Get the Picnic Gear Because the World’s Largest Charcuterie Board Is About to Hit Portland | Eater Portland

"I learned that the Portland Fruit Tree Project is a local nonprofit dedicated to gleaning, or reincorporating otherwise discarded leftover fruit into goods. They're planning an enormous charcuterie board—intended to be the largest ever made—to be viewed on October 26 at the Redd on Salmon Street; the board will feature gleaned products alongside meats from purveyors including Olympia Provisions and vegan options from companies including Pan’s Mushroom Jerky. It won't qualify for a Guinness record because it will course around a showroom rather than be lined up straight, and tickets are $35 with a $100 VIP option that includes a custom charcuterie board to take home." - Paolo Bicchieri

Had an amazing time at the Charfruitree event at the Redd! Highly recommend anyone to go. We filled up on one plate! So many different meats, cheese, and dietary options! We tried so many! The gluten free bread, goat cheese and vegan black truffle pate was so good. The sour cherry spread paired perfectly! We loved the plum jam so much we want to buy another jar! My daughter loves it too! My husband and I got a tattoo as well. We went as a night out for our 20th anniversary and planned to go to more places after. However, we drank and filled up so much here we just went home after it was over. The event embodied Portland and showcased so many wonderful local vendors that we will be looking for them at the local stores. I know New Seasons has a bit of what we are looking for. We have our board and have shown it to friends. It was such a great night. #Portlandfruittreeproject #anniversary #Thereddonsalmonstreet

Rodra was an amazing support to us with navigating how to care for 4 fruit trees in our yard. She walked us through all of the steps really clearly, offering some solid science behind it, and then had some time where she could watch us prune and tend to the trees to make sure we got it. You could not get this type of learning just from reading/watching how-to’s. Beyond a solid org making fruit trees / food access more accessible in the community they are a solid learning org! Highly recommend their support!

The range of knowledge across the team is exceptional. If looking for advice or hands-on harvesting or tree care or pruning your fruit trees, I highly recommend the Portland Fruit Tree Project.

What a terrific garden for children to learn about nature, get muddy in the dirt, make friends and have caring adults around them. Thank you for a blessed, free Spring Break learning experience for my grandson. He wouldn’t ever have had such a fabulous week without you!

They held a free spring camp for the kids, mostly outdoors and all volunteer run. It was amazing. My kiddo getting to the age where some camps are just boring and she really enjoyed this one. Thanks so much to Kate and their volunteers.

Kind, bright people doing impressive work. I work for a local food security org and am so grateful for all that PFTP does—having access to the fresh, local produce they harvest is such a gift and helps us care for & nourish our most vulnerable neighborhoods. Excited for another partner season!

Google
A very good nonprofit that harvests fruit from fruit trees that would otherwise be wasted and gives it to those in poverty. The Project provides ladders, baskets, pickers, and other equipment, and volunteers meet at fruit trees after the owners have given permission for them to harvest. Volunteers gather and pick the fruit. A good sized tree can easily produce three hundred pounds; types of fruit I have gathered include apples, pears, almonds, plums, and Asian pears. The fruit is sorted into good and ok piles, and the good fruit is delivered to food banks. Volunteers get to take some of the ok fruit home! All in all, an excellent nonprofit doing fine work, and it's fun! Plus you get tasty fruit. Highly recommended.

Amazing organization with community tree care services, harvesting sessions, and volunteer opportunities!

Yelp
They hosted a free spring camp in Parkrose with lunch and snacks provided. It was awesome. My child has been to day camps w/ PPR in the Summer and a few other ones. The older she gets, the less into the PPR camps she is, but she expressed great enjoyment for this. I am appreciative they were able to offer this to the community. Thank you PFTP.

Yelp
My daughter and her friend attended the PFTP Spring Break camp in 2025. What a gift to have a place to be outside at the very helpful price of free! They received care for 40 hours where they learned about soil, bees, seeds and everything fruit tree. Most importantly they couldn't wait to go back each day!

Yelp
I've helped out with lots of harvest events with the Portland Fruit Tree Project. I love getting to know a new neighborhood and helping fresh fruit find a good home! These events are fun, well-organized, and happen frequently in the summer and fall!

Yelp
Portland fruit tree project does amazing work saving local fruit from waste while sharing their harvest with those who need it most. I have attended picking parties, tree care workshops and community orchard events. I am happy to say I have taken home hundreds of pounds of fresh fruit, learned to prune my trees, and helped provide thousands of pounds of fruit to local food banks. They are great places to meet people, learn about fruit trees and help build a more sustainable community. Michael R. seems upset because he has had trouble getting his fruit picked. In defense of the Portland Fruit Tree Project, I know they are overwhelmed with the number of fruit trees available to harvest throughout the city. Despite their wishes, there is no possible way to harvest every single site. Ripe fruit is only available for a brief window of time and takes a lot of work to coordinate the leaders, volunteers, and tools necessary for picking parties. While the staff is small, they are dedicated to harvesting as much fruit as possible. Rather than blasting them for logistical limitations, I encourage people to volunteer and help them grow. The more support they receive, the more fruit trees they can harvest.

Yelp
An update from my prior review. I had the pleasure of being contacted by the program coordinator for the Portland Fruit Tree project at the start of this summer and had a rather lengthy exchange of e-mails over communication and the revising of some of their procedures. With much hesitation on my part, my beloved decided to contact them about our fruit trees after I had communicated with them. The revised review reflects our experience. Portland Fruit Tree volunteers showed up on two separate occasions en mass and after staging their tables and preparing boxes for the fruit, plucked our fruit trees bare (save for the fruit we already picked the day before for our own usage.) Their crews were efficient, fast and extremely cautious of the property and the trees. After the picking started, the fruit was sorted and aside from a portion going to the volunteers, the vast majority went to organizations who distribute food to those in need. The volunteers even cleaned up after themselves leaving literally no trace of the picking process at the trees. FYI, this is no Grinchlike conversion, I tend to be very critical of any organization that makes promises and fails to deliver on them. However, Portland Fruit Tree came through with flying colors and are deserving of all five stars for the job they did on my trees and the work they do. Plus, as a side note, you get a receipt for the fruit picked for tax purposes! If you have excess fruit in your trees, give them a call!

Yelp
The Portland Fruit Tree Project is a small nonprofit that picks fruit from fruit trees that would otherwise fall to the ground and rot, and then distributes it to food banks and pantries. A bunch of volunteers show up at various places around Portland, go through the safety rules, put on aprons and get pickers, and then pick the fruit. The fruit is then sorted into good and ok piles, and the good fruit goes to people who are low-income, and volunteers get to take some of the ok fruit home. I have picked apples, grapes, pears, plums, and Asian pears, and it's an excellent way to help out people in poverty, promote sustainability and healthy eating, and get excellent fresh fruit to eat. It's a good little organization, and I recommend it. They can use more volunteers.
