Visiting Postojna Cave during the Christmas season is something truly special. The cave itself is stunning year-round, with its impressive limestone formations, but during the holiday season, it gets an extra layer of magic with a live nativity scene set up inside. It’s a unique and unforgettable experience to see the nativity in such an unusual setting, surrounded by the cave’s eerie yet beautiful rock formations. The cave tour is self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace while taking in the breathtaking views of the underground world. The Christmas nativity really adds a special touch, with peaceful lighting and music creating a magical atmosphere that’s hard to beat. Waiting for the train at the end of the tour gets super crowded and it can take a long time before you want leave.

An Unforgettable Experience! Visiting Postojna Cave is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The cave is a breathtaking natural wonder, with stunning stalactites and stalagmites creating an otherworldly landscape. The train ride through the cave is both thrilling and well-organized, offering incredible views of its vast chambers and intricate formations. The guides are professional and knowledgeable, providing detailed explanations in multiple languages, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. One highlight is definitely the “Brilliant,” a dazzling stalagmite that truly lives up to its name. The entire complex is thoughtfully designed, with excellent facilities, including restaurants, souvenir shops, and rest areas. Parking is convenient, and the entry process is smooth, avoiding unnecessary crowds. I highly recommend booking tickets in advance, especially during peak season, to ensure your visit. This is a must-see destination, and every moment spent here is worth it!

We visited the caves as a day trip from Ljubljana. We knew very little about them, but it sounded like a fun thing to do. We were blown away by the size, beauty and interesting geology. We’ve been to other caves for tours (Wind Caves in US, San Jose Caves in Spain), but the size of the caverns and the great structure of the tour in Postojna caves really impressed us. The tour is 90 minutes long, partly done by train cars, partly walking. If you have issues walking up and down slopes it could be tough, but otherwise the walk was relatively easy. Guide tells you about the history and geology of the cave throughout the tour. There is an audio guide, but I think the guided tour is better. Tickets should be booked in advance, we were lucky we were there in winter and early in the day so our group was small. Towards the end of the tour you get to see the type of “baby dragons” that live in the caves. They have a couple of them in a special aquarium. There is a special Christmas event with a living nativity staged throughout the cave, we won’t be around when it happens (Dec 25-30th), but it sounded great.

The cave is very extensive with many large halls. The electric train takes you deep into the cave system. During the approximately 10-minute ride, you can enjoy additional cave spaces. The beauty of the cave, enriched by the train ride, creates a unique experience.

Postojna Cave in Slovenia is an impressive natural wonder and an absolute must-see for any visitor to the region. With its approximately 24 kilometers of cave passages, it is one of the largest and most fascinating stalactite caves in Europe. The combination of spectacular formations, underground rivers and unique wildlife, including the famous human "salamander", makes the tour unforgettable. The guided tour is superbly organized, and the one-hour train ride through the cave ensures convenient access to the most impressive areas. The lighting perfectly highlights the beauty of the stalagmites and stalactites. The area around the cave is also beautiful, with plenty of hiking and recreational opportunities. All in all, Postojna Cave is a fascinating experience for nature and history lovers - highly recommended!

Stunning cave and well kept without much human destruction to it. The train ride in and out was super fun and chilly. The guide explains about how the cave is formed and there is a post office at the end of the cave. Easy walk on well paved paths. Can't get lost inside because there's only 1 way in and 1 way out. Just follow the path.

We really enjoyed the tour. The caves we visited were very well maintained and the tour was very well organized. The walking in the cave was a unique experience specially seeing all those beautiful dolomites.
