A Polarizing Rip-and-Dip Bagel Shop Is Expanding All Around Boston | Eater Boston

"Three months after its Boston debut in the Seaport, the controversial rip-and-dip bagel purveyor that has amassed a cult following in NYC is adding two more locations around the city. One store is going into Assembly Row, the shiny Somerville shopping district; the other is going smack in the middle of Harvard Square, at 1430 Massachusetts Avenue, down the block from fellow NYC import Joe’s Pizza. Both shops are aiming to open later this year, according to a rep for the developments." - Erika Adams

This was the strangest experience I’ve ever had. Came in here at 9am on a Tuesday like the pregnant fat kid I am needing a bagel and cream cheese. Turns out their bagels are sold in packs of 3 only. I went back and forth with the cashier being like but I just want ONE bagel. It is truly the oddest business model to be forced to buy 3 bagels for 15 bucks with cream cheese that only works for like 2 of the bagels. I proceeded to be forget about it I’ll just google somewhere else in assembly when an angel of a store manager appeared like my knight in shining armor- he said he would just on the house give me 2 bagels and only charge me for the cream cheese (7). That was a really honest to goodness customer service act right there. This dude totally made it right to be like yeah it’s really weird we don’t do single bagels. Overall great experience here and the food was good, I just won’t be back because well… I just want one bagel and cream cheese for 3.50 like a normal place (mamalehas etc). If you come here you can also eat at capitol one next door bc this spot has literally zero seating

Very good bagels: soft on the inside with crispy exterior. The cream cheese choices at the time were odd and admittedly unappealing (pink peppercorn and tiramisu) but I know they rotate. There’s some outdoor seating so we got our pack of 3 and sat and ate outside.

An unconventional bagel which was more close to sourdough breads as it lacks traditional bagel chewiness. Scallion schmear had creamy texture with amazing flavor. It is a fun bagel experience but not the best in Boston nor in New England. It is also quite overpriced for a bagel and cream cheese. If you are a true conventional bagel (New York style) fan, you wouldn’t appreciate that much in this place. If you like hyped, fun, New York like experience, you would enjoy more on Pop Up Bagel.

Super yummy bagels!! Very fast and pleasant service! I love the scallion shmears so much that I have not even tried the other ones. The bagels are always fresh and toasty!

Bagels were great! This is a bagel shop, not a sandwich shop. Bagels come in bundles of 3, 6, 12, and a smear of you choice. We got the pepper smear, really good! We took it home and assembled a bagel ourselves.

Very disappointing! I come here every week to try out the new flavors and I love bagels. Every time I come I get either the butter or cream cheese and it’s always soft and easy to scoop up with pieces of the bagel. However, this time the butter I got was frozen rock solid! I have to crush it up with the cup and my hand just to get chunks of it on my bagel. I also asked about the new cream cheese flavor and they said they didn’t have it, but I saw it on the counter and the worker was putting it inside a bag! Overall, I think I’ll stop coming here because why am I paying $15 for frozen butter?

Great bagels with a delicious scallion schmear! The atmosphere is lively with vibrant music, and the staff is super friendly. We enjoyed every bit of it!

Bagels were toasted, very chewy but not too hard, I liked it’s crispy outside! I’ll recommend the everything flavor. Visited at around 10 on the weekend, there wasn’t a long line, only took 5-10 mins to get the bagels!
