Port Douglas Peninsula Boutique Hotel | Best places to stay in Port Douglas

"With its chunky exterior and spartan rooms, this beachside hotel is never going to win any design awards – but it is tremendous value for money. The apartment-style rooms are cheerful and equipped with kitchenettes – a big selling point if you are travelling on a budget. Amenities include a small pool and guest laundry. Despite its compact size, this property has everything you might need. It’s also brilliantly located between Four Mile Beach and Macrossan Street, the town’s restaurant and café belt. The adults-only policy will also appeal to couples looking for extra tranquillity. " - Mark Chipperfield

The current TripAdvisor Ai generated review pretty perfectly summarises our recent experience of The Peninsula; Peninsula Boutique Hotel offers a mixed experience for visitors. While many travelers enjoy the spacious rooms and beachfront location near shops and Four Mile Beach, some find the accommodations dated and in need of maintenance. Cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with some praising it and others noting issues. The breakfast and pool amenities earn positive feedback, though the hotel is considered pricey for its condition. Service is generally seen as friendly and helpful.||My husband and I previously stayed here in November 2019 and loved the property and location. On that visit we had a ground floor room with a small patio facing the beach, and parked on the road right outside the room. As such, we didn’t see as much of the actual hotel. ||This visit we were on a higher floor and perhaps that’s why we noticed that the corridors were clean, but very tired looking. As others have said the car park is quite scruffy, although we didn’t really mind that. Our suite now looked dated; some mould around the shower and little glitches like mismatched crockery, wardrobe doors sticking and coat hangers stuck to the little plastic bits that they’re attached to on the hanging rail making them impossible to hang anything without buttons onto. I do appreciate that these are first world problems, but as others have said, this property has fairly premium pricing. ||On the plus side, the location is absolutely superb. We really enjoyed our breakfasts, parking is free, the pool area is genius, so much pool and seating designed into a fairly small space, and from what we saw was all clean. The staff were all lovely and, an absolute bonus when you’re on a long trip - there’s complimentary washers and dryers on each floor. ||It’s a brilliantly located and comfortable hotel, but to my mind, overpriced for its current condition.

Location by the beach and the Main Street in town was excellent. Breakfast was good but service was inconsistent; Sometimes quick and sometimes slow. Pool was good. Suite was tired and needs updating. Slats in room dividers were falling out. Wall repairs not completed. TV outdated and didn't work very well to support streaming music. Overall a pleasant stay but for the cost we would have expected better presentation and cleanliness.

We visit the Peninsula every year. There’s so much to enjoy about it. Position .. directly opposite the beach. Close to shops and restaurants. And Hi Tide at the Peninsula is a fabulous busy little restaurant open all day. We love happy hour and always meet some great people. And the staff are so friendly and helpful . |Breakfast is included which is a huge plus..|Not much lunch needed and then out for a restaurant dinner!|Beach chairs and towels are provided and there are lovely areas to lounge around the pool areas. |The rooms are fine.. a bit old fashioned and kitchen could have better cutlery and crockery . .. and The tv position is a little awkward. But it’s a quirky, friendly place and we Love it!!!

We stayed three nights at this hotel after reading through reviews on this and other properties. We chose this for the convenience of location in town similar to other reviews, but the negatives may not be quite worth the convenience.|The positives are (1) location of walkability to everything in port douglas and view of the four miles beach. Our room is coral spa suite #20, and the ocean view as well as the wave crashing sound is incredible especially the few days we stayed were windy and rustling up some palm trees. (2) the breakfast was better than expected - it is not continental or buffet, rather a la carte menu of 5-6 options. Between the two of us over three days we tried almost all items and they were well done!! Compliments to the chef a d kitchen staff. (3) the washer dryer is a plus for our long journey in Australia and the post-scuba diving laundry need.|The negatives have been reported by others - housekeeping inconsistency. For us it went beyond that. The first night we realized that pillows had this awful sweaty oily odor to them, as with the toss pillows that dressed the bed. I sprayed them with the travel size lavender spray but couldn't rid the odor. We wrapped towels around them to cope. We told Sue (manager) about this and she noted to have all pillows and inserts ans sheets changed out. It was very unpleasant after our diving trip to find nothing changed and the pillows had the lavender spray scent from last night. Shelly from front desk went to another room and got us a set of pillows. Also the coffee pods were not replenished and towels not fully replaced. It was very disappointing for us.|Another thing to keep in mind is that the property is old inside. Walking through the lobby made us wonder if we were dropped at the wrong hotel. It has a motel lobby vibe and no presence at all (for AU$500+ nightly rate). Hallways are cramped and our suite was not clean. LED bulbs of various temperature dot the suite without any thoughtfulness, some are pretty harsh 5000K lights that makes the room highly unpleasant. The tiles in the room are slippery as well. |Overall, a shock to the downside and little wonder the property doesn't show too many room pictures, as you wouldn't be coming here if you know the quality of the lodging.

Peninsula Boutique Hotel (Port Douglas)||Location -5/5. Superb. In centre, on 4 Mile beach, close to shops and bars and restaurants ||Ambience - 2/5. Small and very little feel to the place but suits a boutique ||Food - 4/5. Great food and breakfast ||Room - 2/5. Aircon didn’t work. Bathroom very dated. ||Staff - 3/5. Very friendly ||Facilities - 2/5. Pool was very small. Had a washing machine and bikes ||Overall - 3/5. Would defo recommend for location and food. Most hotels require a shuttle bus. This hotel is perfect for walks into downtown, round the headland and along the beach. Poor Air con meant room was stuffy. They said they were getting a new aircon machine. Pool is poor if you don’t like the beach

Upon arrival we received a very friendly welcome. During our stay all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly especially Sara and Shelly. We had a sea view room with a terrace. The room had a small kitchen and dining area and was very clean. We also had a huge bath and separate shower. ||Breakfast was very good and we also enjoyed Happy Hour every afternoon. The hotel supplied towels by the pool which you could also take to the beach. They also provided chairs and umbrellas to take to the beach if required. ||There were plenty of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel. We also went on several trips and were collected from the hotel - one with Sailaway Port Douglas - low isles sunset cruise and one with Tony’s Tropical Tours to Mossman Gorge and Daintree Forest.||Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff, we were sad to leave.

Google
Excellent all round. Breakfasts are a specialty. I would, however, like to order breakfast from the full breakfast menu available to walk-in customers. I am paying for a room, so I'd like to order from the full breakfast menu, not the reduced menu now put out for guests staying at the hotel. I love the pancakes & Belgian waffles & now I have to.pay extra if I want them rather than being included in the room price.

We enjoyed our stay here - the location is perfect as close to everything (beach is right across the road) and we could walk to restaurants. The staff were fantastic - very helpful and friendly and fun. And having breakfast included in the rate was a great bonus - the food was fabulous (and we are foodies from Melbourne). The only problem was the faulty fire alarm which rang twice in the middle of the night, on different nights, whilst we were there for only 6 nights. Apparently, it is regular occurrence and really needs to be fixed.

Yelp
Words from a professional traveler: (1) the daily complementary breakfast is the best I've had at any of the hundreds of resort/hotels I've been to; (2) the complementary WiFi is extremely fast; (3) there was daily maid service but they did nothing. There were multiple dirty towels that stayed on the bathroom floor for days at a time. I had to replenish towels by using pool towels. The room's tiled floors were not swept or mopped during my entire 6 day stay; (4) I booked this hotel because it had a jacuzzi, which was 7°C below average body temp. I asked the office manager to increase the heat, and was told no. What's the purpose of having a jacuzzi if it's not going to be heated? Overall, I deem the property's management to be a failure. I won't be back...

Yelp
Great place to stay all the way around! Excellent experience beginning to end. The staff was always a please to help, great facilities like a printer and laundry and no cost. Spectacular restaurant with a French chef. Great location on the beach and end of Main Street. Our balcony had views of birds and sunsets. It was great!

Location - brilliant Rooms - lovely Staff - gorgeous Kylie & Gavin - awesome Oh, & of course the best part - Adults Only - yay Peaceful, quiet, relaxing & rejuvenating- not what everyone looks for in a holiday, but when you are - this is the place & of course you have everything Port Douglas has to offer on your doorstep. Restaurants - but do try theirs HiTide too! Bars, shopping & of course that spectacular beach. This is our absolute go to place, whether it be for a long weekend or a weeks holiday, we just love it.

Yelp
Best hotel we have ever stayed in! Starting at check-in with hot face towels, a snack and drink. The hotel was amazing, clean and right on the beach. The daily breakfasts are to die for. Minutes walk to shops, restaurants and the port to catch cruises to the Great Barrier Reef. Best location, ambience and staff in Port Douglas!

Yelp
Wonderfully Australian, delightful owners, perfect location, great food and drink. The entire staff learns your name on your first day. All interested in the activities we did and what we thought of them. More than happy to setup chairs on the beach for us. We were here during a windy stretch, but listening to the ocean and wind at night really made this place a 5 Star.

Yelp
Fabulous boutique hotel in port Douglas! Accommodations were superbly comfortable, great ocean view! Has incredible location, an Easy (30 second) walk to beach and several minute walk to the heart of town. Every single staff member we encountered was friendly, engaging, and welcoming! They remember you and made sure to continually check up on the experience and events of your trip. Would highly highly recommend staying here.
