Google
What a cool joint! The owner Kazeem has a good selection. I was interested in their military clocks and slept on it. Ended up coming back and buying it and had a fun conversation with him (he'll remember me if he sees this). Awesome place for gifts and stuff!

Google
Every single time is an experience with Kazeem at Portland Trading Co. Thoughtfully curated selection of quality (real) clothing, and bits and bobs you didn't know you needed. Highly recommend to anyone looking for slow fashion and lifetime pieces you will cherish.

Google
Man was extremely rude and unfriendly. Kept treating me like I was about to steal something. I was using a sample pen and he went out of his way to tell me to not open a box and use the samples which I already was. I am glad I didn't purchase anything at this store even though I was going to purchase the 10-inch $150 fabric scissors. If you don't want to be treated like a criminal don't come here.

Google
We like this place. Shopped here before. Stopped in on a random winter eve and got the bum’s rush from the owner. He was either in a bad mood, assumed we were too “poor”, or maybe not hip enough…🥴 its ok..we went over to Portland Dry goods and found everything we were looking for.

Google
Cool spot with a unique selection of goods, but the service was not particularly friendly.

Google
Unique selection to choose from, from all around the world too! Definitely on the pricier side but many of the items are high quality so it seems fair. Owner could have created a more inviting atmosphere but overall a good experience.

Google
Stopped in on a whim, and so glad we did. Kareem has gone out of his way to curate “the best of the best” so you don’t have to. I wanted one of everything - it’s that good. I am a scent girl, and I wanted to buy all the perfume, incense, and candles he had. The sustainable clothing by Bestiario is beyond beautiful and I got a gorgeous 100% cotton dress. If you find yourself in Portland, you better find yourself here in a hurry.

Google
Hands down my favorite shop in Maine. It’s worth a daytrip to Portland for the tastefully curated selection of goods from near and far; AND the conversation with Kazeem the sophisticated, humorous, world-travelling shop owner. It’s where I go every year to Christmas shop for all the men, family/friends. Really a jewel of a shop!!

Yelp
GREAT shop to visit. Lots of cool curated merch. I definitely could go back. Some smartsclothes, cool usable small items - like paper pads, and nice selection of facial products and incense. K. was spinning tunes too. One of those small businesses that reminds U how cool small business can be.

Yelp
Kareem has a unique stylish eye and charisma which is why his collection works so well. It's a special blend of stationary, toiletries, garments that you won't see anywhere else. It's always a pleasure to be in his shop and in his company. Do yourself a favor and drop in. Low key atmosphere with music that isn't on anyone else's playlist. You have to keep reminding yourself that you're not in NYC.

Yelp
Love this store -- countless items you didn't know you wanted, and Kazeem is really the man. Definitely pop in for a visit if you've got the time.

Yelp
Unique shop/boutique that you can immediately tell is very carefully curated; you won't find just anything/every day items here. Stop in for a one-of-a-kind experience in Portland.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Portland Trading Company. I adore the unique designs, made in Maine and designed by the shop owner. They have everything from candles to men's grooming products, jewelry and clothing. A well curated offering of high quality, original designs and items unique to Maine (the pomade my boyfriend bought is from Italy, and smells amazzzing). I'll be returning in a couple of weeks to check out the summer into fall collection.

Yelp
This small store packs a punch! I don't buy much in general since I'm frugal and tend to not really need much. I however paced in front of this store until it opened because I knew I'd find something I couldn't live without, which I did. I ended up getting this great brass lobster gauge bracelet that you'll see me wearing all day, every day. My fellow Jersey City people: You'll def want to pop in here and say hello to biz owner, Kazeem! Kazeem came from Jersey City prior to Portland and he still frequents often to see family! Oh heyyyyyy, Kazeem. Anyway, this shop is small inventory wise, but you'll leave wanting everything. Maybe splurge on a thing or two!

Yelp
This man is an absolute crook. Don't do business with him. Purposefully sending the wrong items because you do not have enough stock is a rookie move. Learn how to operate a true business or step aside for real entrepreneurs in Portland. Shop is dirty & cluttered.

Yelp
Super funky, chic store that sells clothes, art, knic-knacks, cool T Shirts, and a ton of New England-hip products. Maine with an edge. The owner was there, and he was able to make recommendations for my wife and I concerning items to buy (we needed some clothes and household items). This is a super cool design-type store with products I haven't seen elsewhere. Definitely worth a stop!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite shops in Portland. I have visited every time we are in town. Kazeem is always friendly and helpful. A very eclectic variety of goods and reasonably priced. I love the fact that he has a turntable stereo in the shop and is always playing interesting lp's. Kent combs, used typewriters, men's and women's clothing. Also books and stationery goods. Lots of fun and interesting merchandise to view and purchase. A one of a kind shop.

Yelp
What a selection of beautiful local artists jewelry! Rings, necklaces bracelets all in sterling! My favorite find was Carner cologne from Barcelona! Found these in Spain last summer - best essences on the planet... vanilla, seduction labeled Rima XI

Yelp
I had read so many good things about this place that I had to stop by during our recent weekend vacation to Portland. The shop definitely reminds me of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY, and that is a positive compliment. There is a great variety of items here and it would be a fun place to buy gifts for your more unique friends and family. High-quality goods from all over the US and the world. I was hoping to find a bit more clothing that was my style, but I'm a quirky person and hard to shop for anyway. My husband and I also had the pleasure of chatting with the owner, Kazeem, who is a charming guy. He was more than happy to recommend a few places for us to check out while we're in town. While we didn't have a chance to meet up with him again (as we had planned), he seems like a fantastic guy who really loves everything that Portland is and could be.

Yelp
Kazeem is amazing. We stopped in on recommendations from both Angela Adams as well as Rough & Tumble and we were not disappointed. Managed to snag some awesome beard balm for the hubs, a knit cap for me (Thick As Thieves), and some various other items -- including a great limited edition map print of Portland. The merchandise is a nice mix. Sadly, my husband is too tall/large for clothes there, but I highly recommend what is stocked. It's all wonderful quality garments and sharp looking as well. Kazeem was not only dapper, but definitely warm and welcoming as well as awesome to chat about mid-century design -- and that is always a mark of a good person. ;-) See you again soon!

Yelp
What a delightful place to spend some time indulging in a sensory feast! Excellent stop for gift purchases, especially if you're looking for something unique and personal. Love the fragrance lines; owner is kind and generous - appreciated the free scent sample very much!

Yelp
Shop is beautiful, selection is impeccably curated, owner is wonderfully outgoing and interesting.

Yelp
I love going to Portland Trading Company to browse; I just wish I could afford their products. This store is very selective in the goods they carry. Everything is consistent with the vibe of the place, which is of a old-timey, high-end general store. Like a general store, their inventory ranges from food products (all bottled, canned, or dry), to clothing, to toiletries. I swoon particularly hard for their beautiful leather goods. Being in the store makes me drift into fantasies of myself as a classy Portland dude that shops exclusively at places like this, but the reality is that I'd have to splurge or save to afford what I want there. Someday...someday.

Yelp
Got myself a trusty knife there. Store is very cool looking and the owner is a chill dude. A++

Yelp
I was on a mission to find a Bowline bowtie in a hurry and PTC carries them so I figured I would stop by and pick one up. My plan didn't quite work out since they were sold out of Bowline bowties (not surprising since they are so awesome) but I was able to find a substitute gift that I was just as happy about. The person working (who I'm assuming was the owner) was helpful and friendly. I spent a little time browsing before I decided on a Fine and Dandy tie. This is a great spot with unique items and I'm glad I finally stopped in!

Yelp
If you're shopping in Maine - this is the place to stop by - capturing the stylish and rustic essence of Maine and all around. Centrally located on Middle St! Well curated items for every one - hers, his, kids, home & gifts. or gifts. From custom Quoddy (handmade in Maine) to little locally made tiny boats (great gift) to shower curtain made of old sails to small leather goods to the best magazines and hand tools! Gorgeous, awesome, some thing for every one ---- and Made in Maine and Made in the USA centric which are a big bonus.

Yelp
I am disappointed with my entire experience at Portland Trading Company, from beginning to end. The item they sent was not only the wrong size, but the wrong color. When I returned the goods, Kazeem wrote to me that they would refund my expenses, including return shipping costs. He did not follow up on his word. And, he refused to respond to my emails pointing out that it was HIS mistake, not mine, and I should not have to incur return shipping costs. (I have also noticed that Portland Trading Co has a habit of posting goods that are sold out - in an apparent attempt to get more traffic to visit.) On principle, I have now filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I will not do business with a merchant who is discourteous and disingenuous.

Yelp
I love this shop in Portland. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it while walking around downtown. I love all things rustic, vintage and stylish - and this had all three! The owner is super friendly and engaging. I found an amazing vintage Gucci bag that I had to have. The only reason for 4 stars is that I wish there were more women's options. Besides that, this shop is a total gem in Portland.

Yelp
Looking for Portland's coolest tastemaker? Look no further than Portland Trading Co's proprietor, Kazeem Lawal. What a great eye this man has for everything in his store. It's an amazing collection for yourself but also a fantastic place to get gifts. The only problem is you can't go in too often or you end up spending all of your money here. It's just that good. Make this a must-stop on your visit to Portland or if you're a local.

Yelp
If there is a list out there of "Top 10 Most Unique Retail Spots in Portland, ME", this place is sure to top the list. What do they have? Men and Women's clothing. Jewelry. Books. Hygiene Products. Fun Stuff. Home decor. Shoes. Everything you want and most stuff you need. Owner Kazeem is not only the best dressed guy in Portland, he is a genuinely kind guy who loves talking to his customers.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite shop in Portland. Great curation of cozy clothes and winter items (men and woman), household goodies, apothecary, stationary, etc etc. etc. Wanted one of everything. And the owner, Kazeem, made our day with his food recommendations (and sense of style).

Yelp
Do NOT order online from here-- I ordered a size 6 pair of sandals online. When it shipped to me, I opened the box and inside were size 7 sandals. I wrote to Kazeem about the discrepancy and he basically said it was a manufacturing error and that it was size 6 in actuality. I measured it, tried on a size 6 and determined that he sent me the wrong size. I emailed him again asking him for help in arranging an exchange. I even called. No response. I emailed the manufacturer of the sandals directly and they verified it was NOT a manufacturing issue and that indeed, he had sent me the wrong pair. They even spoke with him and encouraged me to reach out to him again. I did-- a few times via phone and email. On the emails, I even attached multiple pieces of evidence. No response. Over 2 weeks, my 7 emails, and my 4 additional phone calls later -- I have not heard back. Not even an apology for his error in sending me the wrong shoes or an attempt to correct his mistake. Now I'm stuck with shoes that I paid for but don't fit. DO NOT order here.

Yelp
Must visit when in Portland! Be sure to stick around and talk to Kazeem, the store's owner! Awesome experience! I bought a Giles & Brother bracelet and Marvins tooth paste. This place has so much to offer and it was truly the highlight of my trip to Portland. Hopefully I will see portland Trading company in NYC!

Yelp
Great place with amazing New England goods. Kazeem, the proprietor, is wonderful and so engaging. Definitely worth a stop in whether it be for furniture, clothing or anything really.

Jamie B.

Yelp
Kazeem is the man, and he has put together a great collection of clothing (new and vintage) and fantastic gifts and housewares (many of them being locally produced). This is exactly the type of business that Portland needs and thankfully supports. Be aware of your pocket nook walking in however as you will plan to walk into to browse and then all of a sudden walk out with one or more items that you didn't know that you NEEDED in your life. See you again in a few months Kazeem!

Yelp
The owner here is so very friendly and went above and beyond to help me pick a great gift for both my son ad husband. Great customer service.

Yelp
Great service, great prices. Thanks. Amybeth Hurst, Portland, ME

Yelp
made an online purchase and got the item quick, but wasn't quite happy with the construction of the item, so emailed them to ask if they have another one for me to exchange (since it's a handmade item, i understand some imperfection might occur) and got no response, sent another email, no response. finally, made a comment on their IG post, finally got a response asking me to send them my email address through IG message, I did it right away, twice. nothing. went back to the IG post, guess what? comments deleted. so wrote another comment, finally got an email back, basically asking me to return the item, but considering how long it took them to respond to my emails and messages, i would rather suck it up and keep the item rather then wasting more time chasing them down... disappointed. one of the worst customer service experiences.

Lindsay L.

Yelp
Genius retail--a little bit of the best of everything in a range of price points: new and vintage men's and women's clothes, shoes, and luggage, "lifestyle" goods like wallets and razors and perfume, and a great selection of magazines I've never heard of but wow did I covet the stuff inside... My fashionwhore visitors always insist on coming here, material objects, black parrot, and portland dry goods.

Average J.

Yelp
Quality, heirloom goods and something priced for everyone. If you have a man or woman in your life who has impeccable style, great taste, and is seemingly impossible to shop for, this is your spot. It's easy to walk by given it's below ground level, but look for the huge hanging PTC wooden sign out front. Head downstairs into the well-curated shop and you're bound to find something. I have bought chocolate sauce for a party gift, a couple of neckties from high end names that were priced well below value, and a cool tunic for my girlfriend that I think the owner said they designed in house. I also inevitably end up picking up a style/ fashion/ arch magazine whenever I end up in here - the selection of cool publications is pretty neat. Not sure what the others were talking about when they said the owner didn't care, I've had quite a few chats with him and he always seems happy to help, but I appreciate that he isn't breathing down my neck when I'm poking around. I guess some people just want really hands on service, I think the owner has it right - help if you'd like, leave you alone if not. Don't miss this place if you're poking around the Old Port and looking to check out some unique goods. I feel like this place is the Abacus of style (you Portlanders will know what I mean).
