Portillo’s Suburban Chicago Warehouse Workers Become Chain’s First to Unionize - Eater Chicago

"The shops are mostly in Chicago’s suburbs. The kids in those small towns grew up and moved to the big city. Those newish residents caused much hoopla when Portillo’s recently opened city locations in Avondale and South Loop. The drive-thru in River North is an operation to behold. The chain’s Italian beef and hot dogs present Chicago street foods in a comfortable chain restaurant setting. The chocolate cake, made with sour cream, even inspired the luscious version that appeared on FX’s The Bear." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago’s new restaurant and bar openings and reopenings, summer 2020 - Eater Chicago

"A much-hyped new location for Portillo’s, the famed Chicago fast food chain beloved for its Italian Beef sandwiches and gargantuan slices of chocolate cake, opened earlier this month to a line of super fans, according to the Tribune. Though its dining room is currently closed, all usual goods are available via drive-thru, curbside pickup, or delivery. An outdoor patio is also open." - Naomi Waxman

Tank Noodle Plans to Open New Location in Old Irving Park - Eater Chicago

"Venerable local Chicago-style hot dog chain Portillo’s hasn’t ditched its plans for a Northwest Side location, first announced over a year ago. The company still plans to open a restaurant on the border of Avondale and Irving Park at Addison and Kimball streets. It’ll have a “Roaring ‘20s” theme, as well as an outdoor patio, parking lot, and double drive-thru, the Trib reported. “We look forward to putting a shovel in the ground in the next two months and opening later this year,” Portillo’s VP of real estate told reporters in an email." - Naomi Waxman

Portillo’s Hot Dogs’ Third Chicago Restaurant Is Officially Coming to the Northwest Side - Eater Chicago

"Portillo’s Northwest Side location is moving forward on Addison and Kimball streets, according to a news release and multiple reports. The restaurant, which will be the third Portillo’s in the city limits, was proposed back in October and will feature more than 280 seats, a large parking lot, two drive-thru lanes, and a 'Chicago in the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression and the New Deal' design theme. City locations currently exist in River North and the South Loop in addition to many in the suburbs and other states." - Daniel Gerzina

Google
This was such a fun experience to get a Chicago dog. Their chocolate cake is so spongy and moist. Its definitely a must. They also sell alcohol. I also heard they have a chocolate shake that has a full slice of cake in it. So worth it.

I live in Portland, Oregon and have been ordering 2 Day Air food shipments from Portillo’s for many years. Being born on the NW side of Chicago, I recall the amazing tiny Italian Beef shops my parents used to take me to when I was a kid. The craving continues and Portillo’s delivers excellent Italian Beef and Chicago Dog kits for making these delicious favorites at home. One time I had a Portillo’s Chicago Dog kit delivered to a small island, that takes a ferry ride to get to, for a Thanksgiving vacation in the San Juan Islands in Washington. Somehow it still arrived in just 2 days and the dry ice kept the kit cold. Amazing! And so good! The price is getting up there but if you have the craving, these guys ship a delicious, authentic Chicago food kit. And I think buying direct from the Portillo’s ship site is the best deal (compared to other Chicago food sites). Highly recommended!!

Google
Though they are small, big fan of their delicious Chicago-style hotdogs! The onion rings were somewhat disappointing to me and the Chocalate cake shake was so thick it was hard to drink. I'll be coming back for their hotdogs tho!

Google
Fun and delicious. Hot food, Speedy service, clean environment. Beef sandwich did not disappoint.

Google
Well maintained and incredibly quick service for the amount of visitors it gets. Very much a part of the Chicago food scene and its hotdogs and fries were no exceptions. Very flavorful and while I’d say the portions are small for the price considering its resemblance of a fancy fast food restaurant, I’d say it’s worth the cost and definetly a must visit in Chicago.

Google
This place is a well oiled machine. I always sit inside because I love their nostalgic decor. I got a #4 spicy chicken combo this time. The employees are always pleasant though their speed doesn't really allow them to be friendly. They didn't charge extra for a container of the honey peppercorn dressing that I like to add to my sandwich. The food is always fresh and hot. I got the deal of a $1 slice of their seasonal Salted Caramel Spice cake to my entree. It was a perfect intro to September. As usual I'll be back.

Google
Ordering at the kiosk was easy. There's about 4 of them and it's there when you first walk in. I've had their Bacon Hamburger, it was awesome. It was better than the choppak and on par or better than Burger King's bacon King (with lettuce, tomato and no cheese). I've tried one of their spicy chicken chopped salad, which was great. It's as good as paneras Balsamic Chicken Greens with Grains I've tried their tamale. It wasn't like the tamale from the street vendors, so I'd give their version of a tamale a NO. it's almost disrespectful to call it a tamale. The inside looked like it came out of a can and plopped right inside. I wouldn't order the tamale here again but I am definitely coming back.

Google
Food- I love the cheeseburger. I know that's not what you are "supposed" to order, but it is what I think is best from Portillo's. Cheese fries are also fantastic. Service - lots of reviews about how you get the wrong thing. Def check, we ordered a burger and got a chicken sandwich instead. Luckily we were dine in, so they gave us the burger quickly. There are lots of yelp reviews with the same issue. Easy parking, tons of spaces. Casual dress.

Yelp
CHICAGO - Good dogs, dawg. Wife and I blue lined here specifically to go a Portillo's, which my wife long has been a fan of. Did. Not. Disappoint. Big location on West Addison, tons of seating. Very clean and well kept. Has a sort of Chicago-Prohibition-era decor theme. Food came quickly. Staff helpful and friendly. We got a regular Chicago dog ($4.29) - good, loaded with toppings, a nice 'snap' to the Frank itself. Solid. We got an Italian beef sandwich slightly wet. ($8.94 with extra sweet peppers). Great bread. Did not skimp on the beef or peppers. Small onion rings ($4.39), nice crunch. A chargrilled Maxwell Strret Polish sausage ($6.59) - again, not chintzy in the sausage size. Lots of carmelized onions. Wife was a fan of the chocolate cake slice ($4.19). Moist. Is this Morton's-level dining? No. But for dogs and beef sammies wrapped in paper on a tray, this (chef's kiss). 4.25 stars.

Yelp
Literally everyone on here has the same problem with this location. They seem incapable of getting orders right. I grew up on portillos and was so excited when this one opened, but they probably only nail 1 of 10 orders. They might get it right if you don't make any change to the base item, but a change as simple as "no ketchup" or "add onions" you're on your own.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't come to Chicago and not visit! This was my first time at this location though. I particularly like the car hanging from the ceiling! I got my same order as always. Big beef sandwich with cheddar cheese, sweet and hot peppers, small fries, large Coke. Fast food just does not get any better.
google avatar

Derek R.

Yelp
Me and wife stopped by to have a Chicago dog and Italian steak sandwich. I got the classic Chicago dog without relish or peppers and wife got the chili cheese dog. It came with fries and soda. We also ordered an Italian beef to share. I have to admit the Chicago day was delicious. I didn't think all those ingredients would work but they do. Would definitely order another one. The chili cheese dog was good but nothing amazing. The Chicago dog was definitely better. The fries were also delicious. The Italian beef I thought was great. Wife didn't care for. So that one was split. The other items we both agreed on. All in all we both agreed we would go back and thought it was really good especially for the price.

Yelp
This one need to gone close down . Yall do whatever to ppls food and NOT WHAT WAS REQUESTED!!! That's not right !!! Follow directions when ppl spending money if I wasn't at work I would've caused a scene up there . Stop doing my order wrong ALL THE TIME . It made me add a star but yall don't even deserve ONE STAR !

Yelp
I love this portillos! The service is always quick and the food is good. There's a lot of seating here and the ambiance is so laidback. Highly recommend their chopped salad, cheese fries, and Maxwell hotdog! Their cheeseburger isn't the best, so I would definitely pass on that. Come here with the fam or friends!
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
Ate here today with my parents and sister to try this place out for lunch. We had definitely brought different kinds of food to share together to at least satisfy our taste. It was definitely great and delicious. The service there was also attentive, quick and friendly. Finally, I will come back again next time when I visit Chicago.

Yelp
The cashiers and the staff calling out orders were nice and friendly - management could have been dressed with a smile. The inside is your usual Portillo's set up with ample seating, a like to put your orders in, and a small waiting 'area'. There is also an online order area where you can grab-and-go. I had their famous chocolate cake to go, and as always, it was moist, decadent, and yummy - a good amount of chocolate icing, this is a great little dessert to satisfy any chocolate craving! Ample parking on their large lot, but getting in and out off of Addison can be a pain. +friendly front staff +ample parking

Yelp
This review is for the chocolate cake shake only. The infamous cake shake is exactly what you'd expect it to be, in the best way. Take an obscene amount of soft-serve vanilla, mix in a Betty Crocker like chocolate cake slice, finish it off with chocolate syrup and you get a decadent creation of American gluttony at its finest. Every sip tastes of pure nostalgia. I like how it's not perfectly mixed, so at the end you get some big chunks of cake. Just get the large since your calorie goals are out the window for the day anyway, and a spoon may be helpful :)

Yelp
Well it was a quick stop on the way to the train station after a nice boat tour. Ordering was quick and easy, the food didn't take long, I guess the classic Chicago dog tasted as expected at least it was hot and the meat was cooked well, slightly charred of which I like. The service lacked enthusiasm, but it was also the end of the day and I'm sure they were closing soon and all ready to go home. It had ambiance had corporate feel to it, so I'm sure there were better Chicago style dogs but we were to far away from the good carts I assume. But hey we tried another popular stop amongst tourist.
google avatar

Nadiezhda M.

Yelp
If you are visiting Chicago you definitely need to stop by this great restaurant. They have all you need and the service is excellent plus the area for you to seat with your friends or families are always clean. Pleasant place to eat. Food is delicious!!!

Yelp
I'm not sure why I thought that if I ordered carry out I could pick it up through the drive-through. I think I probably am the only one who had this thought, but in case there are others, that's not how it works; you have to go inside to pick up. Like really almost every other place. However, what's significantly different from other places is that they have the food out on shelves but there's someone there to see your ID to make sure you're claiming your order. I haven't experienced that at Chipotle or whatever. Since I'm updating this review anyway, let me mention that the salted caramel shake (a special in September/October) is amazing and you should get one. They have also introduced something called The Rodeo Burger, and it's not bad if you like a BBQ burger.
google avatar

Yelp
One of our 'have to' spots when we come to Chicago! Just good, nostalgic food for a reasonable price. Staff was friendly, food was fresh and fast and a massive chocolate shake for $5?!?...can't miss. It's a cool, open and casual dining experience for a couple or a large group.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing! The fries were hot, the chocolate cake shake was delicious, the hot dogs and burgers hit the spot. There was a bit of a wait at lunch but the staff was getting food out quickly. There was a man who bothered us in line to buy him food. By the time we were leaving management was kicking him out for stealing, but being bothered in line wasn't the most comfortable experience.
google avatar

Marissa J.

Yelp
I love portillos! They need to expand and get more locations. The fries have great seasoning and the hot dogs are awesome.
google avatar

Shermaine T.

Yelp
Tiniest double drive thru I've been through. Thought it was touristy but this is the best hot dog I have ever tried! Super tasty with the celery salt and the freaking hot peppers were fire! Their beef and sausage combo was also I'm only docking points bc I felt rushed ordering. They didn't have the menu at the entrance of drive through, and the tight drive thru.

Yelp
Ok so last 2 weeks I've been on a sushi binge enough to get me a Yelp Sushi Sensei Badge (go figure). So this week I've been on kind of a beef binge. I ate at Mickeys Drive in on Mannheim, Michael's on North Ave & Oak Park, The Original Al's Beef (excellent) & now Portillo's on Addison. My wife has been talking about how good their burgers are so for a change I decided to try one instead of the beef. I got a double bacon cheddar burger (meh). I can honestly say that I was totally underwhelmed by it. They sprinkled shredded cheddar cheese, thin flimsy bacon pieces on top, & added tomato, lettuce & Mayo. Well at least I tried it The whole time I was eating it I was thinking I should have gotten the beef w/Jardinere peppers. Ahhhh live and learn grasshopper. This is why once I find something that I really like I usually don't like to deviate. Cest La vie

Yelp
This location gets our order wrong, without fail, every single time. Food is good but never accurate.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Great food, extremely happy to have a portillos not all the way downtown or trekking all the way to Skokie. Fast service and always a pleasure to hang out and eat inside and the drive through. Wonderful vibes all around. Always great to have a big beef and chocolate cake shake, best beef in Chicago.
google avatar

Zack R.

Yelp
They just keep getting it wrong. My family and I ate there a few nights ago. They forgot a jumbo dog with everything and a jumbo chili cheese dog. Had to wait an extra 10 minutes for them! Then, they gave me two dogs with everything and forgot the chili dog. Had to wait another 10 minutes! My family was done eating by the time I got my dog. And by then my fries were ice cold. Other things they messed up that night: forgot two of our drinks, forgot sport peppers on my wife's dog, forgot cheese on my niece's cheeseburger. All of this with no sense of urgency, and worst of all, no apology. The accuracy was terrible, recovery was really bad, but customer service was non-existent.
google avatar

Yelp
Picked up to go and eaten for dessert after dinner, i thoroughly enjoyed a lovely slice of in-house baked chocolate cake provided by @portilloshotdogs. So rich and fluffy this was totally a great treat to end (and start!) the day! #gourmetrecovery #restaurantreview #roadtrippingusa

Yelp
The day I visited this Portillo's Hot Dogs I was not feeling like myself and needed to get out for something. Anything! The only thing I really wanted to get out for was a hot dog! Yes, a hot dog! Occasionally, I get out for things like thrifting, grocery shopping, a walk, or a run, but for a hot dog? Hehe, the taste buds work in mysterious ways, but if a hot dog at Portillo's would get me out of isolation, then it is a hot dog I had to get. As a vegetarian it makes me happy seeing that Portillo's has the plant-based garden dog, which is a hot dog made with 100% plant-based protein and crafted for Portillo's by Field Roast. I have ordered it with my coworkers in the past, and it appears and tastes just like a Chicago hot dog. That my friends is what I wanted, and certainly what I ordered along with fries. I would have loved a drink with it, preferably a Pepsi which they did not have. Pepsi is known for perking me tha h*ll up with joy! There are ample parking spots available at this location and it is not even shared. Ordering online with yelp was very convenient because by the time I arrived my order was waiting on me for pick-up. Ah, the environment is something else at Portillo's! Portillo's had that well needed energy I needed to feel, and the interior decoration took me to a whole different place. I went through a process picking up my order, I swear! They must have had issues with individuals taking orders that were not theirs because sharing just my name, and the order placed via Grubhub was not enough with a security guy. I literally shared the whole Grubhub fulfillment email sent by yelp which had every piece of information needed, plus more. I really loved that interaction because it put a well needed smile on my face. It was more of the feeling of proving your point to someone who seemed overwhelmed, which I had no issues doing. Oh, the initial taste of those slightly salted crinkle-cut fries! Mm, honey, yasss! I could not resist eating them while driving enroute to my destination with the biggest smirk on my face. And the Pepsi, I ended up picking up from a nearby gas station since Portillo's only had Coca-Cola products. I had to pull my vehicle over to eat the plant-based garden dog. And aww, it was the cutest wittle hot dog! Very delicious, too! Definitely what my taste buds desired and received. Yes! Here's a tip! You have to grip Chicago hot dogs from the top, and open your mouth wide while biting or else you will get toppings everywhere, hehe. After eating it, I said to myself with a smirk on my face," Thank you, Portillo's!". This visit was the push I needed getting outdoors. As indicated in this review, I enjoyed my meal and would surely order from again being that I had a pleasant ordering experience with this Portillo's Hot Dogs location. ~ Be Kind. To everyone. ~ Thomas G

Yelp
Worst customer service I've had in a long time. Delivery got cancelled after 2 hours. Portillo's takes no responsibility or offers no resolution to delivery and just blames Uber or DoorDash. It's a joke. Huge waste of time and incredibly frustrating.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
As a non-Chicagoan, Portillo's is a must-eat every time I visit! Chicago style hot dogs are so different and delicious. The desserts I've tried are the strawberry shortcake and lemon cake, both yummy although lots of sugar.
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
This is what I received when I ordered the combo bowl. It looks half eaten. When I reached out for help I was told that there was not anything that they could do. Disappointed.

Kathy D.

Yelp
Ordered 4 items at drive through, and they couldn't fill the order correctly. We paid for a hot dog not received. Called and placed on hold, never came back. Filed a customer service survey - automatic reply, the issue will be looked into so it doesn't happen again. REALLY - well it won't b/c I won't be back.
google avatar

April W.

Yelp
This place has gone downhill! I picked up food that I ordered on-line and when I got home the food was cold. The chopped salad had no chicken, the burger, fish sandwich and fries were all cold. They didn't even cook the burger all the way because the cheese wasn't melted. Spoke with Eric the manager and he was gonna try to put blame on me cuz I order the food online. Seriously dude! I had to put some of the food in the oven to warm the food. He wanted me to go back and get a reorder, I said no. Then he says well I'll send you a certificate for your troubles and he sends me a free drink and dessert coupon with my next order! Um, yea that isn't happening never going back to this place! Customer service sucks as does management! You can keep those freebies. Eat with caution!
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
Went there last night. Saturday night at 6pm. Bad time to go. We went inside to order and sit down. It took us 20 minutes after ordering to get our order. I had a beef bowl with fries and a drink and my husband had a double cheeseburger with fries and a drink. After waiting 20 minutes for the order my husband's double cheeseburger with bacon and lettuce and tomato when he opened the box it was only 2 beef patties with nothing on it. He took it back and they handed one back to him in less than a minute. So why the 20 minute wait? They definitely take care of the drive thru customers before inside customers. We have been there many times before and we go inside when we are not in a hurry, but we will not be back on a Saturday night.

Jay S.

Yelp
Here's a reason their app is no good. It let me pick a location, but it wouldn't let me place an order. I tried it multiple times and the app ran in a loop. I guess I'm going somewhere else.
google avatar

Chloe P.

Yelp
My first time at this Chicago staple! The fries were piping hot! Cheeseburger was amazing. Everyone was so nice. I even tried the famous Chicago hot dog. Quite good. Will be going back!
google avatar

Kaliphornia G.

Yelp
The food is amazing, delicious and abundant. I mostly visited the locations in the suburbs; Skokie and Schaumburg. I've always gone for the chopped salad. I purchased a bottle of their house dressing, it's just that good. Twice I've visited the location on Addison in Chicago, and sadly, I was disappointed. Big difference in the amount of salad given. It was obvious that instructions were being followed to lighten up the amount by almost a third. Not sure of the quality in other locations in the city, but for now, I will make the trip to the suburbs.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
The Beef sandwich!!! MUST TRY!! Their dogs aren't too bad either;) come hungry leave with a happy full stomach...OH yeah have them dip the sandwich in the gravy, YOU ARE WELCOME
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Congratulations for getting my delivery order 100% correct the first time this year. Thank you keep on going.

Yelp
Shocked with all the low ratings. I ordered Portillo's from this location on DoorDash for me, my wife, and my friends we were staying with. My wife and I shared the Big Italian Beef Sandwich, Char Grilled Maxwell Street Polish Sausage, and a Plant-based Garden Dog. The food was all very delicious. We also got the Cheese Fries but ended up being too full and saved them for our friends. We would love it if they put a Portillo's closer to us in Maryland, DC, or Northern Virginia.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for the best Chicago street food, look no further than Portillos. This first-class operation serves up some of the finest Italian beef and hot dogs you'll ever taste. And, as a bonus, the French fries are some of the best in the city. One thing that stood out was how spotless the entire restaurant was. From the bright, inviting dining room to the immaculate bathrooms, it's clear that the kitchen is equally as clean. Everyone, from the staff in their cool uniforms to the first-class customer service, adds to the experience. If you're looking for a true taste of Chicago, take your visitors to Portillos. Trust me, and you won't be disappointed. And if anyone wants to argue about the best French fries in the city, I'm ready to fight! LOL!

Yelp
We were up in the area because my kids wanted to go to The Alley and I couldn't find any parking so I just dropped them off and went for a bite to eat. I wasn't sure where to go as I'm not as familiar with this particular area of the city and I didn't want to go too far. I searched on Yelp and came up with a few possibilities but when I saw Portillo's I knew I wouldn't have to worry about parking or a super long wait. I had a little difficulty getting into the parking lot because there were so many cars but once I was in it wasn't too hard to figure out how to get to the drive-thru. I randomly chose a line to get into and I feel like I chose poorly. The other line was moving faster but I think it was small orders. It was not an unreasonable weight in line and the person who took my order was quite nice and very efficient. I like Portillo's as they have a cashless drive-thru now, which is faster and the food is always good. I went with a basic meal for me which consisted of a jumbo Chicago style hot dog with fries and a root beer (Don't tell anyone I had fries). I drove back over by The Alley and found a parking space and enjoyed my meal before I went in to shop. The food was all perfectly prepared and I was very happy.

Yelp
Placed a catering order for over $800, paid for set up, not only were they 45 minutes late, but the delivery guy just dropped everything off. Have ordered from them several times before and didn't have this issue. Part of the reason we like ordering from them is they set up if it's over $100. Will not be ordering ever again for a party-- tried calling them to talk to manager and put me on hold for way too long so had to hang up!!! I think this location is just a poor representation of rest of Chicago area chain. At all cost-- avoid ordering for catering menu from here!!!!!

Yelp
Love this place so much! Food is always delicious. My favorite "fast food" place ever. I love the service here it is always satisfactory. I love the locations especially the ones with the cars. The ambiance is very nice with the decor.

Yelp
I am probably Portillo's biggest fan and have had nothing but five-star dining experiences there over many decades, including at this location. However, my experience this week was so bad I still cannot even believe it. First, I didn't get cheese sauce with my fries, as the cashier didn't input it correctly in the order and, in fairness, I also didn't double-check it while at the register. When I asked about it at the pick-up counter, I was told I had to get back in line with the tray with the rest of my food to pay for it, which I get. It was like a dollar and change, but it was annoying because I wanted to eat and my food was getting cold. Anyway, after paying for the cheese sauce, I sat down to eat. The hot dogs were good, but somehow not as good as usual. Maybe I just imagined it because of the issues with the rest of my order. The french fries, every single one of them, were like an inch long. An INCH LONG. Imagine me trying to dip them into the cheese sauce I had worked so hard for. It was not a pretty sight. Also, I had a slice of chocolate cake, and it was dry, dry, dry. How is that possible?! Portillo's chocolate cake is legendary for its awesomeness! Not this time. I didn't even finish all my fries and I also threw away most of the cake. I repeat, I THREW OUT PORTILLO'S FRIES AND CAKE!!! That is basically sacrilegious, but that illustrates how bad my dining experience was. I am still heartsick over it as I only treat myself to Portillo's a couple of times a year and I have never had an experience like this. Do better, Portillo's on Addison!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Service is quick and awesome always! It's great knowing you're going to be treated well. I've never had a problem they would care to fix.

Yelp
To look up this location on Yelp and see low ratings is odd. 4.2 stars of 2.3 k reviews on Google to boot. Ratings aside I'm a regular of Portillo's and presently this is my favorite location. Their proximity to the expressways and some of my fam' makes grabbing meals uber convenient. Pull into the lot on any day of the week, walk through their bustling dining areas or order from the drive thru, it all runs pretty smoothly. This location being here near CTA stops and entrances/ exits for the expressway brings much traffic through the area and a constant stream of hungry patrons. With that said, the drive thru can be busy. Wait times can be fast for something easy like a single red hot. Other orders can take twenty minutes or longer. A customer always has the option of ordering at the drive-up & waiting indoors. I'd say a majority of the time, I'll choose inside ordering. Can get some work done /make calls while waiting. **One crappy detail of ordering at the window, there are two drive-thru lanes which merge closer to the pick-up windows. When ordering if you are located in a lane away from the menu, their personnel do not carry paper menus for you to see. So you're asking for whether they have this, that or the other. Another thing; Portillo's has items that you've probably never known about. ie Giardinera sauce! Knock on wood, all of my visits have been spot on. Had ordered catering over the holidays for out-of-town guests and brought them to dine in. Everyone enjoyed.

Yelp
This Portillo's is new to me. When I left Chicago, I think it was a storage unit but honestly I don't recall. I came here to get an Italian beef because as always it's going to be the baseline, the average. It still irks me that they charge for peppers but when your flight comes in late and you just want a taste of home it's fine. However, my buddy turned me onto the fact that Portillo's is now in the Spicy Chicken sandwich wars with a 'giardiniera' sauce. What a crass attempt to cash in on a trend; guess I'll try it. The sandwich itself actually wasn't bad, the giardiniera sauce actually had giardiniera in it which made the spicy sauce stick out a little more. However, THIS Portillo's really messed up the delivery and it came out disheveled, like it had been shaken around before it even got to my bag. I ate here so it's not like it could have happened in transit. It's like an other Portillo's except they seem to not care as much.

Yelp
New chicken pecan salad is expensive and Portillos is chintzy on the salad dressing and bread. Last time I buy this

Yelp
Incredible! Food and service. They have the drive through down to a science at this bee location on Addison. Only issue is that you have to enter off Kimball even though there is an entrance on Addison. This was quite frustrating but once it's on your mind, you drive around to block to make it happen. If this continues, I'll bring down my review a star for false advertising but I think it's just because of COVID at this time. That said, once in line, there are two people that come out to get your order, swipe your card and you're done. You put a number in your front dash and bam your food is there. Hot steamy cheese fries! I ate them in the car so no pictures but amazing. And the big beef. My eyes were huge... prob too much food but sooo good. With a side of gravy. Perfect order, hot, speedy, all staff kind in masks = incredible. Welcome to the neighborhood Portillos!

Yelp
This location is absolute trash. I've made the mistake of ordering 3x from this location. Missing items, food cold and nasty and rude customer service. One women actually said " I don't have time for the shi*"and hung up on me when I called about missing food. I placed an order for pick up- ended up waiting 45 minutes there and got cold food. The third and final time I placed an order for delivery and after waiting for TWO hours and going through three door dash people ( first two left because Portillo's screwed up and they couldn't wait anymore) we got cold nasty food and had to wait on hold endlessly and still didn't get a refund. Go to a different location.

Yelp
I like to give the benefit of the doubt but this place is so beyond CARELESS. I ordered a Combo PLAIN, no peppers, nothing extra. Got home to a combo with Hot Peppers. Called in, talked to Rocky the manager. He told me to come back and pick up a replacement. It's terrible outside, my car then gets stuck in my alley on a pile of ice trying to get back home. Finally get inside to open my replacement and low and behold: exact same sandwich I was given the first time, same exact careless mistake. At the discretion of the manager. If they don't care, no wonder their whole team doesn't! Told them I wanted a refund, but of course the careless employees didn't even give me a receipt! So there's no way for them to refund me because apparently they don't keep track of their own orders. Made me go out to my car in the freezing cold to see if they left a sticker on it for them to track it back.... Now i'm cold and hungry! They tried to compensate with a gift card, but what is the use when the establishment is so poorly run and my order is ALWAYS wrong? You can't pay me to eat messed up food. Would rather drive to a different location than return here. What a bummer and waste of time and money.

Yelp
First of all, I'd like to say I'm a fan of Porillos. This review is solely based on the specific location, not the whole Portillos Brand. The combo bowl I got was clearly a very small portion and I felt ripped off for what I paid. Went up to the manager and told them about it, and they said it was an accurate portion. Clearly, the portion is too small. I believe I should have got something bigger for $9!

Yelp
I have to give credit to where credit is due. Even though this location forgot to deliver a milkshake in a delivery I called and spoke with the manager Sean(apologies if misspelled) and I have to admit, he treated the situation with professionalism and was empathetic to the situation and corrected it accordingly. Thank you for making it right in the situation.

Yelp
Who doesn't love Portillo's? They were brave enough to open up during this pandemic, and they're already averaging a 2.5 star rating? Don't pay attention to the rating as they are still operating drive thru only, and most of their 1 star review were written by yelpers with only 1 or 2 reviews written. The truth there's is a lot of hype with Portillo's. Similar to In N Out on the west coast. The lines are going to be long and it is going to be a while before you get your food. If you come here expecting anything better than that, you're...never mind I'm not going to say anything insulting. Portillo's has such an amazing menu. You really can't go wrong with anything you order, except if you ordering salads. Seriously, why come here for salads? We ordered their Italian beef sandwich dipped with hot peppers, a hot dog, chili cheese dog, cheese fries, and their famous Chocolate Cake Shake. Their beef was amazing as always. They packed it with meet and my bread was very soggy just how I like it soaked in the juices. They did skimp me on some hot peppers though. Barely put any on there. Hot dog and chili cheese dog were delicious as well. Portillos chili cheese dog has always been one of my favorite chili cheese dogs ever. They use a poppy seed bun, it's also very messy which is a good thing and the dog has a nice snap. Cheese fries are always good, but they also skimped me on the fries and cheese. Felt like they could have put a lot more fries in that large box, and the cheese cup was 3/4 full. We're my other quarter? The cake shake hasn't changed. Unhealthy and delicious as always. But they didn't fill it all the way to the top. I get that they're extremely busy, and they may have rushed through our order, but they definitely skimped me a lot this time around. They're extremely organized with their drive thru and pick up. They have a lot of of employees outside directing traffic to ensure everything goes smoothly. Please come prepared to wait a while to order and receive your food. Please bring your patience as well. I'll be returning very soon.
