Porta di Basso

"Owner-chef Domenico Cilenti offers a choice of two tasting menus: one dedicated to classic dishes that tell the story of the restaurant and the other a “blind” menu that changes daily depending on the ingredients available in the market. Whichever you choose, the cuisine served is deliberately simple and precise, allowing the full flavours of Puglia’s vibrant produce to shine through. Each dish consists of just a few ingredients arranged in a colourful and elegant presentation on ad hoc porcelain." - Michelin Inspector

I went there for a Wedding. The view is absolutely spectacular. We ate dinner at the restaurant and loved it. The service was very, very great and friendly. The food was also very thought through and delicious. You get great food with great service in a relaxing manner at stunning location. It can get quite stuffy and hot in there.

Situated on a cliff overlooking the dramatic and gorgeous Adriatic Sea, Porta Di Basso boasts a location that is nothing short of breathtaking. The panoramic vistas alone make it a destination worth visiting. However, as a Michelin-starred establishment, one naturally expects a dining experience that transcends the ordinary, a standard that, regrettably, Porta Di Basso does not fully meet. Upon entering, the ambiance, while pleasant and inviting, does not quite exude the refined elegance typically associated with Michelin-starred restaurants. The decor, though nice, leans more towards the common and simple rather than the exquisite and unique. The staff, courteous and attentive, deliver a level of service that is commendable but not remarkable, lacking the polished finesse one anticipates at this echelon. The cuisine is certainly good, with several dishes, such as the smoked Mackerel, standing out as particularly enjoyable. Nevertheless, the overall menu falls short in terms of creativity and complexity. At a Michelin-starred restaurant, diners seek more than just well-prepared food; they yearn for an innovative and memorable gastronomic journey. Here, the dishes, while satisfying, do not deliver the wow factor expected from such a prestigious establishment. Given the premium pricing, guests expect an experience that is as much about the art of dining as it is about the food itself. If the restaurant were not rated and priced at a Michelin-star level, it would undoubtedly be considered a five-star restaurant in its own right, thanks to its superb location and generally good food. In conclusion, Porta Di Basso has the potential to be a truly exceptional dining destination. By elevating the decor to match the stunning setting, refining the service to Michelin standards, and infusing the menu with greater creativity and complexity, it could fully realize its promise. For now, it remains a lovely restaurant with a magnificent view, but one that falls just short of the exceptional experience diners expect from a Michelin star.

The location with the view of the sea is amazing. The food was exquisite (simple but still creative). The service was very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere and interior were elegant and relaxing.

One of our favorite restaurants of Italy. Quality of food and taste were superb. The service was excellent too. We did the tasting menu and wine pairing, it was wonderful and worth every penny. We have the table by the window and enjoyed the amazing scenery.

Excellent service and wonderful location. Definitely good value for money. We had the chef's fish only menu which was very tasty and generous. Perhaps my expectations were a bit high so I would give it 9/10. I definitely recommend as a positive fine dining experience 😃

Yelp
Delicious, carefully crafted food, with a stunning balcony view across the Adriatic, and top service. Highly recommend taking one of the tasting menus and letting the chef do his thing. They were super considerate of gluten issues. Great experience.
