Google
I've been coming here for over a decade and getting the poutine. They knock it out of the park every time! 10 out of 10, perfect, wouldn't change a thing.

Logan Deno

Google
I went here like 4 months ago, but I still dream of it every single night. Seriously the best poutine I've ever had and it isn't even close. Highly recommend bringing your friends, your family, your coworkers, your pets, anyone who you think is worthy of tasting heaven. 10/10 will be coming back.

Mike Velo

Google
I eat poutine everywhere I can find it. I've driven from coast to coast in Canada eating every one I can find. This one is decent. The fries are properly twice fried and they give plenty of genuine fresh cheese curds (I paid $2 for extra and it was a good value). It was not squeaky but you don't get that often outside of Quebec or Wisconsin anyway. My only gripe is with the gravy. I ordered the beef gravy and it tasted like no other beef gravy I've ever had. It tasted strong like herbs and mushroom but not beef and it was strangely clear. I asked if they had mistakenly given me the vegan gravy, but the person said it was in fact the beef. I still have my doubts but whatever. I doubt I'll go back but it was worth a try. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it if they are in the mood for poutine, it's pretty good.

Kristi

Google
Loved the poutine. Have tried it at other places and wasn't a fan. Here it was delicious! Highly recommend. Also very willing to make accommodations for dairy-free.

I understand the PBJ fries were novelty but they were just average to me. It had flavor and spice but it's not something I'd order again. I'd recommend people to try for themselves and I may come back to try something else when I'm in town but I wasn't blown away. Not too good and not too bad.

Mike

Google
The first two times we came here the food was good. However, today the cheese wasn’t even melted (at all) and their serving size was smaller than our past visits. It was warm but definitely not hot. I was sorely disappointed and am not sure if I will return.

Josh Davis

Google
Tried the poutine. Vegetarian gravy was delicious. I didn't really care for the fries. Cheese curds were decent.

Alexandra Anderson

Google
The PB&J Fries here are UNREAL! I’ll admit I was skeptical but I’m so glad I decided to try them anyways. Such a fun combo of sweet and salty. The atmosphere of Cartopia food pods is a great backdrop to this delicious food.

Yelp
Jan18,2025 review: I tried something very unique here, for the first time in my life- palak paneer fries. Lot of palak gravy spreaded over grilled paneer and fries. Portion size is huge, definitely recommend sharing this. If you are familiar with palak paneer curry taste- it would taste just like that. Only difference is instead of Naan/roti, in this form you are eating with crispy fries. Photo was clicked in night so the best click but just for reference.

Yelp
I have been an eater of potato champion from the beginning, I was in Alberta's circle. I stopped by about 6PM 2/15 for a Palak Paneer take home . Somewhere along the line the recipe has changed by adding hot spice to the potatoes. I had to throw it out. Hot spices are an easy customer add-on at the cart or at home. Potato Champion's email hello@potatochampion.com and their phone number (971) 201-6179 are not working. "Your message wasn't delivered to hello@potatochampion.com because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail." So we shall just have to communicate by star messaging. It is an honest and accurate review and rating.

Yelp
Not a ton of poutine spots in Portland so we were surprised that there was one here. Although I do not have extensive experience with poutine, Half my family lives in Canada so it's always exciting to find a poutine spot. My wife and I decided to share a regular poutine. The fries and gravy were perfect, but I felt that the cheese curds were too cold so they didn't quite melt into the fries or gravy.
google avatar

Devon D.

Yelp
a photo can NOT do these fries justice. I couldn't decide which fries to try so they let me do a 2 in 1 -- Satay Poutine & Palak Paneer Fries. The staff was kind and as someone who is GF, I really appreciated being able to choose from ANY item on the menu. A luxury for a celiac!
google avatar

Neil O.

Yelp
Great customer service. Unfortunately the standard poutine was a bit too salty and with a tip costs around $15.00. Fries, gravy and pretty generous portion of cheese curds should not cost this much IMO. Probably catering to the late night inebriated crowd.
google avatar

Samyoul S.

Yelp
Really friendly and quick service. Everything was fresh, good fries and curds were melty. Can't really justify the price though. Gravy definitely has a slightly different flavor but I think it worked!
google avatar

Loi M.

Yelp
Just got the classic poutine as I was craving it. I love how much gravy they drench it in! For the price, I do wish they added a bit more fries; I feel like I was cut short, haha. Service was good too, and ambiance was cute since it's in a food truck plaza. Will definitely come back to try their special poutines!
google avatar

Tannu S.

Yelp
Fries elevated. Fries could be more than a side and that's this place is all about. I have tried poutine, satay poutine and palak paneer version. All three as vegetarian option and were good. The portions size is huge and good for sharing. The service is quick and ambiance is casual as it can get with community seating, cozy with fire. They are open until late. If you are craving for a twist on a fries, this is the place to be.

Yelp
Hey. Do you want some fries with that sodium? That pretty much sums up the food experience at this food cart. I honestly wished I had a similar experience as the other reviewers but was disappointed once again :( FOOD As the intro suggests, the food here was extremely salty. We got the pulled pork fries for the night. The fries themselves tasted like they were refried multiple times. Some were extremely crunchy while others were soggy. The pulled pork itself tasted pretty decent but omg, it was sooooo salty. For every bite, we had to take couple sips of water to neutralize the saltiness. If you're someone who enjoy a heavy salt meal, then this place IS for you. Otherwise, I'd suggest to go elsewhere. SERVICE service it self was quite nice. The cart worker was extremely nice and very a pretty chill person. I think the service helped to make this review a 2 star ALL IN ALL, the restaurant in my opinion is just meh. The service, location, and vibe made it a nice visit but the food was definitely a disappointment of our night
google avatar

Max P.

Yelp
I love Potato Champion! I usually get classic poutine there, and it's always cooked to perfection People who work in this food cart are always friendly and polite. The overall ambiance is cool. It's a food cart pod.

Cherie M.

Yelp
Hands down the worst poutine I've ever had. The fries were over done and not seasoned. The gravy was meh and the curds were cold and seemed like an after thought. I was so disappointed
google avatar

Moxy V.

Yelp
Used to be good, but now the fries are consistently burnt-tasting, soggy, and oversalted. It takes forever to get your food, yet somehow it still doesn't taste fresh.
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
Ok, so...we were at Cartopia and VERY excited to check out this poutine truck. Once we got up to the counter to order, it turned out that they were out of EVERYTHING on the menu except their basic french fries and one poutine with cheese curds and satay sauce. We really really wanted something from Potato Champion, so decided to go with the satay covered option, after all, who doesn't like a good peanut sauce? We waited awhile for our order, like 20-25 minutes and when our order came up: The fries themselves were fantastic, just the way I like them, extra done, brown and crispy There was a generous amount of cheese curd on top-nice! The sate sauce was great on its own, but, not fantastic poured all over the fries and cheese. Between the three of us, we did finished most of it, but if we had it to do all over again, would have just gotten the plain fries.
google avatar

Ruby C.

Yelp
I'm not one to hand off one star reviews, but when the food is this bad? Ooof. It was so salty it made it inedible. I got the vegetarian gravy, the texture was kind of grainy and the main flavor profile was salt.
google avatar

Mirco F.

Yelp
If you like fries that are fried, stored, refried...yuk! :( McDonald's has better fries for a quarter of the price, maybe get those instead?
google avatar

Alisa B.

Yelp
I was not a fan. I love poutine, but this place did not satisfy my cravings. Not sure if it was because I came on a rainy afternoon, but the fries were cold and the gravy was gelatinous. The cheese curds were the texture of firm tofu and did not melt on the fries at all. It was practically rubbery. The poutine had a lot of potential though. The fries was seasoned well and the gravy was very flavorful. Maybe it was my mistake for coming on a cold day and the poutine was affected by the weather... but it was not enjoyable. Possibly I will give this food cart another chance during a sunny day.
google avatar

Arun S.

Yelp
This is inside Cartopia food pods. Do try their Palak paneer fries. It's absolute delight
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
If you're looking for upscale, tasty fries, this is the place! Fresh fried potatoes (large portions) with a variety of toppings and side sauce choices. We love the satay sauce and the pesto mayo is fantastic. We tried the paneer special today and it was good but we still loved the satay best. The college kid has soft spot for the poutine fries (little much for me) and says they're better than in Vancouver. Well worth the stop if you're in Portland!
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Potato Champion makes excellent fries and sauces, but less amazing poutine. We ordered the latter today and it was fine but not great. What works are the fries: perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beef gravy has a tang to it that is unexpected but okay. The curds, though, we're cold and unmelted, and never melted at all. Not sure why this is but it's not really appealing. Next time I'll try the palak paneer fries which sound really good.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
This place only sells fries but they were some of the worst fries I ever had. Soggy, lukewarm and flavorless. I waited 15 minutes for these and paid 8 dollars. I ate of them, gave a few to the dog, then tossed the rest. Note: They get two stars instead of one because I reserve one stars for food poisoning.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Used to come here often back in the days. But times ain't the same anymore. Quality went down, price went up :(. The portions are a bit smaller than before, and it's more salty than I remember.
google avatar

Taj T.

Yelp
The offerings at Potato Champion are like the Sistine Chapel, while every poutine I've had in the past now feel like an Andy Warhol splattering of colors. There's something about Potato Champion's food that feels elevated; not a simple assembly of fries and toppings, but a distinct and whole entity. We had the "PBJ Fries" and the "Satay Poutine". Both are topped with an incredible peanut sauce, but if you want to have a little variety, then I wouldn't order both since they're both so peanut heavy. I liked the "PBJ" more than the "Satay" because it was simpler and the ingredients popped more. I felt like the curds were lost in the "Satay": it was just more texture in my mouth. However, I did love them both. The flavors were exquisite, the fries perfectly cut and cooked, and the toppings top notch. Definitely going to hit this up again on many late nights (it's just so much better at night, especially with the charming vibe of the pod)
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
I wish my visit was as good as others. Potato champion in cartopia offers different types of french fry items. Although I ordered the poutine, the PBJ fries was interesting and weird enough to almost get. The poutine came out and each bite was super salty. I'm not sure if it stemmed from the fries or the gravy but each bit was like eating a spoon of salt. The cheese curds seemed like they were just cold pieces of string cheese cut into blocks.
google avatar

Nicole Z.

Yelp
PALAK PANEER is one of my favorite Indian dishes so naturally I had to order the PALAK PANEER FRIES. Good amount for $11, the sauce was tasty with a bit of a kick and large chunks of paneer. My brother ordered the CHILLI VERDE special and the POUTINE and both were crowd pleasers. A fun little spot.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Food Cart Time: Potato Champion We tried the made from scratch poutine from this food cart and it did not disappoint. The fries were topped with beef gravy and cheese curds. It tasted so good and is definitely worth visiting.
google avatar

Kayla S.

Yelp
Ordered the vegan poutine. Fries themselves were A+, 10/10, chefs kiss delicious. The gravy was also really good. Very mushroom forward so if you're not into mushrooms or mushroom flavored things, this probably wouldn't be your style. The only part about the poutine that wasn't that great were the cheese "curds" aka some sort of cubed vegan cheese. I have no clue what brand they use but it was bad. Like inedible bad. We literally just ate the fries and the gravy and if I come back, that's all I'll order next time too. Daiya shreds or some other type of cheese would be preferable compared to the hard vegan cheese cubes.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Was good years ago. Now it's soggy, cold, rude. No point in writing much else. This place left a lot to be desired and got lazy.
google avatar

Ian V.

Yelp
Best food cart in PDX. Menu hasn't really changed in years, and they still have vegetarian poutine that is awesome. The cart has def changed for the better (Cartopia), but friendly and awesome!
google avatar

Gabby K.

Yelp
When I tell you Portland is a hub for all your stomach needs... I aint lying. I was SOoO excited to literally run into Cartopia. Lucky for us vegetarians its REALLLy easy to find veggie friendly places in Portland. As luck would have it Potato champignon offers ALL kinds of yummy finds. However my eyes FIXED on the vegetarian poutine... yesss. And honestly who wants a hot cup of chocolate to warm you up on a chilly Portland night?! I would much rather get lost in a boat of gravy, cheese and fries. The order came out to under $10 and I was handed a pager. While I was waiting I was talking to one of the staff members who said pretty much everything on their menu can be man veggie friendly which is a great tip! I found my way over to a table and began the short wait. About 15 minutes in total and my buzzer was buzzing my name. When I picked up the order I couldn't help to notice little the order was (sad fat girl) . One thing that stood out was the freshly cut and sea salted potato wedges, not only can you taste the freshness but the quality was amazing! I hope to find my way back to PDX so I can try those PB&J fries!
google avatar

Brett P.

Yelp
This is a great place to visit if want some fatty fries after hitting some of the near by bars. I went with the pulled pork fries with bbq and honey mustard drizzle. Their were some great flavors, but they left the fries a little too soggy for my preferences ( kinda expected though). As this place is a total gut buster, I would recommend only getting your fix sparingly.
google avatar

Vidya P.

Yelp
SO good. Chanced upon this place when we were actually across the street getting sandwiches, and I am so glad I did! I absolutely loved their creative take on PBJ with the Thai Satay sauce! The fries were the perfect texture, and the flavors were just out of this world. Loved the communal seating, and they had sanitizer and cleaner on every bench so it was definitely COVID-safe, though a lot of the patrons were not wearing masks (OR lifted regulations, I think). in any case, overall, such a great experienced. Loved the variety of offerings! Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
I was soo excited to find a poutine place in Portland because who doesn't love fries, cheese, and gravy? Sadly I was a little disappointed. It was good poutine but not great. First, I really like crispy fries. Yes, I know they're getting smothered in gravy and will eventually get soft but they've got to at least start off crispy! These were not very crisp. Second, the gravy was not what I expected. We got the classic poutine with beef gravy. It was flavorful but somewhat thin and herby. I was expecting more classic thick creamy brown gravy. Finally, the cheese curds - though fresh tasting - were just sprinkled on top of the fries. They weren't all delicious and melty - in fact they were still kind of cold. The location of the food cart is great though. It's in a cute food pod area that is all ready for the cool Portland whether with a covered tent and multiple fire pits. I think it's a great spot to meet friends on the east side since there's a variety of food available.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
poutine fries.... make me write bad checks.... I am in love! I also tried the pulled pork fries... WOW- I am now spoiled for life. who would have guessed this culinary feast could come out of a trailer! They are set in a food cart pod, with a great covered center area, which lends well to the Oregon weather!
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
Long line the evening we went. Fries were fresh, gravy had great flavor, but the curd was ice cold. Not what I'm used to with poutine.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Potato may be the lifeblood that fuels the dreams of many champions, yet, French Fries are surely the dreams that fuel my aspirations ... and need for a diet. There's no reason (or possibility) to resist fries. So, I don't even try ... which is what led me to Potato Champion for a dessert (!!) far from the routine ... aka Poutine. This food cart's take on Canadian comfort ($9 before extras) features soft Fries (4 stars) with thick Beef Gravy (2 stars) and white Cheddar Cheese Curds (3 stars). The Poutine was filling, but not really fantastic. I think I'll just stick to the Fresh-cut French Fries ($7) next time to go with my favorite discovery at Potato Champion: the addictive and epic Rosemary Truffle Ketchup (5 stars) ... while skipping the surprisingly not-spicy Champ Hot! sauce ($0.50 extra & just 2 stars) or pickled Jalapenos ($0.50 extra). Service at the counter was busy while being quick and friendly (4 stars). No reason to skip the tip on the iPad payment process... so, I didn't with an extra 20% for being open and serving fries like a champ.
google avatar

Vishal D.

Yelp
Poutine is my jam. I will look at restaurants, etc. before I travel and specifically look for places that have poutine, if any. I was so very glad to see Potato Champion not only had it on their menu, but had rave reviews about it. I literally cant say anything different than everyone else who has raved about it. Go get the poutine. Would very highly recommend.
google avatar

Delilah S.

Yelp
vegan poutine! friendly customer service, as expected in the lovely state of oregon, and the ambience is just right. plenty of outdoor seating with hand sanitizer and napkins by your side. we were lucky as the weather was perfect so this was our choice for brunch. the fries were crispy and starchy, the gravy deliciously spiced, and the cheese curds had the best texture, especially for vegan cheese. i was so happy eating this and it was not a heavy dish at all! i split the poutine with my boyfriend and it was the ideal amount. i loved this corner as there are a good amount of options to choose from but potato champion was our go to. absolutely worth a try!
google avatar

Nava O.

Yelp
Potatoes here are treated with tender, love, and care. I'm a fan of poutine and had to try theirs immediately. The fries were crisp, maybe even double fried. I didn't ask, but tasted like it was. I chose for meat gravy rather than the vegetarian option. The cheese curds are average and generous in portions. The gravy was not runny. It was still a little thick and had some kick ass flavors. I was able to get gravy on each fry cause they don't skimp out. They have other options such as pulled pork, satay poutine which has Thai peanut satay sauce, PBJ fries, and different house made dipping sauces. Service was good, the gals were working hard, and the fries were good!
google avatar

Kyle V.

Yelp
We enjoyed sharing the Satay Poutine but probably wouldn't order it again. The peanut sauce was very flavorful with a subtle kick to it. There was way too much sauce though and everything was a soggy mess within minutes. The employee was friendly and our food was ready pretty quickly. It's nice that you get a buzzer so you can go find a table and don't need to stand by the window.
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
Dropped by for a night snack and split a Palak Paneer Fries with another friends. We concurred that the fries were way too salty and overpowering. We also thought that the combination of Palak Paneer and french fries is not a match made in heaven... However, the fries were well-cooked, containing a good balance of crispy and soft-ish fries. The Paneer was also good on its own. Maybe a different choice of combination would have been better or if we had some drinks with it. A really cool spot to be at night though, with a bunch of different food carts and warm fire!
google avatar

Molli O.

Yelp
Delicious fries. You really can't go wrong here. Even when you're basic and just order them plain. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and you can tell they fry these babies up fresh! Long list of sauces but my top two are: curry ketchup and pesto aioli. Perfect snack to have while sitting outside and enjoying a beverage!
google avatar

Alexandria D.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed... Headed her for some good poutine and left wanting. We ordered: Classic Poutine Vegetarian gravy (hand cut fries were cooked well, gravy was congealed and the cheese curds were fine), PBJ Fries (wayyyyy too much satay sauce killed these fries and our palette, needed more raspberry sauce and something fresh on top). We also tried some dips: Pesto Mayo and Ranch are amazing- recommend getting these two dips with plain fries! Curry Sauce was more Mayo-y then expected but was good when eaten with the PBJ fries because it tamed the satay sauce and added a nice mix of flavor. Covid Clause: Patrons were masked except when eating, person working was wearing a mask and gloves. Cleaning spray at every table and hand sanitizer at the truck.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
Blown away at the fries and sauces. The best potatoes I've ever had. I couldn't choose between the poutine and chili cheese fries because they both have their strengths in flavor. The thickness of the fries captures the flavor exceptionally. I can't believe I'm actually saying this about potatoes :) POUTINE Classic Canadian comfort food--fries topped with cheddar cheese curds & your choice of beef or vegetarian gravy. *Vegan version available CHILI CHEESE FRIES Fries topped with house made beef chili, Tillamook cheddar cheese, onions, jalapeño, pepperoncinis & sour cream. Additionally, this food truck is located inside a plaza with various food trucks. You'd love it here.
google avatar

Jeanette L.

Yelp
I was really excited to try poutine for the first time, and I was not necessarily let down. This place had a great customer service and the food came out really hot. I suggest you try this place out to support a local business. I would've appreciated if the cheese curds were smaller and different consistency, but I am not a poutine expert. Give this place a try and form your own opinion.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 10 years. I always get the veggie poutine without cheese curds. I never asked before but the employee told me they have a vegan cheese curd substitute but it's not on the menu. So stoked, because that's what I'd been missing from my comfort food go to. Delicious!
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
A gf and I shared the Palak Paneer fries - they were crispy & delicious! It was a cold, cold night in Portland but the fireplace nearby kept us nice & warm. Unfortunately, Cartopia was quite empty due to the dreary weather but that didn't stop us from enjoying our fries with beers from Bottle Rocket. There is also a tented area within Cartopia for those that want to sit "indoors." We didn't need condiments because the curry was so flavorful - don't recall whether they were free or not, sorry!
google avatar

Nick W.

Yelp
Food was good but awful attitude of the employee who was clearly unhappy to be there. Food 5, attitude 1.
google avatar

Katherine L.

Yelp
I haven't lived in Portland for nearly five years now, and I still think about this place from time to time, hahaha. Solid fries and dipping sauces/toppings. Honestly a big pile of these potatoes with regular ol' ketchup makes me more than happy. I've tried the PB&J fries, and they were unexpectedly delicious and addicting as well.
google avatar

Dara S.

Yelp
Poutine! Poutine! Poutine! Incredibly satisfying poutine. The fries are perfectly crisp and greasy simultaneously. The gravy: perfectly salty, savory, and freshly hot which melted white cheddar cheese curds beautifully. I was skeptical about the curry one but it was impressively balanced with complex flavors. Highly recommend!
