Postino Restaurant

We used to go here all the time, the ambience and waitstaff are great. The drawback came when the prices just kept going up and up and…and the menu didn’t differ. Went back again last night, they were gracious to offer us a late seating if we ordered “simply”. Our waiter said he’d take care of us and order what we’d like. Again, the waitstaff is excellent. I ordered arugula salad with a side of salmon, delicious. $50 (nowhere on the menu to determine what the cost would be). Not a typo. My husband ordered the duck, also delicious. $46. As restaurants keep up with the cost of food I still find it hard to believe the prices were justified. Maybe I’m getting cheap in my old age!

Absolutely terrific. The food, staff, and drinks were all spot on. I was there to celebrate my wife’s birthday with a small group, and the staff made sure we had a fantastic experience. We ordered nearly all the mains (including the eggplant dish), and not one of us had a single complaint—from service to taste. We’ll definitely be visiting again.

Service was absolutely excellent - very well trained and kind staff. Our wine selection was outstanding. In our group, the duck and chicken were fantastic and so was the special seasonal salad. Vegetarians beware: My angel hair pasta was literally inedible. The side of peas came barely warm and definately had the vibe of coming from the lost corner of the freezer. The side of zucchini was blah. I would say this was one of the most uneven meals I have had in a decade. Our server must have known. She was very attentive and yet didn’t ask if I liked it. The barely touched plates said it all. So sorry! This is your place if you like meat and such.

Great as always. The lentil soup was great. The cesars salad is great. Fried risotto was great (except for the added shrimp. I dontbcare for the clear looking shrimp). Halibut, steak, and carbonate dishes were amazing!

Wonderful spot for a quiet lower key date night. Fantastic food, and atmosphere. What I live about the atmosphere is you can have for different dining options. Inside in the main room which will be a little more hustle and bustle, outside, indoor quiet room or bar. Ave they are each distinct experiences

Everything about this place is perfect, every time. The menu, the food, the service... All of it, second to none. I highly recommend the Duck, even if you normally order a Rib Eye.

We went here for my husband's birthday , it was a great little Italian restaurant tucked away in Lafayette. Family run business that use to be a post office (hence the name Postino). Would highly recommend the Burrata and steak

Had to send the chef's first shot at my medium rare $58 steak back because it was well done. Had to send back the second attempt because it was raw/rare. Third attempt got it right. Server assured me that the first attempt was medium rare in the middle of the steak. I wondered how much of a well done steak I would have to eat through before getting to the part in the middle that was medium rare. First time in 5+ decades that I have ever had to send something back once, let alone twice!

Food was excellent ! Specially the Vongole which we absolutely loved. Additionally Service was Great , Antonio recommended us a wine that paired perfectly with our steak (Thanks Antonio, you are amazing!) . We sat outside in their cozy and charming patio, which added to the wonderful experience. Gia

Our favorite restaurant in Lafayette, every dish has been prepared perfectly. Service is very friendly and attentive. They rotate calamari and fried portabello mushroom strips. both outstanding and both need to be permanent menu items.

Wonderful American Italian menu in a cozy stone building with beautiful outdoor patio. My family had a birthday gathering where food, service and ambiance were amazing. Wine menu is incredible by the glass or bottle at very reasonable prices. Staff is superb - friendly, attentive and fast. This is a must-dine location if you're in the area.

Delicious food. Service was nice. We dined in a room near the front door. The wine list was extensive. Everything we had was very good. I enjoyed the strawberry salad. No dessert though because I was stuffed form the bread, the apps, and the double cut pork chop. This place feels old world, and like it's been part of Lafayette for about a hundred years. The slate roof and the 45* roof pitch made this place kind of magical.

Food was great 10-10 Service lacked no attention to detail I need to tell them to clean the table from all the crumbs which would is a given. 5-10 Terrible service and it's usually amazing.

I took a star off as they sent our wonderful server home, before the end of our meal. The substitute had an attitude that was not appreciated! Four of us dropped in for lunch. Sat outside. No heaters and a little chilly. We shared a burrata salad followed by two pastas. Large enough servings to share. The food was delicious and appreciated, especially the two sauces. One has to ask for the Acme bread which came with some kind of lovely herbal butter. We ordered coffees with 5e substitute server - and got an unexpected attitude! Recommendation: will definitely return!

We came on a Sat. with 5:00 reservation so it was not crowded. There is parking available at that time. For appetizers we shared the mushroom fries - boy it was fantastic! If you like fries and mushrooms - it's a combination of that. Mushrooms lightly coated and fried over some mayonnaise based sauce. I had Garganelli - rabbit with pasta, was delicious, just slightly salty, rabbit had a few bones (so be careful as I did not expect that), pasta not served soft. Hubby had Fish Stew which was also delicious and again for his taste just slightly too salty. Bread was also delicious with flavored butter. We asked for refills. As stated on menu, you must ask for bread, it's not automatic. (This seems to be the trend at many Italian restaurants.) Service was fantastic. Empty plates taken away almost immediately. Water glasses refilled and never less than half full. Restaurant does tend to be a bit noisy. Cost: definitely a restaurant for special occasions. Our total costs for the shared appetizer, garganelli and fish stew was just under $99 not including tip. (No drinks, just water - we do not drink.) Help yourself to a few small hard candy in a bowl on your way out to slightly sweeten the end of the meal. Summary: very pleasant meal with pleasant waiter and attentive staff.

The dinner was great here and so were the drinks. They have a great selection of wine, pastas steaks, and seafood. The appetizers are delicious. Sometimes we dine indoors sometimes we dine out I highly recommend.

We came for a private event and ai enjoyed it but was generally underwhelmed. I guess for the price I expected better. The food was good. Better than okay but not great. The service was slow. They had drinks flowing but it took foreeeeeever to get seated and place our orders. The salad was fine. What to say. It was a salad. Didn't rock my world but was a nice start. The eggplant parm was good but it was such a small serving. The chocolate cake for dessert was the highlight. The restaurant is beautiful but the private room wasn't as nice either. It felt cramped for 20 people and was SO LOUD you couldn't hear the people across from you even shouting. Anyway. It's an overpriced meal in my opinion.

What an evening and experience! I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about POSTINO, the staff and what would turn out to be the perfect date night. We started with a cocktail, cucumber elderflower cooler and the new old fashioned, I'll let you lookup the website and menu information for the ingredients, trust me, it's worth the clicks. (Rosemary?? yes it worked) Executive Chef, Stewart Beatty and company started us off with an amazing Burrata that had a san marzano tomato jam that will set the tone for an evening of a culinary experience that is simply elevated beyond anything you will find east of the city. Our next course, which I simply forgot to take pics of because I was so excited about the journey we were on already, was a beautiful Caesar Salad that had a Parmesan crumble that was delicate and packed with flavor, and a creamy tomato soup that was so smooth, velvety and decadent that Tiffany was scraping the bowl, along with every table around us, until the last spoonful was gone. Moving on to the main courses, Spaghetti (‍forgot to take a pic of this too), carbonara style, with pancetta, english peas, white wine cream sauce, sheared egg and parmesan was the choice for my gorgeous companion, and braised short ribs with provolone polenta, English peas, onions with a veal reduction was the perfect plate to top off the night. Just when you're about to tip over, you find a little room tucked down there somewhere to enjoy the perfect way to end a more than memorable evening. A perfectly executed Affogato, a house made biscotti ice cream, and a delicious pear, Gouda, honey and cinnamon walnut platter. Filled to the brim, you sit back and revisit every aspect of this nothing short of perfect evening. From the ambience and impeccable service, to the sheer beauty of the food that was put in front of you. Needless to say, Postino in Lafayette, Ca is an experience that each and every one of you should have.

Ambiance: 5stars Service :5 stars (so friendly, attentive, accommodating and did not pressure or rush us) Food:5 stars : Handmade pasta done well , servings were more than satisfying. The flavor of my rabbit pasta was a wonderful tomato based sauce with al dente pasta. Some of the best calamari too! Price is reasonable for an establishment like this. I'm definitely going to be a repeat visitor.

We arrived early and our table wasn't ready so we sat outside on the front patio and waited. The weather was nice so the wait was very pleasant. Our table was right in front of the open kitchen which provided a very entertaining view of the kitchen hustle and bustle during the dinner rush. The chef was definitely in charge and obviously stressed. The food, service, and ambiance were all wonderful. Parking is easy. Would definitely recommend.

The wife took me here yesterday for a great lunch it was my birthday lunch great service . I had a rib eye steak really tasty. Wife ordered the veggie flat bread I had a piece of it very good I would order it again. The steak was cooked just right with mashed potatoes and sauté mushrooms delicious all in all I would recommend this place it wasn't very busy because of the weather . The free valet parking is nice but it's actually not free you still need to tip the guy five bucks especially in the rain anyway try this place nice place to have a birthday lunch

We love this place. Always a good time and great food. Service is always exceptional.

This is the perfect spot to host events because they have areas for large groups. I had a work dinner here, and it was great! There's a room with a screen so you can give presentations, just make sure you bring your own projector! I think they have hdmi cables you can use. It's priced fairly well for large groups as well. We did a fixed menu for 18 people, which included salads, entrees, desserts, and several bottles of wine. All that in a private room with a private server, and it amounted to about $125 per person (already including tip and fees)! The food here is standard, it's not mindblowing but it's still pretty good and there's options for everyone.

I made a reservation for lunch today at 2:30. The place closes at 3pm. So the restaurant was practically empty. But we got seated all the way in the back next to the restrooms. I don't understand the reason (I could guess). Never going back again.

Has the ownership and/or chef changed?? We've been coming here for years and it's been going downhill every visit. The most recent visit, we have vowed to never return again (but that's hard for me to say because we LOVED this restaurant!!!). The menu used to be heavy Italian with pastas, etc. The current menu has limited pasta and is kind of random. We were informed they changed to their winter menu - but who would take off lasagne for the winter menu?? The rabbit pasta, which used to be a "go to' has gone downhill. Pasta was "crisp' (a few minutes from al dente). Eggplant Parmesan - zucchini underneath the eggplant was definitely undercooked. Short ribs - first of all - $62 for short ribs?!! It better be perfect! The taste was phenomenal. The disappointment was that there was a ton of fat in the short ribs so that maybe only half of the dish was edible. To top it off, our waiter had so much of an attitude that every time he came over, he'd say "everything still tasting terrible?" (he thought he was joking - we're all thinking, um... It is kind of terrible but we didn't want him to take anything off the bill so none of us said anything). Based on this experience, I don't think any of the 4 of us will return, however, I love the ambiance so much - as well as the potential for what it used to be, that I might return... But it won't be for at least a year.

Holiday season is back! Dinner at Postino. "Spring rolls" stuffed with fontina and butternut squash with a brown butter dipping sauce. Portabello mushroom fries with a truffle sauce- sooooo good! Everyone's fav and so unique. The pear salad was an explosion of flavor -sweet but not too sweet. The soup of the day was a lentil sausage soup. I enjoyed the arugula salad, lightly dressed in lemon and parm with fried capers (genius!!). Main dishes were the penne with sundried tomatoes, sausage, and potatoes. The stars of the night were the handmade rabbit garganelli pasta and the eggplant parm. LOVED the eggplant parm!! A very light dish- grilled zucchini, crisp fried eggplant and a light tomato sauce. Service was fantastic! Great cozy atmosphere. A perfect special occasion place.

Excellent service and delicious food with fantastic ambiance. I've been there for corporate events and personal dining many times. They have valet parking.

We went there Friday with reservations @ 6pm. When arrived we were seated towards back, near outside dining where cold wind blowing on us. I order Salmon ($42) which was raw & couldn't eat it, even though my food came last to my table. The Menu is limited & over priced.

Postino was an elegant and classy dinner experience. Located in downtown Lafayette, it was easy to find, plenty of parking on a Friday night, and we got sat right away (my friend had made a reservation, but I'm not sure we actually needed it because it wasn't very crowded). The environment inside was a little bit dark, which was okay since it was nighttime. Just keep in mind it's not a bright place if you're trying to look at anything while you're there. The food was very tasty. I was having a hard time deciding between two pasta dishes so the waitress suggested I order two half orders of the pasta, and that was such a great idea! I'm glad I did it. I ended up really liking the capellini and I would order that the next time I go there. The other one I ordered was a pasta with a vodka sauce, which was also good, but a little more heavy than the capellini. I was very impressed by the setting here as well, it seems like a beautiful place to have a wedding or reception. I am hoping to have a reason to go here again!

Food, Ambience, Customer Service FIVE PLUS STARS!!!!!!!! Server: Heather is a sweetheart!!! Excellent customer service and very attentive to our needs!! Food came out piping hot and timely!!! Busboys: Very Attentive on picking up empty dishes, refilling water glasses!!! I LOVE Lentil soup and steamed clams and both were Ahmazing!!!! Pear salad was Delicious and tossed with the perfect amount of Vinaigrette!! Rest of food: Bread and the garlic butter-YUMMY!!!!! Mushroom fries, Rib eye, Chicken Cacciatore, Meatball Special, Caesar salad,-ALL DELISH!!!!! First time eating " Mushrooms fries" and it wont be my last!!!! Alcohol-Polar Express, New old Fashioned and Spicy Margarita!! LETS just say the "Bartender" KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A DRANK (Slang for a damn good drink)!!!!! Enjoyed a delish dinner with family!!!!!

Excellent food and service! Couldn't recommend it more. We came with the whole family and our waiter was so attentive and nice. He was on top of everything we needed, often before we even asked. His suggestions and tips were perfect for our meal and we loved everything down to the dessert. The entire staff were very nice and had great service overall The mushroom polenta and the eggplant Parmesan are my favorites, as a vegetarian and the rest of the gavel loved their filets. And our entire table obsessed over the mushroom fries. Btw the cocktails are strong so beware lol

29 years ago my husband and I had our wedding reception at this restaurant (under a different name) yet the feel, food and service were as high quality almost three decades later! Romance was in the air and I remembered every moment of that August day. Friendly wonderful staff.

I wanted to share with you my recent dining experience at Postinos in Lafayette. My wife and I had a fantastic date night there, and we highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great food and a good atmosphere. During our visit, we split the ribeye steak and pasta, and we were blown away by how outstanding the dishes tasted. We also enjoyed some excellent wine and drinks, which made the meal even more memorable. Overall, we cannot speak highly enough of Postinos in Lafayette. From the outstanding food and service to the great wine and drinks, it's the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. We hope you get the chance to experience it for yourself soon.

Sad to say this place was one of my top go to places but now it's over priced , small portions and the food quality is average. Won't be going again

A shoutout to BRIAN. His service went above and beyond last evening at our birthday dinner. First, he pre-heated the outdoor space heaters for us, so when we arrived at our requested outdoor table the area was warm and toasty. This is a high end pricey place to eat. 4 of us for dinner, bill came to 429 dollars. Part of it was 2 bottles of expensive wine. Sometimes you have those moments and times with friends where you just don't care that it is so pricey. What did we get for our money? Tasty food and stellar service. Not just from our server, but from any of the staff that came near our table. They did not hover, but worked as a team to bring us a relaxed dining experience that you just don't see that often. It was a capper for a special day with friends to have a really fine dining experience and Postinos did not disappoint in any way. All 4 of us were left with the feeling that we would need to return when back in the area. A well deserved 5 star experience. Parking was easy. Meters only charge until 6 pm, and we only had to pay for 30 minutes. We were there about 2 hours. *all smiles*

Invited for friend's BD party. Very beautiful private room, wonderful food. Most of all, Holly is the best and most accommodating waitress!

although I do not have pictures of the food or wine to share, I can say that our server Brian was excellent and the food was excellent as well. So all in all with the food, service and the ambience being excellent this was a definite 5 star dining experience for me, and six of my buddies from San Francisco and Cal. They had excellent appetizers and salads for main courses we enjoyed the halibut, the ribeye, and the salmon, as well as an excellent selection of wines!

Just had a special luncheon at Postino. Chef Brian is a genius, the food , service and ambiance are superb. Definitely best restaurant in the East Bay.

My companion and I went to Postinos for Christmas Eve dinner, she had the salmon and found it delicious and I had the ribeye steak dinner which I also enjoyed. This restaurant is very good, but little pricey. It ends up being around $100 each with drinks. dessert, tax and tip

We love Postino! It has been one of our favorite restaurants for many years. Where else can you get fantastic food and excellent service in such a beautiful and iconic building? I would recommend visiting Postino for any occasion. It has it all!

Delicious food. Outdoor patio is a lovely place to have lunch. Service is attentive. Our gathering of 8 enjoyed the appetizers, entrees and desserts ordered.

First time at Postino's and can't wait to come back! Justin, our server, was amazing! Food was delicious! Best date night we have had in awhile! Everything was fresh & full of flavor! Justin recommended the short ribs, they were excellent! Especially with their garlic potatoes! I wish I could have the burrata daily! Highly recommend! The food and service were fantastic. But the whole experience took a dive when we were waiting for our server to process our payment. We were catching up after a long time of not seeing each other and having a relaxing evening. We were waiting to get the bill processed when a woman came to our table. She informed us that we must leave because the next table who had a reservation arrived. Maybe she was stressed out but she was not present. What a disappointing ending to a beautiful night. Luckily, we didn't give her permission to ruin it for us but it left a sour note. Mostly because she should have paid attention that we were leaving and came by to say, thank you and hope to see you again. Relationships are everything ...

This is a fantastic place to dine for the evening. The atmosphere is wonderful and inviting. The service is top notch and friendly, so it makes for a memorable occasion to dine with friends and family.

Decent Italian food, for sure - but I thought the ambiance was a bit pretentious (the first time I tried visiting, the hostess sort of scoffed at me when I said I didn't have a reservation even though nobody was there at the time). The dishes were really expensive for the food so I didn't feel like it was particularly good value. If the prices were lower I might rate it higher, but I thought the enjoyment to cost ratio was only so-so.

Took my family for dinner last night for my 75th Birthday. We enjoyed drinks from there fabulous bar, and ordered all the appetizers, clams were so delicious, flat bread was wonderful, calamari wow and there Cheeze Garlic Bread was over the top. Then dinner Duck, Salmon, Ribeye Steak, Eggplant Parmigiana. They were so spectacular, amazing taste and the presentation was awesome. I had the Duck and it was by far the BEST I have ever tasted. We on to the finishing touches Cognac selections are over the top and deserts were wonderful chocolate decadence and coconut banana cream WOW!!!! With all this out Server and his helpers were so attentive to our every need. You folks were the greatest. The old Lafayette postoffice converted to the Wonderful Restaurant is amazing, the restoration of the fire place and the old Brick makes this place special. Also I never had a problem hearing conversation, We plan on Making Postino's our go to for dinners often for more special occasions and on a regular date night with my Beautiful Wife. Drove by this restaurant many times and finally decided to try it. Was very impressed. Ambiance was great. Our server, Antonio, made the whole meal very enjoyable. His sense of humor was great, he was good at his job and made you feel comfortable and welcome. The appetizers were very good, clams and duck wings. I was disappointed when the menu was a little different than what was on website. I wanted the duck, but it wasn't on menu. I settled for the salmon and my husband has the short ribs. The salmon was from New Zealand and wasn't as flaky as the salmon we get locally. Dessert was excellent. We would definitely go back again.

Rick!!! Such an amazing person and server. We came here and enjoyed every single thing about this wonderful restaurant. I'm glad they don't take online reservations and only take them via phone (anything to keep the hordes away). It's an intimate and quaint little spot and we randomly spotted it and came in on a whim and were so glad they were able to accommodate. We saw that people were here for special family gatherings and it was wonderful seeing grandparents with gifts ready to give to their grandchildren at the table and people brought their own wine to enjoy. What an incredibly fun place and so homey. The food was absolutely stellar as well. I had the short rib and the wife had pasta. Everything was well cooked, seasoned and delicious. We will be bringing our own wine here next time and actually we're going tonight again (last visit was a few months ago)... which prompted this review and wonderful memories of the last visit. Few restaurants have this special of a charm as Postino... I certainly hope it stays this way forever!
