The Worst Portillos experience I have ever had in my life. First, when I arrived, I spoke to the cashier and she never greeted me, but proceeded to ask for my order. I asked for the Garden Dog, but was told they stop serving this after 11pm, which I believe should be posted somewhere for those of us who don’t eat meat and would like this vegetarian option later in the night. Alternately, I ordered 2 gravy breads with cheddar cheese sauce and hot peppers for myself. I also ordered a beef and 2 large cheese fries for those I was with. I spent almost $40 to get to my destination and my ENTIRE order was incorrect. After a long plane ride you understand how frustrating this would be. I immediately called the restaurant to notify them of the discrepancies. The first 3 times someone hung up in my face. When I finally spoke to someone he asked for my order number and stated I would receive my full refund back on my card. It has now been 1 week later and that has not occurred. This is also my third experience with them where they have gotten my order completely wrong, and the customer service was poor. I will no longer be supporting this location.

If you want to eat at a Portillos that gets your food wrong and occasionally serves you the wrong sandwich, then you are looking at the right Portillos. Wrong sandwich. Both of the fries were cold and not full. My sandwich was missing toppings and was not cut. Both sandwiches were not made as we requested. Only thing that was nice was the cashier too bad it cost me over $30 for bad food.

I came here and dined here a few months ago this year & had a great experience at this Portillos location! I also love the 60s theme that this Portillos has inside it's restaurant, too. The cashier was so nice and gave me a free chocolate cake! 🙏👍 Gotta love Portillos! ❤️😌

Customer service with a smile. Great location. This location does look older than any other location, and it's newer than in any other location. The casino is down the street for those who like to gamble. The food is good just like all Portillo's. Don't forget to download the app so you can get your freebies.

I got my lunch early around 10:30am, was the only person in the drive thru and these are the fries I was given. Hard, cold and barely filled the sleeve up with fries!! It's always something at this Portillos. I won't be going to this one anymore! PISSED

I am absolutely livid at how this pathetic excuse for a store is tarnishing the Portillo's name. Portillo’s used to be a reliable haven for anyone in the Chicago area craving good food, especially when the clock’s ticking late at night. But today? Unbelievable. I’ve been to a lot of Portillo's locations, but this one is hands down the worst. It’s an absolute disgrace. I waited over 20 minutes for my food, and my two friends and I were the only customers in the place. But that’s not the worst part—my friend’s food came out cold after waiting a ridiculous 25 minutes. When we finally got our food, we sat down and tried to make the best of this waste of time and money, but it was a joke. Let’s talk about the disastrous customer service. No one, not a single person, even bothered to check on us during the 20-minute wait. Not a word. The staff knew damn well we were waiting forever, but no one cared enough to make sure we were taken care of. That’s not just poor service, it’s flat-out disrespect. You have to be completely out of touch to treat customers this way. And then, as if it couldn’t get worse, two minutes after we sat down, the lights went out in the dining area. You seriously took 25 minutes to get us our food, and then had the audacity to turn off the lights as soon as we finally get it? You forced us to wait like suckers, and then tried to kick us out with the lights off like it was our fault? We would’ve been out of there already if you’d done your job. But no, you had to make sure we felt the complete disrespect all the way to the end. Portillo's used to be something I looked forward to. Not anymore. The Homewood location is a total embarrassment to the entire brand. It’s a sad, pathetic joke that clearly couldn’t care less about its customers. I will never step foot in this place again, and I’m going to make sure everyone knows how bad it is. No one should have to deal with this nonsense. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

They don’t call it a Chicago classic for nothing. Incredible variety in the menu and quality in every option available. The Italian beef sandwich was delicious as well as the famous chocolate cake shake. Atmosphere is vibrant and locally themed. Will be stopping by on every road trip through Illinois.

Not impressed by this location. The floors near where I waited to pick up my order were so sticky. Wait time was longer than what I would have liked. It is a pretty busy location so that can be expected. My hotdog was okay. I've had better. I did like the decor inside though. That was a nice touch. Not sure if I would visit again.

The food was mediocre at best. Absolutely nothing special about it, but it was edible. My daughter liked the pickle in the hot dog. We all liked the chocolate cake shake. The decor was interesting with a 60s/70s motif that continued with the music. The women's bathroom was dirty and the floor was super slippery.

OMG. Your restaurant is just plain NASTY DIRTY ! The floors are just dirty ! To top it off the Bathrooms how disgusting!!!!!! Looks like no one cleans them !!!!! Hire a cleaning crew ! Restaurant was in great shape. Clean, stocked and well taken care of facilities. The staff for the most part is very friendly and courteous. I did have an encounter with one employee that seemed irritated I was there. He was kind of rude and short, but I just kept smiling. Now I love Portillo's food so I'm usually biased. However, today I was a little underwhelmed. My Italian beef meat was really dry and just didn't have the same flavorful taste. My hotdog was constructed.sloppily but still tasted good. My onion rings were not hit by any means. Seemed like they had been sitting. I'd rather wait 2 more minutes for HOT rings instead of the warm ones I had. Still crispy and tasty. Overall my visit was a disappointment for lunch. I hope next time is better.

I could give it 0 stars I would...I've been sitting in this line for 45 mins and currently still sitting outside in the drive thru. The customer service is nonchalant and no professional. What took the cake, is when I drove up the attendance clerk slap a post it note on my mirror and said "order when you ready." I was like ummm...okay. smh! After an hour and a half in line we received our order. The attitudes of the attendances were horrible. The order was wrong and the sausage was raw in the center, I didn't realize until I was half way done with the sandwich. I give the food a 4/10.

A Solid Portillo's overall, the Italian beef with spicy ghardiner was solid as usual. Maxwell Polish sausage was really good. The large onion rings was literally like 10 onion rings so I would hate to see what the small is. The person taking my order was really cold felt like, I was a bother. That said the person going table to table cleaning was really friendly. Inside was nice and clean would eat here again just pack your patience food takes some time coming out.

I used the drive thru and my wait wasn't long. I placed my order for a rodeo burger no red onions and a slice of chocolate cake and had food under 10 minutes. It was a cool experience and the burger was very tasty. A cheeseburger with plenty of bacon, bbq sauce, and 2 onion rings. The cake was delicious as well. Nice and moist mm mm mm.

1 Star - This Portillo's Destroyed My Night, My Mood, and My Faith in Humanity I don't even know how to put this into words without screaming, but I'll try: this was the most infuriating, disrespectful, soul-sucking restaurant experience I've ever had in my entire life. I walked into Portillo's expecting food. That's it. Not a miracle. Not a five-star chef experience. Just a hot meal. Instead, what I got was a 40+ minute descent into hell -- and I was THE. ONLY. CUSTOMER. How do you mess that up? HOW? What were you doing? Were you actively trying to set a world record for how little you could care about your job? Because if so -- congratulations. Mission accomplished. When the food finally crawled its way out of the kitchen like it was ashamed of itself, it was cold. COLD. As in, "you could've just handed me a fridge and I would've had a better meal." Cold fries, cold sandwich, cold soul. I waited 40 minutes for food that tasted like punishment. And just when I thought it couldn't get worse, you turned off the lights. THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE CLOSING. Not just dimmed them -- straight-up flicked them off like I was some kind of pest. Sitting there in the dark, eating your disappointment of a meal, I realized something: you people don't give a single damn about your customers. Not one. I hope someone in corporate reads this and FEELS the fury radiating off every word, because the people running this location are a disgrace. Fire every single person who was working that shift. Clean house. Burn it to the ground and rebuild it from the ashes. Because this team? They don't care. At all. They're collecting paychecks and disrespecting every single person who walks through the door. Tonight was supposed to be a quick bite. Instead, it was an hour of my life I'll never get back, served cold, in the dark, by people who treated me like garbage. Never again. Not this location. Not ever. You didn't just ruin my night -- you ruined Portillo's for me. Forever.

This was my first time at Portillo's - and it was pretty good. I am removing a star because this Homewood location also was having a group event at the same time and it was loud and confusing: I walked in, and what at first had the appearance of a "taste"-station, was in fact only for a select bunch of a rowdy aged retirement-group (FAIL!). As a gourmand I also firmly believe that the taste of the hot dogs at this place, are just slightly below those of famous Nathan's out in New York. Portillo's meats taste processed. The interior of Portillo's is fun, eclectic, homey and surely is a great after-game spot. Staff was friendly. Hot dog accutrements - veggies - were very fresh and made the bite quite delicious. I will try another location in the near future - although this Homewood one, had a neat farm-like vibe! Review: 4

I ordered an onion ring at 3.99. Are they going for 1.00 a piece since i only received 4. I called to complain and they didn't get the phone. I made it home and wasn't turning around to go back. I didn't want them to tell me i ate them, when i didn't. Ridiculous

I LOVE the vibe of this place!!! The bus and the cool jams...very fun! I like ALL portillos have different themes and this one definitely didn't disappoint! Stopped here on our way from Michigan to Iowa! I got my usual; beef: dipped, both peppers, and cut in half! Cheese fries, rings, and A diet coke! Dlish! Thanks, Portillos!

Surprisingly, the ribs were fatty today and not tasty. Rib dinner came without the fries, bread and the wrong dressing!! Totally disappointed!!!

on 2/22/25 i ordered food from Portillos as i have for the last 9 years or so because i really like their menu. i have always bragged to people about their beef sandwiches and other items. I only live less than 10 minutes away so its easy to order food to my senior citizens building. but on this day i ordered and paid for my food but my chicken pecan salad order was missing. I went online and explained my problem. After a few minutes they refunded the price of the salad, THEN, a few minutes later they rescinded the refund. As if to say we don't believe you!!! I have enclosed my receipt for the order, please note the pink highlights made by them prior to the delivery. every item is checked BUT the salad. I just wonder how many more times others were cheated by them similarly, maybe not by intention, but by the mistakes of their food preparers.

It was our first time at Portillos and we had the Italian beef. The beef itself was good but I expected it to come with onions or something else by default. The buns were ok but tasted better when dripped in gravy, which we asked for a side of. Sorta expected the whole sandwich to be gravy dipped. It was drier than I expected. It was ok for a chain restaurant. I really liked the chocolate cake shake.

I have to admit I've been to the Sterling Heights location and wasn't that impressed. I just can't get down with soggy bread. So my husband wanted to grab some while traveling through Chicago and it tasted much better! Although it's extremely busy it didn't take long for me food and I tried the Chicago hotdog that was fantastic with onion rings and a peppermint shake!

Being from Ca, I was fooled by the name. Lol. I was expecting Mexican food. Very relaxed atmosphere and good music playing. I obviously had a lot of questions about food and fixings. When I approached the counter to I asked the gal if the salads were premade or. . . before I could finish she said, "We do not pre-make anything here!" That's always a good sign. I had a side salad and chicken strips. I asked for a spicy sauce for the strips and I was told the Portillo sauce is spicy. It was not. Everything was fresh and I had leftovers. My colleagues each had onion rings which looked AMAZING. They also had a spicy chicken sandwich which looked really good and a veggie dog. That was a no for me. Lol We also shared a slice of chocolate cake. The cake was a bit dry.

This is the worst Portillos location i have been to. They have gotten my order wrong each time i have gone there, and even gotten it wrong when they tried to correct it. They literally just throw anything in the bag. I've waited for 1.5 hours in the drive through. I used to love Portillos food but this place is a nightmare and triggers my inner Karen. Plus it's way overpriced and the quality has gone down hill.

I've been to this location a few times previously and it has definitely been going down each time. I waited 30 minutes then said something and they took my receipt and got the order. I wanted to keep my receipt and the young girl said no and I said I need to check the order. Well I didn't have my fries and she said she couldn't confirm. Let's just say this location is the worst and I'd much rather go to Buona Beef where the customer service is much better and they do a great job with everything including being allergy friendly. This was my last chance at this Homewood Portillo's location.

This is the worst experience I have ever had at ANY Portillo's!!! I cannot understand why there were 8 visible employees standing around and the drive thru line was out of the parking lot moving at a craw! I cannot believe there was management on the premises as slow as these employees were moving. To add insult to injury why after waiting ALL that time the burger I ordered was cold as ICE! I have never seen a burger with a slice of cheese this stiff! COLD COLD COLD This burger was dry as flour. It could choke a horse! If other locations operated even half as bad as this one did Portillo's would NOT be around long! I have never! From my experience tonight it will be a looooonnnnggggg time before I do again!

I ordered a whole chocolate cake from here, which was great. But in addition to that, I ordered a single strawberry shortcake on the app. When I arrived, I parked in the curbside pickup spot and after a bit, a girl came out, put the chocolate cake in the backseat, said we are out of shortcake, they should refund it your account and walked away before I could say anything. She was rude. Not only that, but they didn't refund me. I waited a month before I called them, and finally was able to get someone on the phone who went through the order list and processed the refund. That's just ridiculous. If something is not available, it shouldn't let you order it on the app, but having a person purchase it and then having to call you to refund it, is absurd.

We stopped by the Homewood Portillo's when we were recently back at home for the holidays. I'm surprised at all of the negative reviews because we had a great experience. The service at the counter was friendly; we came mid afternoon and dined inside so it wasn't very crowded. We did end up waiting a little bit for our order, however we were given a free piece of the famous chocolate cake for waiting. The food was hot and delicious. There isn't a Portillo's by where we live in California, so it's always a craving when we are back.

Kind of a staple from my childhood and i try to stop anytime I go through the suburbs. I love their cheese fries but driving this time and eating I opted for just regular fries. They're crinkly and crispy and delicious! The hot dogs are crisp to the bite served with as much Chicago fixings as you'd like. My children opted for pickles only, served on sesame seed buns. The 1/3 lb cheeseburger i had was juicy and served with mayo, last up, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. I ate every last drop!

Slowest drive-through out of any Portillo's I've ever been to. Over 20 minutes to get a beef sandwich and a fry. When I finally did get my order, the food was lukewarm. The bread was completely soggy even though I did not ask for a dip. Fries were not crisp at all. $13 for what?

Being the fist homewood customer when it first opened was great, I have noticed though that since the pandemic that the service has gone way down hill. I usually don't mind waiting a reasonable amount of time when they are really busy but lately once I have placed my order I'm having to usually wait a half hour or longer for food that shouldn't take more then 15 minutes to get ready, I have sort of solved this by ordering on the app and just picking it up but sometimes that isn't right, Portillo's you need to do better! I don't know if you need better managers but when your works don't seem to care anymore there is a problem.

The absolute worst service drive-thru in the history of drive-thru. They just do not care. They are more in tublne with checking their cell phone then delivering orders. Having been to many portillos for 30 + years honewood is bar none the worst. Stall does not care. It should not take 21 minutes for a hotdog and coke.

I agree with the vast majority of the reviews for this (Homewood) Portillo's, to the effect that the issues are not with the food but the service, particularly the quality control. The food is good, but takes WAY too long to get even a simple order. The biggest issue is with the drive thru, and the consistent mistakes being made to orders. I cannot say that they have ever gotten my order correct when going through the drive thrill in a couple of years. ALWAYS double check your order before leaving. Today, I ordered food for five people, which consisted of a burger, beef sandwich, some hot dogs, a chopped salad and fries. They came out with the burger, fries and sandwich. No hot dogs or salad were in the bag. So half the order was missing. Shocker. By all means I will say Portillos is worth it, just make sure you check your order.

I ordered through door dash and when my dasher arrived he was told that my order was "stolen off of the counter." They refused to remake it even after he pleaded with them and door dash called them. Of course this was after a 2 hour flight that was delayed 3 hours so now I'm starving and looking for something to eat on a Friday night.

The food was actually pretty good and the service was slow but I don't expect the fastest service at Portillos because they are always busy. I expect to wait but I expect the food to be good for the price you pay but I received the smallest piece of chocolate cake I have ever had at any Portillos at this location. Not only was it tiny but it was thrown in a burger box and the frosting was smeared off. Probably not going to visit this location again. Don't order the cake at this location!

This Portillo's has prime location as its right of the expressway. Great if you're looking to grab a bite on the way home or on the way to work. Sometimes the live can be long during rush hour peek times. However the line typically moves fairly quickly. 10-20 minute wait. Parking is decent pre/post Covid. Menu has a variety. I usually get the jumbo hotdog but today I felt like switching it up. Love the chicken sandwich! Pro-tip: add some Louisiana hot sauce!!!

I ate a Portillos jumbo beef hot dog from the drive thru and got severe food poisoning. I developed 10 watery stools with severe diarrhea and dehydration. I had to go to the ER for IV fluids and was involved in a car accident. Travelers insurance for Portillos did not care, because I did not get a stool culture. Please BEWARE, because if you get sick off Portillo's food, they do not respect the customer or stand behind their customers or food safety.

During this visit, I ordered a burger and fries. Very tasty! My husband ordered a Chicago dog. A true Chicago dog has a Vienna beef hot dog, mustard, onion, green neon relish, cucumbers, and tomatoes on a poppy seed bun. Now, that's true chi-town hot dog! Don't be fooled by fake places that claim otherwise.

Absolutely delicious experience (as always)! Every time we come to Chicago, this is a must stop at least once! If you've not had it, please do your mouth a favor and try the Italian beef, dipped with hot peppers!!! Absolutely unbeatable in taste! I've had this sandwich at other establishments and Portillo's beef has been marinated and is full of flavor!!!
