"Asador Portuetxe was once an isolated farmhouse, but now it’s a restaurant in the city’s warehouse district that fires up its charcoal grills each morning with one mission: grill everything. Basques are famous for their grillhouses, which are known as erretegia, and Portuetxe has one of the best menus in town. The grilled fish is excellent, as is the txuleta, a king-sized Basque bone-in steak that’s perfect to split with a group. Sip a classic Rioja red or crisp northern white at the long, family-style tables. You’ll probably leave smelling like charcoal, but just like camping, it’s part of the fun.  " - marti buckley

Great Basque restaurant with a lot of character. Exceptional quality food. Monica was the most gracious host, providing great wine and food recommendations. Everything we tried was very good. Highly recommended! Reservation is a must (use email)

The servers were very nice and kind, which earns the restaurant an extra star. The service was decent, although a bit slow and not as attentive as one would expect for a restaurant in this price range. The real disappointment, however, was the food. Despite the high prices, the dishes lacked effort, were not well cooked, and the presentation was not enticing. The quality of the food did not justify the cost at all. **The bad:** - Over 20 euros for an endive salad with a minimal amount of crab and sad slices of salmon. - Lukewarm chipirones that were just thrown onto the plate. - Overcooked fish with clams (only three clams, not very generous). **The good:** - Kind servers - Good wine list - Tasty bread - Nice dining hall Overall, the experience was underwhelming, especially given the expectations set by the restaurant's pricing and reviews.

What an unbelievably excellent experience we had enjoying the beef, mushrooms, grilled peppers and a magnificent Magnum of vino plus drinks. A must visit in San Sebastián

OMG... I can't say more... this was ABSOLUTELY impressive... a meal to remember all my life. I can still taste the wonders of this meal in the back of my head... Do not ever miss the mushrooms they offer out of the original menu... to die for. We had a bit of all the main things offered and it didn't disappoint. Fairly priced wine and simply delicious food.

Quality food and dining experience! Make sure you get the famous kilo steak on the bone. It was juicy, well cooked and glad we got to enjoy Basque region cuisine. It was recommended by the staff at our hotel. Was delicious and one meal my wife and I will remember for years to come!

I wish that there were more stars yo vote for. Words are not enough. The atmosphere, the views at the estuary, the food but above all, the service, meaning the kindness and profesionalismo of the staff. Made our experience unique. One of the best restaurants that we have ever visited 8n our life. And last but not least, the food was fantastic (go for the fish) but the best thing was its wine list! These people know perfectly how to prepare great tasty dishes.

This hidden gem is truly a treasure!!! The food, ambiance, and service are impeccable, a 10/10. My daughters loved the steak, and my husband and I enjoyed our cod and hake very much! We look forward to coming back again.
