Pop’s Pizza - Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"In the East Village, Pop’s Pizza is a neighborhood slice shop. Expect classic pies and slices, with a few square options, and garlic knots. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Pop's Pizza is a pizzeria serving up a menu of slices and pies on Avenue B. super small space -- clean modern decor that has that casual classiness. there's very little seating, but I'd say it's more of a grab-n-go place since there is a steady stream of hungry locals, during the day and night. been here quite a few times to grab a slice and the quality of the pizza is very good. it's evident that a lot of thought and time goes into the pizza at Pop's and it shows in each bite. as a pizza purist (mostly plain slices and hardly anything else), the plain cheese slice hits the spot each time because the slice has a mix of satisfying flavors coming from the crust, sauce, and cheese. the crust is a thin one -- with enough firmness to make each bite firm with a chew...but also light and airy enough that you don't feel weighed down by a slice or two. the sauce is flavorful layers of tomato and garlic & herbs that you can actual taste without it being soupy...it's a great balanced sauce. the mozzarella cheese is a thin sheet of melty-ness. and add the finishing of fresh basil, grated Parmesan, and olive oil drizzle to lift an already enjoyable pizza slice's taste, scent, and texture to new heights. all that said, the pizza is very satisfying and you can't go wrong with this classic pizza slice served up hot. as a test i got a slice without the finishers of basil, grated cheese, and olive oil, it's a mighty fine slice, BUT always get them, regardless, the staff + the owner operator are friendly. never got to chat with them about the pizza-making, but hopefully at some point i will when i have a minute. anyway, this another welcome addition to Avenue B and already has established as a legit slice spot.

Google
Classic NYC slice shop with a friendly, no-frills atmosphere. The pizza was super fresh, with that perfect thin crust and just the right amount of cheese and sauce. You can really taste the quality. Great spot to grab a quick bite in the East Village.

Google
Ordered a Nonna Gina, spicy veg and burrata, they gave me a mushroom on the house! The mushroom was my favorite and my partner loved the spicy veg. I don’t think you can go wrong with any choice here, crust has a nice crisp/crunch and they use quality ingredients. Awesome people and good vibes. Definitely coming back to try the garlic knots!

I’d been meaning to try Pop’s Pizza for weeks. I live just two avenues west, and from the moment I walked in, I knew it was worth the wait. The aroma hits you like a warm embrace—homemade red sauce, oregano, extra virgin olive oil—it’s intoxicating. Their slice selection is both creative and balanced, with something for every mood. Here are a few highlights: • Spicy Veg – cherry tomatoes, jalapeños, caramelized onions, arugula, balsamic glaze, EVOO • Mushroom – fresh mushrooms, ricotta, caramelized onions, arugula, EVOO • Piccante – beef pepperoni, pepper relish, ricotta, hot honey • Burrata – marinara, burrata, basil, hot honey, EVOO, parm My favorite? The burrata square slice. The crust has that perfect crunch—edge to edge—and the texture stays consistent to the last bite. The imported ingredients “pop”, from the creamy burrata to the hint of basil and honey, and the aromatics while you’re eating make it a full sensory experience. I would happily bathe in their tomato sauce. The portions are generous too, but there’s zero compromise on their high quality given the larger size. Pricing is more than fair considering the care and ingredients that go into each slice. The staff are dialed in, and Sal—the owner—is clearly an artisan. You can see the pride and precision on their faces as they prep every order. It’s rare to find that kind of focus at a newer slice shop. Pop’s has the makings of a classic. Easily my favorite new slice in the city—and probably my next meal. EDIT: it was my next meal lol.

If I’m being honest I stumbled upon this spot while walking around the east village. They lured me in cause they were brand new and I’m all about supporting mom n pop and the new the guy on the block. I’m literally in Italy right now and still thinking about that pepperoni with the ricotta fresh basil and hot honey drizzle how ya doin. It was so good that my mouth is still watering whiling being in Italy on vacation. Bottom line is great slice, great service and great experience!

Google
Outstanding dough, delicious ingredients, and attention to detail make great slices. The bianca is peppery, salty, and comes topped with arugula and Pop’s signature ricotta cream. The pepperoni special has hot honey as well as arugula and ricotta. My favorite is the mushroom, with small, flavorful pieces of mushroom as well as onion and garlic on a white slice. For dining in, the shop has a single two-top inside, as well as a counter with three stools.

Google
I’m so happy that they opened up a pizza spot right here. The pizza taste so amazing the basil, the cheese the dough. I really enjoy this. It could be for lunch. It could be for dinner late night. They are very nice if you guys haven’t tried it yet you guys have to go ASAP

Google
Pretty solid slice. I got the plain slice as a litmus test. I did hope that it would be more crispy, only got a crunch at the first bite at the tip. Flavor wise though, very very interesting because it has this caramelized flavor that I actually really enjoyed, I don’t think Ive had that in a pizza before. Awesome people working there giving great recs on what to get!

Yelp
BEST PIZZA IN NYC. Go there and prove me wrong. The owner is there everyday making it happen. If you complain about the price you don't know the difference between quality pizza and the rest.

Yelp
not gonna lie, i only walked in because the pizza smelt so good, and you could smell it from the end of the block. i walk in, and im greeted by a contagious smile! i got a mushroom slice, and holy shit i couldn't believe how good it tasted. each bite tasted like heaven! it is the best slice of pizza i've ever eaten. truly a hidden gem of nyc. thank you again mike and marty!

Yelp
Had a few of deez guys' slices. Adam and company give a proper care about their late night slices. It's evident in the flavor, ingredients and timing of service. Open late on a Monday is vital for this hood. No flop. Straight crisp through and through. Go for a few. I'm a one slice guy these days because carbs. Fuckin carbs. But some are worth it.

Yelp
The pepperoni piccante is probably one of the best slices in the city. Don't be discouraged by the plain appearance behind the counter, they dress it up with ricotta, hot honey and some basil after it comes out the oven. Unparalleled crust. As an aside- while eating the pizza outside on a bench, several people walked by to ask if it was good.

Yelp
I feel like ever so often I give out five stars to a restaurant that months or years later I'd think otherwise . Based off my taste buds evolving and appreciating complexity and finesse , this spot has to now be my gold standard for pizza. An absolutely flawless crust , chew and sauce and flavor! This is perfection ! For eg , I previously rated another pizza spot nearby "Pizza loves Sauce" a 5 . I'd adjust that 5 to a 4 because this spot is just on a higher level . Try the beef pepperoni or burrata slices from Pops and be the judge . As for the service , one day I inquired about a slice and the manager or owner I presume took it upon himself when I wasn't looking to slip it in my to go box . So service is amazing as well. But as for strictly the pizza , I reiterate , this is perfection!

Yelp
The worst pizza I've had in all of Manhattan. The slices were super small and super thin--normally that's fine if the flavor is good, but it wasn't. The square Sicilian was basically a thick block of bread with cheese pasted on top. I don't recommend this place at all. If you're looking for good pizza, check out Barada Pizza on the Lower East Side or Vito's Pizza near Midtown

Yelp
Came in right when they opened so the pizza was so fresh and tasty! The staff was very welcoming and nice. Small place but there is seating inside.

Yelp
this is lovely tasty pizza repeatedly . the locals seem to gather and discuss. it's unlike the other numerous pizza shops in the neighborhood. it's not clone pizza. it be tasty and delectable. i will continue to enjoy this place.

Yelp
The pizza is so good here I truly wanted to gatekeep this spot. I'm not sure when it opened but I had a recommendation to try this new food spot that opened on Ave B. I came for a quick bite with no line and caught my mouth watering at the mushroom, caramelized onion pizza with ricotta and arugula. This was such a delicious slice I was so excited. Y'all it was so good I came back again at night. That time I had the burrata slice which also had hot honey drizzled over it. YUM. The cheese pizza slice was OK so I think they really stand out more for their unique flavors. BONUS is that they're open late night. They have a lot of interesting flavors I want to check out so I'll definitely be back for more. I didn't get to meet Pop, but Sally (spelling?) was super nice!

Yelp
Delicious fresh new and old style pizza in a nice calm upcoming neighborhood and a cool dive bar across the street to burn off all the calories I consumed from the pizza lol. Love the service in there, they treated me as if they always known me. Will go again the next time I'm in Manhattan! I'm not really fkn with the hot honey,I'm from Philly and that's a NY thing. Their homemade sauce is good enough for me.

Susanne M.

Yelp
People seem to really like this place, but I miss the old pizza shop that was here. They used to have a vegan pizza I really liked. PLEASE POPS MAKE A VEGAN SLICE. peace & love, a hungry vegan neighbor

Yelp
I absolutely enjoyed every single bite of my Pizza Margherita , freshly made with imported ingredients this perfect thin crust pizza made me think I was back in Italy . Can't wait to be back to try another one of their delicious pizzas . Cute little pizza shop in East Village with friendly service.

Yelp
Unbelievable pizza place in the neighborhood. Incredibly flavorful. Owners are awesome. It's our new go to for any occasion (especially bday parties). You guys rock!

Carolyn B.

Yelp
For fast choice for children who are hungry great idea. Delivery was fast. Every thing was packed nicely.

Taylor G.

Yelp
Seriously the BEST slice in the city and Sal (the owner) is so friendly. I come here all the time and literally crave this pizza!

Johnny T.

Yelp
Delicious. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back. Not at ~7 dollars/slice. If you're charging a higher price to make up for lower volume, it's not going to work. It's the same mistake St. Pizza made and sadly the new owner may find out the hard way. Your product is good, spread the word and the volume will come! Until then, charge market prices and establish your core.

Yelp
Best pizza in nyc!!! They gave us a full run down of their dough making process - pizza made with a lot of love

Yelp
So I'm just hanging out waiting on a friend and I decided to kill some time with a slice. Walked into an unassuming place with decent reviews. The plain looked better but I was in the mood for pepperoni. Guy behind the counter says he usually likes to finish it off with some ricotta and hot honey, so I take him up on it - why not, something different. It's 5 and change, but I'm short the change so I go to pay w my card and he tells me not to worry about it, $5 is good. What a sweetheart, yea? Anyway, the pizza was excellent. Absolutely spectacular. Perfect spice, little sweetness. Extra texture with the ricotta. Sauce is tangy, dough perfectly cooked. Pizza stays straight without slopping over as if it's thinking about baseball, but still perfectly soft to chew on and goes down perfect without sitting in your stomach. Not hungry after just 1 slice, very happy. This is why I love ny. Give the place a try, 10/10.

Yelp
the spicy picante pepporni was the best slice I ever had with the ricotta and bite honey just wow!!!

Yelp
Solid pizza with high quality ingredients and artisan craftsmanship, and what makes Pop's truly 5 stars is the unreal service and family vibe. Very rare for a pizza place in New York nowadays. This part of the neighborhood sorely needed a quality pie establishment and now it has it!

Saoirse D.

Yelp
Amazing pizza and great hospitality!!!!! Thanks so much for your pizza and great food.

Toby D.

Yelp
I was excited to try this pizza based on reviews so was so disappointed when I tried it. I had both the margarita and the cheese. The crust, sauce and cheese were all terrible. The crust was like cardboard, the sauce was sweet and the cheese was tasteless. With all the pizza in NYC just go elsewhere!

Victor S.

Yelp
Hesitant to write this review cuz I kinda wanna gatekeep it for just a little longer before the lines become crazy but I feel like the slices here are actually insanely good and one of the best in the city, definitely can see it becoming the next lindustrie or jonnys

Betty L.

Yelp
Our local slice is 10/10! We tried the mushroom which is topped with arugula after toasting, and the burrata. Both excellent.

Tyler O.

Yelp
Pizza was genuinely some of the best in the city! The service was top notch, really appreciated the attention to my group specifically. Great variety of choices.

Chloe A.

Yelp
The service here was amazing and so was the pizza!!! It was my birthday and the staff fully hooked us up because it was the end of the night, but regardless the pizza was yummy and delicious. Definitely give your business they are worth it.

Violet R.

Yelp
This is the best pizza place ever! It was my friend's birthday and they gave us two boxes of free pizza. And it wasn't throw away pizza either - phenomenal quality! The sauce was everything .

Frank D.

Yelp
the spicy picante was the best slice of the bunch not cause the other ones weren't good it was because that slice very unique and I never had one anywhere else made that way can't wait to go again you go guys

Adamm N.

Yelp
amazing place ate 4 slices just because it was so good ...you have to try the picante spice with everything on the top "the works"!!!
