it. They also sell coffee, drinks, chips, etc. Wait time was around 15 minutes on a busy Saturday around noon.

Google
Fantastic bagel one of the best bagels in DC! And really nice people

Google
Super rude and unfriendly. The bagels and cream cheese are exceptional, but I don’t recommend going due to the overt meanness of the staff. They’re really leaning into the “New York rude” atmosphere and I find it completely off putting.

Yelp
I've been walking by here for a while, and the smells coming from the bakery always smell so good. The bagels are made fresh and it definitely shows. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! The bagel was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It he bacon could've been a tad crispier but despite that it was a perfect sandwich!

Yelp
These bagels are really unique. The bottoms have a croissant-y texture to them. I wish they had more than 4 options and that they had vegan cream cheese (Pop's, if you're reading this, make your own with tofu or do Tofutti or Kite Hill! Vertage that CYM carries kind of sucks, don't do that). Service is a bit slow (chalking that up to them being new).

Yelp
We came in today and were excited to try out Pop's and boy did it deliver. The storefront feels a bit underdone, but it's a nice industrial look and the staff were friendly. Service was slightly slow, but they were packed, which is always good for a new spot. Bagels were delicious! When we finished our meals, we wanted more. We certainly will be back! Welcome to the neighborhood, Pop's!

Yelp
I would like to start this review by saying that this is one of the most delicious bagels I have ever had. Crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside: it was just perfection!! There was a bit of a line when we got to Pop's, but it went quickly. We waited about 10 minutes after ordering for our food. There isn't really inside seating, but there are some tables outside. The build your own sandwiches are about $10, which is my personal recommendation as opposed to the preset menu options. You can add sauce and a variety of vegetables on for no additional cost, resulting in a unique bagel you can't get anywhere else in DC! The toppings were fresh and complemented the fluffy egg well (I got pesto and roasted red peppers). They were out of bacon, which I would love to try. For me, the sausage was a little lackluster (thin and not very flavorful), but the deliciousness of the rest of the bagel more than made up for it. I am sure to become a Pop's regular, and can't recommend this place enough!!

Yelp
Promising options but our bagels were flavorless and falling apart. Super disappointed, wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
Great bagels! Pops is also a leading baker for brioche rolls (used especially by restaurants for burgers) and the bagels come across brioche-like. Not your typical NY style but these bagels are delicious on their own.

Riley J.

Yelp
These are honestly the best bagels I've ever had. They're fluffier than a standard bagel and sooooo delicious. It's a bit dangerous that this place is so close to my house.
