How Renting an Isolated Cabin Forced Me to Appreciate Silence

"Getaway's Catskill cabins offer a luxurious yet compact experience in nature with amenities like a bathroom, shower, kitchen, sitting area, and a bed. The cabins are designed for millennials to escape urban life and come with curated items like books, tampons, and handbooks for various activities. A highlight is the large window that provides a stunning view of the autumn foliage, making it an ideal place for finding calm and relaxation."

I visited in July 2025 with my partner. We really enjoyed disconnecting and spending time together at the cabin - it was a great mix of true camping feel with modern amenities. For instance, shower water pressure wasn’t great but the water got hot. Cabin is small and cozy - exactly as advertised and what we expected. The “view” isn’t much of a view (it’s just trees) and cabin privacy seems to be luck of the draw. Our cabin location was more private than others along the inbound road, which we really enjoyed. The kitchen was equipped with everything you need to make meals both inside and out, with plates, silverware, and a few utensils. They provided tinfoil and paper towels too. Knives weren’t sharp so ensuring knives are sharp before guests check in would be a great improvement. Our stay came with three bundles of wood and a lighter. We brought charcoal and lighter fluid for cooking and the provided wood was enough for two nights of campfires. Bugs weren’t terrible but we found a citronella candle and fogger bug spray to be helpful. Things we brought and found helpful that you might want to bring too: spatula, measuring cup, and sharper knives. We would definitely return!

This was a great getaway. A small cabin in the middle of the woods with nature and wildlife. The room is basically a small studio with a small quaint kitchen and bed overlooking the wonderful forest scenery. There’s a campfire area right outside the cabin with a bench and chairs to hang outside. You really are disconnected from your phone. You will have no phone service over there and the WiFi isn’t the best either. So prepare to be disconnected from the world. The staff is attentive to your needs and are very nice. I would definitely return.

Buyer Beware! Check prices before committing. The website is deceiving. Holiday weekends are double the normal rate. Watch carefully when booking. Some nights are $260. I did not pay attention when booking and I paid almost $1,000 for only two nights for a two person cabin. Upon arrival, there were ants in the cabin. We overlooked it obviously as we are in the woods. Be sure to bring lots of cooking utensils, and a cast iron pan for the outside fire. There is a 4-inch mirror in the bathroom. No shelving to place anything. The website does say it has pots and pans but you don't find out until you arrive that their pans cannot be placed on the fire. I'd go back but not for $500 per night. Take your time when reserving and pay attention to the pricing and fees. I could've had a 2-night stay in a 5-star hotel for the rate I paid for the cabin.

The room was great, very modern glamping. I wish the table would fold up, it seems many people tried it from the damage it had on the corner. There's not enough room to sit so that would be a good help. I enjoy the stay very much it's good to get away from the city. However I didn't like the business feel of charging for every little thing, made it seem they cared more about the money. I had a similar trip upstate and they gave the smores for free which was a nice welcome. The logs for fire also should be free for the price we payed.

Room are cute but very very tiny. Bed was right next to electric supply panel and the wall was very hot to the touch. Inside at 10pm fires out at 10. "MT view is a hill side from the bed. Like 10 feet and the "view" is in the bathroom. And I had to carry the stuff we brought up 3 flights of stairs.

Cabins were not cleaned. I probably killed about over 10 ants in our cabin when we were there. When taking a shower prepare to flood the whole bathroom. If you’re looking for a view it’s pretty much just rocks and tree branches. For the amount of $ we paid we were expecting more. Do not recommend, spend your money elsewhere.

Everything was very nice. Clean and a little tiny but 2 days isn't bad. Just ask for the most private area. I had a really nice neighbor up from me but below I was listening to tito Fuente music really loud. They finally turned it down 9:30 at night. But otherwise I would go back. Just a bad neighbor one night.

Google
I don’t know why there are bad ratings for this place. This place is unreal and so beautiful. I booked last minute and they didn’t have the cabin I originally booked and they gave me a ton of snacks and fire kit at no cost. Awesome place to get away from the hustle and bustle and relax!

Yelp
Postcard Cabins are a lovely, thoughtful getaway to spend time in nature. Love everything about the concept. No tv's, no laptops, and a special box to place your cellphone to fully immerse oneself into connecting with nature. The cabins are spaced out in a way that you are distanced from other cabins to enjoy time in seclusion. This is a great space to write, journal, meditate, sit in silence, and admire all of the beauty of Mother Nature. Everything you could think of is already supplied in the fully stocked kitchen. The bed is very comfortable, with great quality sheets, the pillows are of good quality. I am very picky with thread count quality of sheets, high quality towels, pillows, and bedding. Postcard cabins get a A+ for the wonderful quality bedding, towels, and pillows. There are signs posted warning of bear. Please be mindful of the rules to keep the area free of bears. Thankfully no sightings during my stay. Definitely recommended to anyone that need time to recharge, reconnect, and reset! Excellent escape

Yelp
I received this getaway/glamping experience as a Christmas gift and had an amazing time! The cabin was located in a beautiful area. Super cozy and warm, and had its own private bathroom and shower. It had everything needed inside, including utensils, a small stove top, mini fridge, and even coffee, hot cocoa, s'mores, and water for purchase. There were some books, a Bluetooth speaker/radio, and cards for entertainment. Each cabin also has their own fire pit and picnic table, which was great to cook a meal or make s'mores.

Yelp
First time tried this tiny Getaway house in the Western Catskill. " Glamping". This is closest to camping I tried. More like a luxury camping with picnic table, fire pit, air conditioner, flush toilet, stove, kitchenette, shower (hot and cold), refrigerator, towels... all ready for me to just go!!! Of course brought food to bbq.... Cabins are like a studio trailer. Huge window facing the woods for the privacy.... Nice distant apart..... we arrived 11pm at night and it was pitch dark had to turn on my cell phone light to see where we were going.... Scary... lol . But once your eyes get adjusted to the dark....so many stars~~~ Had wonderful weekend. It was a surprise bday getaway for my BF and he loved it!!! We booked another getaway in the falls at the Eastern Catskills and cant wait to see the beautiful fall foliage. Cabin comes with wifi! Oh! Don't bring too many stuff, no place to put.

Yelp
If you want to disconnect from electronics and feel like you're in nature but really aren't the "camping" type, this is your spot. We chose the Western Catskills - Roscoe, NY location because reviewers said it was a little more scenic than the Eastern Catskills location. As you approach the campsite and once on property, cell service is very spotty to almost non-existent. This was such a blessing for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children ages 10 & 12). Truly being forced to disconnect is really what we needed to focus and bond. There are phones for emergency use in the cabins and located around the property itself. This really came in handy when we couldn't get into our cabin upon arrival and couldn't call for assistance from our cell phones. Luckily, there was a phone station just a short walk away. The cabins are really tiny houses on wheels. They are only as wide as a queen size bed. They are VERY compact. More compact than I expected. I think it is very manageable for 2 adults but it was a little tight with 4 people. The cabins have almost everything you need for your stay. The only thing missing was a stove top percolator or French press or something similar to make fresh coffee. They do provide instant coffee for purchase but that's just gross. The cabins also have a weird "carpet" on the floor that was absolutely filthy. We know because we took our shoes off and our socks were filthy. They ask for people to take their shoes off before entering the cabin but clearly they don't. It's also not really practical when you're constantly going in and out of the cabin anyway. Vinyl or linoleum would be a much better option and would be easier to fully clean up. Heads up: the cabin we stayed in was in the perfect location within the complex with enough wooded seclusion and privacy. Some of the other cabins, however, were located VERY close to each other. Had we been assigned one of those, my experience and review would be different. Each cabin has an area outside with a firepit with a grill grate, Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, firewood and starters that are charged to you at the end of your stay based on what you use. We brought our own. We enjoyed our stay overall and may return for another visit one day.

Yelp
Beware - we just got back from a stay in upstate NY. Had a mouse running around our cabin (Cindy #2) all night and no hot water for a shower. No sleep and no shower and management didn't even care.

Yelp
Had issues with our stay this week, wrote customer service to tell them (our Heat/AC didn't work, unit was pitched so we slept on an angle, my mom's cabin had mice running around while they tried to sleep at night). They offered me a $50 credit for next stay which is useless because I will not be returning. They refused to do anything else and was not remorseful in us having a terrible stay. Very disappointing when we spent over $600 to stay 2 nights. Would not recommend to anyone.

Yelp
I spent two nights before heading back to work in NYC after my summer break. Upon arrival, the site was just as promised. The cabin was clean with a personalized note welcoming me. There was a local power outage that affected the entire getaway site, but there remained constant communication from management via texts. Caretakers made several trips throughout the site throughout the outage to make sure everyone was doing ok. Overall, my stay was just what I needed- quiet time in nature to regroup and relax!

Yelp
This is our second stay at a Getaway location (prior was Eastern Catskills). They have really upped their game. While the cabins are smaller, they now have; -Real flushing toilets -Air conditioning -Countertop two-burner induction stovetops Our stay was good but visitors should know that the point of the Getaway is to strip vacation down to it's bare minimum. No wifi, no cellular coverage, limited electricity and appliances. Limited retail shops and restaurants in the area (for 20 miles or more). Not much to do in the area other than hiking. Make sure you are willing to disconnect for your entire stay and you will have a good/relaxing time. The prices can get a bit silly considering what the experience is. Prices can get above $250; compare this to under $100 for a hotel with many more amenities, especially in this area. The prices also seem to fluctuate all over the place, sort of like Uber surge pricing. I booked early in the year and found the prices changed over the next few months depending on demand and occupancy. Pro tips: -Check in is 3PM and check out is 11 AM -They will text you with your cabin name and the code to open the door just before your check in time. Since the area has no cellular coverage, you may miss that text if you come in early. Make sure you're in an area with cellular coverage before you check in. -Yes, you can Uber here but you are going to be stuck here for your entire stay unless you come with a car. -They have some snacks available but you really need to bring your own food -The units have mini fridges but there's no freezer (at least in the unit I stayed in) -There are a lot more units on this ex-camground than I remember seeing in the Eastern Catskills when we stayed 5 years ago. There's maybe 30 units here -There's really only enough room to park one car but you could probably find a spot elsewhere on site to put a 2nd car if your party arrives in 2 cars. -There are two types of cabins; one queen bed or two queen beds. If there's 2nd queen bed, it's on a loft above the main queen bed. The loft is best for kids. Older people will have trouble getting up the stairs -My wife pointed out there's no hairdryer in the cabin (but you can bring one, I don't know if it will pop a breaker on the limited power available in the cabin) -If you are looking for the cooking oil, it's in the small cup with the sugar packets! It looks like coffee in a foil pack, but it's oil! We didn't realize this until our last day... -There is a 'landline' phone in each unit, it looks like a Princesss trimline touchtone phone. They don't put the phone number on it but you can call someone with caller ID and get the number- then you can call the cabin directly. -Each unit has a rustic outdoor grill. I brought firewood but they have extremely reasonably priced dry wood on site for you to use. Keep in mind it will take about 20 minutes to get to a point where you can cook food over the wood. -Each unit has a picnic bench and some Adirondack chairs for sitting around the campfire/BBQ -The unit also has a rechargeable camping lantern for sitting outside at night. -Don't be a jerk. There's a little metal plate on the picnic table with text that says not to play loud music or leave a fire unattended or else they will charge you $100 (donated to local conservation charities). -Check out the site map before you go. Your phone won't work when you get there so you need to know which roads are one way only and how to get in/out of the complex and find your cabin. -The roads are gravel and can be negotiated with a car but you'd be better off in an SUV. The average Honda or Toyota could do it fine (maybe not so much in winter) but don't bring your vette or other low clearance car.

Yelp
My wife and I spent our weekend here. It was truly calming and relaxing. Very well maintained cabins and highly recommend them for a peaceful getaway. Everything is hands off and very well organized.

Yelp
We recently spent two wonderfully restful nights at the Getaway House in Roscoe, NY. This is listed as their newer outpost in Western Catskills but note that the design of the lodging areas and units, appear to be modeled the same between both the Western, and their older Eastern Catskills site. I'll highlight some key points first, but read on (and on, and on) if you'd like to get into more details. :) Reservations/Booking : 10/10 Check-In, Check-Out process : 10/10 Cleanliness of Lodging Area : 10/10 Cleanliness Inside Cabin : 9/10 Smell/Odors/Allergens : 9/10 The units are dog-friendly, which may be a sensitive point for some. I hadn't thought of this in advance but I am allergic to cats and dogs, and I think there must've been a guest with a dog prior to our stay because we definitely smelled 'dog'. We considered calling to request a change of units but because the unit was very clean with no signs of pet hair, we just opened all the windows and the door, sprayed some Lysol and gave it some time to air out. By the time we had unpacked, settled in and had the fire going - the smell was pretty faint so we were ok with it. But you may want to specify a request at Booking, if you're wary about this point. Privacy : 8/10 While this Getaway House is all about seclusion and peacefulness, note that you aren't completely isolated in the woods. I for one, was glad that I didn't need to feel scared about the 'lost in the woods' horror movies because there are other units and their respective cars all around. However, we did feel like our neighboring units were a bit too close, where we could, being outside, hear and see one another. Safety : 8/10 It is safe as far as having other units nearby, your car parked nearby, and an emergency telephone inside the unit. And yes, honestly if you're a cabin or camping person, you have to have a certain level of trust when staying in the outdoors, in the middle of nowhere but, technically, any car could drive into the area at any time so it would be so great if they had a main gated entrance by the road with some sort of access restricted to just the guests. Perhaps a fence or gate that opens with an access code or something? Noise : 7/10 We were a bit disappointed with the construction noise throughout the day but we do understand - they've got to make their repairs, and build new units at some point, and so perhaps, there's never a truly good time - just luck of the draw with timing. Included Supplies/Provisions : 10/10 Outside : a Picnic Table with benched seating, a Firepit, 2 Adirondack chairs, a Fire poker, and a Bin with Firewood (and Starters) which you pay for upon use. Inside : A Queen sized bed and all linens/bedding. A small table, a chair. The mini kitchen pretty much has everything you'd need - a pot, a pan, plates, cups, mugs, bowls, knives, can opener, corkscrew, scissors, tongs, utensils and a cutting board. There is a small fridge, no freezer. An electric stovetop with 2 burners, and a kettle. No toaster, microwave or oven. Also, a new dishwashing sponge, soap, and other supplies such as paper towels, foil, garbage bags, etc. There's also a basket of provisions that you pay for use, such as coffee, teas, bug wipes, etc. And freebies like sugar, cream and some little olive oil packets, etc. The compact bathroom has a toilet and shower with towels, bathmat, and even shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The unit has several power outlets and USB ports. A USB charged lantern you can carry outside. AC and Heat. Rules/Guidelines : 8/10 No music outside is a great rule! But it'd be nice if the staff could drive around and promote some enforcement on this. We heard very loud music on several occasions, and once past the 10pm quiet hours. They also have a rule that all fires be put out by 10pm, but we'd have liked to keep it going later. I don't think this would be a big deal, so long as one is abiding by the 10pm quiet time rule - which we absolutely were. Overall : 9/10! We had a great time just unwinding, starting the fire and sitting around taking in the (mostly) quiet surroundings. We cooked every meal outside, using our tabletop and also the firepit grill. We drank wine and took naps, and walks - and drove out to explore a bit of the local areas as well. Overall, we really enjoyed our time and would definitely go back again! Key Tips! Intended and promoted as a place to disconnect - there really is pretty much no cell signal/service here! We got 1 bar on 4G at a very specific spot, literally a 6 inch radius haha. And you won't have signal for several miles out, so you may want to download anything essential beforehand, such as maps, lists, or music, and Netflix content!
