"Portofino is a charming seafood restaurant, serving items such as whole roasted Dungeness crab, cioppino, po’boys, pasta, and more. The decor and ceiling only add to the restaurant’s allure, and now that you’re in a long-term relationship, you likely won’t mind cracking into a messy crab together. This is the kind of low-key spot that’ll prove you’ve still got some tricks up your sleeve." - Dianne de Guzman, Stefanie Tuder

"There’s no shortage of great Italian restaurants in North Beach, but when it comes to seafood, Portofino earns special praise. The small casual restaurant crouches on Grant Street and cultivates an old-school vibe, in a good way. There’s no website and the best, freshest options are the ones scrawled on the hand-written menu board. Order from the chalkboard list and you’ll be treated to dishes like roasted sardines; whole steaming branzino laid atop a medley of tender vegetables; and squid ink pasta tangled up with chunks of swordfish, saffron, and veggies." - Dianne de Guzman, Lauren Saria

Fettuccine with lobster was my favorite thing I tried here. The lobster was fresh and sweet, and there was a ton of it! The marinara sauce was very flavorful as well, the kind of food where you really want to clean your plate. Frankie is super friendly.

The atmosphere is fantastic and the service make you feel at home. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and for sure it was the best part of the experience here. The food however, did not deliver that much. We ordered the lobster ravioli and it missed acidity and flavors in general. It was bland. And the shrimp scampi was too acidic, and the sauce was not that flavorful. So acid and soaked in sauce that reminded us slightly of a ceviche. But both pasta were ok and fresh, it was just that it missed flavors. The portions are small as well, we left there a bit hungry.

We walked in for dinner. We chose to be seated outside due to the hot weather. Their menu offered a great selection of seafood and Italian dishes. We ordered a few items, and some were great, while others weren't as good. The service could have been better. However, I would come back to try their sandwiches.

cute seafood restaurant in north beach to stop by for lunch on a sunny day. food was pretty fresh and loved the complimentary bread (lowkey the best part). service was quick and everything reasonably priced. sardines: tasty dish but be warned of the bones. liked the garlic oil dip on the side. lobster roll with clam chowder: solid chowder but lobster roll was a little dry. well priced though

This place is a must visit in the Italian section of SF. So fresh. So tasty. So friendly. Small dining room but the manager really knows his fish. Perfect place!

Costco meatballs and grocery store pumpkin cheesecake. Overall very kind and attentive family restaurant. I wanted spaghetti and meatballs and that is what I got. Unfortunately it was not very appetizing. The sauce was lacking in flavor and the meatballs were the frozen ones from Costco. They were generous enough to give me a piece of pumpkin cheesecake which I saw them cut from a store bought container. Maybe their seafood pastas are actually from scratch? Be wary though. Overall thanks for your hospitality. I regret spending $30 on Costco food.
