Great views of shipping industry in action going in and out of the Port of Oakland from Alameda. Also worth a visit to the Hornet on Alameda.

A well run cargo container shipping terminal. Express service to unload your freighter ship. Make sure you tip your longshoreman.

If you have the opportunity to take a boat out of the channel between the Port and Alameda, there are some incredible views of the shipping boats at dock. I've attached some photos I took on a recent trip. If you appreciate the photos, please check me out on instagram @bmcsteen

Some what isolated and empty of crowds. I felt safe at all times. Just a sprinkle of homeless hugging the coast line maybe 3 tops. The area is well maintained and kept really clean and the landscape well maintained as well. There is a small tower like unit you can walk up some easy stairs too find inplace binoculars you can look over at the bay bridge and SF. What I liked about this area was that there were many benches to sit on and relax. Alot of concrete blocks to sit on and open space for some activities. Geese stay and linger around the same area they are always lingering. You can also check out the immensity of the dock. One of the biggest ports. You can observe ships being loaded with containers. A massive port Plenty of space people kept to them selves. The watchman kept to his own and didnt bother us. The day was sunny the water cold. Plenty of free parking. A plethora of buildings, history, and bay to admire. Perfect for Families and lovers. Had an excellent time.

The Port of Oakland is the most important container shipping port on the West Coast. Los Angeles and Long Beach are bigger, but without the Port of Oakland the nation's economy would suffer dearly. The Port of Oakland was home to the very first containerized shipping terminal on the west coast of the United States. The Port of Oakland is highly visible. From the San francisco-oakland Bay Bridge Trail you have an amazing view of the Oakland outer harbor. From the middle harbor Park, formerly the Oakland naval supply Center in Oakland army base, you have an amazing view of the entrance to the Oakland inner harbor. What used to be the Oakland middle harbor he is now a marine habitat. From the gravel parking lot adjacent to the former naval Air Station in Alameda, you can sit and watch container ships which are larger than skyscrapers maneuver into position alongside the dock. The main office is for the Port of Oakland are in a surprisingly nondescript building at Jack London square. If you get a chance, peer into their downstairs conference room and you'll see an interesting model vehicle which is a composite I'm an airplane and a container ship. And did I mention, the Port of Oakland is also the Oakland International airport. Those of us who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially the East Bay, deal day today with the horrible traffic on interstate 880. Much of it is created by 80 foot shipping containers on the back of semi tractor-trailers. These container trucks tear apart the highway, contribute to noise pollution, and are frankly ugly to look at. But these trucks, and the Port of Oakland, keep our nation running.

First time going through the SSA port and I admit I was unsure of the process. But the lady working the check-in booth was rude, dismissive and a real b! No wonder everyone says Oakland ports are the worst.

Yelp
I went there 2/19/05, it was a rainy day so the views weren't that great. Nice flat walk around. Go to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park on a nice, sunny day. Probably will go again because the visitor's center was closed and there's Nellie's Soulfood in Oakland that I have to check out. Nellie's Soulfood 1155 3rd St (Cross Street: Adeline St) Oakland, CA 94607 (510) 625-1350

Yelp
I am reviewing the Port of Oakland shipping dock/station, which you really can't get to unless you work there but of course you can get great views of it from the Marina, the Bay Bridge, and from several freeways that run passed it. The Port of Oakland is something that I am very proud of as a native Californian. Think about it: this port ships out cargo to the entire world and the entire world ships in cargo to the Port of Oakland. The cargo shipping bays are awesome pieces of mechanical machinery that pump round the clock. Now that's for real! That's some serious stuff! No joke, Oakland is a serious place doing some serious business but most Bay Area folks are busy focusing on problems and failing to see the wonderful beautiful things going on in Oakland, California

Yelp
Seriously never knew there was such a thing as to being physically able to walk around the port. I knew this was one of the biggest ports here in the Bay Area, but I never knew there was pedestrian access. As my boyfriend was driving over the bay bridge I was curiously on yelp looking for things to do and the port of Oakland popped up in the top 10. There's so much to admire here. It reminded me a lot of the Long Beach port down south. Definitely coming back in the future to further explore the port.

Yelp
So we were working and ended up here to get some cars to haul. I noticed a trail as we entered the area. I took it for about 10-20 minutes and stopped to look at the ships and the ocean. It was windy and cold, so I didn't stay long. But I think this place must be beautiful in the Summer.

Yelp
I bet 99% of the people who live in Oakland have never heard of Middle Harbor Shoreline Park at the Port of Oakland. Mainly because it's hidden in Oakland's busy port. The park is right between the Hanjin and Marine Ocean Teminals. It's Oakland's first public beach but you have to be a REAL MAN to swim in the frigid waters, or be a pansy and build sandcastles (guess which one I do). The park is very clean, has BBQ grills, tables, seats, restrooms, canopies, and grassy areas. You'll have an unobstructed view of the entire SF skyline as you grill your chicken wings. An amphiteater and stage is currently under construction there. Go on a weekend if you want to avoid the trucks, trains, and massive vessels bringing ocean containers from Asia. But I encourage you to go during the weekday just to see how busy and critical the port is to the city.
