"Chef Joey Riley’s Brookhaven bistro and bar, Kaleidoscope, opened 14 years ago in 2010. On April 29, the bar will serve the last of its patrons. KPub, as it was known, has served many a beers on tap with pimento cheeseburgers. In a tribute instagram post, Riley says, “It’s never easy to say goodbye, so let’s at least make it fun,” Riley says in a tribute Instagram post. “We’ll toast you with loads of sudsy pints, share favorite memories and meals, and exchange hugs that will last long enough to make us all cry!”" - Henna Bakshi

We always have a good time at Porterhouse! The service is exceptional, and the bartenders are not only attentive but also incredibly friendly and entertaining. They make the whole experience enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun night out with great drinks and a lively atmosphere.

I had hoped with the new ownership and new naming we’d return back to the great days of Kaleidoscope. But that’s not the case. We spent over a hour there and I don’t think I enjoyed a single aspect of it other than the french fries being fried well. There’s no host so we waited about two minutes to get seated. The server who sat us was the only one on the floor, and, as we found out later on, was on his first day ever here (I wonder if he had any training at all). Given that it was his first day ever, I can’t blame him for how bad the service was, that falls on the owner/manager. We waited at least 30 mins just to get our bill after finishing our meal. In that 30 mins, I watched a table of 4 get up and leave because they waited for so long just to get water. The food was mediocre at best. The bacon cheeseburger was more of a buffalo sauce and cheese sandwich with some very dry beef mixed in. The fries were fried well, but drenched in salt so much that I can still taste it in my mouth 30 mins later. I hope it changes, but so far “Ace’s Place” isn’t worth trying aside from what seemed like cheap beer prices (4$ for a Mich Ultra). Also, wanted to add, the water tasted like metal.

I can’t recommend this place enough. This was always one of our favorite restaurants/bars when we lived in north Atlanta. The food is delicious and the bar is bountiful. Ask for “the Deuce” when ordering a drink. He is the greatest bartender that ever lived. There’s not even a close second. Beyond the great bartender, this place has an award winning delicious burger, bottomless mimosas on the weekend, and is a just great spot for watching sports. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. There is parking behind the building. My minimal pictures don’t do it justice.

I went to this restaurant yesterday with my friends. When we got seated, they table was covered in crumbs and was stick. My friend ended up cleaning it up. Next we ordered our drinks and there was no refills. We were waiting for over half an hour to order our food. We ordered a molten lava cake. We waited an another half hour for our food. In a matter of ten minutes we saw that our food was done at the kitchen. After about an half an hour later we got up and went to the kitchen and asked for our food. We also did not get silverware, so we had to ask for it as well. We also had to ask for the check. After we left, we called to speak with the manager we got told he was on break even after we waited for another hour to call again. I will never go here again on account for the horrible service and disrespect toward me and my friends.

This place is absolutely awesome I visited them about a week ago during their Sunday brunch. They offered $20 Bottomless mimosas and the outdoor patio was a great place to enjoy any meal any time of day. We had an epic time on the patio was filled with high energy. We were there celebrating a birthday and when we sang Happy Birthday or celebrated other tables started singing with us and started chanting with us. So we did the same to the other parties and it was sooo fun. The menu items were priced very reasonably and did I say the mimosas were off the chain? They were. I ordered a tuna Tatar and it was unbelievably amazing and I don't even eat raw fish. I also had a taste of a chicken taco that was amazing. I highly recommend this place for great food and a great time.

Nice place for lunch. Food and staff were very good. Unfortunately they only served craft beers with no major brands… for those who are not familiar with the many craft breweries. We also were seated on a rear table, right next to the kitchen which was unfortunate. Our adjacent table also had chairs added at the end, that made it quite tight. We had burgers, a chicken sandwich and Cobb Salad. Parking available behind the shops.

Arrived on a Saturday evening and just a few people around. Was ushered to an outdoor table at our request and the staff greeted us quickly and pleasantly. The waitress brought our drinks quickly and the food was served promptly but the Caesar salad I ordered was made with boiled tasteless chicken and the salad was overall very boring. My dinner date liked her meal but she didn’t like the sight of two cockroaches circling around our table on the concrete patio. Can’t recommend eating here and won’t be back. The ATL has too many other choices that don’t serve drab and boring salads.

I hadn't tried Porterhouse yet but live very close, but my mom and I tried to go in for dinner last night to give it a shot. We were immediately seated by the hostess- and there was only 1 other table of people in the restaurant and a few people at the bar. We sat there for 30 MINUTES waiting for someone, anyone to come talk to us, take a drink order, etc. Finally at the 30 min mark we just got up and walked out because despite there only being one other table no one came over to talk to us at any point. We will not be going back. So disappointing because the location is great and my family loved Kaleidoscope.

Yelp
Food: 8.5/10 Service:10/10 Ambiance:8.5/10 Great neighborhood spot in Brookhaven. FYI: if you make a reservation on Yelp, you may not have a reservation listed on their books. They advised me upon arrival that they do not use Yelp reservations and it's best to either call or use their site. -watermelon margarita is on point! -buffalo wrap is really good!

Yelp
This place took over for the very successful for over a decade Kaleidoscope. It's a great location in the heart of Brookhaven. Parking can be a little tricky up front, but there is a large lot around the back. It looks like they didn't really change the interior at all. Maybe a fresh coat of paint. The service is sub par in every aspect. From entering to the bar to the table service. It's trying to be a casual place with premium food, but fails in so many ways. You pay a premium price for sub par food. It just doesn't fit. So many people wanted this place to be a good successor to Kaleidoscope. After a failed initial opening due to violations, and not offering a solid meal at a solid price, Brookhaven is left to wait until this place fails and maybe something better comes along. Lastly, the owner of this place thinks it's appropriate to make posts on social media bashing former ownership and preaching some holier than thou business philosophy. It's just weird honestly. Don't give this guy your money. He has no class.

Yelp
This place is newish. This has been a local bar for years but it is under new management with new style and new menu. I like this establishment. The staff are nice and the vibe is chill. They are still trying to hire enough staff to handle the crowds. Have patience. I sat at the bar both visits and had a good time. Plenty of TVs and I had a good time. Second visit they were doing Trivia night (Tuesday). I tried the $3 draft beer which was not a light beer. It was an IPA that was full of flavor and quite refreshing. The beer was only $3 because it was not selling and they wanted to get it out. Friday and Saturdays are $1 wings (minimum 8). I got the buffalo lemon pepper wings. You cannot see the lemon pepper seasoning but the wings taste extremely good and are the right level of crispy. I got the ribeye covered in blue cheese butter with fries and brussel sprouts. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and is a good steak. The fries are decent. The brussel sprouts are good. I got the Black and Blue burger. They forgot the bacon but brought it out to me quickly. The sweet potato waffle fries are some the best I have ever had. They sprinkle some type of powdered sugar on them. I will come back for the fries alone.

Yelp
I gave them 3 shots over a couple months, and I won't be going back. The food was pretty good, but the service was atrocious. When we sat outside it took 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged, and the service for the rest of the meal was incredibly slow. When we sat at the bar on a different night, the bartender seemed annoyed that we were there. The menu options and vibe are just very weird (one time there was DJ playing to any empty restaurant on a Tuesday night at 9:30). It's like the place doesn't know what it wants to be. We loved Kaleidoscope, and this is a prime spot, so it's a shame we didn't get something better.

Yelp
Place is in the prime location in Brookhaven ... and everything about it is awful. Way overpriced menu, check. Bland, mushy food, check. Slow, inattentive servers, check. Sports bar ambiance with baby TVs, check. Won't be going back until they are a new establishment that better fits the neighborhood.

Kate M.

Yelp
We always have the best experience at Porterhouse. Love the wide variety of menu options and everything we've tried is SOOO good. Always great service from Brittany and a great place to watch a game.

Yelp
I joined a dozen friends last night for dinner at PorterHouse Grill and Pub on Dresden. We had a wide variety of menu items and everybody agreed the food was fantastic . Our server Kenzie really showed up strong to make sure we were taken care of and they had a Tuesday trivia night with "DJ Ace" and he was awesome. Turned a great dinner into a fun party. Hope to make this our regular Tuesday night spot.

Yelp
Slow as molasses service (if anyone even acknowledges you), crappy, overpriced food. Definitely pick somewhere else in Brookhaven. This place really took a turn for the worse. I miss Kaleidoscope.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and really hoped for them to have success after losing Kaleidoscope but now after 4 attempts spread out over several months, we won't waste another night out eating here. The food has been bad every time. We initially blamed it on being new and working out the menu but tonight a simple buffalo chicken wrap was messed up twice. I ordered without tomato and of course came with them. Probably should have just dealt with it...but I just really don't like the taste. The second one was just gross. Not fried chicken (or if it was it was unrecognizable) and just drowned in so much sauce it was falling apart when you picked it up. Fries were good at least. The servers are nice and try hard but spread too thin. Left empty plates and cups on the table for the duration of the visit. We gave it time and numerous chances. Absolutely would not recommend.

Yelp
I used to go to this restaurant when it was kaleidoscope and I was skeptical of the new porterhouse as the location in Athens, GA is known as an expensive steakhouse. I was very happy to see the menu was still very similar to a sports bar, but it does have some nicer items. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our food and drinks and will be going again. The $1 wings are Friday and Saturday is a fantastic deal!

Jeff M.

Yelp
Won't go back. Saw a bartender berate a customer for closing out his tab and later ordering another drink. Was a mid-understanding, no doubt, but poor service standards.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Greasy and disgusting. I would say "drink only," but the draft beer taps weren't working. You're better off picking up a six-pack and hitting the drive-thru at McDonalds.

Daryl E.

Yelp
Love this place! My wife and I have been here 3 times now--and will be back. Casual. Lots of TV's. Great deck (pet friendly. Well established place in Athens, GA and hope this outpost does well The food is really good and varies from sandwiches, salads, pizza, wings and steaks. We're working our way through the menu. Service has been good all three visits. Great games on the TV's. The name may make you think it's a steakhouse. They have steaks, but my advice is to frame it up as a something between great sports bar and casual steak place --and you'll be pleased. Great place!!

DeShawn W.

Yelp
Upon my first visit this seems like a solid place to hang out and watch games. I had the $1 wings that they serve on Friday & Saturday. They definitely were good and did the job. My gf had the lemon drop martini & said it was better than your average martini. The service was good as well. I think this will end up being a solid addition to Dresden Drive.

Dennis C.

Yelp
This place is just awful. Nothing else to really say. Yes, it is that bad. Since yelp makes me have a minimum length I will just repeat that it is that bad.

Yelp
Went for my 2nd visit and after a rocky 1st time I was impressed. I was a regular at KPub and frankly a little disappointed with Porterhouse a few weeks after opening. Now they seemed to have worked out a lot of service issues and the food, including wings and burgers are very good The calamari appetizer was excellent. KPub was a neighborhood stable and I hope locals give this place a chance.

Giorgio R.

Yelp
Just awful. Bring back kaleidoscope. Weird vibe. It's a bar but they took out the TVs? Food was mid. Service was subpar even though there was nobody there. For the cost of rent here, can't see it lasting more than a year.

Janet M.

Yelp
Long overdue review but I'm glad I waited! A good friend treated my 93 y/o mom and I to a birthday lunch here a few weeks ago; everything about the experience was wonderful. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and personable. Even better, however, was that my mom revisited the restaurant today and they remembered her. To me, food is secondary to atmosphere and good service. When you find a place that excels at both you should put it at the top of your 'go to' list. Thank you, Porterhouse Grill- we'll be back soon!
