The Best Tea Shops in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"What was once known as Tea Chai Té is now Portal Tea Company, though not much else has changed. It’s hard to top the cozy charm of the original Nob Hill location inside an organically labyrinthine Victorian house, but the Sellwood location — built in and around an honest-to-goodness railroad caboose — just might do it. Year-round Christmas lights and a few of grandma’s couches amplify the ramshackle charm, but the tea selection is anything but shallow. Portal steeps and pours more than 100 teas, from well-known Chinese and Japanese green teas to the harder-to-find Amazonian guayusa leaf tea." - Nathan Williams

The perfect atmosphere for a nice cup of tea and a great conversation. There are journals on every table that have random drawings, questions, quotes, lists, and ideas that are super fun to flip through and add to. The vibe is great and I felt so calm. You also get so much bang for your buck! I spent less than $10 for so. much. tea. There is a vast variety of tea choices and it leaves you wanting to come back and try them all.

If only most cafes could be fraction as charming as this one the world would be a much cozier place. The couches are welcoming, there are plenty of tables, the tea is excellent, the open hours are long. There are so many cute little things for sale to take home. Even art for sale on the walls if you’re so inclined. This is my favorite cafe in the whole world.

Went here with a friend per their request, and I was pretty impressed! It was my first time ever visiting a teahouse (despite the fact I drink tea almost daily), and I was in heaven looking at their menu, if not slightly overwhelmed. The interior was so cozy, seating aplenty yet private feeling. Sadly it was too cold to enjoy the balcony, but I imagine it's lovely! I tried their lavender Earl Grey (E.G. is my favorite) and it was divine. The milk and sweetner they added were perfectly portioned. I was hoping to try their chai, but it just gives me a reason to come back!

This is nice hiden shop on second floor in perl district area . Nice ambience and good options for variety of team. We tried masla chai and it was good. They should add Samosa in menu .

This cozy tea bar on the second floor is a great spot to relax. The surrounding neighborhood is full of interesting shops, adding to the experience. The tea bar itself has multiple rooms, providing a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The staff are super friendly. We tried the oolong tea which was okay, though we would have preferred a bit more sweetness. They also have drinks for kids without caffeine. They can pick from a variety of flavors and toppings. They really enjoyed their choices and drinks. Overall, it's a pleasant place to visit, especially with kids.

Amazing lavender milk tea! 🧋 bubbles were chewy yet tender! Average price at $6-7. Give it a try when you’re here. (May 18, 2025)

If you're looking for a brewtiful tea experience, Portal Tea is the place to be. They carry over 100 distinct varieties, their selection is nothing short of steeped in quality. I've never been disappointed with the leaves I've chosen. A couple of my personal favorites include #111 Sticky Rice Puer, which boasts a warm, comforting rice aroma so distinct even a four year old could pick it out. The scent carries beautifully into the flavor, making for a comforting cup. Another standout is #68 Silver Needles Yinzhen, a delicate white tea with floral and grassy notes, accented by a hint of honey-like sweetness. While brewing inconsistencies happen from time to time, occasionally resulting in a bitter undertone, the staff is always quick to make it right. I've never had an employee turn down a polite request for a fresh pot. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction keeps me coming back. If you're a tea lover, Portal Tea is a must visit. You're bound to find something that suits your taste to a tea.

One of our teas was solid but the chai tea #19 was not good. No flavor. Felt like a warm cup of milk with a dash of chai sprinkled into it. Idk. I get chai because it’s typically full of flavor. Will try something else next time.
