Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype or the Price
We had high hopes for our brunch at Portovino Laval, but unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. We arrived for our 10:30am reservation, starting with a crepe and an omelet, and were looking forward to relaxing with some coffee before getting more food.
To our surprise, at 11:45am—while we were still mid-meal—the waiter approached to let us know we had 10 minutes left before we had to leave, as the next seating was at 12:30pm. This was the first time we were informed of any kind of time limit. Neither during the reservation process nor when we walked in were we told that our table was timed.
After that warning, the whole experience turned sour. We felt rushed and uncomfortable, as if we needed to wolf down our food and get out. That’s not how anyone wants to feel during a supposedly relaxed brunch.
To top it off, after spending $145 (after tax and tip) on what was a very average and now tainted meal, we asked to speak with the owner to share our concerns. Unfortunately—and perhaps unsurprisingly—he showed zero interest in our feedback.
Safe to say, we won’t be coming back, and we certainly won’t be recommending Portovino to friends or family. There are plenty of places in Laval that offer great food and respectful customer service. This isn’t one of them.
