Portland Gear Hub is amazing! I have a bike that I ride occasionally, but I know practically nothing about basic maintenance and repair. I've dropped in twice with a tire issue and a seat adjustment gone horribly wrong, and the staff were wonderfully helpful and patient. They speedily fixed the issues at a reasonable cost. Also, my teen recently needed a bigger bike, and he found one he loved in their used inventory. Such a better experience than buying from a box store! Best of all, they are a nonprofit doing great things in the community. I can't say enough good things about Portland Gear Hub!

The Gear Hub staff are wonderful and highly professional. Jesse diagnosed the issues with my cargo bike, was up front about the work he would do, and fixed everything all in the same day.

An amazing place to support in the local Portland community. Donate your used bicycles, and they will have trained mechanics thoroughly inspect and repair (or recycle the ones that don't make the cut) each one for resale at fair prices. This is a great charitable way to support your community, and simultaneously help to reuse/recycle older bikes that would have normally been considered as waste. Great people doing great things here!

To the staff at Portland Gear Hub in Portland, Me. Thank you for the service of my bicycle and also for the bike pajamas I picked up today. I went to bike bonanza today and Becket was so helpful. I can be a little picky and he was so patient with me, he helped me find a perfect bike for me and my budget. As a newbie he explained everything very well (and not in a mansplain bike bro way). I walked out with a bike and a lot of knowledge. I highly recommend going to gear hub or bike bonanza as they are so helpful and knowledgeable. Excited to take onto of gear hubs classes soon!

Google
I can't recommend Portland Gear Hub enough - they did a complete overhaul of my uncle's road bike for me and it came out better than I could have imagined. This was a multi-part project with disassembly and prep for the paint shop (Paragon Powder Coating in S. Portland), upgrading/swapping out parts, and complete re-assembly. I am so impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, and overall enthusiasm for this project every step of the way. Gear Hub will certainly remain my bike shop for all my future bike needs. Thank you to Brian, Ainsley, Digory, and the rest of the gear hub crew!!

Yelp
Great used bikes at fair prices. Nice helpful people. They have a good selection that changes often.

Yelp
Had a slow leak in my bike tire and they were able to fix it in about 15 minutes with no appointment for $40. Super friendly, knowledgable staff. They also told me about a kids mechanics series, where kids can learn how to fix their own bike issues. They had plenty of used bikes, mostly kids and road bikes. A great community resource in an otherwise sea of fancy, over priced bike shops elsewhere in town. Thanks Gear Hub!

Yelp
Friendly, knowledgeable, very chill place to shop. I spontaneously decided to drop by looking for used nordic ski equipment. Lucked out with the used boots and poles and decided to purchase new skis. I'm new to winter sports and their staff made it very easy. Paid and left everything for a later pick up.

Yelp
The nicest staff, shop dogs, great community involvement and a non-profit I absolutely loved supporting. You can ride any bike there, the staff will guide you to the best fit and offer sweet little perks like choosing any seat you'd like (their used but have a bucket full of solid options for all butt sizes), and 10% off accessories at time of purchase. Walked out with a sweet new ride, lock, helmet and mud protector for $185. Would highly recommend anyone in the market for a bike. Some bikes were what I assume to be high quality up over $500 so a seasoned bicyclist could probably find a sweet deal too! Thanks PGH!

Yelp
This is the kind of well-run, community-minded, healthy-activity-promoting non profit organization that makes me happy to be living in Portland. I attended a "Be Your Own Bike Mechanic" two-day intensive workshop in July (taught by Shannon an incredibly patient teacher and skilled mechanic) at the Bike School location on 85 Anderson St, just down Fox from their Washington Ave location. Ainsley, the owner, popped in the first day to welcome us and she could not have been more friendly and passionate about the mission of the gear hub. The course itself was awesome, it was so cool to get to learn about every single part and piece of the bike, take it apart, understand how it works, and put it back together. The class was limited to 6 people and there were only 5 in ours so you get plenty of help, attention, and time for questions. One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to make fine and gross adjustments to my bike's braking system (one would be ideal while out on a ride and the other better for when I'm back at home). Their online calendar is up to date with all kinds of volunteering opportunities, open bench nights if you want to work on your bike amongst others who might know more of what they're doing..., group rides, kid-friendly activities, female-friendly wrench nights, and more. Very grateful the Portland Gear Hub exists!

Yelp
Don't buy your tubes there; mine lasted all of an hour, and they weren't inexpensive.

Yelp
Portland Gear Hub is a great option for folks who are looking to try out a new sport but don't have a ton of money to spend on gear, families looking to outfit their kids, or enthusiasts looking for a gently-used, high-quality piece of gear. I believe that everything is donated so of course it's really hit or miss, but there are some great finds if you look hard enough and are willing to dig around. The staff was super helpful and all the money they make all goes to Camp Ketcha. Also worth noting, they offer open bench time for people who want to work on their own bikes but don't have tools, stands, etc.

Yelp
My wife and I had been shopping around for bikes, we had been meaning to get them before but had issues with everything going on. Finally found some online at the gear hub. Searched for the bikes, found a couple we liked and purchased them on saturday night. I was expecting it to take a few days before that got everything prepped, but when I woke up the next morning I had an email saying that my bikes were good to go and to verify myself and I could come pick them up. So we got ready to go and headed over. Shop was closed and no one answered the phone, I thought "fine, must be closed on sundays, no worries." Then a lady came around the corner, stated she was a mechanic and asked if we needed help. I told her that we had already purchased the bikes and that I had my online receipt and that the bikes were right inside the door. She stated that it "wasn't her job" and said that she didn't have access to the register. I told her I already paid so there is no need for a register. She said again that it wasn't her job and she couldn't help us so we left. I came back on tuesday since they were closed for Memorial day. I called ahead and confirmed they were open, called again when I got there and they handed me the bikes no issues. Once again why I have issues with the mechanic before. Outside of interactions with her and the lack of response via email afterwards I had no issues with them. The bikes are in decent shape although they could do with some grease or oil since they are a bit squeaky. Everything aside I like the bikes and would shop there again. Just in the middle of the week rather than the weekend.

Yelp
Super super super nice people. What a great idea for a shop and what a wonderful execution. I have been in there several times for various reasons and have had a great experience each time. Thanks so much for your great customer service!
