5 foodie spots chef Pamelia Chia is dying to visit when she's back in Singapore - SilverKris

"A beloved zi char joint favored for no-frills communal dining, simple yet well-balanced condiments and hearty dishes; highlights include a coarse chilli condiment of green and red chillies with garlic and particularly memorable champagne ribs, making it a comfortable spot for good food, beer and family gatherings — it’s even been considered as a wedding venue for its charm." - Alexandra Karplus

Traditional zhecar with quite a quality food. We had a great meal at Por Keng Eating House 1996. The standout dish for us was the Champagne Short Pork Ribs. The pork was tender, nicely glazed, and had a good balance of sweetness and aroma that made every bite enjoyable. We also tried several other dishes, and everything came out flavorful and served hot. Portions were reasonable for sharing, and the prices felt fair for the quality. Service was prompt and straightforward. The staff checked in on us and made sure dishes came out in a smooth flow. The place has that classic local zi char vibe, perfect for a casual meal with family or friends. Overall it was a satisfying dining experience and worth returning for those delicious pork ribs alone. If you are around the area and craving a hearty meal, Por Keng Eating House 1996 is definitely a good choice.

One of the best zhi char places I’ve been to in singapore. Literally a hidden gem. Waitress were attentive and fast. I would rate the SASP being one of the best I’ve had internationally. The tofu was so silky and smooth, I could have devoured the entire dish myself. I would definitely be back to try more dishes. Highly recommend!!

Old school eatery with a nostalgic feel. An auntie service staff was very friendly, cheerful and absolutely helpful in recommendation for our table of 11 pax and she told us she has been working there for 13/14 years now. She is definitely one of the highlights ! We took the $428 set and glady every dish did not disappoint at all and our family really enjoyed the food & services provided ! Highly recommended the cold dish combination, roast chicken with crackers, cereal prawn and champagne ribs !

How lucky to find this restaurant! The foods are all fresh and very well cooked, not salty at all! That’s amazing! Very healthy I believe. Come in group to try different tastes. The champagne ribs with rice are highly recommended, we also try the fried noodle and Hongkong steam fish, all are very good. Better come at around 6 pm for dinner as at 7 pm, it’s totally full.

The champagne short ribs were definitely the highlight of the dinner – super tender and full of flavor. The dofu tasted like the homemade kind, and the bullfrog herbal soup was also good. Plus, the prices are very reasonable!

Food is good. Went at weekday lunch time and it was quite empty The champagne ribs is tasty but abit too fat. The homemade beancurd texture is really soft and nice. The veg is good and the 酸辣汤 is delicious. My friends particularly enjoyed the Orh bee which they say is not too sweet and the portion for one is huge!

Restaurant is located inside Seng Poh Lane parking lot. Usually parking is not an issue. Rustic feel and mostly outdoor seating with only limited indoor seating.

Food came so fast, and we sat outside so the vibes were unique and charming. Everything was delicious, but the standouts for me are the cereal prawn, signature tofu (PLS ORDER THIS so addictive) and the champagne pork. The crispy skin chicken meat was a little dry and under-seasoned/marinated in my opinion.
