Portage Theater

A really amazing experience we had. It was our first time going to see a movie here in portage (we used to drive all the way to Madison or the Dells to see a movie) but we definitely will be ditching the overpriced theaters and going to the portage theater from now on! Really friendly staff and the seats were very comfortable.

Great place to take in a movie! Clean inviting lobby, nice staff, and the new reclining seats were extremely comfortable! The theater was just the right size so there are no bad seats, every seat has a a good view of the screen. I'll be back

Always a great choice for a movie theater! Reasonable prices, exceptionally comfortable recliner seating. Like a sporting event you pay for a specific seat, I like that as well

We are going there again, soon. Tuesday $5 tickets. Porcorn and refillable drink $10. Modern comfy seating. Small intimate theater. I believe six screens. Our new favorite place to see new movies.

Beautiful set up. Reasonable prices. Great for a random date night.

Love the price atmosphere and the workers, I drive from the west side of madison just to come here for the environment and the amazing yummy popcorn seasoning , it's a must and its so appreciated

This theater is the best! Nothing beats comfortable reclining chairs! We stopped going to the Desert Star in Lake Delton and drive to Portage now from the Baraboo area. Several of our friends are doing the same. Reasonable pricing is a bonus too!

Love the ticket prices, relevant selections of movies, and though the snacks are pricey, we know that and plan for it so we have extra money with if we want to have those too. Not any more pricey than any other theater, just something to be expected. Great comfy chairs too!

Our family loves attending $5 Tuesdays for movies together. The snack prices are decent. A lot more affordable than surrounding movie theaters. The reclining seats used to be really comfortable but have declined a lot recently. Quite a few no longer work and the fabric is peeling away. The bathrooms are pretty crummy too. They need work and some updating. Would be nice to have more than just one paper towel dispenser that actually has towels in it. The employees are always friendly. If the theater could keep up on the maintenance of the reclining seats and bathrooms, I would give this theater a 5 star rating.

The best theatre around!! Better than the other theatre in Wis Dells-the seats are so extra roomy & comfy & they recline! I could sit in these chairs all day! Snack prices are good but they do t have coke products-the only downfall. I would go here before the other theatre!

Very unassuming from the lobby but the concession prices were reasonable and the theater itself was great

If you live in or are visiting the area, this is the place to see a movie! Don't bother with the big chain theater in the Dells.

Very nice theater. They have great price points, friendly staff, updated seating, sound and the latest in projection technology.

The seats are huge and luxurious. They have several theaters and movies going at the same time. I think it may be seven. I'm not sure if every one of those theaters has the updated comfortable cushy reclining seats yet. It's almost like being right in your own living room. Too bad it costs so much to go to the movies nowadays. But even so, I really have to give this theater five stars. There is no reason to leave this small town to seek a big name theater in a big town. You can even buy a beer here.

Great theatre with awesome prices. We have a large family (4 kids), I can take the whole family to the movies and not break the bank. Concession pricing is very reasonable, about half of what Madison/Sun Prairie charges.

Great seating, great price and easy parking. Definitely more enjoyable than the amc at Kalahari.

Very nice theater. Love the reclining seats and such reasonable prices for the movies and popcorn. It's so nice that it's so close to my house too. Will definitely be revisiting over and over and over and over again.

This is a small theatre, but they say "good things come in small packages". The staff was quite friendly, and the theatre had a refreshing old school vibe. The declining seats were incredibly comfortable and spacious. It does not have stadium seating, but I didn't find that to be an issue at all as the entire screen was visible, even with other patrons in front of me. I would definitely recommend this theatre over others in the surrounding area. I made a 47 mile drive to this location and don't regret it one bit! Pleasurable experience and great prices!

All seats reclined, great snacks, and you can drink alcoholic beverages while watching the movie. Perfect place!! Nice staff too!!

Old theater with only 4 movies currently showing however currently going through renovations and comfortable lounge chairs are in the four open theaters! Reasonable prices for tickets and excellent concessions stand prices! Excellent theater with $5 Tuesday movies as well! Glad this theater is still going strong!

I love our local theater. Great picture and great sound! When ever I go to other theaters in the area I find their sound systems lacking oomph. This is a seven screen theater that is not run by one of the huge chains.

Pretty nice, just wish the seats were more stadium style and higher up otherwise very good sound and comfortable

Saw a movie after a day of skiing at Devil's Head. Loved the recliner seats! Wonderful selection at the concessions and excellent overall ambiance.

Great upgrades. Recliner seats are awesome. Would like to see more christian flicks and kid flicks offered though. Over all its a great theater

Even though I moved to rural Wisconsin just a few days before, I WAS NOT GOING TO MISS THE PREMIERE OF CAPTAIN AMERICA CIVIL WAR. No way. So I left a house full of boxes, drove down County Road F to get to Portage to this theater, which I'd only driven past a couple of times before. What a great theater! They offered a great selection of movies to choose from. There are two concession areas, one of which serves beer on weekends. The seats are nice and roomy, amply padded, and they recline a little bit. The screen was large, the sound was great, perfect environment to watch a movie. As someone new to the area I enjoyed the pre-show, a continuous loop of commercials for local businesses: bead store, taxidermist, salon, real estate agency, suicide prevention program, repeat. I would definitely recommend this theater but I can tell you that if you have to take County Road F after dark to get there, be careful because there are deer everywhere that apparently love walking back and forth across the road for no good reason.

The Portage Theatres are wonderful and have all the current films. My sister and I try to get to the theatre as often as possible and find the theatres in Portage just great. The seating is comfortable and the tickets are reasonable. We are so lucky to have such fine theatres in our area.

This theater is great. The concessions are delicious and the staff are quite polite and professional. I would like to see the seating changed though. In other theaters you can raise the arm rest and snuggle your date. C'mon Portage that seems like a must have!

We attended a "Food Pantry" showing of "Rise of the Guardians" this morning- talk about an awesome event, they even had a little Easter Hunt after the show for the kids! Picture and sound quality were great and I loved that we had chairs that reclined. My kids loved that they got to order popcorn and soda for breakfast! (The room we watched Oz 3D a couple of weeks ago in wasn't as nice I don't think- I don't remember tippy chairs, but overall it's still a very nice theatre!)

Coming from big city Milwaukee, I loved the Portage Theatre. Lounge seating like the Marcus in Milwaukee, couldn't believe. Met the owner, a very nice man - couldn't have had a better experience.

It's not a bad little theater. Three matinee tickets were $19. The snack area is small but has your standard offerings and had some special stuff for new movies that can out that day. For three medium popcorns and three medium sodas it was $25 which is a little expensive but that seems to be the case with all movies now. The picture was clear, the room was clean. I will say the stuff they had running before the movie started was super boring after seeing it like 10 times in a row. They need to change that up for sure. One thing I will say for this theater is that it was nice and loud. Recently theaters in Milwaukee seem to be so quiet. Not sure if that is due to the size or what but this was nice and loud and you didn't hear whispers or crunching candy wrappers.

It's nice to have a local theatre here. I can't complain about that. However, the owner is not a people person. She's actually pretty nasty. She's always standing behind the concessions counter eyeballing everyone with a purse, and talking loud about who has stuff in their purse. With a soda going for $4-5, I'll be bringing stuff in!

Last night my girlfriend, friend and his girlfriend all went to see Brick Mansions. We had some trash from the gas station so we brought it in to throw away. We bought our tickets and went into the lobby and threw out our trash. My girlfriend went to the bathroom and asked me to hold her purse so I did. Then I see the women behind the food counter saying something to my friends girlfriend and then she says "Hey, excuse me sir," to me, "You know there aren't any carry ins allowed right?" and I said yeah why "Well is there food in the bag" and I'm like i don't know it's my girlfriends purse. "So is that a yes then?" and I said no, my girlfriend has a purse, what are you talking about. Then the woman didn't say anything else and I found out later that she was saying to my friends girlfriend, that because we brought trash inside, we must have carried in food. Perfect logic right? (for the record we didn't have any carry ins, so good call) Doesn't end there. We're sitting in the theater waiting for the movie to start, watching previews and the lights are all on, and I see this man out of the corner of my eye scoping out my group. Then he comes up and says "Hey just so you know there aren't any carry ins" even though we weren't eating. Then we were on our phones texting because the movie HADN'T STARTED YET and the lights were still on (keep in mind there were only three other people in the theater besides us) and the man comes back and says "Hey put your phones away didn't you see the sign?" and we replied "But the movie hasn't even started yet...?" and the man says "HEY there's a big sign saying no phones (saw no such sign) and this is the second time I've had to tell you NO PHONES (it was the first time) so PUT EM AWAY!" Then he stormed off. I apologize to the other three people in the theater sitting five rows back if our phones were distracting, but the lights were still on and I have a feeling the man that was yelling at us was a bit more distracting anyways. So great job Portage Theatres, I've been a customer there since I was a kid, but that's the last time I'll pay money to be harassed and interrogated by your employees. Word of advice to you though, alienating the only demographic that keeps your nearly bankrupt theater afloat probably isn't a good business decision, but hey, what do I know. And maybe you aren't bankrupt, but having about 10 people in a theater for a movie that came out about a week ago on a Saturday night, probably means that if you aren't bankrupt but are definitely getting there. After last night though, expecting on never seeing 4 of those 10 customers ever again.
