Portola Coffee Roasters is my top espresso pick when I’m out near SoCo Shopping Center. Always on point. We had an Iced Latte, amazing Banana Cream Matcha Latte and Cappuccino. The atmosphere here is so relaxing. Sitting by the fountain is a huge plus. Staff told me that their slow drip cold brew is a fan favorite. Will have to try it next time.

Google
Decent Coffee. Their blend leans on the fruity. I’m more nutty chocolatey. But glad I gave it a try. Will see how the beans are. Staff seems knowledgeable so went with thier Re/Mix recco for chocolatey nutty will update.

I recently visited Portola Coffee Roasters and had a rather underwhelming experience. I ordered a cardamom latte and an almond butter croissant, and unfortunately, neither lived up to my expectations. Let's start with the cardamom latte. While it wasn't terrible, it fell short of being truly enjoyable. The main issue was that my latte lacked sufficient shots of espresso, resulting in a weaker coffee flavor than I had hoped for. Additionally, the drink was overly milky, which further diluted the overall taste. It would have been better balanced with a stronger espresso presence. Moving on to the almond butter croissant, it was a letdown. The croissant itself was disappointingly dry, lacking the flaky and buttery texture that makes a croissant truly delightful. Perhaps warming it up or using fresher croissants would have improved the experience, but as it was, it did not meet my expectations. Regrettably, this visit to Portola Coffee Roasters was less than satisfactory, and I must admit that it is unlikely I will return. However, I do acknowledge that there is a possibility that I may have gotten the wrong order or that other menu items might be more enjoyable. Despite this initial disappointment, I am open to giving the cafe another chance in the future to try different offerings. In conclusion, my first impression of Portola Coffee Roasters was not a positive one. The cardamom latte lacked the necessary espresso strength and was overly milky, while the almond butter croissant was dry and failed to deliver on its promises. I hope the cafe takes these points into consideration and works towards improving the quality of its beverages and pastries.

I stumbled upon this coffee shop in a clean, modern commercial development with well-maintained walkways and landscaping. It’s located inside a shared building space, with a few bar stools around the counter for seating. It’s not directly visible from the parking lot — you have to walk into the central courtyard area to find it, but the walk is worth it. I tried their Colombian pour-over, and it was excellent. The beans had a bright, tangy flavor with just the right touch of acidity — really brought out the unique character of the roast. The barista seemed knowledgeable and clearly knew what they were doing, which made the experience even better. It wasn’t too crowded, but there was a steady line of people coming through — always a good sign. Recommending if you’re looking for high-quality coffee in a quiet, thoughtfully designed setting.

Always an excellent experience, so glad they are still here after a decade or so. Great fresh roasted coffee!

Google
We ordered coffee, but received pretty embarrassing customer service. The 3 male baristas together decided to delay our order, making it very obvious that they wanted us to wait. Several orders placed after ours were completed before ours, and even after we inquired about our status a few times, they said they were working on it, but clearly were not. I was baffled at first, but then realize that they were probably bullying us for not giving a tip with our order? Or b/c we were minorities? Still unclear since they did not choose to use words to communicate anything but these silly antics. When they finally gave us our drinks, they made amazing foam blobs in our lattes. Wow. I was pretty disappointed by their unprofessional behavior. I expected more from an establishment like Portola Coffee Roasters. If it was because they expected to be tipped before doing their job, they lost out on our custom to tip (generously) *after* service. I would not have put it past them to have spit in our coffees. I have pictures of the 3 baristas, but thinking twice now to post them. I do not wish ill on the 3 men -maybe just to realize that they could make different choices and that their behavior reflects not just their own character, but represents the character of the company that hired them.

Google
Ever since I tried out Portola, I always have to stop by whenever I'm in the area! The real star of the show is the coffee. I ordered an iced latte and was impressed by the unique flavors and smooth texture of the drink. The barista was able to craft an iced latte that was both bold and balanced, with a depth of flavor that I haven't tasted in other coffee shops. Overall, I would highly recommend Portola Coffee Lab to anyone looking for a unique taste of coffee!

Yelp
Amid the delightful enclave of SoCo, Portola Coffee Roasters stands as a beacon for connoisseurs of the coffee craft. My numerous visits have carved a familiar path to this haven where precision and passion brew together, creating cups that never cease to astonish. On my latest visit, the experience was no less extraordinary. Though my photo may capture but a humble glimpse, the latte art, elegantly poured with oat milk, speaks volumes of the skill behind the bar. Achieving such finesse with oat milk is no small feat - its consistency a tricky canvas for even the most seasoned barista. The baristas, always amiable and seemingly in their element, warm the experience. Their smiles are as inviting as the coffee is invigorating, creating an atmosphere that's both vibrant and genuinely comforting. The space itself, spacious and airy, complements the warmth of the staff. It was with a touch of sadness that I learned of their Tustin location's closure, a spot closer to my daily tread. Nevertheless, the SoCo location continues to draw me back with its unwavering quality and the allure of its neighboring shops. The Cheese Shop and Moulin are jewels in their own right, offering treasures that are perfect accompaniments to Portola's exquisite brews. For those yet to visit, or pondering a return, let Portola Coffee Roasters at SoCo be a marked spot on your map. Dive into the nuanced world of their coffee, explore the surrounding boutiques, and savor a moment of pure enjoyment in this corner of caffeinated craftsmanship.

Yelp
The boringly hipster people that work there are irritating. $6 for a small coffee. $6 for a refill. They literally ran after me and yelled at me when I dared step outside and sit at a table with a cheap ceramic mug. They're the only place around so they stay busy.

Yelp
Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Very patient cashier. It is my first time getting coffee at this place. Excellent recommendations from the staff. My friend had what they recommended (I don't remember the name, sorry). I had the Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk. It was really good. Excellent flavor. It was a great experience today at this coffee shop. It was too busy on Monday around 11 am. Both coffees were ready quickly. Excellent service. Lots of seating available inside. I did think that the coffee was a bit pricey, but everything is pricy here at the Soco/The OC Mix shopping mall.

Yelp
Ethiopian beans for some great coffee! I like this coffee- but only the sweet drinks. I have to have my cream and sugar with my coffee. My partner likes the coffee too. We like the freshness and flavor profile. It's freshly roasted. The flavor of the beans is done really well. We buy bags of beans here because my partner loves the flavor so much. I just get the sweet drinks lol

Yelp
Portola coffee roasters was a chic coffee shop with some fun drinks available. They weren't too busy but had a lot of people doing work at their spacious seating area. I got the Rose and Cardamom Latte which was so floral and flavorful. The staff added cute rose flakes on top and were very kind and friendly. The flavor of the coffee was very good, rich and strong. I loved this visit to Portola Coffee Roasters and look forward to my next visit!

Yelp
I got the iced mocha and a cookie from Portola, located in the Soco food market. There was a short line at around 1:30pm. The cookie was pretty pricey at $4-5, but it was a large cookie and definitely satisfied my cookie craving. The iced mocha was quite expensive for the size, as well. I paid $7. I'm not sure if the coffee beans were roasted wrong because there was a bit of a strange sour aftertaste. Other than that, I thought the mocha was pretty good. I'd like to give Portola another chance to see if it was just an honest mistake. Service was great and the cashiers were kind and friendly. They seemed very knowledge and eager to make conversation.

Yelp
Order their flat white with almond milk, it is good. Typical taste of good flat white. 5 stars.

Yelp
Nestled in the back of SOCO & The OC Mix is a buzzing coffee shop, Portola. The smell of coffee in the air was so comforting. Excited baristas provided recommendations and quick service. Here's what I tried: Lemon poppyseed vegan donut: Weak lemon flavor, crumbly. Smaller than the standard donut and expensive. Rose cardamom latte: Slightly messy with droplets on the rim and sides of the cup. I tasted the cardamom and coffee, but am wondering if the worker forgot the rose, because I didn't taste it at all. Other images on Yelp showed rose buds/petals on top - I got none on mine :( I feel like I missed out on a delicate floral aesthetic and flavor. Bummed out.

Yelp
I ordered the limited edition Spring Chai and it's so good! If you like flowers and fruits you will love it. It's a nice break from a latte or even regular chai.

Yelp
For the folks who work from home, I can't praise this location more! Great indoor and outdoor seating. The barista was super cute and I had fun chatting with her, plus she recommended a vanilla + lavender latte which was fantastic. The quality of the coffee here is spectacular and I definitely will be back.
google avatar

Charlotte H.

Yelp
One of the best lavender coffees I had in a while. It tasted like fresh lavender loved the decor and the layout of the coffee shop. It was very clean and the staff was cool and helpful!
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
If you are even a percent basic and love yourself some pumpkin spice, run don't walk to portals to order the Autumn spice latte. Instead of traditional pumpkin, they use sweet potato and this is the best fall spice drink I've ever had! It's taken me a while to work through the portola menu and this is hands down a winner. I did get it half sweet and it was perfection. Herb and Toma danish is meh with a little kick to it. Plenty of seating in the area!

Yelp
Loved this place ! The coffee was exceptionally delicious and scrumptious ! Service is very friendly and there's plenty of sitting. My pastry was so tasty and was recommended by the barista. Can't wait to come back!

Long P.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I really like their coffee. However, this is my second time getting coffee here and they've shorted me. They could've put more oat milk or something just to fill it up but their measurements I guess are too strict. So if you like getting shorted for your money come here. Definitely not worth $7.50 for a cup of coffee.

Yelp
Coffee is decent, but customer service is a bit whatever. I've gone a few times and always leave feeling like i should have gone somewhere else because of how i was spoken to. Like, chill out... if you hate your job that much work somewhere else.
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
The coffee and pastries are so good. If you enjoy specialty coffee and you're in the area, it's a must. The service is always on point.

Yelp
first time visiting portola coffee roasters and it did not disappoint. i loved the vanilla iced latte and it's a great spot to study with a small or large group. there's plenty of seating and there are a lot of other shops inside.

Yelp
Friendly service. Quality coffee. We've explored so many different coffees here and they never disappoint. We appreciate their process.

Yelp
Third wave coffee shop located in SoCo, an indie shopping mall/market in Costa Mesa. Portola is not an enclosed store, but a large island coffee bar, with limited bar seating only. The owner is passionate about serving the finest quality single origin coffee available. They use top tier machinery, and a have a bakery base brimming with pastries from Farmshop (the best bakery wholesaler around). On a weekday afternoon, they were very busy, but the line moved quickly. Unable to resist a seasonal drink, I ordered the Sugar Plum Americano. I should have tried it before leaving the shop, because I did not enjoy it. I could tell that under the cloyingly sweet plum syrup there was good coffee, but it was difficult to drink. The staff were really kind, so I have no doubt they would have made me a new drink. Fortunately, my Chocolate Chip Cookie from Farmshop made up for it; you really can't go wrong with anything from this bakery. I would come here again if I am in the area.

Yelp
The coffee is great...just wish their staff was more attentive. If I order ahead of 2 other people...I would expect my order to be addressed before the customers behind me. They need to improve on addressing orders in a sequential manner and pay more attention to what's going on (especially in the early morning when there aren't many customers in the queue...its much more obvious).

Wm A.

Yelp
Pretentious, slow service with a touch of disdain for their customers, but damn is the coffee excellent.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
Iced Mocha really lacks the sweet mocha flavor. It was bitter mocha powder added to the coffee. Not worth the money. Plus was needing it to be more creamy. I won't come back here again, their ordering and pickup system sucks. I waited on my drink for 8 mins, and they don't call your drink out by your name or any ticket number so someone else can easily grab your drink when they had ordered after you. I requested sweet mocha and its like they didn't bother acknowledge my request, so when the drink was called out, a man try to grab my drink when I saw him order way after me. I don't like how you need to be aware of your drink like that.
google avatar

Uday M.

Yelp
Solid coffee options and fast service. Nice interior and vibe, even early on a Saturday morning. You have to walk a bit inside the complex from the parking lot to find it. The highlight from the drinks was the Pink Bourbon, and the Citrus Olive Oil Cake pastry was also enjoyable.
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
My drink was nice and strong i ordered a vanilla lavender latte with oatmilk. Looking forward to my next visit here. They have several drinks i would like to try. My sister had the chai tea latte and it was pretty flavorful. the flavor was bit too strong compared to other chai teas elsewhere. Purchased a bag of their espresso to try at home.
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
The autumn spice iced latte was great. It didn't have any artificial taste to it. The whipped cream is made with real pumpkin, delicious. The donuts are small but is packed with goodness. On the cakey side but I still enjoyed it. Located inside the OC Mix.

Yelp
So, it's been 10 years since I last posted a review for my favorite coffee place and, while my coffee pallette has matured and been educated, Portola is still one of my top places to go. Unlike so many other Roasters, they don't over roast the beans, which takes away for the inherent sweetness that coffee beans exhibit. I don't do sugar in my coffee, and don't even put a lid on. The better to smell the coffee, I say. I rarely have a pour over now, and my goto drink is an 8 oz Americano. I use that to judge other places as well because if you do that right and balance the acidity with the coffee aroma, you've won me over. Portola has been a training ground for so many barrista that I am finding myself running into alumni all over. Many have branched out and made their own successful brands, which helps coffee culture. Still a huge fan.

Yelp
Ordered iced americano 4.5/5 Cute little coffee shop in the plaza, has indoor and outdoor seating. There are little boutiques in the plaza you can visit and shop at
google avatar

Yelp
Hey can you guys update your Web page so I can see when you have nitro cold brew without having to drive to your store or interrupt another barista with a phone call??? That'd be great....

Yelp
cute lil spot!! it's located in a lil indoor market with many other shops, both food & shopping related! i got a rose & cardamom latte, half sweet & it tasted perfect! i loved the touch of the rose petals in the drink as well. the cashier was incredibly friendly and we got our drinks fairly quickly.

Yelp
I had Portola Coffee Roasters bookmarked for the longest time and I happened to stumble upon this coffee shop when I had stopped by SoCo Farmers Market. [Parking]: Super easy - SOCO & The OC Mix plaza (where Taco María is also located) got a huge parking lot. [Atmosphere]: The coffee shop is located inside of the The OC Mart Mix and it has a similar vibe as other modern food halls. The staff was alright and got my order correctly. [Menu]: The signature drink is Kyoto cold brew as well as some unique combination brew drinks. *** Kyoto cold brew (single origin - $6.50): The drink was not as acidic as I thought and I think it's a solid drink. *** Decent cold brew, but I am not sure I would drive out of the way just for this roasters. I am still a fan of this coffee shop with the benefit of the doubt.
google avatar

Ken S.

Yelp
Great coffee as always. Consistent on the quality. We look forward to our visit to Portola!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
This coffee shop is in the middle of a marketplace and has a lot of sitting area and stores to shop around surrounding it. The latte and cappuccino was really smooth and creamy. The workers were really helpful and patient with our questions. The only downside was that the font have a pastry warmer so if you grab a pastry from them it won't be warmed up.
google avatar

Koko L.

Yelp
Not really sure what happened to this place but I visited today and the staff here (except the girl who was making the drinks) were definitely not welcoming the girl taking our order was so rude just your typical "don't want to be here" "don't care" attitude Portola used to have better staff and better customer service The matcha was really bad but the iced chai was pretty good Anyways I don't think I'll be back to this place since it seems they completely change their vibe
google avatar

Connie V.

Yelp
I love this slightly hidden coffee shop amongst a plaza filled with furniture and home products. You can't get anything better than Portola when it comes to coffee because anything and everything is delicious. Environment - situated in a shared space among shops, this reminds me of an open concept kitchen where the baristas are on a literal island and you can watch them do everything. There are chairs around the bar area right behind the espressor machines, as well as in the surrounding space where it literally is just litered with portola customers - sorry other shops! Service - no one is rude. errbody is so kind. Coffee - try anything. Their beans are bomb and robust. My go-to is always the iced mocha latte (I've also heard that their mocha latte kit tastes exactly like the barista just made it in your house for you).
google avatar

Jasper L.

Yelp
Best cappuccinos!! Just when you think you have had Cappuccinos before and then you have had a mind blowing experience with a Portola Cappuccino and you have never been more madly in love with a drink... this is a cappuccino from Portola. And I don't even like cappuccinos but now I love the one and only cappuccino from Portola

S F.

Yelp
I ordered a small coffee, but two parties who ordered Latte after me were served first. I had to remind the servers if my coffee was coming up. Then one of the servers(female) said "that was funny". The whole experience was not good.
google avatar

Mr T.

Yelp
The coffee is good not great, and pricing is for really great coffee. The atmosphere is nice having a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating and other shops the get lunch or dinner from. The biggest thing that was a turn off for me was how small the sizes are given the high prices.
google avatar

Kimmie L.

Yelp
Espresso/Coffee is life. When I was prego this is the only place that the decaf was on point. I am not as local as I'd like to be to this location, but I was in the area and had to stop by. Uuuuuggggghhhhh! It is still on point. The coffee bean is roasted just right- the lavender doesn't miss and the milk options I have -- I mean common! Even the ice to coffee ratio - Chef's Kiss!

Yelp
Portola Coffee Roasters for the serious drinker... I'm not THAT but I do appreciate the craft behind the cup. BTW, it's a great cup of coffee! Portola Coffee Roasters - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iQpsAO1T_NsJ4oH-89RsCw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Back when they first opened up and I worked for The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity (CJCC), just across the courtyard, Portola was always a welcomed treat. I admit, I do not know a fraction of what many of their baristas know but was always learning something new & different. Here, I was introduced to the Kyoto and now whenever I drop it, it's usually my go-to drink, especially on a warm day. That is, if it happens to be available that morning but sadly no, NOT today. So, instead I went with their freshly made, cold brew, and it hit the spot! Cold Brew ($4.50) - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NO5AuJu9ZFzBDiC9RKfxbA&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ I came by CJCC to grab art supplies for a children's STEAM workshop series that was beginning the following week. It had been a while since stopping in @ the OC Mix and had some time to walk around and enjoy the morning... (sigh) It was nice. I took a seat outside around the fountain in the courtyard as the number of people started increasing. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5MB_Hz2a97jh4YFIq6WjAg&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ Many of them were dining @ the Greenleaf Chopshop; 3 1/2 Stars w/almost 600 reviews. I am not too familiar with the business but they're supposedly known for "health & wellness. An unwavering commitment to provide flavorful & fresh dining options for you & your family." Also, it's quite possibly due to the fact that not many other places were open @ that time. I was tempted to pop-in but I didn't have the time for a sit-down meal. A cup of cold brew from Portola's fit the time slot perfectly. "It's not just coffee, it's a science!" - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=2NAATa7-1WEJjbZzu4cCRQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ One thing I do miss is seeing @ Portola Coffee Roasters is their private coffee tastings which was usually hosted by one of the baristas who would introduce guests to different blends and even their own creations; from what I heard. I was hoping to try & get a seat one day at their private, side room, coffee bar for such a tasting but never did... 'And it looks like because of the pandemic, it may be a while before it's reopened. (But I'm hoping!) HA! Menu Board - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=OUFm8MTxNxacELZnklq0yQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ I'm happy to see Portola is still here and wish them continued success during these challenging times. I may try to make some time to sit, sip, and stay a while either to do some work on the laptop or a bit of café sketching. The OC Mix - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_OfqMrJIInVdHwsgwKFc9Q&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ If you enjoy a nice, good cup of coffee, I suggest stopping by Portola Coffee Roasters for a visit. Do not let all the different items intimidate you, the team is is very friendly and are happy to answer any questions you have. Again, I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I'm not afraid to ask questions either; it's how we learn! Be well, be safe, make it the Best Life! - Big Aloha! Food/Coffee: 4 Ambiance: 4 Service: 5 Value: 4

Yelp
Crowded and the seats aren't comfy. The coffee is on point so that gets my 4 stars. The overall look of the place just looks industrial but I guess that is their target demographic anyway.

Yelp
ABSOLUTE RUBBISH ! When my wife and I head into a coffee shop we are hoping for a friendly welcome, no attitude service and great coffees. Of course every single coffee shop doesn't offer all of the above......that would be like assuming that everyone who owns a smart phone has a brain ! My wife found this coffee bean roaster online a few days ago.....reviews were good so we thought we would give it a try. Our first visit went off without a hitch....2 x Cortados and 12oz bag of their house espresso. It helped that Blake the cashier knew us from another very well known coffee bean roaster...Caffe Calabria in North Park. It's pretty hard to screw up double shot Cortados in a shot glasses...a monkey could do it ! We decided to come back early on Wednesday morning to grab a couple of lattes. The place was extremely busy...people standing around everywhere. Now it's not really a coffee shop...more of a coffee space in the middle of a mall. We stood in line for a few minutes until a cashier named justin listened to our order. I asked for 2 double shot lattes with 2% milk in porcelain cups ( I had spotted a tray of white cups hidden under the counter ). LATTES DO NOT TASTE GOOD IN CHEAP PAPER CUPS ! Of course since covid many coffee shops have fallen back on the...you will get your coffee in a paper cup unless you ask for a porcelain cup model. SAVE MONEY ! Of course paying $5 or $6 for a well made latte in paper cup is bullshit. So justin told me they had only one size cup for lattes...huge 12oz cups. Now ideally...and Justin himself agreed that 2 espresso shots in a latte is ideal in 8 to 10oz cups. I asked for 3 shots in each latte. Justin suggested quad shots....4 shots in each latte. TOO MUCH ! We insisted on 3 shots in each latte and Justin told us we would be charged for quad shots. WTF ! We put almost 2 and a half espresso shots in our 10oz cups at home every morning. WORKS FINE - TASTES GREAT ! So we settled on 3 espresso shots per latte but paid for quad shots for each latte. BIZARRE ! There is no real seating unless what you want to sit at a noisy little counter. We waited around while our lattes were prepared. My name got screamed out ( I was standing 5 feet away ) and our nice looking lattes with latte art were placed on the low counter. We grabbed some packs of raw sugar and headed to a table in the mall some distance away. OH NO ! My very first sip of my latte told me there was not 3 espresso shots in this watery milky soup bowl. I kept sipping hoping I would run into coffee near the bottom. NO SUCH LUCK ! I always enjoy great tasting lattes to to very last drop but I headed back to the espresso counter with a third of a cup. I complained at the counter that my latte tasted like rubbish. A guy...maybe a barista said he did 3 shots..a woman loudly calling herself the manager didn't like my complaint. And I didn't want to deal with her. I don't like being served lousy lattes and I will make a lot of noise about it. If this so called coffee roaster of the year back in 2015 can't make a better tasting latte than what I make every morning at home then get another job. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR FRIENDLY SERVICE AND GREAT TASTING LATTES ! NOTE - I bet I won't be hearing from Jeffrey the owner this time ! NOTE - Of course with over 22 million views of my Yelp reviews and pics in 2022 I can tell you what is great ! MY RESPONSE to the owner's biased and ill informed reply - our lattes were returned unfinished and I said just once that they were rubbish. The female barista yelled at me that she was the manager...I don't respond to that type of attitude. Any 2 shot espresso drink in the appropriate 8 to 10 oz cup would taste great...not the 14 oz porcelain soup bowls that Portola offer.

Yelp
A charming gem for the autumn season! The vegan donuts are cute and BUSSIN!! I don't typically eat cake doughnuts but the apple cinnamon one had me bricked up. It wasn't too sweet or too cake-y, and it was the perfect welcoming to the fall season. The Autumn spice latte was cool, but I just wish it had more pumpkin spice in it. It was also quite expensive for $6.50 and I didn't like the pumpkin whip cream on top. Overall I would recommend if you're near the area and craving some caffeine, but the donut is what I recommend.

Yelp
This is my third time here... The coffee is good, but my experience here has been consistent. They're not very warm and friendly to non regulars. I see them chatty with their regulars, but simply ignore the ones who aren't. I remember first time I came here, I asked for a recommendation, and I got an eye roll from the cashier. Today, I was waiting for my coffee for a few minutes, and it wasn't busy at all. I was on the other side of the coffee bar, and none of the staff told me where to pick up the drinks. I didn't even hear them say that my order is ready. Not very welcoming and seem very snobbish...

Yelp
pretty mid coffee. finding the shop was a little confusing. the entire shopping center doesn't really make sense, but oh well. the staff wasn't very welcoming or helpful. they weren't too familiar with what they're serving so that was a bit concerning. i ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. it tasted like bread. lol not sweet at all, barely any specks of vanilla bean so i'd skip. my boyfriend got a bag of ethiopian beans and was not even offered a free drink like most excellent coffee roaster shops offer when purchasing a $20+ bag of beans. anyways, he got a brewed cup of yemen coffee which was decent. the atmosphere is pretty chaotic. people stand right in front of the pickup side of the bar and it gets hard to reach for your drink so the baristas should tell them to wait by the wall instead of blocking the area. overall, don't think i would visit again.

Yelp
The drinks here are good! Nothing crazy special though, except for maybe the Rose + Cardamom Latte $6.50 They use real matcha in their lattes which is great! (probably accounts for the expensive price $6) The chai latte is delish. The matcha latte wasn't sweet enough initially, but they have a simple syrup bottle where you can add additional sugar if needed. The service wasn't super welcoming and friendly, but they made good drinks so whatever. The location is really cute because it's an excellent place to study or do work. There's a lot of open space and seating + free wifi and relatively quiet during the day with great outdoor lighting. The drinks are a little bit overpriced imo.

Yelp
Coffee and service was wonderful! I really love the vibe of Portola and having a bar to sit and drink but also a dining sit down area. I got the vanilla latte but iced and it was refreshing to sip on and explore the OC Mix. The cookie here was also really good and chewy!

Yelp
I LOVED my Rose Cardamom latte! Service was friendly and quick. I usually travel to Bodhi to get my favorite coffee...but this drink definitely rivals my usual go-to! I work in Costa Mesa a few times a week and am very happy to have found my newest coffee obsession! SO GOOD! Perfectly roasted and the rose petals were the cutest touch.

Yelp
Wanted to meet with two high school friends after 53 years! One of them is a regular here. Kind of expensive. Not as good as Starbucks, but not busy and has quick service.

Yelp
House roasted beans and made-to-order coffee. Cappuccinos were above average and beautifully poured, it makes franchise coffees taste like sh-- because of the more precise timing and temperature used. They have a gift shop section behind where you order and pay with shirts, stickers, and pour over accessories. Picked up the family some bags of beans and they text me to say they were excellent. Portola staff was all super chill, they were always super busy before covid and it's chiller now if you come earlier in the morning. It's in the same building as other fire food destinations likes taco maria and the sandwich place.

Yelp
My coworkers and I frequent the OC Mix often since our office is around the corner. Portola is a nice spot to grab a coffee and work at one of the tables around the area. Service is always lovely and quick. Drinks are consistent and exactly what we want. We love coming here!
