"You know what really pairs well with alcohol? Comfort food, any time of day. That’s precisely why Long Beach’s new Portuguese Bend distillery and restaurant keeps a menu loaded with seasoned fries, burgers, and a mild Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It all works (especially when those fries get loaded with cheese and pastrami), and makes for an indulgent end-of-the-day dining and drinking experience at one of LA County’s most exciting new spots." - Eater Staff

"Long Beach’s brand new distillery, Portuguese Bend, opens on June 18. The nearly 4,000 square foot space is quite a presence on the corner of The Promenade North and Third Street in Downtown Long Beach, which takes inspiration from the Portuguese Bend section of Palos Verdes, a historic place for booze smuggling during the Prohibition Era. With a double batch, 600-gallon system, Portuguese Bend distills its own gin and vodka, and plans to introduce rums and other spirits in the coming months. In addition to a full bar and restaurant, Portuguese Bend offers tastings, educational classes, bottles for sale, as well as beer and wine. There’s even a classic cocktails menu dating from 1916 to 1941 with classics like Satan’s Whiskers, Millionaire, Vieux Carre, Sidecar, and Aviation with gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette, and lemon juice. Portuguese Bend jumps right out of the gates with lunch, dinner, and brunch today. The menu is filled with West Coast and Southern food specialties like burgers, fried chicken, and a recurring prime rib dinner every Tuesday. There’s a rotating dessert menu with seasonal pies, cakes, milkshakes, and sundaes. Portuguese Bend’s owners have a long history within Long Beach. Lola’s Mexican Cuisine and Social List proprietors Luis and Brenda Navarro, as well as Jim Leatherman and Josh Johnson of Long Beach menswear brand, Port LBC, are partners in the project. Simon Haxton is the distiller, as well as an engineer at Boeing. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily." - Mona Holmes

I had a time trying out this restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious as well. I tried the coconut shrimp and it was very good. Their sauces all are house made. I ordered their mule as a drink and our server shared they make their own ginger beer and I would give it a 4/5 for the drink but their to die for cocktail was waaay better. Overall, the service was great, love the ambience and I would definitely go back!

5/5 overall. Highly recommend. Service was amazing and the food and drinks as well. We were sat right away and sever did a great job of communicating and building a rapport. The drinks are fantastic and made their own distilled spirits. From the list of food and looking around the Nashville fried chicken looked great - we didn’t order but seemed like everyone was ordering some variation of that as it comes in chicken tenders, wings or sandwich form. The salad is nothing to die for but a good refreshing plate. The shrimp and grits were good. The Nashville shrimp had a kick to it but given the buttery grits it was neutralised but an overall good combo.

I had no idea Long Beach had a distillery! After coming from WA side where there is plenty I was glad to find this place. They did not disappoint , the drinks I had were amazing and all made there. The food was amazing as well! I sadly did not have a chance to picture the Nashville hot chicken sandy which was my favorite dish, so hot and crispy! It was all gone! I would recommend this place and will be coming back.

Finally got around to checking this place out. The service was great! Our server was so nice and friendly, he told us all about the alcohol and how the place came to be. The drink is the Rosa Collins and it is made with their hibiscus gin. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but it looked pretty! I’ll probably try a different cocktail next time. The food was soo soo tasty! I loved the fried zucchini, it came out cold but I’m not sure if it was supposed to be warm or not! It comes with 6 but I forgot to take the picture before sampling some 😋 I got the Nashville Spicy chicken sandy and it came with fries. It was very tasty and not too spicy.

Had a great experience when we came to celebrate my friend's birthday! Friendly servers and a HUGE list of amazing cocktails made with house liquors, as you would expect. Portions were enormous and they were kind enough to bring a small free dessert for the birthday girl! Loved it.

Great little place. Very noisy inside - all hard surfaces. Friendly staff. I didn't tell me to drink tonight but the bar looks amazing. Had the pork sandwich with the coconut onion rings and it was all really delicious. Worth a visit. Good sized food portion.

Lively restaurant with a solid food menu and cocktails drinks. Big portions too! The salmon was really good and came with veggies and mashed potatoes. Price is standard for a downtown area but I think the quality of the food makes it actually worth it. The space is very open too, I imagine it’s quite nice to eat outside. It was a little loud tho especially because it’s a popular place.

This place has such good vibes, and the staff is a Delight. I was enjoying the IV bag they were serving the Halloween special Rum transfusion in, but the drink itself didn't strike me well. So, when i was resigned to not getting one, i ordered a vodka cranberry, and my friends asked for the Fanciest glass they had. And let me tell you, they didn't disappoint. My vodka cranberry showed up in a tiger! And the i ordered another and it came in a panda!!! When i say I was delighted, that is an understatement. What a fun place. Edit: my server's name was Joshua. You made my night, Joshua!!!
