The Best Places to Take Kids Out to Eat in SF, According to Kids Who Love to Eat | Eater SF

"A rousing recommendation for the crispy chicken sandwich: “If not, STOP ORDERING DOORDASH, and go to Popstar Shawarma and get the crispy chicken sandwich.” The smells, flavors, menu, and “one of the most hardworking and kindest chefs will force you inside the building.” Try the spicy version — “The sauce, spices, bread, butter all just melt on your tongue!” The reviewer promises the flavors and the chefs “will put a smile on your face and tongue!”" - Dianne de Guzman

Azmi Shawarma is a hidden gem for anyone craving something delicious and affordable at SFO. The shawarmas are packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and freshly made — juicy, tender, and genuinely satisfying. For airport food, the prices are surprisingly economical, making it an amazing value. Quick service, generous portions, and truly yummy food. A great stop before your flight!

If you are looking for an authentic Shawarma then this is the place you are looking for. They serve excellent Shawarma with Garlic sauce. The staff was nice and accommodating. Highly Recommended.

Absolute must try - so happy I did! Do not be deterred from the location! This shawarma restaurant is impeccably clean, the food was made fresh, and the owner is wonderful. I had wanted to try Popstar for a while, but the parking/street made me hesitate....however, it's totally worth it as soon as you walk in. Initially I was totally blown away with how sparkly clean this place is. No trash, random food on the countertops, and everything organized and I'm place. The owner took my order and was helpful and knowledgeable, while being friendly. The chicken shawarma was so delicious! Great quality and cooked perfectly! Highly recommend everyone to try and I'll be returning soon!

Google
High quality food with great service. The beef and lamb shawarma is filling. This is one of the best Shawarma places in the Bay Area. For the location, the prices are very reasonable. The shawarma is filing. The inside is clean. The owner is a good man.

I forget if I ended up posting the comment I meant to post last time. Either way, this dish, this place deserves each and every review that comes from me, and I'm going to try being better about it. Chicken cooked perfectly, like this (as it has been every single time I've come here)? It's not to be taken for granted.

We stopped by this place on a weekend. Azmi is a kind, friendly, modest, generous, and caring person. He puts his best foot forward to please his customers. Food was delicious. We would go there again.

Yelp
great hole-in-the-wall restaurant :) came in with a group of 3 friends on a sunday afternoon. the service was top notch and the food came out quickly! i ordered the chicken arabi style. portions were perfect and i even had extras leftover. i also like how their fries are made well done. the man at the register was super nice to us and even gave us free drinks. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
Good food, friendly proprietor, great service but sketchy neighborhood. I would not sit with my back to the door. Doordash might be the better way to go for this place.

Yelp
Azmi is the owner and I have the privilege of meeting him. I ordered the Shawarma wrap and it was delicious alongside their french fries that came with fresh cucumber, pickles, lemons. I encourage everyone to come try out his Shawarma wraps.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant with a group of my friends. The restaurant is not in the safest neighborhood, but it's okay if you go during the day. The menu has a very wide selection and the food was great as well. I don't think it's an affordable price but potentially on the higher end. But the food tasted good. There was only one worker who I am assuming is the owner. Thus, the service may be a little slow. There is a restroom and card is accepted.

Yelp
Great food and love the owner. Convenient place to get shwarma. I would visit this place every time I am in town.

Yelp
One of the best shawarma I've had in California and I've had a lot! Authentic and delicious meals and wraps, friendly and welcoming chef, prices are low and quality is high, the place is clean and vibrant Waited less than 10mins for 3 wraps and a meal, I will definitely be back next time I'm in SF!

Yelp
Great for kids. Prices are ok. Friendly and helpful staff. Great food. Try them. Parking - you have to park somewhere.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today, first time in, and the food was amazing (I got the chicken sarookh wrap). Needless to say, this is a brutal block in SF (6th between Market and Mission), but all the more reason to support this small business. Super friendly service. Based on observation as well as the quality of the food, the chef clearly takes great pride in his craft. The only downside was the wait time. However, I believe that's simply a function of everything being made to order + a small team. I ordered and ate in the restaurant today, but may call ahead or order online next time and pick up. Either way, I'm definitely going back and working my way down the menu! Support this local business!

Yelp
I went soon after opening on a weekday. The staff is small here, I think the owner and one additional staff member. I was confused if the restaurant was open because there was no one but the staff there. Despite all this I went ahead and ordered and boy was I glad I did! We got the mixed plate and a chicken pita both were outstanding! Juicy, well seasoned and fresh. They both came with a garlic sauce and a hot sauce... and the hot sauce was SPICY! The mixed platter came with rice, bread, salad and sauces. Everything was perfect! The food was phenomenal period. Please go here, be patient and order a lot, you will not be disappointed. It's a small shop with a few tables for seating nothing too fancy, drinks are cans of soda or water and all the meat is halal and fantastic. Additionally the tea is amazing we had the adani tea that has what felt like warm spices and milk.

Yelp
A surprisingly delightful find in a not so delightful area of the city. Good shawarma is hard to come by in SF, for some reason. They really nail the basics here, with well-seasoned, tender, and high-quality meat. I tried the combo plate, which comes with chicken & beef/lamb shawarma, rice, pita, and a mix of diced tomatoes & lettuce. The highlight was the chicken, and while the beef was also tasty, next time I think I'd go with just the chicken since that seemed to be their specialty. Everything went really well with the toom (garlic dip), which I believe is homemade. The serving was a good value for the portion size, $19. I also tacked on a "side" of hummus, for an additional $2, which the owner did as a custom add-on. The hummus was interesting, and had a nutty flavor to it, which was different but also good. The owner i believe is Palestinian, and he clearly knows his stuff. This is most definitely a "hole in the wall" location, and unfortunately the neighborhood isn't great. I'd recommend either getting takeout or coming earlier in the day if you plan to dine in.

Yelp
Best shawarma in the Bay Area, since the first bite all the nostalgia kicks in as if I was back home in the Middle East. Highly recommend to everyone that likes juicy fresh shawarma meat!

Yelp
In a less than pretty area of the city. When we arrived, there weren't any other customers inside, but the owner was very welcoming and took our orders quickly. The kitchen and cooking area is front and center, and it's immediately noticeable how clean the place is. The food is incredibly reasonably priced and the portion sizes are large. It's evident this is a family-owned business which serves as the owner's livelihood, and the food is authentic and tasty. Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Very good food and excellent service thank you i tried the back home style shawarma it was delicious

Yelp
I got a burger and fries and it was so delicious. The burger was massive! It was quick and friendly service and it's very modern inside. The only thing I would say is I wish the tomato and onion was in slices instead of diced. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
So happy to have this place in the neighborhood. Seriously tasty food. The meat is nicely spiced. The rice has a wonderful zest to it. And the portions are big. The platter was enough for a full meal and a decent midnight munchies snack. A big shout out to the dude running the place seemingly all by himself. Super chill and friendly. Make sure to tip him well.

Saleh J.

Yelp
The shawerma is incredible and taste's super authentic. But the only issue is the place itself, it's located in a very very bad neighborhood and the lack of parking makes it even worse. Again in terms of food it's easily the best in SF.

Yelp
Shawarma is soooo good!! If you're looking for a good shawarma in SF, this is it. The food is great and the servings are good size. Garlic sauce and chicken are yummy and taste just like the shawarmas in Jordan! Service was quick and the owner is very nice. The strawberry ice cream here is good as well. 10/10 will be coming back

Mian U.

Yelp
Easily the best shawarma I've had in SF. Both the chicken and lamb/beef shawarma are great. The texture of the wrap itself is perfect, not just a tortilla or dry lavash. Also, the toum is delicious. Great portion for the price. The owner is super friendly and welcoming, great guy! Lots of seating, great to dine-in.

Calvin H.

Yelp
The service was amazing and food quality was great. Our group got our food less than 15 minutes from ordering. I would 100% would come back.

Yelp
I had the chicken Shawerma and it's the best chicken Shawerma in the country!!!! I lived in Jordan so I know what I'm talking about. Please don't waste your time or money going anywhere else this is the best!!!

Yelp
Solid food never disappoints! Owner is very kinda. I inhaled it. My favorite is the chicken shawarma and the ice cream is amazing too.

L B.

Yelp
Ordered the Chicken Sarookh Wrap and the Lamb Sarookh Wrap and both were A+. The toum and pickles were especially tasty. Would come back again, and don't let the location stop you from trying it!

Carlos A.

Yelp
A newer spot , Shawarma is fire & the staff are all very nice. Worth stopping by every time !

Alex P.

Yelp
When I walked in there was only one person waiting before me so I thought my order would go through quickly. I waited 25 minutes for a simple wrap and fries. I asked the person before me how early he ordered before me and he said 5 minutes... so his wait was 30 minutes. I would think after waiting that long the fries would have been more special but there were just frozen crinkle cut fries with some salt and pepper. They tasted like they were under a heat lamp for a while... not very satisfying. The sandwich tasted good at least. But I felt things were very expensive. I could see the meat on their rotisserie and it was not a very complicated sandwich so again, I don't understand why the wait was so long. I like to support business in my area but Popstar was a Flopstar.

Yelp
yooooo this place is so chillll. went in with my buddy, baked asffff, and we both got a shawarma. the cashier guided us through the options so easily and clean, experienced dude fs. the bland interior of this place gives a perfect environment to really taste and enjoy your food. this sauce hits so good when u faded mannnn. bro also hit us up witth a free plate right off the little spear thing with a big meat. owner stands on businessss ‼‼‼
