The 38 Best Restaurants in Stockholm, Sweden | Eater

"Opened in 2015, Portal is already an institution. Chef Klas Lindberg has an impressive resume, including winning Swedish Chef of the Year in 2012 and a lengthy stint at restaurant L’Astrance in Paris. At Portal, he provides Stockholmers with popular lunches and dinners beneath huge windows. Consult the blackboard for various cuts of dry-aged beef, which are served with house fries and bearnaise butter. Or go for locally sourced vegetables, seafood, and daily rotating game meats. Chase it all down with artisan Swedish beer or a bottle from the well-curated cellar. Since 2018, guests have been able to pop next door to busy Bar Portal, which serves small plates with a longer list of wines by the glass. Snag a seat at the communal table in the back." - Per Styregård

"Portal stands out with creative cuisine and a dining room that overlooks Stockholm’s Vasastan district. Upstairs tables provide sweeping vistas, making it popular for both locals and visitors seeking a memorable meal. The schnitzel comes highly recommended." - Coolstuff Team

Fabulous food, drinks and service. We ordered a set meal with 3 courses costs around 75USD per person without drinks. It started with fish roe stew, followed by lamb and almond tart. Very nice taste and generous serving. Highly recommended if you are the neighborhood. We walked about half hour to be back to our hotel near Stockholm central station.

If you ever come near this place, run the other way. I’ve once accidentally swallowed a bug and even that tasted better than whatever we were served that day. After a long trip and walk around trying to find something eatable we came across this place, which looked nice enough. The menu was poor but we all found something that we liked out of the 4 options they had. We really should’ve left right after the passive aggressive waitress sat us down right next to the workers drilling the street. The schnitzel wasn’t terrible but whatever sauce they drowned it in was too buttery, the potatoes were uncooked and the onions were burned. How did they manage to mix up so many horribly made ingredients to make one awful meal? Pure talent. The rest of the group had the same luck with their meals. One ordered fish and it came as a sort of fried ball of mashed fish mixed with something else that we couldn’t decipher and it was too salty to even try to finish it. Maybe this is just the way Swedish people like their food, but if you’re a tourist who wants to actually eat whatever (expensive) dish you order: STAY AWAY. The passive aggressive waitress also stood next to us watching us as we paid. Seems to be the way they press you to leave a tip for their bad service.

We came here because of good reviews. Came on weekday around 6pm and was able to secure a table. But it looked quite full with people. A reservation is needed if you come in rush hours. We ordered a few dishes and everything is stellar. The fish is tender and with great flavor and the meat is savory and tasty. The servers are friendly and we truly enjoyed the food. The price is ok the higher end but it’s worth it

I’ve been coming to Portal for years and it never disappoints. The food has a Swedish simplicity yet with deep, comforting flavours. The space is beautifully designed with plenty of natural light, and the service is always spot on. A place I’d recommend any time of year. And the final touch that always makes me smile: hearing Astrid Lindgren’s voice in the bathrooms… pure childhood magic.

Among the best food I've ever tasted! Oskar is a fantastic chef and super service minded! The entire party (retirement party with colleagues) had an amazing time. Will definitely be back. Phenomenal Vegan food WITH protein is a huge plus.

What a wonderful experience we had at Portal. The chef came out and took his time explaining each dish, you can tell the passion he has for the food he makes. The service was impeccable and the food exceptional. Highly reccommend going for a lovely evening

This is a great place with outstanding, innovative food made with very, very, very carefully sourced ingredients. The food is, stylewise, a great combination of 1,5 feet in local (Scandinavian) cuisine and 0,5 foot in international influenced cooking. Great wine list and plenty of hand crafted beers to chose from. Great atmosphere and very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

We had a fantastic dinner here - one of the rare places where every dish we had was absolutely delicious. Standouts would be the hash, beef tartare and the pork schnitzel - unlike any schnitzel I've had before - with toppings and bursting with flavour. Each dish was a wonderful balance of contrasting flavours and textures. Highly recommend
