My husband LOVES Portillo's, a place we first discovered on a trip to Chicago years ago. He's so in love with their sausages that I swear he'd divorce me if it was legal to marry a sausage, LOL! When we were staying in the Glendale area, he saw an UberEats driver in the lobby holding a Portillo's sack. This caused great celebration, and he was instantly online looking for the local location! It was only an 8 minute drive, so we went there for an early lunch on a Sunday.
It wasn't crowded yet when we arrived, and we were so happy to see a large, semi-heated outdoor patio with lots of tables. Eating outside is all we'll do because of the pandemic (it's so much safer), and it was nice to be able to dine in.
We ordered two Maxwell Street Polish sausages (hubby's favorite), an Italian Beef Classic in a bowl (low carb), a small fry to share, and two large drinks. I added sweet peppers and cheese to my bowl, and both cost extra -- for a miniscule portion of each. I had like two slivers of green peppers and a small bit of mozzarella cheese, and when you have to pay extra for toppings, I expect a fair portion.
My beef bowl was just okay. Not only was the portion size small, but it was very salty and swimming in au jus, which normally would be welcomed because it would soak into the bread. But since I am trying to cut out carbs (shhh about the fries, okay?), it felt very unappetizing and was messy.
The best part of my meal of course were the fries! They tasted like they're fried in beef fat, which makes them soooo good. Hubby loved his sausages. LOVED them. He kept making a fuss about how delicious they were, and he was so happy. And that made ME happy that we were able to eat somewhere he loves to much!
A nice older gentleman kept coming outside to our table to check on us. He made sure the outdoor heaters were turned on, and he thanked us profusely for choosing to dine with them. That made me feel so good, and it was so nice.
I also liked that Portillo's provided lots of hand sanitizer dispensers that were placed in appropriate locations around the restaurant. They had the name brand Purell product too, not that stinky knockoff sanitizer.
