"Founded in 2014 to serve the South Side Irish community, Porter Cullens’s offers a global menu with plenty of Emerald Island nods, including house-braised corned beef sandwich, fish and chips, and shepherd’s pie. Pair with perfectly poured pint of Guinness, praised by actual members of the Guinness family." - Sam Nelson

Yelp
We love this place! The food is good but the atmosphere is better. The patio is nice now that the weather is warm. They rotate their menu regularly so there's always something new and everyone is kind. Great neighborhood bar/restaurant.

Yelp
Porter Cullens has long been a favorite local pub to drop into whenever on the south side - great food and drinks, friendly atmosphere, terrific service - plus you're always bound to run into regulars and people you know. I want to extend a special thank you to everyone at PC's for the hospitality and service they provided when hosting a dear friend's birthday party last Friday. Everyone loved the food and beverages, but even more PC's provided the perfect comfortable and friendly setting for all to enjoy themselves and each other's company. You all are truly the best! Always looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
My mom and I went down to Mt. Greenwood to meet my friends for lunch whilst they were at work, and Porter Cullens is only about five minutes from their workplace. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and near StX, Mother McCauley, etc. But because of it's location, parking here can be really difficult since the neighborhood parking is not for restaurant patrons. They have a some diagonal parking on the street. They have some outdoor seating, about five tables. When we were here it was warm and humid so we sat inside. One of the servers was pretty friendly, but the one who took our orders doesn't seem to have much patience and seemed somewhat annoyed. Attention was lacking; I got one refill on my water during the hour plus that we were there. However, the food was good. My friend got the Irish egg rolls, which are apparently corned beef and sauerkraut in egg roll form. Served with Italian dressing, it's almost like a reuben egg roll but I don't think there's cheese in them. I'd get those next time I was there, or the corned beef sandwich. I got a turkey club which was yummy and big--I brought half of it home and also had to unhinge my jaw to eat it. The other two in our party go the sliders. One ordered them as described in the menu, and the other just got three of the same type (apparently you can do that but they can only be either as stated on the menu OR all one type of slider). I well may visit here again since I have friends who lie and work nearby. But the service kinda left a bad taste in my mouth to be honest, so unless I was really craving the Irish egg rolls I might find another place to try nearby.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Porter Cullens Irish Pub and I must say it was a delightful experience. From the moment I entered, I was greeted with warm and friendly service that made me feel right at home. I decided to try the nachos with steak, Irish egg rolls, and buffalo chicken sandwich, and I was not disappointed. The steak nachos were loaded with tender and flavorful strips of steak and a generous serving of toppings. I was told the making the chips fresh in house. The Irish egg rolls were a unique twist on a classic appetizer. Open face egg roll filled corned beef, cabbage, and cheese. It was so delicious. The staff were very attentive, and friendly making for a pleasant dining atmosphere. I loved the decor very modern and inviting. I highly recommend a visit to Porter Cullens for a great meal and fantastic service.

Yelp
Tucked in the neighborhood it's a nice little place to go. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and welcoming. My sandwich was a meat lovers fantasy. It was called Cullens Cure on pretzels roll. They made my wife a Ruben that wasn't on the menu. That was very good as well.

Yelp
Loved the aesthetic of this south side restaurant and service was prompt and kind. Manager checking in along the way. Food unfortunately was very salty -- Shepard's pie and Fish and Chips. Drinks were very good especially the chai martini.

Yelp
This place is truly a gem! Definitely all locals, Even had the local school game on.. which I thought was super awesome! But we came in on a Friday night and it was pretty packed. Thankfully we were seated right away. Started off with the apple cider Sangria to drink, which was very tasty and the steak crostini and that was absolutely awesome. Crunchy toast with steak and mushrooms topped with arugula. I ordered the Shepards pie and I wasn't disappointed! Huge portion, great flavor. My wife ordered the fish tacos and these were some of the biggest fish tacos I've ever seen. Needless to say we definitely had some left overs. I dunno why it took us so long to give this place a try.

Yelp
Under new ownership. Met the owner. Very pleasant and attentive. Menu selections were unique. Service was great. I will be back for sure.

Yelp
Irish bar located in a neighborhood surrounded by homes. Nice outdoor patio eating area. Had 2 fresh Gumball Head beers and the fish and chips. Fish fresh and battered and tasty. Fries could have been crispier but they were fine. Waitress was great and prices were what i would expect in Chicago. Good place to go before, between or after games at Brother Rice. Walking distance from School.

Karen B.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and ordered the Irish Shepherd's Pie assuming it would be a good choice for an Irish pub. My assumption was spot on! The portion was large and it is definitely homemade, no instant potatoes or caned sauce. The light sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top was a nice additional layer of flavor. The beef, peas, carrots and sauce was very tasty. You'll need a to go box! My friend had the house oven-roasted turkey club. Delicious thick sliced turkey and just the right amount of bacon. This is a very good neighborhood restaurant and I encourage you to give them a try.

Yelp
Can't say enough about our lunch experience today at Porter Cullens. The restaurant is decorated for Christmas and it looks great! Cozy atmosphere, great drinks and delicious food. New owner has done a great job of improving all aspects of the business. Will return!

Sandi B.

Yelp
Delicious food and service. The owner and staff are very pleasant. Great atmosphere! Food was outstanding

Andy P.

Yelp
This place was great. We had dinner and drinks. Food and service was enjoyed by our whole group.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Cute little place in the middle of a neighborhood! We went as a family at lunch on a Saturday. No wait and very clean. Staff was attentive and made excellent food recommendations! Husband had the fish and chips and they were so good! I have a club sandwich and kids had chicken tenders and pizza. Soup-OMG the chicken pot pie soup was soo goood! Will be back for that! Overall though it was really expensive for a lunch. And we didn't even have alcoholic drinks. But the food and service and cute vibe will bring me back!

Chris J.

Yelp
I love this place but...why the continued 'convenience fee' tacked on every check? It's so small but so annoying. I'd rather be charged for water or napkins than to have an obscure and random charge that has no explanation added to my bill. What's the convenience? Certainly not the parking. I don't know of any other restaurants that charge this. It just reminds me that there are other restaurants in the neighborhood.

Joyce M.

Yelp
I have passed this place many times and decided today I would stop in for lunch. I should have went elsewhere! They overcharged me! (a "Black tax" I believe). I did read a review that said the restaurant was not "minority-friendly" and that was the vibe I got! I ordered the fish and chips and the price on the menu was $13. When my bill came the fish and chips showed $15. When I questioned the waitress about it she claimed it was due to a price increase and that the menus had not been updated yet. Bullcrap! In addition I order Malbec wine that was $7 on the menu but $8 on my bill. I won't mention the fact that service was slow and the food was just mediocre. Don't waste your time or money patronizing this place!!!

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Really fun spot with great food, service, & atmosphere. Irish egg rolls are a must try!

Susan C.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful staff, owner very involved - checked on us regularly. Tasty food, ample portions, yummy drinks. First time visiting but will definitely be back. Breakfast coming July 8 - can't wait. Make sure you support this restaurant.

Joe R.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years with my Brother Rice HS Alumni buddies for football games. They always have a great drink menu, and awesome food. Love this place.

Angelica D.

Yelp
Best corned beef sandwiches in the city & on the south side. Charming ambiance & well operated. We love this place!

Mike G.

Yelp
Solid little restaurant in Evergreen Park. I came here with my parents for dinner one night and had a good burger. My parents both had salads which looked great and they both enjoyed. Parking can be a little tricky here but if you can find a spot, make sure to give Porter Cullens a try!

Sheila M.

Yelp
Food okay - way too pricy for lunch. Price on menu does. it match price when paid.

Kevin G.

Yelp
Alright so this is a little gem in the middle of Evergreen Park which you can absolutely not go wrong with at all. One the wait staff and owners are all really nice people and every time I have stepped I to this place the staff had been very nice and always checking up. Now the menu I like this place because the food is a bit different compared to other places In the area. You can tell they care about presentation and the quality of what is coming out of the kitchen. I do like how they have the option of outside seating and inside they do have a nice bar area that is unique. From the burgers to the apps and salads they have a good variety. The Cornbeef egg roles are absolutely amazing and big! I would highly suggest this place to anyone to try. You will not be disappointed at all

Michael C.

Yelp
We stumbled across this neighborhood place looking for a bit to eat and a pint after some errands in the neighborhood. The pint was a good pour. Our server was friendly and attentive and the food arrived timely. Solid start in my mind. I had the Irish Egg (their version of what I always though was a Scotch Egg). It hit the spot! My wife had Corned beef sandwich and enjoyed it (and she's a self-professed "corned beef snob"). Overall a nice experience for a quick outdoor dinner on a great June evening. Thanks folks.

Emily R.

Yelp
The corn beef sandwich was absolutely amazing! It was fresh and the marble rye is great. It was my first time here on May 17 and service was awful! Our server had no personality and rarely checked on us. She had an attitude when I asked her what kind of cheese they had. Really? It's a simple question. I work in the service industry and I would never act condescending to a customer, especially regarding a simple question. I had to keep three completely empty water glasses on the edge of the table in order for her to come fill them. She still took over ten minutes. I had tried to previously get her attention to no avail. She had no trouble tending to the tables that were consuming copious amounts of alcohol, though. Again, the food was absolutely amazing but I was more than dissatisfied with the service. If I go back, I will be sure to not have the same waitress.

Heather L.

Yelp
Finally had a day off and it was perfect to enjoy the patio and a gin and tonic. The menu is definitely a few notices above your standard bar fare. Very good!!

Janet K.

Yelp
I met a friend there we enjoyed our food. The coffee and iced tea were very good. The homemade vegetable soup was excellent.

Julia B.

Yelp
Love this place! They have the best mixed drinks & great food! We're here like every week!

Katie A.

Yelp
We had the Whiskey BBQ wings and the corned beef sandwich..... wings were delicious and sandwich was one of the best I've had in a long time. Definitely got new repeat customers today!

Natalie W.

Yelp
I gave this place an extra star based on our bartender. Came in here on a Sunday night, wasn't busy at all. The place is small but decorated beautifully. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar where we were greeted by a long blonde haired woman. She was delightful, very attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. The drinks were good. They have "beer mixology," with most mixes containing Cispin Cider. It was interesting and wasn't bad. We only had two appetizers not great but not bad. The flatbread could have been cooked longer.

Kayleen Y.

Yelp
We came in here earlier this evening. The place was not very busy and we we're quickly greeted and sat. We each ordered a drink and decided to try the Irish Egg. My mule was good which is why 2 stars. The egg was small for an $11 appitizer with 6ish wilted spring green leaves in the middle. While the cook on the panko was perfect, the sausage had no flavor whatsoever. We decided after the app to leave and get entrees elsewhere. May be great to stop in for a drink but that's it.

g j.

Yelp
Stopped in for burgers and beer. The service was decent. The blue cheese bacon burgers were good but the fries were not crisp but limp. The chicken and sautéed vegetables were good. Prices were a bit high along with the service fee secretly added to bill. That is entirely unnecessary and I won't be returning any time soon. Too many other Irish burger bars to visit that don't swindle customers.

Christopher N.

Yelp
The novelty of Porter Cullens is that it is smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood. It is a great Irish pub. The interior theming is perfect. They have all the Irish beers you could want and is a great place to come watch soccer with a guiness! The food is good and the Irish food is great! Other non-Irish food items are just ok. I have had issues with stale buns and overcooked burgers but overall the food experience has been ok. Portions are a bit on the small side for the price. Parking can be tight but they have valet which is nice.

Yelp
We were a party of 6 plus a one year old, arriving at 6:48 p on a July Wednesday evening. We arrived at different times- my daughter in law and I walked over so we got there first. The hostess talked solely to my daughter in law- I am late 50s. She wouldn't even make eye contact with me. We got a table immediately. Our server was training a new server. We ordered our drinks and got them quickly. Our server didn't return to take our food order. I asked the hostess to find our server. Our baby was really hungry and we were taking turns taking him outside just to keep him consoled. We ordered our food. It was over an hour after we arrived and our food hadn't arrived. I reached out to the owner, told her how long we had waited. She went into the kitchen, and came out and told us that it had been just 20 mins since we put our order in. I explained the above. Our food came out, except the baby's... his came out last. We were feeding him our food. The food was ok. My limes were completely dry, but the server got me fresh ones. The place is noisy. Poor service, adequate food. Too bad, as it's in my neighborhood.

Dee N.

Yelp
This is my new favorite bar. I have been here a few times over the last couple of years, and I'm always impressed. Great food, great drinks, lovely staff and relaxing atmosphere. I love how clean and organized it is. Really enjoy our time whenever we stop by.

Robert N.

Yelp
This place is a glorified dive bar with trying to be gastro pub. The food is ok but nothing to come back for. The design is nice but they really need to focus on what will get people to come back the meal.

Tiffany T.

Yelp
The jalapeño margarita is perfect!!! The set up inside and comfortable seating in bar area make this a great post-work location or just one to catch up over drinks. There was a cocktail which mixed Pinot Grigio with the cocktail but it tasted more watered down that flavorful. Many other menu items I hope to travel.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
I took my 5 year old granddaughter to Porter Cullen's for her 5th birthday. The staff was welcoming and celebrated wonderfully so. We had grill cheese, fries, kitty cocktail and an outstanding salad with shrimp and avocados! They brought out Chocolate cake, whip creme, cherries and candles on top. All the staff sang happy birthday! Carly our waitress was darling! Support your local establishments! We are blessed to have them. Thanks Carly.

Gofran M.

Yelp
Delicious corned beef hash and beer flight. Perfect Irish experience for this southsider. Standard menu otherwise.

Paxy D.

Yelp
I want to love this neighborhood place so bad. It had all the makings of a great local spot for a weekly meal/watering hole. BUT the service is just so bad, I can't get behind it. Here 3 x with different folks, so I gave it a real college try. The good: food is legit. Plenty of great drink options. Everything we had was yum! Family friendly: we have a baby. Local small biz you want to support. Never a wait to get seated. The bad: no changing table in the bathroom and pedestal sink, had to put the baby on the FLOOR. so not THAT family friendly, I guess. No "seat yourself" signs or designated greeter/host The ugly: the service. Staff was inattentive and slow. Every. Single. time. First time, I waited at the door for 5 minutes not knowing you can seat yourself until the next customers came in. Then I waited at the table 10 minutes for acknowledgement. Third time, Coffee is cold, got my own cream, got my own utensils, used a fork to stir it, couldn't get a glass of water, every time there's at least 10 minutes to get the bill after the table was cleared. The list goes on. Please fix this and you will be a local fave.

Yelp
Everything is good at Porter Cullens especially the Irish food and in the winter the Chili is great and they have a wonderful staff

Nina o.

Yelp
I love this place! The menu, speciality drinks, good servers, cooks and management! Amazing! South side love here! Many options, give it a go!

Jeff E.

Yelp
Went here the other night after months of anticipation of awaiting its opening. Well, I am very happy to say that it was well worth the wait! This is not your typical south side Irish pub with dark interiors and questionable food. On the contrary, Porter Cullens has a modern and fresh interior appointed with comfortable furnishings and an attention to detail. My wife really liked the old fashioned light bulbs and the beautiful marble bar. We had viewed the menu online, so we had already made up our minds on what we would eat. We started our meal with the vegetarian crostini with portabello mushrooms and fresh motz. It tasted fantastic and paired well with Leinenkugel's cranberry ginger shandy. This place has a great selection of craft beers and favorites such as Guinness and Stella on tap. For our main courses, my wife had the Guinness braised short rib stew and I had the brown sugar bacon blue cheese burger with a pint of One Trick Pony: Spotted Saddle. The burger was beyond belief! So flavorful! The Guinness stew was amazing as well. I could barely get my wife to let me taste it because she was so enamored with it. Rich and savory, it was the perfect choice for a cold Friday night. We really can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu, especially the muscles with Harp cream sauce and the fish and chips. If you are looking for great dining experience or a place to have a pint with friends, Porter Cullens offers an experience in the same vein of the Gastropubs of Dublin and London. Including a unique menu, clean interior design and an amazing staff! Definitely visit if you are on the south side.

Yelp
Me and my fiance stopped in on Sunday around 3.00 P.M. for an early dinner. Waitress / hostess greeted us when we walked in and told us to sit anywhere. They had roughly 20-30 people in the restaurant including the bar. We sat and waited for 20 minutes and nobody came to our table. Not even a water. After 15 minutes a waitress stopped by a table 2 away from us to check on a customer. She looked at us and we assumed she would come over. After she was done with the customer she left. We figured she'd be right back but after 5 more minutes we just left. You need to realize this place was dead and it is extremely tiny in size. It is impossible to miss us. I do not care how good the food is, nobody deserves to be treated like that.

Rick Z.

Yelp
It's ok. Small place, waitresses seemed like they were scrambling with essentially one table inside and 3 outside. Irish Egg Rolls were good, the corned beef was good but the buffalo chicken wrap was strange in flavor. Even pulling the chicken out and only eating that, just a strange unappetizing taste. I didn't drink any beer today but there were no good craft options. Nice place, I'm sure some of the other food choices are as good as the corned beef as they sounded appetizing on the menu.

Samantha B.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday evening for dinner and were the only customers sitting at the bar. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful and modern. Ordered the blackened steak crostini's and corn beef sandwich which were both absolutely delicious. Beer is reasonably priced and I would recommend the cucumber mule. Would have given this place a 5 star but the service at the bar was lacking a little. After our appetizer we had to ask the bus boy to grab us new plates, condiments, napkins, etc. because the bartender was busy making drinks for the servers. All and all, I highly recommend this place!

Loretto C.

Yelp
Great food! Great people! Great service! What else can I say about this unique gem, snuggled in the heart of Evergreen Park, adjacent Mt. Greenwood. Love the ambience of the fireplace with friends on a snowy day. Just LOVE this place

Patti A.

Yelp
Nice!!! We came in here the Saturday of parade weekend. We didn't have a reservation "they fit us in". There were a ton of empty tables, that must have been reservations that filled in as we sat there. Having been in the business, I felt they were understaffed on what is surely a busy weekend. With that said, our waitress was adorable, and did her best to be attentive. The beer was cold, we both had the fish and chips, and thought it was fantastic. I had chicken tortilla soup, it was hot (temperature wise) which was nice on a cold afternoon, and tasty. The atmosphere was too loud, not in an energetic way, but rather a banging pots annoying way. The waiter was really sweet, and the food was good, enough for me to want to come visit again. It is nice to have a decent restaurant in our southside food desert.

Sean L.

Yelp
This review is based on lunch with my wife and kids. The service was good. The environment was good. The food was good. The prices were a bit high. Higher than what the food warranted. The kids menu was 6.50 a meal no drink. My children got kid size sodas that were 2.50. So, 9.00 for a very basic grilled cheese, fries and pop. There's no protein in there. What warrants 9.00 for a kids meal? Price gouge much? I had the fish and chips, 14.00. For that I got three medium size fish pieces. They were good, but I feel like there should have been four pieces at that price point. 2.50 for soda. So 10.00 for four sodas. For pop. Seriously? The food was good, albeit a tad on the salty side. This place might be good for a local night out. But I live blocks away. And I might frequent this place often, if the prices were more reasonable. This place is serving pub food at steak house prices. Doesn't match up. Too bad. I don't plan on coming back with my family for sure. Maybe a few drink with the wife, but that's it.

Bryan R.

Yelp
The food here is good. I've been here a few times and each time I've enjoyed the meal. The problem is the amount of time you have to wait for the food. I've been here with my kids two times and there won't be a third. It shouldn't take over 40 mins to get the kids meal chicken tenders and fries to the table. Even if they get the food out to the kids first I can wait for mine but it happened twice now that my 3 year old is asking where the food is. If the wait time sticks out to a 3 year old then there's something wrong. The wait staff and manager are really nice and apologetic but the issue doesn't seem to be getting corrected. I would go back to this place again if I was just with my wife or friends and had time to hang out but I can't bring the kids back.
