Other favorites include the hoppy, fruity Integral IPA and the malty Port City Porter. Its events calendar is frequently filled with yoga, comedy, and pup adoption events. The tasting room is open daily, with tacos and tostados from Alexandria’s own La Tingeria." - Tierney Plumb

Google
We had a great time visiting your nephew and his favorite brewery! It's always a good sign when a place manages to be both family-friendly and have great craft brews. We enjoyed the atmosphere and walked away with some great swag. Highly recommend you stop in for a beer.

Google
A great selection of beers in a nice clean taproom. You can drink near the production area which is cool. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The bathrooms are clean and there is plenty of seating both inside and outside!

Carne Asada Tinga Tostada was way too spicy to eat. Shrimp tostada was excellent Carne asada fries were good if you’re sharing. They load it up. I got a light citrus hazy and it was good

If you’re searching for an amazing destination in the Alexandria, VA area, look no further! This place is a total gem, and I can't get enough of it—especially when the weather heats up! The energy in the air is absolutely contagious, and you can sip on some of the finest local craft beers around. It’s the perfect spot to kick back, relax, and revel in the vibrant atmosphere!

Google
Port City is one of our favorite breweries in the area. They have a ton of options and are always releasing new beers. You will enjoy them if you particularly like german-style beers! I can't wait until they open a kitchen so there will be food on site too. There is always a ton of parking, they are very dog friendly, and they host so many fun events for the community! Would definitely recommend.

Google
Great little craft brewery in Alexandria. It's a little distance out of the Old Town area but well worth the trip. We stopped through the area while I was in town for a meeting. Really enjoyed the atmosphere there. They had some great craft brews and good eats from a local food truck.

Courtney Reynolds

Google
We hosted our baby shower at Port City and the event was great! Ryan was super helpful answering questions along the way and helping explain options for the event and what Port City could offer us. Justin was also very helpful the day of the event. The beer, the staff and the venue were great! I would highly recommend having an event here.

Thomas Lopez

Google
Visited from out of state and it was an amazing experience! Highly recommend the tour on weekends as you learn a lot about the history of the brewery and how their operations work. All workers there provided excellent customer service and my tour guide was great! Definitely will visit again when I'm in town as Port City provides excellent quality beer at a great price for consumers (especially in 4 and 6 packs to go)!

Yelp
Had a good time here with my wife, her sister, and her sister's hubby. The staff was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Really helped guide us toward interesting, tasty beer choices and encouraged us to try mini-flights of different things. Heads up: there is an additional room for seating that can be easy to miss. Both rooms have a cool atmosphere, but the alternative room where we ended up lets you see some of the beer-brewing operation. We hear the taco truck outside is great, but we arrived too late to try it. If we could change one thing, it would be moving the food inside somehow and syncing its service hours up with the tasting room's hours. But there may be permitting reasons why that's not already the model here. Anyway, no complaints - this place is awesome!
google avatar

Rickster F.

Yelp
Nasty! They permit DOGS on the premises! Uuugh. We have been there several times but are unlikely to return. Too crowded and the beer is good -- but nothing there is extraordinary. Service is brusque.
google avatar

Brigette K.

Yelp
It is really too bad that this place no longer allows dogs inside, because I came here ALL the time and would have drinks with my boyfriend. Now that there is this taco place as part of Port City, no dogs are allowed inside. That means in the dead of cold winter and the high heat of the climate change summer, I will definitely not be coming here since I can't bring my dog. There are countless taco places. There are rarely places that allow dogs inside. I'm sure I'm not the only one saddened by this.
google avatar

Billy V.

Yelp
HORRIBLE NEWS No longer will dogs be allowed inside the Taproom. No Mas... They will be allowed on the outside beer garden; ONLY. Reason: food service. Health laws must be followed. Agreed. New kitchen and expanded food service. I understand change. If you don't change; change will pass you by. I am a big fan. Great service. Awesome beers. Plenty of elbow room for adults. Now, well-behave dogs outside. This is a real bummer for me and my Sugaree. This place was date night with the wife. Three times a week. Only brewery in town to allow dogs inside. With the cold weather in winter and hot summers. Limited future date nights; lol. I wish Port City good future. Opening a restaurant is difficult. Continue success Port City. I just will not be able to go as often in the future. Sorry. Real Bummer...

Yelp
Great beer, greater employees! Love the environment (inside and out!) and sometimes they even have some live music and a food truck or two if you're lucky!
google avatar

Daira R.

Yelp
Cool little brewery with a food truck outside. Came by here for a semi-large gathering recently and the group all seemed to enjoy themselves. We were lucky the weather was nice out, because the inside was PACKED! Our group was probably about 20 people, so the outdoor space was perfect for us. It was a bummer that 3 of the outdoor heaters weren't working and when we asked staff to turn them on the staff tried but couldn't and that was that. We got over it tho and enjoyed the beer, food, and company. There were also NA options for the non-drinkers and under 21s in your party.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I love it when I find parking. Beer is good and cold. My favorite is the Porter but the rest also taste good. I've occasionally bought snacks from local vendors or food trucks. Staff is always nice.

Yelp
How cool to have a brewery so close to where I was training! This brewery reminded me of New Realm in Atlanta, mainly due to location. Port City is right near a park area and not in a highly busy area. I opted to take a Bird Scooter to get here, and was able to get on Eisenhower Ave and use a connecting park trail to make it over to Wheeler. They have a nice setup outside and inside. Benches and high tops outside, with Edison lighting. Inside a taproom upstairs and smaller area to hangout near the bar. I believe they have some arcade games too. Very family friendly. I liked the selection of beers (disappointed that they were out of their Pumpkin Ale and Hefeweizen. I tried the Helles, Oktoberfest, German Pilsner, Rauchbier, Colossal Two, Optimal Wit, Beach Night, Porter, Pizza Night and Hazy IPA. This was over the course of two visits. I also had a Boars Head Sammie and chips (both decent, so you can eat here). Their Optimal Wit seems to be the flagship. It's certainly the best on tap and would compete with other Wits. My second favorite was the Helles. Loved this blonde lager. Pizza Night was my third and was a very easy drinking beer. Those are pretty much the ones I'd recommend. The Colossal Two & Rauchbier were also worth trying and recommended. The hazy ipa just didn't have that fruity punch I like in a beer (I had hoped this one would too my list). Overall, though, really good selection of beer and not set to one niche style. Oh, the music was amazing. Late 90s/early 2000 alternative. Perfect setting for me! A must stop if you are in the area.

Yelp
Love the vibes, the beers and the people that work here! Family friendly place, ample parking and cozy environment. There's always a favorite on the menu and from this place mines is the Optimal Wit beer. Staff is friendly, personable and attentive. There's a private event room to book for any celebration but you also can just gather your group of friends, bring some food or munchies, grab a table and enjoy from the ample selection of amazing craft beers this place offers. Did I say dogs are allowed and they have food trucks? It's a must visit!
google avatar

Fred K.

Yelp
What a beer lovers place to go. Lots of parking across the street. I've seen their beers in many beer and wine stores and Optimal Wit is probably the most recognizable. For folks that like pilsners like me, there are so many to choose from and really enjoyed their downright Pilsner and their American pale ale, essential pale ale. Nice to see breweries still make these that are not all IPA's. Their outdoor seating is huge with smaller indoor and bar seating and in the back where the beer tanks are even more seating and also where you can reserve tables for bigger parties. They don't serve food but have food trucks where you can order food. Lots of TV's to watch sports. For the kids they have two arcades (like Donkey Kong, Pac man, Galaga) that are free to use.
google avatar

Nahush G.

Yelp
Beerfest with live music was awesome! Good beers inside and out. Good vibes. Chill. Can't beat it!
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Plenty of beer options. Cool merchandise. Not the largest indoor seating space but enough to fit crowds of people. Plenty of outdoor seating space and a food vendor if you're looking for a bite. Overall, a cool place to settle for drinks.

William K.

Yelp
Best service. My regular beer at home too. Buy by the cold case. Great Downright Pilsner!
google avatar

Yan W.

Yelp
Really great venue for events and they have an amazing tour. I don't drink, but I really enjoyed my experiences here. First they have ample space for birthdays, going always, etc. they host events such as gear exchanges and so forth as well. I loved how patient and kind they were to us on a recent tour. I would definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Richard O.

Yelp
Pleasant spot to get a beer and catch up after work! I tried their Monumental Offering but they have a variety to accommodate any palate and from the awards on the walls, it seems they have won quite a few awards and tastings. Staff are very friendly in recommending from the selection and let me try before I chose the one I wanted. The location has ample seating areas inside and outside and is very dog friendly which was wonderful to see on the beautiful day I visited.
google avatar

Howard F.

Yelp
We had a cool tour of the brewery, followed by a beer tasting. Even when I'm not a big fan of their beer, I really like the experience of just hanging out drinking beer here. I preferred the Downright, which is a decent Czech Pilsner, and I'm ok with their Optimal Wit, which is their most popular beer. The Rauchbier is distinctive: the guy described it as hints of smoky bacon, while smoking a cigar and sitting by a roaring fireplace. I didn't mind the smoky bacon tones to it, but it had an aftertaste like swimming in cigar smoke (which will work for you only insofar as you like that sort of thing). Tidings was a bit spicy and fruity, and Beachdrive was a golden ale with a lot of honey flavor - I was not a fan of either one. C'est la vie.

Yelp
Port City has been our go-to brewery for a few years now. The people are great, the atmosphere is cozy, and the beer....THE BEER IS ALWAYS WORTH THE TRIP. The staff is always polite, helpful and a good time. Their service time is quick and they seem to love what they do. I'm a part of a double dutch team (Double Dutch Homies - Google us) and they let us jump there on Wednesday nights when it got too cold to jump outdoors. We even had our one year anniversary jump there in the spring. Port City also hosts a lot of other great groups/events. I know they have a book club that meets there, a yoga class, a comedy night and more - check out their calendar. They don't serve fresh food. They just added some packaged things to their store but they do host a ton of local food trucks. You're also welcome to take your own food. My wife and I decided to "celebrate" our anniversary there and packed a nice picnic. It was a very low key but fantastic date. All of that to say, I highly recommend Port City. Go, grab a beer, stay a while and then go back!

Yelp
The downright Pilsner won awards and should continue to win more. The vibe, the music, the beer. Would recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
The patio is nicely set up with picnic tables and high tops. Great for families and groups. Large beer selection- recommend their pilsner
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Beer is good, AC is strong. We gathered a bunch of friends to have a variety of beers. Everyone was happy.
google avatar

Hayward L.

Yelp
Popular spot for hikers, bikers, and everybody in between. Large beer menu, I personally enjoyed their lighter beers like the Pilsner. Lots of long outdoor tables that are set up in the beer garden style. Staff let us try 2 samples before making our order, the bartenders are efficient! Parking is pretty easy either next to the brewery or on the street.
google avatar

karen k.

Yelp
What fun, tables outside in the sun or in the shade. At table ordering possible. Came for the food truck but family loves the Mexican Lager! A big hit. Inside seating is available but more fun to watch the people and all the dogs outside.
google avatar

Shawn K.

Yelp
For as many people as there were, I'm surprised they got us beers as quick as they did. Kudos to the team. This place is way too crowded for my tastes, but they're the real deal. Lots of beers to choose from on tap. Me and my buddy got the pizza lager. Boy did that make me want a slice of pizza. Was a delicious light beer with a hint of sweetness. Just a small aftertaste of hops at the end (I don't like a strong hoppy taste). Just so ya'll know, this place is bustlin'. It can be difficult to converse amongst yourselves, especially if one is a soft speaker. The outdoor seating seemed to be the most quiet of the several areas they house.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful Saturday visit as we wanted to find a local spot with friends that have a toddler. We originally came following a food truck, but everything was great! Plenty of seating in various areas. We sat in the factory looking area and though it was a bit warm, they did have the fans going plus games to enjoy in the meantime. Dog friendly as well! We enjoyed the drinks and the employees were knowledgeable on beer to suggest based on our likings we had shared.
google avatar

Yelp
Port City Brewing Company offers a fun, social environment with both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a group of about 15 people and were able to sit together at a long indoor table on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed with groups ranging from couples to large groups, and there were lots of dogs and babies all throughout! They offer a large selection of freshly brewed beers. Their beer flights are handled slightly differently than other breweries in that they give you tickets to order your next flight beer when you're ready rather than get all the beer samples at once. The bartender said they chose this method so the other beers don't get warm. My boyfriend and I sampled a large portion of the menu between the two of us. Optimal Wit, Pizza Night, and Panda Haze were a few of my favorites (I prefer lighter beers), and Colossal Two was my least favorite. It tasted like a smoked piece of wood. The brewery itself doesn't have a kitchen, but they have a fresh lineup of food trucks that change out every week. There was also a gentleman selling his fresh homemade salsa and queso with chips inside the building for patrons to purchase as well. There's a large parking lot across the street, which is very comvenient. Overall the ambiance was fun and I would come back again!
google avatar

Jimmy L.

Yelp
Love this local brewery. Such a cool hangout spot, offering a great selection of craft brew beverages. My favorite beer here is the Optimal Wit. There are lots of great outdoor space here, and the indoor bar area is pretty expansive. Parking here is available at the lot and along the street. One of my favorite breweries in the area for sure!
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Beer is average to slightly above average. Ambience is similar to any of the many other craft breweries in the area, located in an industrial park without much to look at. Customer service, extremely poor. The bartender, "Big Red" was cold and impersonable. I'm sure he still insists on getting a 25% tip. Overall, the product they offer is a commodity in this area. I'd go elsewhere.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Great people, amazingly huge and delicious range of beers, and we'll-curated food trucks.
google avatar

Harold H.

Yelp
Port city brewery it is a great place to go. Enjoy people enjoy good food food truck, great expectation on the quality of beer. Diversity of the beer port city is number one had a great time Saturday. I know it was cool.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
The looks here are deceiving- when we showed up on the dead end road on a gorgeous Saturday, we saw the place was packed and were worried it would be a zoo. They had a food truck outside and a person selling great chips and salsa, as well as pre-made sandwiches and chips sold inside. You can order on QR code and people will run out your drink or you can order inside at the bar. I will say, everyone working there was very nice and accommodating- usually people at breweries seem to be grouchy but everyone here was super helpful. We had to share a table outside but not issue there- tons of outdoor seating. A private event was going on so the beer garden area and the upstairs were closed off. We enjoyed the stein size beer and the optimal wit. When we ordered a 6 pack to go, the bartender even walked it out to our table. I would love to come back here!
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
BOOK YOUR PRIVATE EVENT HERE!! Amazing location for a private event. We reserved the Lighthouse Lounge for a private event of about 40 people. We were able to bring our own separately contracted catering, decorate, and have accesses to the exclusive space well in advance of the event. Ryan, the event manager, was very responsive, answered all our questions and gave us the best advice. Andrew the bartender for our event was incredible, professional, and engaging, and Shawn the evening manager was constantly checking in with us to ensure our event was going smoothly and we had everything we needed. You cant beat the rates, the exclusivity of the Lighthouse Lounge or the service. We will almost certainly host another event here!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Before browsing the Holidays Makers' Market at Port City Brewing Company, we decided to get Snifters of Hazy IPA and Experimental Pineapple Wheat Beer to sip on. The Experimental Pineapple Wheat Beer was smooth, fruity (pineapple), and dry. It was good but I don't think I'd order it again. I hope that they add sours or ciders to their beer menu in their near future.

Yelp
Relying on public transportation, it took a little effort to get here from D.C. Not a lot, but more than jumping in my car (which I didn't have) to go there on a whim......I had to plan. TOTALLY worth it, and a great way to kick off what I hope will be a multi-country craft beer tour. Very friendly, helpful staff. I started with, I think, a German-style dark lager which was delicious. My goal was to take in the Helles Golden Lager, but the staff steered me here. The Lager had a slight toasty flavour which I enjoyed. I then detoured and decided to try the Beach Drive Golden Ale. DELICIOUS!!!! Needless to say, I never made it to Helles. I stuck with Beach Drive for the rest of my stay, and my commute and tiny beer bladder prohibited me from imbibing further. I did stay for 90 minutes and three beers longer than I intended, it was that good. The space is amazing and they have food trucks from time to time. One of the best craft breweries I've been to. Do yourself a favour and check this place out.

Yelp
I've drank many of the various brews from Port City Brewing Co. over the years - but never before had visited the actual brewery. So while out running errands around the area one rainy Sunday afternoon - I made a point to stop in and check out the tasting room and some of the ale offerings. I did a tasting flight of the following three ales: Essential Pale Ale (5.5% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Ways & Means IPA (4.5% ABV) (3.25 stars on Untappd) Integral IPA (7.0% ABV) (3.75 stars on Untappd) All the ales I tasted were enjoyable - the Pale Ale was my favorite! The Ways & Means was my least favorite - due to the fact that it is brewed with Citra hops As a hop head, I think I am in the minority - with regard to Citra - seems like most people really like Citra. For me, the use of Centennial hops (which I like) manages to rescue this ale for me rating-wise. The tasting room was pretty busy when I arrived. Lots of folks enjoying themselves. Nice craft brewery! #PortCityBrewingCo
google avatar

Ciaran L.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot. A bit away from main drag of Alexandria tucked well away in an industrial area. Spacious tasting room with additional seating upstairs and outside. They have around 10-16 beers on tap. The beers we had were okay, nothing to write home about but still a cool vibe. One thing we really came for and enjoyed was a Saturday night comedy night on the second floor. Pretty entertaining and had alot of fun.
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
This was fun time out on patio drinking some good beers and petting other peoples pooches. Tried many different brews and really enjoyed the bock fun place worth your time when I get back to this area again will go back
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious beer and nice indoor and outdoor seating options! Optimal Wit has been my favorite go to summer drink for the past few years so it's great to get it fresh out of the tap!
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Good beer and friendly staff. Very nice dog friendly tasting room and a large outdoor seating area.
google avatar

Hunter B.

Yelp
Solid brewery. Plenty of parking when I went and great outdoor seating as well as inside. They did not have the biggest selection but they have tasters. For tasting they give you 6 tickets for each beer tasting and they never expire so you do not have to use them all and could come back. I tried the Helles, flagship pilsner, and Mexican dark lager. All solid but Mexican dark lager was probably the best. They have little snacks to purchase but they also have rotating food trucks. The prices were reasonable and good atmosphere with dogs. I would definitely go back.
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Great diversity, no one is unwelcome. Oh, and great beers! Never had a bad experience, and they treat everyone with respect.

Yelp
Port City Brewing Company may be the largest brewery in the Washington, D.C. area when it comes to space. It's in Alexandria, Virginia and comes with a large tasting room, small room in the back, patio, and indoor seating near where they brew the beer. That's just the first floor. Take the beautiful spiral stairs to the second floor for another bar, tasting room, and more bathrooms. The staff are friendly and passionate about the beer they brew. Tours are offered throughout the weekend as well as regular events to keep people coming back. They have corn hole on the bottom floor and large tables to host groups. Food trucks can be found outside at times. They have a medium sized menu and offer pre-set tastings or you can buy a taste for $3. They have seasonal beer, darker beers, and lighter beers. I went with my family with a wide range of preferences and we all found something we enjoyed. This brewery is kid friendly and you'll likely see other parents if you are one too.
google avatar

Justine R.

Yelp
Good solid beers. Great outdoor space. They allow pets. I enjoyed the flight options they offered.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Wow, one taste and you will wish you lived close to this place! WOW!!! Greater porter and lots of styles to find your happy place. I read a local review and then a list of the best in Virginia and this place was on the list. Fortunately I was near by for another appt. 12 choices on tap, you can find something here. Promotional items too are pretty cool like a growler cover, almost bought one but got a key chain instead. Tasting area available.

Yelp
We discovered Port City while biking along Holmes Run Trail in Alexandria, VA. Located in what appears to be an industrial park, the Port City Brewery has an nice exterior that includes an outside drinking area (with a firepit), plenty of parking, and a bike rack for anyone that wants to travel there the way we did. The interior is simple: two bars, typical bar seating arrangements, and a back around with additional seating and arcade games. If your interested, Port City does offer tours of the brewery, and has events that take place every month as well. The beer is great! And with 9 beers on tap, typically ranging in price from $3 (Taster) to $7 (Tulip,Pint), there's guaranteed to a beer on the menu to satisfy any taste and price point. If you like stronger beers (think Guinness), I suggest the Porter (Robust Porter, 7.2% ABV), easily one of the best in the category. We definitely plan to come back for the beer, atmosphere, and for one of their many monthly events!

Yelp
Great place with a great beer selection. Enjoyed the afternoon sunshine with my pup. Customer service was on point and very friendly. Music was a spring vibe which added to my beer consumption. Totally a joke but to was feeling the vibes today. See you again soon Port City Brewery.

Yelp
My first visit to this brewery, but not my first time hearing or tasting a Port City Brewing Co beverage! I was familiar with the name and their famous namesakes, so was very excited when a weekend adventure took us near this place. The building is LARGE - initially you may walk in and feel a tinge of over-crowded anxiousness, but FEAR NOT. They have a huge picnic table style seating area in their brewing room (dogs not allowed in this portion). You can also reach a "hidden" area by walking through the main room, past the bathroom hall, and up the winding staircase. Here you will find a much more quiet tasting area with additional seating. Plus, they have a bathroom up here as well. They do offer beer flights, which they honor using a ticket system. It is not complicated to figure that out, so don't be concerned. The pours can come in 5oz (tasters), 10oz, or pint size. They don't have "food" per se, but there seems to always be a rotation of food trucks outside - and you can bring the food inside to enjoy. Dog and kid friendly. Ample parking lot across the street in addition to street parking.

Yelp
If they brewed Bacon Beer, it'd be Pork City Brewing. Yes Bacon Beer exists. I looked it up. I thought I invented something more hipster than hipsterdom, so I looked it up and sure enough... someone already did it. Port City Brewing is popular in the area because they are locally owned and they do the whole Optimal Wit and IPA hipsterbeers and all that stuff. This is part of the new wave and the hipstersdo a good job and you can find their products all over DC and elsewhere. A little pricy but so is your Aunt. And she's worth it.

Yelp
Craft beer brewery with something to satisfy everyone's tastes. Plenty of seating in main bar area, picnic tables in the brewery room, and more seating in the back game room area. Tasting tickets are cheap and you get a nice sized glass of brew! Menu of rotating beers on tap, and worth trying out as many as you can as there are around a dozen or so. Small gift shop area by front door to score some swag on the way out. NFL games on the flatscreens. An odd location but not too hard to find. They also have a food truck here on weekends. Great place!

Yelp
Great little brewery in NoVA. They have multiple spaces to chill - you can hang at the bar, on a couch in the back, outside, or in the room with the barrels. They have a large selection of beers, although they are pretty IPA heavy. I definitely enjoy this place and would recommend stopping by to check out their beers!
