"A few months after Imperial fired up its grill, Paley opened the Portland Penny Diner, a casual restaurant with sandwiches on fry-bread and boozy egg creams." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Awesome staff and great food. The penny pincher special has continued to surprise me for weeks on end. The savory bread pudding may have been the best thing I've eaten all year. Coffee is exceptional as well.

Tried a burger because I was in the mood for comfort food, and it turned out that the special sauce had horseradish in it. Everything was a smidgen too salty, too, but it's closer to perfect than the underseasoned food served practically everywhere else. The burger itself was pretty good, and the service was polite and quick given the lunch rush. The waffle fries were to DIE for. They melt in your mouth like golden flakes of potato heaven. Price is reasonable for a prime location.

Good food, but more moderately priced than the name suggests. Refillable coffee was good, and the breakfast sandwich I got was nice but a bit small. It is not exactly an actual diner. Order up front instead of an actual server. Food tasted good though!

Great breakfast sandwich and pastries. Drip coffee was good but not great, but they had a coffee bar and other customers drinks looked great so there is good coffee to be had here. Nice decor and liked the large lunch counter.

I frequent here often particularly for my daily cup of joe. But the baristas are always super pleasant and suggestive. Their food is also good; I like the sweet potatoes fries and their fried chicken with their delicious hot sauce. The atmosphere is cozy and they support local and make things in house. Yummy!

Portland Penny Diner, located next to Imperial, makes me sad with its hours of 7 AM – 3 PM on weekdays of Monday – Friday only. Unless I am very very motivated, there is no way I can go quickly grab something. Stupid working in Beaverton for my job getting in the way of leisurely breakfast deliciousness… But I so want to visit more often, and even regularly, enjoy a breakfast sandwich on the buttery soft doughy fresh Parker House rolls that I already do not hesitate to pay $1 for when I come for happy hour or dinner at Imperial. But did you know you can have those deliciously buttery rolls with breakfast between it? For instance, the most unusual sounding sandwich of the 3 breakfast sandwiches they offer on Parker House rolls is the PDXWT. This sandwich include duck bologna, sauerkraut, coffee mayo, egg, american cheese, on the soft, buttery, and fresh parker house roll. I inhaled that thing even before getting on the Max train at Pioneer Square to go to work. I need access to more sandwiches with these Parker house rolls. It’s the best breakfast item I’ve ever had from Paley… and that means a lot, since it knocked off the other contenders available at Portland Penny Diner, the Bagel Bun, or Balls (also known as Bagel Bombs) which is a bagel stuffed with cream cheese inside. I’ve also another time had a Reuben and Cheese Croissant. Did you hear what I just described? This is serious breakfast to go here at Portland Penny Diner!
