Yelp
Port Elliot bakery has the reputation of doing the best pies around, and it's well founded. Aside from the standards of meat and mushrooms and onions and kidney and tomato in various combinations, they do things with lamb and rosemary, tandoori chicken, Thai green curry and pizza that literally confuse your senses - pies just shouldn't be this good, they should have at least one unidentified and best unknown form of meat in them, and they definitely shouldn't leave you feeling you've just dined somewhere with a waiter and a slightly snobbish guy at the front door.
I should add I'm not a pie virgin that's never had a decent pie before - in fact, I was a regular at arguably the best pie shop in Australia, the Yatala Pie Shop in Queensland, so I do have a little grounding in what's a good pie - this place does a great job day in, day out, at making a spectacular range of food. On a weekend there's usually a queue, and on a long weekend in summer there'll be a long queue - but luckily they're both ready for that, and have the whole process down pat. There are plenty of sticky, sweet treats to follow up with, too.
Parking nearby can be an absolute bitch - but then parking in Port Elliot is often a pain when everyone wants to be there at once... My recommendation is to park well down the street and have a stroll down, sampling the various other lovely shops in the area too, there are wonderful crafts on display, and some eclectic little collections of 'stuff' in all those little stores along the way. Port Elliot is an experience to be savoured, just like the pies.
