A Barbecue Restaurant Closes at Town Square - Eater Vegas

"Barbecue restaurant Pot Liquor has shuttered at Town Square, for a surprising and unpredicted reason. While rumors circulated that the restaurant planned to close before the end of last year, the Southern Nevada Health District pulled the plug on the space for “non-payment of permit fees” in 2017-2018 on Jan. 22. The restaurant phone number is no longer accepting incoming calls. Pot Liquor has yet to address the forced closure, making no mention on its website, social media pages, or still active Grubhub account. Town Square also still includes the 6,622-square-foot corner restaurant on its own website. It remains unclear if the shut down will become permanent. The restaurant was last visited by the health district on Dec. 22, passing a re-inspection with a C grade. Launched in 2014 as Pot Liquor CAS, an abbreviation of “Contemporary American Smokehouse,” owners Flip Arbelaez and Doug Bell changed the name to Pot Liquor Smokehouse Barbecue in June of last year. Peach, mesquite and cherry woods smoked the meats for up to 12 hours inside the “Big Hank” smoker. Doug Bell, 37, the chef behind the Southern-style cuisine, unexpectedly died last September." - Bradley Martin

This 4/5 is specifically for the awesome Pulled Pork Nachos and for our friendly waitress. Other parts were less impressive. My friends and I visited on a Saturday just after 3p during Happy Hour. The place was basically empty except for a few people at the bar. My friend Ms. S and I decided to share the Pulled Pork Nachos while Mr. E went for the Smoked Wings with Fries (both on the HH Menu). The Nachos were awesome because they were totally loaded with some great cheese sauce and the flavor of the BBQ Pork was sweet and delicious! While I didn't get to try the wings, I did try the fries - they had nice seasoning, but the fries themselves were just fine. I really wanted to try the ribs, but I certainly didn't want an entire half rack let alone all the sides that came with it. I happened to notice that the children's menu had a two rib meal. I asked the waitress if I could order off the kids menu and she said no. So I asked if I could "order for my son" (my six month old). She checked with the management and got the go-ahead! However, the ribs were brought out by a woman from the kitchen who seemed extremely upset by the fact that I'd ordered from the kids menu. She looked at my nursing son and said, "This is for him?" I thought she was being funny, so I laughed and said, "He's a big eater!" (which happens to be very true). She rolled her eyes in the most aggressive way possible and sarcastically said, "I bet." and walked away. I just thought it was sad that they let me order and then had to be judgy and mean about it. If it was that big of a problem, they could've just told me no. Also, the ribs weren't very good. Next time I would definitely skip these and try something else. Ms. S and I also shared the brownie Bread Pudding, which I found pretty disappointing. For my tastes it wasn't as rich or as sweet as I wanted it to be. Despite some problems, I would return for HH, get the Nachos again and try something new!

This place smells great when you first walk in. Only a few tables were taken so we were able to get a table right away. Even though there were more people seated at the bar than at the tables, there was no bartender around. The server brought out the regular menu and the small brunch menu. We ordered the nachos for the appetizer. I ordered the smoked brisket hash with scrambled eggs from the brunch menu. The portion sizes were good. The flavor of the food was OK. The plain layer of brisket was a bit plain. The brisket needed something like possibly some barbeque sauce on the side. The overall service was OK. Our server stopped by several times to check on us. The parking lots were full, and this place was relatively empty. I wonder where else everyone was going.

Been here several times along with many other BBQ joints around town and pot liquor is up there with the best of them. The service was acceptable the food came out hot and was delicious. I definitely recommend it if you're in the area

Food was okay. Had a bit of sticker shock. Gave a good portion but I was less than impressed with the taste of it. Service was decent.

Pretty good barbeque, but they were pretty much out of everything else

We had Beef & Cheddar, Sweet Potato Fries, KC Style Burnt Ends and Corn Succotash. There was a thing wrong with our meals. Fast service, friendly service and the food arrived hot!!! Would go back in a minute if I didn't live in Michigan. A friend who lives in Las Vegas took us to this place! Also the prices were great!!

I've been here for lunch a few times so I can't speak to dinner, but the food I've had has been great. Atmosphere is very nice, this is a modern space in Town Square so it's a bit commercial but nicely done. The pulled pork and brisket are delicious, the cole slaw is basic but good. If you're looking for a well done, consistent BBQ place, look no further. If you want something that feels more homey and unique this might not be it. The lack of options on the lunch menu (only four items), and the somewhat aloof service knock this down to four stars for me.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. I wasn't expecting to find great BBQ in this part of the country, but this is pretty legit all in all. The brisket was good, the spareribs were really good, and the baby backs were excellent. The candied yams were just like my grandma made, and the green beans were perfect. Just the right amount of salt and still crisp. I highly recommend.
