Portillo's Naperville

I rarely get to eat portillo's hot because I order it for delivery so I forgot how amazing their food is when it's fresh and hot from the restaurant!! The fries are so amazing as is most of the rest of the food! This time we got a two hot dog meal with a large cheese fry and a small Coke. The hot dogs were one that was plain (to dip in cheese sauce because if you order a cheese dog from portillo's it has melted American cheese on it 🤢). The second hot dog had everything but sports peppers on it. We got two cheese sauces, a large onion ring and an Italian sausage sandwich with no peppers but the bun is slightly wet from the au juice from the Italian beef. Everything that they have is amazing! It also took everything in me not to order the eclair cake! But all of it was awesome! And the only weird part was that I had ordered it ahead of time for pickup and it told me to go to a red counter where I assume the ride share/delivery people pick it up. I went there and no one was there, and I also waited in the area where you would pick up your food if you were eating inside. Eventually someone else walked over to the red counter and a staff person walked over by them and they had to give their information before they could get the bag of food that was behind the counter. So forward to the wise, don't just wait for your food to be put onto that shelf because apparently they keep it in the bag. So you asked for it. Which makes sense so people aren't touching your food or taking it when they're not supposed to be . But then why write in your app the confirmation email to pick it up off the shelf? but If that is the worst thing about this place, I'll take it! The only problem I had during this trip is that I couldn't log into my rewards account for some reason even though I tried to change the password with the forget password thing. So I'll have to follow up with that later. Because for a $35 order- it should count towards my rewards

Drive-thru purchase of Big Beef & a side salad-nearly $30. This restaurant has really lowered its quality in food and raised its prices to be consistent with a better fine-dining experience. The drive-thru attendant was a bit curt . I asked about the more specialty salad with nuts (pecans/walnuts) but theu don't offer that anymore and he kept repeating the chopped salad as a choice, which is not a favorite! My salad was OLD but appeared to be fresh, which only reiterates my point about poor quality. They aren't making their salads fresh every day. I was unable to enjoy my salad and had to toss it! Thanks, Portillos, but don't worry I will get $25 off the next $100 catering order I get which will NEVER happen! I don't recommend THIS particular restaurant to anyone. Find another Portillos. Also, since Portillos has removed the free fry after survey purchase and replaced it with the nightmare of entering your email, violating us, it's no longer a restaurant my family frequents. It was a mistake to remove that benefit with such high prices. My (senior) sister can't afford their food anymore (who can?) and having to enter your phone number for the trick deal of the day isn't worth it! Portillos needs friendly competition. Their staff is sub-par, they no longer have quality assurance like they once did, and their prices and lack of reasonable combo dinners or any specials is a good reason to remove this restaurant from your list of fast food choices until they take quality seriously and lower their prices. It just appears that they are taking advantage of their customers. We will definitely take a break from this restaurant.

Yeah this is probably my last time eating here. With the price of food increasing it’s ridiculous the amount of times I order bacon on a burger, get charged for it, and your employees don’t put it on my sandwich. I did “the check” to make sure evening was there, but should really have to make sure all the ingredients are on each sandwich? What is the disconnect? Your employees literally never get this right. For the price of your food I can get better food and service at The Patio.

We had a fantastic experience at Portillo’s in Naperville for our work group lunch outing of about 20 people! The service was excellent from start to finish — every staff member we interacted with was friendly, efficient, and welcoming. A special shoutout to the man who went above and beyond for our large group: he quickly moved tables together and got all the condiments set up for us without even being asked. It made everything run so smoothly and stress-free. As for the food — the Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers is a must-try and definitely a go-to whenever visiting. And you have to save room for a chocolate cake shake to finish it off — 10/10! Great food, great atmosphere, and truly outstanding service. We’ll definitely be back!

These all beef Chicago dogs do not disappoint ever! And I love the chopped salad. Someone in our group had a beef sandwich that was great and the shakes were so thick you needed a spoon. Peppermint shake was very minty and good. A birthday party across the room was very loud, but we managed to catch up with family from another state. Bonus chocolate cake was the bomb!

I would never ever skip Portillo's when I travel from Canada. Their chilli hot dog is my absolute favourite. Tried the charbroiled burger this time and it was smoky and flavorful. I'm a lifelong customer.

Went to Drive thru. Ordering was quick and easy. We had a beef with sweet peppers dipped, a cheeseburger and fries. Everything was delicious!! You can't beat Portillo's for consistently good food!

The quality of portillos food is consistent with this location but I ordered a beef bowl with sweet peppers and there was hardly anything in and certainly wasn’t worth the price for it. Other location portion sizes are better. I don’t want to seem petty but certainly didn’t get value for what was paid.

On 11/19/24 @ approximately 7:00 PM, I decided to try-out the Portillo's in Naperville, on Ogden. Now, I can't say I often go to Portillo's & I definitely do not leave a lot of reviews but I felt compelled to after my interactions with the guy working the drive -thru. He was extremely nice, polite & helpful. I did not get a chance to get his name, but I hope he sees this, as I will always go this Portillo's from now on because of his kindness (which just is not that common these days)

I went here for a Yelp elite experience! - And it was my first time at Portillos! The place was super crowded for lunch hour ! But the service was on point and fast! The place has good vibes and would highly recommend their salted caramel cake! Please do visit :)

The food is fine, as always. HOWEVER... This past Tuesday, there was a very scary experience. A gentleman had a medical emergency at the table where he was eating with his friends. Staff did NOTHING. They didn't move the tables out of the way so that anyone could help him. CUSTOMERS jumped in and did that. Staff did NOTHING. When asked if staff or the manager called 911, they responded with no and a shrug. A CUSTOMER called 911. This location doesn't have an extra door at the front besides the revolving door. Staff did NOTHING...well, the employee by the revolving door was playing on his phone when the EMTs showed up and tried to figure out how to get in with a gurney. A CUSTOMER told an employee to go open a different door, and a CUSTOMER told the EMTs where to go to get in. Staff did NOTHING to put tables back in place or to check if everyone else was okay. A CUSTOMER did that. Staff did NOTHING to assure the patrons that everything is okay otherwise, considering all the mass shootings these days. It's unnerving. The one star is for the CUSTOMERS, because they jump in and get stuff done. They'd get 5 stars if I could. Portillo's staff at this location...well...let's just say I hope you never have a medical emergency there, because they will just stare at you. So disgusted.

Found this location by accident and loved the salad and chicken tenders. the service was quick and loved the kiosk to order. The pleasant ambiance is always welcomed at portillos. this meal did not disappoint. Tip not a big gorgonzola fan sub mozzarella and cheddar cheese instead and love the house dressing.

Overall (A) I can see why individuals like this place a lot. Got a bacon double cheeseburger from there and it hit the spot. The service is fairly fast and friendly. Felt like it was a good value for around $11. And the quality of the burger was really good. Feels like a safe bet place. They have a wide selection of food options. Didn't grow up in Chicagoland but it may become part of our regular rotation. When I need a burger fix I will either come here or Culver's

Burger was dry, smaller than in past, very disappointing. I had trouble cutting, they used to be so juicy. In know way compares to the past. I will say though the staff was very nice!

First time having Portillo's and it's easily one of the best fast food chains I've had. My friend's brother went to pick up our order which we placed in line but apparently the drive through and in-person line were long AF. To be "healthy" I got the char-broiled chicken sandwich which was quite delicious. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well and the bun was soft and tasty. My friend and I also split a chopped salad which was surprisingly good with the dressing. Really liked the pasta bits in my salad and I could definitely enjoy the salad on my own in the future. We also got an order of large fries but they accidentally gave us a small, sad! The fries were a bit soggy by the time we had them but they were SO SEASONED and SO GOOD. I don't say this often but definitely better than McDonald's fries. Overall, solid fast-food experience!

Never a disappointment at Portillo's. My daughter and I split the large beef, dipped with hot peppers, fries and a tamale. Christmas music was playing so a festive atmosphere and the staff was friendly. First time seeing this cute setup of little stocking stuffer gifts.

My family visited this Portillo's location when were in Naperville visiting family. We normally go to this location every time we visit, which is usually once a year or once every other year. This year, the food was disappointing. I got a regular chicago style hotdog and my husband and I shared fries and a regular chocolate cake shake. He also got a Caesar salad. The hot dog was fine, a little pricy for the small size that it is. The fries were fine - their fries aren't my absolute favorite but they'll do. My husbands salad was so sad looking. I didn't try it because it didn't look that good. The shake was good. Some other family members got the Italian beef sandwich and Portillo's has really cut down on the amount of beef you get. It was honestly a pathetic excuse for a sandwich. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture since they were down quite a few seats from me, but both people who got the Italian beef sandwich had way more bread than meat. I was glad I chose a hot dog. The cashier was very nice and helpful though! Can't fault them on that regard! I normally look forward to my annual Portillo's fix, but I can honestly say I don't know if I care if we visit next time we're in town.

I love the cheeseburger. Might be my favorite in the area from fast casual joints. The fries aren't the greatest....need more crunch, they can be a bit soggy. What gets me are the prices. They show a value meal.....but as they add each item in individually it's gets to be insane for one meal. The price alone will keep me away.

Found a staple on the tomato on my hotdog! Great job! Good thing I saw it before I eat it!

Food was already prepared when I got there and it was hot and fresh. I am a driver who is always in a hurry so it was relief to know when I walked in my food was waiting for me not the other way around. I barely have time to eat much less wait for food being prepared

Dropped in about an hour before closing to try Portillo's for the first time and wasn't disappointed! Loved the old school atmosphere and decor and experienced friendly service. Tried the Italian beef with sweet and spicy peppers and it was delicious and freshly made to order. Pricing was reasonable and also enjoyed a chocolate cake shake for dessert.

When you order hot peppers on the side for your sandwich, be sure to add, please include the peppers not just the pepper juice.

Just wanted to say you Naperville residents have something special that may not seem great compared to other Portillo's or Chicago hot dog places. I used to visit Chicago all the time and eat at Portillo's occasionally because of the consistency. They opened one in California and I went to it out of nostalgia, everything was awful..super soggy bun and soft/limp fries. When I visited Naperville it was one of the few places open late at night and I was super happy it tasted right and exactly how I remembered. It also survived a pretty cold night, about an 8 minute drive to the hotel but being blasted by cold air leaving the restaurant and walking to the hotel. Chili Dog: Never had it before and thought it would be good on a cold day. Hot dog was delicious and the iconic black sesame bun was soft but not soggy. Chili was great and loved the diced onion though I had to brush my teeth right later. Fries: Weird thing to call out but I love crinkle cut fries like this, these stand with the very best I've had at Del Taco and Shake Shack but come with a good cheese dip.

We came here for valentine day. Because we love Chicago style food. It's pretty clean and the food is fabulous. I got my favorite Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers. Onion rights and a large coke!

It's been a while since we have been here. The menu board is now almost unreadable. The font is MUCH smaller than before and the board is low contrast. They are using a light blue font on a white background. Very bad idea. We had to ask what soft drinks they had. We could see the Coke icon but not much else. And the prices, Yikes!

This unit has been there for 30 years and has not changed one bit. They added a pick up section but that's it . A blast from the past. Food was sketchy for a while. The chicken sandwiches are still sub par but the standard hot dogs and beef are still solid. This hometown favorite is now expanding nationally for good reason. Legendary indeed!

I remember when I was gonna go to a wedding with my family but I was sick, so I couldn't go. My grandmother decided to take me to Portillos to get me some lunch. I remember just heading through the drive thru with her and she got a sandwich from another place (don't remember) but I wanted to share this story and Portillos has amazing food and service.

Every time I go to Portillo's I keep finding it getting worse, despite going back hoping to find it getting better. How can you screw up a chopped salad and fry. Well you serve stale, luke-warm fries with a salad that has all the ingredients in individual piles on top of the salad! How the hell am I to mix it up, and why am I expected to do so? Oh yeah, and the bread they gave me was so dried out and hard I couldn't even think of doing anything with it but throwing it away! I will compliment them on serving it with nice ripe tomatoes! It's not just this store, but it's one of the worst in their local chain. I can't understand how they are able to keep the Portillo's name with all the deviations from what once made it great.

Fantastic service we came to this restaurant twice it was so good. Had many recommendations from friends before we came to Chicago to come to this place and it didn't disappoint. A must try for sure. Food was good we had fries, chilli cheese dogs beef and cheddars and pasta everything was delicious

Awesome and respectful staff! I recently came here to grab dinner and I had an interesting experience. A man walked up to the drive thru while I was waiting and started full on yelling at the employees about prices of the food (which are completely reasonable by the way). The employee took it like a champ and gave that man the best customer service. Obviously the employee didn't deserve that treatment, especially on an awful rainy day, but he showed nothing but kindness and respect to the man yelling. I have a lot of respect for that employee and I'm glad I have a restaurant in the area with such wonderful staff! This should go without saying but please show kindness to service workers, they don't get paid enough for that. Take some deep breaths instead Kevin.

Drove through on a Thursday afternoon around 3:30 PM. There was only two cars in front of us and everything went quickly and smoothly. I ordered two hot dogs with a small cheese fry. Hot dogs were great, definitely hit the spot I was craving while in Illinois. The cheese fries were ok. The fries were fried well but cheese sauce was pretty average but they do give you a nice portion. All in all, a classic and well run fast food joint.

Last couple of times the roast beef has had a weird smell & taste. Previously Portillos has been the standard, but somewhere along the way they have lost the high level of quality that they previously had. Service is fine, but service can not make up for the dip in food quality. Sad day for America.

Food was much better than expected. Served super fast. Chicago Dogs were amazing as was the Italian beef sandwich. Get it dipped or even double dipped. Place was crowded and noisy, but took the food to go... food was surprisingly good even after a take out time delay. Highly recommend

I ordered a double bacon cheese burger, with only cheese and bacon. It was one of the best burgers I have had in weeks. Dear goodness, I feel as though, I have gained a year back, of my lifespan, from that burger. Edjon, Yezreal, and the rest of the employees that were there at 7:15PPM on Sunday, were phenomenal. These guys know what they're doing and do it well! Dear god, they are awesome.

I will never step foot in this place again. I ordered a cheese fry. And that is it. And it took over 20 mins for me to get my cheese fry. There was multiple cars--probably 7 behind me that all got bags of food and got to leave before me. By the time I got my cheese fries, they were cold and limp. I asked for new ones as these were not good, they brought more cold fries out to me 15 mins later. Awful. I would not go to this location again. I love Portillo's food, but this is not the one to go to. I think it's important to have an accurate representation of a renoun place especially for outta towners and this location is not it.

A beautiful space and consistent with the Portillos branding. The space consisted of fun decor, brightly lit signs, and quirky/nostalgic furniture. This location provides fast service and consistent quality food that always tastes great! My go-to order is always the Italian beef sandwich with gravy on the side, with hot giardiniera peppers and mozz cheese.

Welp...it's kind of official. I am slowly assimilating...LOL! I have been spending a ton of time in Naperville and surrounding areas for work and I can't believe it took so long to find this place. Feels like the quintessential Chicago experience... the dogs were delish and the service was lightening fast during lunch. I definitely recommend swinging by if you're in the area.

Apparently don't take cash at drive thru, wasted half my lunch break. Then wanted to take 10 mins on 1 person.

First time at Portillo's and actually pretty good. The fish burger was a standout. The fish and flavor were great. A little more fish would be appreciated. Service was fast and ordering was easy for takeout.

I got two salads...one CHICKEN Caesar salad...the other a chopped salad. I am at the conclusion that if I went to the dumpster I'd find a salad in better shape than my Caesar salad. There was no chicken on it and the lettuce was brown...straight up waste of $10...threw it away.

DON'T order the ribs. When I opened the foil and saw the ribs I laughed out load. They were the smallest ribs I've ever seen in my life (I'm 55). I asked the manager if this was a mistake, she said nope. I told her I was very unhappy and she said I don't know what to tell and walked away. I hate corporate Portillo's.

Food was good. Drive thru was quick. But the worker that handed me the food was leaning up against the window with his eyes closed looking like he's asleep. Then he walks up to the car and hands it to me saying "what you doing? How ya feelin?", then turns his back and walks away. Try to hire people that look like they want to be there and speak normally.

Busy restaurant but good food and we got great service from Gregory! He was very attentive and helpful. It was my family's first trip here. We got a delicious chocolate cake on the house bc it was our first time there. That's nice of them and a well worth stop we made. Their bread for the burger and hotdogs was soft and delicious. You can eat on its own. Should we ever come back to visit Illinois, We'll definitely check them out again!

This location is 5/5! I recently placed an order for pick up and arrived to the restaurant early so I decided to come in to wait for my food. The manager noticed me waiting near the shelves that said pick up and she asked me to stand near the service counter so my food could be picked up even quicker! They hurried my order (without even being asked) and I got it about 10 minutes early. I tried their veggie Chicago style hotdogs and omg as a vegetarian/pescatarian this is the food I have missed the most! also had to get an order of delicious cheese fries and the cheese and fries both came out nice and hot. We have used their drive thru many times and they have always got our order right . Great service and amazing food!

Fries are half frozen. Beef looks almost gray. Everything went down hill since going public. Employees all act like they don't want to be there

This was one of the first Portillo's that I'd ever been in. One year, I was feeling down because I couldn't get some time off from work around my birthday, but I was able to catch an evening train to come up to visit my mom in Naperville and just after she picked me up, we came to Portillo's and got some cake for my birthday and I couldn't have been happier. It was very sweet of them. Usually I order a hot dog or a chicken sandwich and I've never been disappointed. Everything is fresh and the wait time isn't completely unreasonable.

FYI..this opinion is based on the last 4 years of observation and experience this is NOT a 1 time order. This is just the last one. 10/12/22 They messed up 85% of an order for 6 people. The fries were under and when replaced were still the same. Kudos for them to instantly replace them but this place has not been the same since an investment firm replaced the original owner. We ordered 1 plain, 1 everything , I chs brg lettuce and ketchup only, 1 chs brg evy, chopped salad, 1 big beef dipped gdnra side. We got 1 plain, 1 everything, 1 chs brg only ketchup, giant double chs brg lettuce and ketchup, big beef dry w jous on the side. By the time we kept going back to the counter to rectify the situation it was lost. We would have to redo the whole order complicating everything with receipts and all that comes with it. Bottom line this is the first time I have commented on the new portillos but it has been inconsistent for years. No sport peppers to missing cheese sauce for the fries to bad coke mixes (McD corporate talking) it tastes like diet gross. This place went from showing up with a whole football team after high school games NNHS to out of my thoughts forever. The only reason I was there was to meet my parents who missed it from out of town. Portillos can't be trusted for a good meal anymore especially if you grew up in the 90's enjoying there splendid food...AT THE TIME, THIS VERSION SUX! Avoid and go to buona beef or Nicky's for a consistent product. Dang should've added photos but I forgot to mention on the giant dbl chs brg the lettuce was not even on the bun rather below it soaking up all the fat getting flaccid couldn't even fix it. $75 could have been surf & turf from Mariano's

I literally hyped this place up for so long before I got to visit. My favorite was the polish dog. Ever since Costco got rid of their $1.50 polish dog my life hasn't been the same, like seriously. The Polish here is deliciously charred and the onions and mustard combo is seriously heavenly. I'm surprised I even liked this more than the chicago-style dog, and I love sour stuff and pickles. However the Chicago dog is really good with the tomato, onions, and pickled stuff, albeit really messy and kinda hard to eat. Chili cheese dog was savory and delicious but nothing too out of the ordinary. I do wish the buns had a bit more structural stability to them to hold everything together better, but the poppyseeds are great. This California girl is in loooove. We also ordered the chocolate cake shake. Holy hell my arteries. This monster is a once a year type thing. The chocolate cake just tasted like box mix to me honestly but the shake-soaked cake at the bottom was so frickin good, I was digging it out with a straw. But seriously, you should really share a regular size for your own good. See you next time Portillo's! I'll miss you dearly for now.

Do not order delivery. 30-40 minute delivery time (understandable) but it was incredibly soggy and there was a lack of toppings. I know this because we order via drive thru and it was AMAZING. I usually like to douse my hotdog in ketchup but the slice of tomato does the hotdog justice. (Btw ketchup on hotdogs are a no-no) the sport pepper was sooo good. Neon green relish and pickle on top. Wow I was just blown away. Btw the beef hotdog is much better than the jumbo hotdog per my husband but I like both. We also order the chocolate cake shake. Do not order this if you are trying to lose weight. Ugh. It is highly addictive. Delicious. Glad I live far away otherwise I would be many pounds heavier. Crinkle cut fries were just okay. Typical. Also the chipotle chicken salad, this is something you can skip. The chicken does not taste fresh. All of the other elements of the salad were solid.

I just walked out without my order due to the anxiety and frustration endured from waiting 40 plus minutes for 2 Hot Dogs and fries. I walked in like everyone else, placed, and paid for my order. I was given ticket #70. While standing there I noticed people who came in well after me began getting their orders. The tickets being called went from the 70's, to 80's, to 100's. Still, my number hadn't been called. I asked the girl behind the counter if she called my number and if she could check on my order. She replied "No" and walked off. At this point, I'm upset. I'd rather walk out than ignite a confrontation due to my anxiety and frustration. Management, if you see this, you sincerely need to revamp your operation to ensure orders are being fulfilled in a timely manner. Retrain your employees on the importance of customer service, they never know who they're talking to. Hopefully someone who needed extra food got my order and was able to be fed.

Cane shake was good. Tastes exactly how it sounds. Big wedge of cake on the bottom. Chocolate and strawberry lemon cake shakes were good

This was my second time here in the last week, (and I have not visited in a while based on my last experience with the "bouncer", see previous review) first of all when we walked in, there was a man by the door who started screaming at my child to go this way go this way go this way to the point that angered her we go up to order the cashier looks like she has about as much interest in taking our order as she does reading a novel, I go over to the waiting area for my food, and I wanted my sandwich cut in half. Yes I forgot when I ordered, because at this point, I'm so flustered by the rude employees that I can barely even think straight for as much as they charge for their food, some common decency would be nice ! I stood there about eight minutes with everybody ignoring me finally some teenage boy comes to me and, I told him can I get my sandwich cut and he says not if it's already made and I'm like well I've been standing here eight minutes I'm sure it's probably made I watch them take my order bring it to the drive-through. This was THE MANAGER!! So I wait about 10 more minutes the sandwich never got cut and my food was cold by the time I got it all served with a healthy dose of big attitude all across-the-board the employees at this location are absolutely horrible. Even my kids were saying stuff about it and that's really saying a lot. My kid wanted to go blast them all, how about that?

Portillo's is a Chicago institution. The Italian beef is the best from this place, and you should get it dipped! The prices are reasonable, and there's a wide variety to choose from. I love the portillo's salad but I skip the blue cheese. The dressing is great on it! Drive thru is organized and usually pretty fast. If indoor dining every opens up again here, out will be a welcome return. I love the memorabilia they have at each of these locations.

When in Chicago this is a must stop for me. Good beef sandwich which I ordered dry with hot peppers and a side of a jus. Added a Chicago Dog and it was great. I also have a Diet Coke to offset the calories because I think it cuts them in half. I wish!
