Really enjoyed our meal here. Resturant was clean and well decorated. Staff are super friendly and were working hard at every point. Food was excellent and fresh! Hotdogs were great, fries with cheese sauce was bomb, and the beef sandwhich tasted amazing. The cakeshake is a must! Will return for sure.

Google
Beautiful clean restaurant with lots of classic food options — dogs burgers chicken etc. I had the signature Italian beef sandwich. I found it to be greasy and sloppy. The taste was bland and mostly carried by the peppers. Fries and onion rings were delicious. Fast service

Google
This star rating only applies to this order. I have never had a problem with portillos or ever the ones back home in IL. This time however burger is way undercooked and the bread is soggy not even 3 minutes after I left and started eating on the way to work. I talked to manager and all she said was okay. For the meal costing $21 and now I can’t even eat the burger is infuriating. I think I deserve to be refunded for this.

Google
We loved how you can either self order or talk to a cashier, and then sit yourself down wherever in the nice big space inside. The guy taking our order was very kind, and the food was great. Recommend the combo italian beef and sausage. The cake shake was amazing too.

Google
this is a late review. I thought I already posted. we went on a day we had a power outage. they were really nice to allow us to loiter for a while. I got the Italian beef. the chili cheese dog was great. I don't usually like cheese on hot dogs

Google
My 1st time having an Italian Beef and a Chicago Style Dog. Honestly it definitely exceeded my expectation. At least I don't have to worry about driving all the way to Chicago for this. The Italian Beef was very tender and juicy and the Chicago Dog was off the bomb. I started getting a little bit meat sweats, it's probably from the sweet peppers. Other than that it was a great experience and a wonderful atmosphere. The Italian beef is pretty messy but tasty and delicious!!🙂🙂🙃🙃

Google
The Italian beef sandwich at Portillo's was incredible. The thinly sliced beef was piled high on a soft hoagie roll. The fries were perfectly crispy. While Portillo's isn't a traditional Italian restaurant, their Italian beef is definitely worth trying. I'm already planning my next visit to try some of the other tempting menu items, like the hot dogs and chocolate cake. If you're looking for a satisfying and delicious Chicago-style meal, Portillo's is definitely worth a visit.

Google
This location looks nice on the outside and clean inside with a nice size space for self seating. The setup is a little different because you go up and order, then wait for your food to take to your table if you choose to dine in. My friend ordered a chicken Greek salad I believe, they enjoyed it. I ordered a double cheese burger and fries. Neither had flavor or seasoning, but both were fresh.

Maryann S.

Yelp
You have to get a double dip!!! Get it with all the peppers.... Make sure you get a fork and knife because you won't be able to pick it up. Cos the bread gonna be soggy.. lol Very flavourful and did put me to sleep... lol I recommend . I did a drive thru which wasn't bad and the service was ok too. Too good I forgot to take a picture.

Yelp
Well I feel a little silly posting because I realized I never took a picture of our sandwiches - I was too excited to eat! The hot Italian beef sandwiches are delicious and I don't know where else you can get something like them! It comes with regular peppers or hot peppers. I got the regular and it really added to the taste. I think it would be a little boring without (but my kids ate it without peppers and were happy campers). You can get it dry, with gravy, or dunked in the gravy. We chose the middle option and I would consider the graviest option next time, just to try it. I was a big fan of the fries too (we shared a large fry as a family of 4). Drinks were kinda pricey for no refills, imo. Most places have self-serve stations so you can refill while eating but this place does not. Nonetheless, it was a great dinner spot before an event nearby. I look forward to my next visit!

Yelp
I'm mad that Yelp deleted the initial page for Portillo's and all the reviews. But, hey, here we are. I've obviously eaten here often enough to tell you that I love their food. I've been to their original location in Chicago and it's absolutely fabulous, so when they opened this one, I was more than excited. Their menus pretty standard, with items like chicken sandwiches, hoagies, hot dogs and a few other items. I usually go for their Chicago style hot dogs as that's my preferred go-to meal here, but I do occasionally get a chicken sandwich (not spicy) which is excellent as well. The food here's been consistent since dining here, so I love that. Service as well, as I've never had a tremendous wait for either placing my order or receiving my food. They have a monitor showing where you're order's at and they call it out as well when it's ready, so that's good. They have a good amount of seating here along with it being very well decorated. Their condiment station is always clean and well stocked, along with clean tables and I like that they take care of their lobby area. No hot messes, overflowing garbage, dirty tables...none of that here. Overall always a consistent and steady experience both in food quality and staffing.

Yelp
Such a disappointment. I love Portillo's in Chicago. This one is not up to snuff. I have gone twice since it opened and will not attempt to see if third time is the charm. The staff is just awful, the first time I tried it I had a hamburger, not because I wanted a burger but because the guy taking orders insisted I wanted a burger. I couldn't believe his attitude, I concluded it was the only thing he knew how to ring up. The second visit I was able to order the Italian Beef Sandwich which is so so good in Chicago. Notice I did not say it was so so good in Sterling Heights. Dry as the Sahara, stale bun, flavorless. I was stunned to hear they are opening another location across town, clearly the expansion does not include quality control. If you really want to try Portillo's, go to Chicago.

GG M.

Yelp
I recently tried Portillo's, and I must say, they exceeded my expectations! The veggie dogs were incredibly flavorful and fresh, with a generous amount of toppings that really enhanced the overall taste. The cake was absolutely delicious and I'm wishing I would've gotten a slice to -go too. The portion size was great, leaving me feeling satisfied but not overly full. I was impressed by the clean interior and kitchen area of the restaurant. The friendly staff added to the welcoming atmosphere, making my dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend trying Portillo's for a delicious meal in a welcoming environment.

Yelp
Since I won't be able to make it to the upcoming Yelp Elite invite this coming 20th of February 2024, asked my hubby to drives us there for late night dinner. It already 8pm and we saw people coming in to eat or pick up their online orders. There was plenty of dining tables and chairs for dine in customers and drive thru service for those on the go! Ordered the famous Portillo's Chicago style hotdog with the pickles, green relish, tomatoes, hot pepper, mustard and diced white onions. The bun was soft and the hotdog is not salty. Paired with the fries and large vanilla shake. For two of us, it cost less than $20. They gave us a slice of chocolate cake for free since I registered with my birthday to their website. I was told by the cashier that Portillo's at this located has opened 3 years ago and just recently found out thru Yelp Elite invite. The dining area looks clean and the restrooms are kept the same. This is an ideal place to dine with a large group of family, friends or colleagues. We are most likely to come back to try the burgers and other items on the menu. The vanilla shake and moist chocolate are a must try too!

Yelp
Portillo's has been on my bucket list for a while. I never made it to the Chicago location, so I was thrilled to see they have come to Michigan. The food is amazing. I visited for a Yelp event so I got to taste an assortment of everything. I would highly recommend the Italian beef or the Chicago dog, but everything was delicious. The interior is beautiful with the neon lighting and signage. I can't comment on the service at the counter because we were waited on. Still on my bucket list is Portillo's cake slice in a shake!

Michael T.

Yelp
Got the Italian beef and sausage to go. Overall, it was as expected with a good portion of Italian beef and sausage in a white bun. Next time, I think I will get the Italian beef without the sausage. I got extra peppers, which you can see in the photo. I would say the peppers for an additional cost is worth it because it adds another dimension to the flavor. It was pretty busy and packed, but despite that, the service was pretty quick.

Lisa S.

Yelp
What an experience! Tasty too. I don't even know where to start. I attended a sampling at Portillo's. So much to choose from, I started with the Chicago dog, interesting, I would turn my nose up on one, but, still love my Lafayette Coneys. Then there was the burger, yum! The spicy chicken was delicious, but, no way could I personally consume a whole sandwich, there were a few at our table that enjoyed a side of hot pickled veggies with the spicy chicken. My personal choice would be the Italian Beef, OMG!! Talk about homemade taste, it's tender and juicy and tastes like it came out of my Crock-Pot or oven. I'm salivating just writing about it. Give them a try, there's something for everyone. You won't be disappointed.

Christal P.

Yelp
I've tried several of the menu items and my favorite is the Italian Beef & Sausage Sandwich. I like crinkly fries but the ones I had at Portillo's were way too salty. Cut back on the salt and it would be really good. I've also tried the Breaded Whitefish Sandwich. Although better than the fish sandwiches at most other fast food restaurants, I'd stick with the beef and sausage sandwiches. Portillo's is known for its beef and sausage sandwiches and hot dogs, so that is what you should get if you want a better chance of a good experience there. The chocolate cake is good and you can get a free slice on your birthday if you sign up for their Birthday Club.

Aminah K.

Yelp
Just as good as the Chicago locations! The cake shake is a must! Solid hot dogs and burgers. The fries are very good too.

Marcy R.

Yelp
Friendly staff, my honey loves their beef sandwiches with hot and mild peppers. And I love their chopped salad, I sub out the Gorgonzola cheese for shredded. I love their house dressing and the bread that come with the salad. Always happy with our visit at portillo's. They had a salted caramel spiced cake that we were able to add to our lunch for a dollar, it was well worth a dollar. I might even say it's worth the full price of $4. Worth a trip, a must try if your in the area! Restrooms are always clean and well kept.

Paul B.

Yelp
Went to this location with the family. It was our first time eating at a Portillo's. All my Chicago friends rave about it. I had the Italian Beef Sandwich, my wife had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and my son got Chicken Tenders. All of us got fries. The great: the restaurant itself was clean and spacious. The service was excellent. Food came out fast. The food was fresh and hot. The chicken dishes were a hit. The side of cheese sauce for the fries was a nice touch. The ok: the Italian Beef Sandwich. Was pretty bland. Lacked seasoning. The not so good: the fries would have been awesome, but they were a little under cooked. Crinkle fries have to be cooked perfect to be great and these were lacking. Didn't try a hot dog, which is what this place is known for, so will do so the next time.

Cortney F.

Yelp
I have ordered the make and take beef sandwiches several times and each time it was a hit. The staff has always been friendly and answered all the questions I had. The quality of all the items were better than expected. The directions are clear and easy to follow. Last time I got a carry out beef sandwich and it was so yummy. If you have a drive before you eat order it dry with the sauce on the side.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Used the drive thru to grab lunch; had a Chicago dog w no sport peppers, large cheese fries, and a slice of chocolate cake. Hot dog and fries were just above room temperature, not hot; cheese was very hot, so it took care of the fries. Chocolate cake was good, but very rich. Since Portillos became part of the Berkshire Hathaway group it's become like so many fast food restaurants--ok, but not phenomenal. I miss the days it was still family owned and more pride was taken in making it a five experience every time. Will I go back? Sure, when I'm feeling nostalgic for my time in Chicagoland.

Jim O.

Yelp
Went with 2 traditional beef sandwiches, with hot peppers and gravy for dipping. Had coupon for a free one. Tasted great. Every time I have been here - the staff is super friendly and helpful!

Michael T.

Yelp
The atmosphere is cool, but the food is overpriced and average in my opinion. I'd rather have fries and a burger from Arby's. Their shakes, however, are amazing and HUGE.

Tony M.

Yelp
When we first heard that Portillo's was coming to town, we were really excited! We go there all the time when we go to Chicago, and now we were getting Italian beef sandwiches locally! We stop here at least once every few weeks, and the service and food are always on point. You might have to wait 5-10 minutes for your food to come out, but they are always pretty busy and it's never an excessive wait. Don't pass on the chocolate cake, it's delicious! If you sign up for the birthday club, you get a free slice on your special day. The Italian beef, sausage and hot dogs are my favorites. The only thing I've had that I don't care for are the hamburgers. The interior is cool, too. They've tailored it for the Detroit market, look for local music artists and of course there's Vernor's memorabilia. Some day I will get catering, they have a good selection, including things that aren't on the regular menu. You can also get small sub buns which are bagged, and great for lunch sandwiches.

Kendall B.

Yelp
the food was amazing! such good service and enthusiasm amongst staff members. good experience

James Y.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to try Portillo's again without having to make the drive to Chicago and it definitely did not disappoint. Walking in, it feels like being transported back to Chicago, with similar vibes to the OG location. The interior is nice with lots of space and lots of parking outside as well. There's a walk up counter to place your orders and the line moves very quickly. Service is quick especially with the order pickup, so you're not waiting too long. I ended up ordering the Italian Beef, Chicago Hot Dog, and the Cake Shake. The Italian Beef was just as I remembered, with a nice gravy and loads of peppers on top. The gravy was a bit necessary as the beef on its own was a bit lacking, but together it was really good. The Chicago Hot Dog was what you'd expect as well. The Cake Shake was something I had been anticipating since I didn't get a chance to try it in Chicago before and it did not disappoint. The large was definitely a bit too large and it was on the sweeter side (as expected from something called a Cake Shake). I definitely recommend Portillo's if you want a taste of Chicago in Michigan.

Cristina B.

Yelp
I'm a big Chicago dog girly and finally getting the option to try it was a real treat. This establishment is BEAUTIFUL! I love the decor inside and I also love the added patio space outside for the warmer months. Everything is signed accordingly so you're not overwhelmed with where to go. My go to order is the combo with 2 Chicago dogs, crinkle fries and a drink. I also get cheese sauce on the side The order comes to around $18 or so. Slightly more pricey than I'd like to spend for the meal but the food quality is always solid so I'll let it slide! I definitely want to come back and try the famous chocolate cake. Great place to take a group of friends or family.

Sarah N.

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner with my husband after a shopping day. You do have to wait in line to order your food but it goes by pretty quick. The cheeseburger was delicious as well as the fries. The reason I give this five stars is because of the heart-shaped cake, it was super super soft. Definitely worth grabbing and eating at home. Will come again.

Doug R.

Yelp
Chicago dog and coney cheese dog were both very good and a fair value given the location. The dogs themselves did not strike me as being a Vienna all beef dog. They were down of flavor and casing snap. Onion rings were tasty and not greasy, but the portion was small for the price - insufficient value. Hot food, hot & slow. At 12:30 they just were not that busy, but half a dozen customers were waiting on their orders and lots of staff behind the counter was idle. They could benefit from a proper time & motion study to identify/fix this problem. No WiFi. Credit card reader is olde skool, swipe only. No chip. No Apple/Google/touchless pay. WTH? Minus one star for trailing edge infosec. Dining room floor was very sticky. Mens bathroom sanitation was satisfactory. Will I return? Maybe. It is seriously inconvenient for me, but if I am truly craving a proper Chicago dog, yeah, I would probably make the drive.

Mark C.

Yelp
This is my third review I've written don't know what happened to the other two. Like my other reviews really enjoy the place. On this visit I tried the Rodeo burger really like this messy burger. Bacon, red onion, cheese, onion ring and bbq sauce. Burger was smashed perfectly, bacon crispy, onion ring not mushy and bbq sauce a touch tangy that was good. Crinkled fries not greasy I added two salt packets and dipped in ketchup really nice. For the hat trick they serve Coke. Dining area was clean. Staff friendly. Plus I like the classic rock they play. Always cool to hear the Kinks.

Angela D.

Yelp
We went through the drive thru which was a lot faster and less intimidating than we thought! Everyone was helpful and friendly too. We've only ever had Portillo's catering, but the buns were super fresh (usually soggy when we cater), onion rings were crunchy, and tenders were nice and juicy with a crunch! Their ranch and BBQ were not too flavorful and a bit runny though! Overall, everything was yummy and tasted fresh!

I P.

Yelp
Portillo's has the best hotdogs - forget the garbage that is coney dogs, and try these instead. Also good: cheese fries, big beef sandwich, chopped salad, chocolate cake, and their shakes are amazing.

Kelly S.

Yelp
I like hot dogs but I like mine with mustard...that's it. I didn't see any options for a plain dog, although it might be there, so I ordered a hot dog with a lot of veggies on it, lol. I picked off the veggies and ate them separately. The hot dog and bun were delicious! I loved the soft steamed bun. Mom's chicken sandwich was fresh and also delicious. The fresh fries and onion rings were done just right. I especially liked how clean the facilities were and how super-friendly and professional the staff was. The prices are right. I think this would be a great place if you want to bring several family and friends for a celebration like a birthday or something.

Brian E.

Yelp
Decent for a hall Rod chain. I'm sure if your well versed in Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches and Maxwell street polish sausages this place is meh. That said, I'm not an expert, just had a craving after binging The Bear on Hulu and had a craving. They got the job done

Stacy K.

Yelp
Another fantastic win for dinner. This is a newer fast food restaurant in our area and this had been on our food bucket list for quite a while, I just wanted to wait until the dining room was available and they worked out the bugs. And, yes, I also coincidentally watched The Bear this summer, so I was very ready to try the famous beef sandwich and gravy (au jus sauce). Worth the hype, absolutely yes! It was amazing! We loved the aesthetic inside the dining room, like a retro throw-back that gave amusement park themed restaurant vibes, really fun. I liked how organized the counters were, one to order, one for pickup, and one for dessert. The people working here were very pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Last year when I originally looked at the menu I honestly wanted to order one of everything, but I did hold back on our first trip here. We got the beef and cheddar on baguettes with gravy an hot gardinere on the side. We also got a beef and sausage on a baguette and an order of crinkle cut fries. The bread was perfect and the beef flavorful. The sausage was good and would taste great on a pizza. The gravy or au jus was extremely tasty and not only tasted great with the sandwich but on the fries. It was a pretty good price for the smaller size which was big enough to have leftovers (also tasted amazing the next day). We also treated ourselves to some dessert. We got a chocolate shake and strawberry lemon cake shake. They were so thick, we ate them with spoons. Honestly, that is how I like my shakes, thick like ice cream, not liquidy. It was reminiscent of when it was near impossible to sip a Mc Donald's shake through a straw. We also tried the chocolate eclair cake, which was moist and creamy and delicious with amazing chocolate ganache frosting. Funny thing about this place, it was better and more cost effective than a more upscale restaurant we visited lately. It provided a better value, and the food tasted fresher and hotter. I liked that they had such a large and diverse menu. Besides the sausages and beef sandwiches, they had salads, chicken, burgers, and even plant based meats which I do eat often, so I appreciate the option. But I am not sure I would personally stray from their classics, they were so good, I know I will be craving them soon and rush back over.

Ann W.

Yelp
Unlike many of the other reviewers here, I had never visited a Portillo's but I was aware of the brand and its reputation. As a consequence, I was eager to visit despite the long drive. I had checked to see the times when the restaurant was least busy and planned my trip accordingly. The restaurant is large, clean, and filled with eye-catching auto-themed decor, including black and white photos, street signs, gears, and even a truck suspended from the rafters. This was appropriate given the location. I ordered the Jumbo hot dog on a steamed poppy seed bun, covered with veggies: sliced tomatoes, crunchy pickle, relish, and onions. The hot dog was tasty and satisfying. The fries were hot, straight from the fryer. However, I found them to be highly disappointing. I ordered the meal to-go but had the fries in the car, knowing that they would not survive (stay hot and tasty) the 50 min ride home. While they were hot and crispy, they were still completely dry, not fluffy, inside. I loved the chocolate cake though. I had intended to have only a few bites but it was as light as chiffon, chocolatey but not overly sweet, topped with a fudgy frosting. I could not help myself. I wish there was more of it, as I stared at the empty plate. I'm sure it was tougher to work during the pandemic (everyone was masked). What I noted most about my visit was the camaraderie among the staff. The team culture seemed very special.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Yum, we love portillos and will drive the 30 minutes to get some The beef sandwhiches are delicious. My kids love the hot dogs and chocolate cake shake. We got the to go meat, gravy, hot peppers, and bread for later.

H C.

Yelp
Love the onion rings! They are the best I've had! Not greasy. Love the burgers! Everything is freshly made!

Eric J.

Yelp
I love this place, the maxwell polish is the best I love the service and food comes out pretty fast .

Melissa B.

Yelp
SO exciting to have a portillo's in my hometown!! I love Chicago dogs and this place is efficient and quick. They do have a drive thru but we went inside where they have a huge space to order, wait for your food, and sit down to eat. I got a classic Chicago dog and cheese fries as well as a coke! All the food was super good and came out really quick. The cheese sauce was delish with the fries. I did order a coke but unfortunately received a Diet Coke and didn't happen to take a drink until I was almost finished with my meal before I noticed. I plan to come back to this place whenever I'm in town!

Kelly K.

Yelp
A solid 4! Came to this area to visit Portillo's with fond memories of the Chicago location. The chopped salad is the absolute best and the chocolate cake slice is so sweet but hard to decline! The italian beef was ok. They do it well but its just not my thing. The staff are so lovely and friendly. Clean large location with lots of memorobilia to check out.

Anton Pjetri N.

Yelp
I don't like beans on my chilly simple as that , if I order chili cheese fries or chili dog stop adding beans on the shit if I don't ask for it , I don't get it , I really don't care about this place I went there few times burger was too salty & greasy, bean on chili it's a NO unless customer asks for it , well if you drunk after bars I guess it's good food otherwise not really

Christina G.

Yelp
Excellent hot beef, chocolate cake and sides. Fresh and delicious. Love to stop by when I'm in town. Fast service.

Josh K.

Yelp
This place is what I would consider peak restaurants in the area. The food is reasonably priced, I've loved everything I've gotten from here, their limited time lemon strawberry cake shake is to die for, all the staff is extremely kind and they even have board games for you to play while you dine! Every time I come here I learn something that makes me like this place even more. Definitely returning many more times

Amy R.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. First of let me say that I don't like relish at all and this hot dog comes with it. I wanted to have the full experience so opted to keep it on. This ain't relish, people. I don't know what it is - but it is damn good. The bun... Omg the bun... it melts in your mouth. I hate that I live 17 hours away cause this is the stuff cravings were made of.

Tiffani F.

Yelp
Amazing beef sandwiches and fries ! The decor was cool and the staff members were nice. I'm going back !

Shamar H.

Yelp
Best burger around, fries are always hot and the tenders were spot on. I love Portillos. I am a lifelong fan. I will keep on hitting this spot when I get a chance as it is over an hour from my house, but if I have half a reason to go there, I will! See you again soon.

L R.

Yelp
Love this place! The big beef add hot and sweet peppers dipped never disappoints! Great employees ! Thanks Ellen for filling our drinks!

Joe J.

Yelp
The Hall Rd slices beef in bread battle is on. You have two places almost next to each other. Lefties from Detroit and Portillo's from Chicago, hands down Portillo's is the victor. The Italian beef sandwich was good, they added a thin layer of gravy just to give it that extra flavor. I ordered the gravy on the side and it was really good. The soft bread just soaks up the gravy, highly recommended and free to add the side of gravy. I skipped the fries and instead added a Chicago dog. Oh yeah, I was not messing around with potato's today. The dog was good, bread was soft, pickle and hotdog had a snap. I used the curbside ordering and had no complaints, quick and easy. Just text your spot number when you arrive. I really was in a bad food mood and Portillo's really hit the spot, I'll be back to sample other menu offers.

Meng H.

Yelp
Famous? Maybe in Chicago. Here? Time will tell. This place has so much hype. Hype does not mean 5 stars. Everyone must earn it. The line has finally gone down. Shorter than chick-fil-a What can I say? The cons? The onion rings looked burned. Hard and crispy. I guess it's a slow love. Looking at other orders, this is normal. The special sauce cost $1. For the price we pay for the meal $15, the sauce should be free. The sauce needs some work. For now, Burger King has the best onion rings and free sauce! The pro: I had the #1, which is the big Italian beef sub sandwich. It was very good!Juicy and good. Not dry. Best Italian sub!! Needs more items on it. My wife had the cheeseburger which was also good. Service was fast. Nice employees. Clean place. Very big place, so Covid19 friendly. All in all, recommended. Probably won't come here often. Very pricey. Same price as Red Lobster, Olive Garden, five guys, etc. Enjoy

Erica G.

Yelp
I was finally excited to try Portillo's after the grand opening a couple of weeks ago! I had already viewed the menu, and determined I wanted to order the Char-Grilled Maxwell Street Polish Sausage. So that's what I ordered. The polish sausage (minus mustard); and an order of the fries and a side of cheese. My friends and I went on a Sunday evening, around 7:15 in the evening, and boy was the restaurant drive -thru line still very long (which was expected). However, it was organized with two different lines, and the wait was not bad. And the staff were super nice and friendly! The food was good, I just wish that I would've ate at the restaurant while the food was still hot. Bc once I finally got home to eat, the bun for the sausage was really soggy. So lesson learned! But I will definitely try again, and I can't wait to order the chocolate cake shake I keep reading reviews about.

Yelp
I was one of the fortunate ones who was invited for their soft opening after signing up on their website when I heard they were opening on Fox 2 morning news. With the soft opening, on March 8 and 9th, I signed up for a time and day to come out. Then you picked your time, and if you were going through the drive thru or curbside. After that, you could pick one sandwich from a limited menu, fries or onion rings and a drink. It was a 2 item limit. I ordered one beef, one sausage and beef, 2 onion rings, and a root beer and a San pelegrino. They were very organized and ready for everyone to come out. Once we got our food, we moved to the mall lot to eat. Everything was great as expected! The beef sandwich was moist, tender and juicy and huge! The sausage and beef sandwich was great too, it was a brat and beef on a bun. Both sandwiches I ordered had mild peppers, which was green peppers. There wasn't many but that's ok. The onion rings were hot and crispy. They are breaded here, not battered. They can be hard to chew because of their crunchy-ness. Super bonus: 2 slices of their awesome chocolate cake was also in our bag! I was not expecting this at all! It is so moist and flaky! I can't wait for them to open to the public, I'll be back! When they do open, Sterling Heights is naming their giant gold ring on Hall road the Portillo's ring. Finally a meaning for that $340,00 dollar waste of money.

Yelp
I can't begin to tell you how excited I was when I heard Portillo's was going to be opening up its first Michigan store - I've been to a few in Chicago and one in Rosemont, IL, and their Chicago dogs are my favorite. I signed up for their mailing list and a few weeks ago I got the invite for the sneak peek, and my boyfriend and I drove the 25 minutes to Sterling Heights yesterday. The sneak peek was extremely organized, and I was very impressed. We had tickets for curbside, which means I had chosen our meals weeks ago; however, the drive-thru looked like it was moving pretty fast too. We were directed to a place to park at the curbside area, and literally less than five minutes later we had our food and were able to leave. This is what we ordered: Me: Chicago hot dogs (they gave me TWO!), fries, root beer Him: Beef and sausage sandwich, onion rings, Coke They also threw in two pieces of chocolate cake for us - the cake was good, nothing out of the ordinary, but the frosting was delicious. As for the meals, I loved my hot dog and my boyfriend really enjoyed his sandwich; this was his first Portillo's meal. We will definitely be back for dine-in at some point, when we both feel it's safe to do so. I did hear from other friends who went that the Monday menu was different than the Tuesday menu, which was interesting - a friend who went Monday got the beef and sausage sandwich and said that the Chicago dogs weren't offered that day (which would have made me SUPER sad!). However, she did drive-thru, so I'm wondering if curbside was different. Kudos to Portillo's for a fun "night out" during the pandemic, and also for their tasty food! I will be back at some point, even though Sterling Heights is about a 25-30 minute drive for me, from Clawson.

Yelp
Steak & cheese croissant= Amazing The staff & atmosphere is great. Definitely the best onion rings I've had. Super crunchy and fresh. Everything was VERY clean and organized. Don't forget the cheese sauce!!

Yelp
I enjoyed my visit here. The staff was friendly and very helpful from the moment I stepped through the door. The line was long (inside and drive through) but they had enough staff to get through orders fairly quickly. I wasn't waiting in line too long nor was I was waiting on my food too long either. The food was good. I'm not much of a hotdog person but I liked this one. After all, they are famous for hotdogs so I figured I'd give it a try. I wasn't crazy about the cheese sauce at all. That could definitely use some big time improvement. My fries were was too salty but management was good about getting me some fresh new ones with no salt. Thank you! I want to come back and try some other things on the menu. It's located on Hall road right in front of lakeside mall, FYI. One improvement I think they can make is to add a mic to call out orders.
