Chicago’s All-Women Versa Fest Will Feature Food Lineup Chosen by ‘Top Chef’ Judge Gail Simmons | Eater Chicago

"A Chicago‑based sandwich chain that announced aggressive national expansion plans to reach 2,000 locations (up from roughly 400 corporate‑owned units and about 40 franchised sites), citing a 30% revenue increase over the past year as it recovers from pandemic losses; the company frames the growth as a post‑pandemic rebound even though the target would still trail much larger competitors by a wide margin." - Naomi Waxman

Haven’t been to potbellies in a long time everything was very good. Good service nice warmed Sub. Give it a try.

harpreet K.

Google
I visited your store today with my daughter and had a disappointing experience. I asked that my daughter’s sub be lightly toasted, but the employee ignored my request and toasted it fully. When I politely asked another employee to remake the sub and asked the first employee to discard the incorrect one, she went over to the other employee, and they both began laughing inappropriately. Their behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful. Even after that, they prepared my daughter’s sub incorrectly again, toasting it underneath the path instead of following the proper request. This experience left a very negative impression. I will not be returning to this location unless the staff is properly trained to treat customers with respect, professionalism, and attentiveness to their requests. Sorry no plan on visiting a place where simple request can’t be followed on top laughing out loud on a customer who was there with her daughter. I clearly heard their conversation and saw there expression with my own eyes. I ended up throwing the food away when I got home don’t need food that was made with arrogant employees of two that I have already mentioned to your manager right away. It has been also mentioned in past same type experience by other customers.

First time trying Portbelly.. Definitely not the last The food was fresh and delicious.. loved their Mediterranean Sandwich The manager here (Jessica) does a phenomenal job with everyone Didn't charge me for REGULAR when I got it by mistake instead of a SKINNY Sandwich

Google
Potbelly subs are among the best and this is the best Potbelly that I've visited. The bread is always fresh and toasted perfectly. Service is fast, even when the line is a bit long. And the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are really, really good. Not cheap, but if you're a Costco member, get four $25 gift cards for just $74.99. That's effectively a 25% discount off the posted menu prices, a great deal!

This loaded baked potato soup is SO GOOD. Like SERIOUSLY good. HOW is this soup so freakin' good????!!!

Google
The wreck is so good. I asked for extra hot peppers on the side and they gave me like 4 little containers. I will be going back again just because of that!

Google
It was my first time the ladies were so very helpful and kind. I had a toddler and they were really kind to him as well. Which honestly isn't always the case sadly.

My sister went inside and ordered and there was 1 girl with a gap and she was extremely rude when ordering the sandwiches. She told my sister that there was no such thing as an Italian sandwich which is right on the menu. There was also another girl who she was making idle conversation with at the order area. The girl at the register was very pleasant though. Won’t be coming back to this location.

Yelp
Placed an order 4/15 for 2 mediterranean sandwiches through the app. Estimated to be ready at a certain time but picked up close to 15 minutes after that time. If I knew that I would have come later. Sandwiches themselves were tasty. Good spicy hummus on the bread and chicken was not tough. It was toasted, but by the time I got home, it was cold again. Ambiance was clean, service was ok besides the lack of timeliness. There was a sign that said 8 minutes from line to Sandwhich - definitely not the case.

Yelp
Right away I loved the vibe of this place, from the small bookshelf that greets when you enter to the beautiful choice of typeface on the door...I could tell this is gonna be my kind of place. Old school vibes man. Then you get in there. There's an old school fighter jet hanging from the ceiling, plus a bunch of old timey and vibey photos on the wall. I went with my friend. He's a potbelly head. He got the Italian on white with everything but onion. I followed suit and did the same, but with onion because I like onion. We both got got Zapps chips voodoo flavor because I had them once in Portland and they were awesome. Today wasn't the same but I'll have them again. Now the sandwiches were great. Awesome bread and meat and cheese and toppings. Heated up too just how I like it. We sat down at a table under a wooden canopy, great craftsmanship and quality materials for sure. Our table said "Enjoy Detroit" in a pseudo Vernon's font which we thought was pretty cool. It was very distressed, old school vibes man. Overall I would give this place 4 out of 5 stars. Great for the family or for just a chill hang with your boys.

Yelp
I ordered online and my food was ready quickly. The apple walnut salad was good. The dressing and the sugar coated walnuts were on the side. Nice mixed greens but very large pieces which were hard to eat without cutting it up. The grilled chicken was like the precooked chicken that comes in a bag. It is not the best chicken. Amble items on the salad. Nice seating area but we didn't eat there.

Yelp
It was my first time dining at this Potbelly restaurant. We dropped by for lunch, and the place was packed. Staff was friendly, the tables were clean, and our sandwiches had fresh ingredients. Overall, we had a great experience!

Yelp
We continuous come back here for the great service and tasty sandwiches & shakes! Ever since moving to Troy, we stumbled upon this sub shop and it's been our favorite by far to get a quick bite to eat for lunch or sometimes even dinner. We frequent the "Wreck" sandwich and flop between the chili, mac and cheese (sometimes combined with the chili too), and the cheddar broccoli soup. The chicken tortilla one was our favorite but it got taken away for some reason and replaced with a chicken pot pie one. Not sure if that's all Potbelly or just this one, but that's been our only huge bummer thus far. The shakes are also really good. Strawberry is my favorite and chocolate is my wife's. The little cookie on the top is also a nice touch. If you're here during lunch hour, order ahead or plan for a little bit of a wait. This location is in a business district hub, so it can get pretty busy but the workers do a great job every day battling the lunch rush. Great location, come hungry, leave happy!

Yelp
Lori (Loreesha) ROCKS!! My order is always accurate, taste amazing and customer service rocks because she is always confirming the orders are made correctly & all with a smile! Try this place out if you haven't!! 10

Yelp
Never had them before so wanted to try. It was pretty good, I like that they have more veggie options than Subway and offer Hummus too. If you are vegan there is definitely better sandwich you can create here than at Subway. I like that they offer different salads too and many soups. Before going vegan I remember trying their sugar cookie and it was amazing. My only complaint is that the sandwich is pretty small, next time I'll go with the big size.

M N.

Yelp
Place is still a disastrous mess, they are slow AF with online orders and will now keep them out of site behind the counter... maybe remove the f'ing huge pickup rack then so people aren't waiting by it for orders your employees are hiding - jfc

Yelp
I've been to this Potbelly a few times, the most recent was this week when I needed to order the turducken sandwich + pumpkin pie sandwich for a blog post. Employees are friendly and when they found out I was ordering food for the purpose of a blog post, they asked me questions about my blog, which was nice. My favorite thing to get at Potbelly is the pizza sandwich, minus the meatball and capicola, and an IBC cream soda. This Potbelly also has plenty of parking, although getting into the lot at 5pm or later on a weekday can be a pain, as Crooks Rd. is very busy. Overall I'd recommend this Potbelly and I plan on coming back next week for a pizza sandwich, actually.

Yelp
I think Potbelly is a great sandwich chain. The food is always fresh and prepared with skill. However, it does not matter how good the food is if what gets delivered is wrong. We had a lunch order for 11 people which took about 30 minutes to input online. I didn't mind inputting the order because at least you know the establishment has the correct order. The order came on time and I was happy I pre-tipped 10%. Once we started unpacking everything it was noticed we were missing not one item but three. Two salads - a farmhouse chicken salad and a medi chicken salad - and a raspberry tea. That was 22% of the order in terms of cost. I called and we got the missing food delivered. However one of the salads was still missing the dressing. Ugh. Potbelly did give two free sandwich coupons but I'm not even sure the two people that were affected will use them. Actually three people were affected. So the missing drink person got no coupon. If this were the first time, I would over look it. But this is at least the third time I've had problems with deliveries from this particular establishment. They do try to smooth things over with cookies and coupons but never a reduction in the bill. Not worth the risk in my mind. (240002) I'll post a pic of the bill.

Yelp
Let's be real. Sandwich shops are everywhere and it can be hard to decide which ones are worth your time and money. While I enjoy several, I always love when we decide on Potbelly! Every time I come here the service is fast and friendly and the staff members are helpful and seem to *gulp* ENJOY their jobs! The food is just so good too! I've had almost everything on the menu! My go to options now are the chicken and cheddar or the Italian and i am never disappointed! The atmosphere is funky and fun if you decide to eat in. One thing you should not leave without is an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie!

Yelp
So I ordered online I'm particularly picky about my sandwiches o don't want it soggy so I picked light toppings so when I went to pick up my sandwich and got back to work. When I pulled my sandwich out the bag and it was Leaking I was so confused and disgusting because why is it that wet ? I couldn't eat it couldn't take it back long day still hungry l, terrible experience

Megan A.

Yelp
This potbelly is always soooo soo good. Never had a bad sub from this location. I always get the original wreck on white. I also love when the Mayo, mustard, and oil all comes together and starts leaking out of the sandwich lol

Lynette J.

Yelp
I have never had a good experience here. My coworkers wanted to order so I gave it another shot. The bread was extremely hard as though it had been over microwaved. The BLTA had the smallest, thinnest tomato, hardly any to speak of. This hard, "sandwich" was mostly lettuce. I will never go back.

Yelp
This store is located in a little strip mall. Employees were friendly, service was fast, great food! I always get my favorite sandwich, the wreck on wheat bread at any potbelly restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
This is probably the worst Potbelly I have ever been to. (Crooks near Big Beaver) Terrible service. No one looks you in the eye, they yawn and talk amongst themselves about how tired they are. Great. Who isn't? People in front of me got their order, people behind received their order....they forgot mine somehow. I understand that we are all human and we make mistakes, but this is the 2nd time this has happened at this location. These employees think they are too cool to do their jobs apparently. Last time I ever visit this location. Lots of other places to go and spend my money. I give this place a BIG THUMBS DOWN.
google avatar

Georgios G.

Yelp
This is my favorite sandwich shop. I would recommend the meatballs sandwich or the grilled chicken with cheddar. If you want a soup you have to go with the Broccoli cheddar which is amazing! Service is fast and polite, the place cozy enough. Couldn't ask for more.

Yelp
Ok fine, 3.5 stars. I'm fussy about my subs, and Potbelly is on my short list of places that do it right. Now mind you, I really like them, and how they do things, but sometimes I feel like they've lost their touch and gone a little corporate since they came out of Chicago. I still love them though, so that's a bonus. I drove a little out of my way last night to come here because they are good. I went with the Whack sub, which was tasty all around. Last time I ate at Potbelly's, I went with the hot peppers on it and didn't realize it had Jalapenos in it, so I got the peppers on the side. Place is spacious and the food is good, menu is great and so are the prices. You can't really go wrong with these guys and I really like how they do stuff. No prefab food here.
google avatar

Yelp
Greatest sandwich I've had in a very long time (Turkey club, Italian seasoning). The Oregon shake was great as well. Fast service by the guy peering the sandwich, shake and ringing me up.
google avatar

Rani G.

Yelp
I almost always order from the app. Got the big ham and cheddar. Excellent as usual, this place is crazy packed from 11:30-1pm during weekdays. But most of the time the food is delish, fast, friendly and efficient. I come here often. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Beck E.

Yelp
Fast, good food. I ordered A Wreck Salad (my standard order at Potbelly) and was pleased, although they didn't give me croutons. My strawberry shake was also good, though a bit runnier than I am used to and only had one buttercookie instead of two. :( My boyfriend ordered a "big" pizza sandwich, but it wasn't very big or filling for him.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Really can't go wrong with potbelly. It's the perfect quick, delicious sub shop. I LIVE FOR THEIR COOKIES! I always get the Italian sub and this time I tried the chicken enchilada soup which was good also.

Yelp
Excellent experience. Great veggie and Italian subs. The guy handling the order (he seemed to be a manager or franchise owner) was very friendly and outgoing. Potbelly IMO by far is the best fast-casual chain, and this location is particularly impressive.

Yelp
My hubby's favorite sandwich! This is my first visit though I thinks it is quite great sandwich and personally it is better than subway sandwich!!

Yelp
Potbelly in general is fantastic. However, I regularly have a problem with this location not responding to orders made on the Potbelly App. Recently I placed a order -- stood at the "quick online order" counter -- for 5 minutes - - when I was finally acknowledged. Then got an OH NO - I didn't see your order.....I'll go make it now. I watched 2 groups of people come in and leave with their orders before my online order was subsequently (and poorly I might add) made. I use lots of online apps so I don't have to wait - -but that does not work at this location. I might add - -I use it at other locations with no problems at all.

Chris B.

Yelp
Ordered online, got half a scoop of macaroni called they told me manager was too busy to talk to me you guys are awesome
google avatar

Stan G.

Yelp
Pretty good food. Got the Cuban with pulled pork which was enjoyable. Large sandwich and chips for a little over $10..can't really go wrong. Won't be coming here everyday, but once a month fasho!
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
This location can get busy at times but they whip thru the line pretty quickly. But I've been there other times when it's completely dead inside. The workers at this location are really nice also. Other than that it's your typical potbelly- the sandwiches are yummy. Not much else to say. If you haven't tried one of their milkshakes I'd recommend one, they're almost $5 each but they're really good.
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
Their Roast Beef is the only sandwich I have tried there thus far that I felt is pretty good. The Grilled Chicken and Cheddar is okay and I'll get it on occasion, but I typically stick to the Roast Beef. The Chili was okay, but was a bit too loose for my liking. If it had had more than just beef and a few beans it would have been better. I also added cheese to it for an extra $0.50 and all they did was put a quarter of a small piece on top. That combined with the already $3.50 cost for just a cup is not really worth it in my opinion. Back on the topic of price, Potbelly needs to be a bit more competitive. Spending close to $14 for a Sandwich, Cup of Chili and a Pop is a bit much. I really have to be in the mood for it or else it just is not worth it. Potbelly to me is and always will be Jimmy Johns less important toasted Cousin.

Yelp
I love Potbelly. I have never had a complaint about their food. Always a good experience. However, today I learned to NEVER order delivery again. They use a 3rd party (i.e Door Dash, Postmates, etc), to make deliveries, which I was not aware of. I stopped using these kind of food delivery services because there is always any issue. Today's issue was that my delivery took 1 1/2 hours to be delivered (2.6 miles away, 7 minutes in a car). On their website you can only order 1 hour out from the time the order is placed. I did not see an option for a shorter delivery time. So my expectation was to get my food within the hour, not 20 minutes past the exact hour from the time I ordered since I was not that far away and I tried to order closer to the end of the lunch rush. I Only ordered a salad and cup of soup, so nothing complicated. (I don't know how their lunch rush really is as this is my first order from this location). I called about 10 minutes after the one hour had passed and they let me know that they handed my food to the delivery person 20 minutes prior to my call. Another 10 minutes passed and I started to dial to ask for a refund since the wait time just became ridiculous, and then finally I was notified my order arrived. At this point, I'm hangry and pi**ed off. I wish I could at least take my tip back. I had to heat the soup up again, since it was barely warm. The salad was fine, but there was wilted, old, spinach mixed in it and I was give a 2 oz. cup of dressing that was not even full. The salads are big, so I expected a least a little more. Overall, my expectations we're obviously too high. If the delivery person was making multiple trips, they should have prioritized better. I suggest if you want to order from here to avoid delivery and get a carry out or just eat inside.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
Ordering was okay but why shuttle people in line to order just to go the same way you came in to get your food? Sandwich was luke warm, shakes were cold and the consistency of a creamer. Literal worst shake I have ever had.
google avatar

Fiat V.

Yelp
Alright place to grab a quick lunch and a bite to eat. +: A lot of selection of sandwiches/grinders. They're nice and warm which makes it a very distinct sandwich with flavorful taste. -: The Sandwich is a bit on the smaller size. For a guy like me, two sandwiches would make it a lunch for me. All in all, a nice sandwich joint.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I hate to give this place 2 stars because 2 stars sounds baaaad, but I'm going by the descriptor of "Meh. I've experienced better." The line to order was long (but it moved quickly) and the staff was nice...but the sandwiches were just okay--I would have been equally happy (or maybe even happier!) with a $5 footlong from Subway....or for the same price, a sub from Quiznos. It was a nice lunch, but nothing I feel the need to repeat.
google avatar

Teresa G.

Yelp
Love this place - especially the grilled chicken and cheddar - with extra hot peppers, which are spicy and perfect. This location runs like a machine at lunch - these folks work really hard and fast, are super coordinated with one another timing-wise, yet they are still friendly. Always know the line will move fast and lunch will be great.

Wendy C.

Yelp
I visited this location today and the person who was at the first order area, who starts the sandwiches, was barely wearing his mask over his mouth and definitely nowhere near his nose. I turned around and walked out. I know it sucks to have to wear a mask, but ESPECIALLY when you are making food for other people, it's important to be respectful of the current situation that we are all in. My job also requires me to wear a mask all day. I do it because it's safer for myself and others and I know it won't be forever. I know several people who have died from COVID-19. Only one was elderly, which is bad enough, but others were not elderly and had no underlying issues. But they were still suffocated to death by this disease because they and/or people around them were not respectful of the safety of others. I chose two stars for "could've been better" because I love Potbelly, but we can all do better. We will be back, but not any time soon.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Fresh, fast, and has great hot peppers. This place is just simple good for a sandwich shop. You can say it's the same as others, but others are just the same as it. It's a toasted sub shop, don't compare it to cold cuts or a place with a flipping microwave IMO. The difference is the fact they pump out great hot subs, with really good soups, all while making damm fine cookies, and shakes. Their oatmeal chocolate chip is awesome, and sugar cookie is one of the best around without going to a bakery. That's a nice add on to a simple sub lunch that I can appreciate on the go. Subway / JJ cookies are total dumpster trash compared to Potbelly. I do wish I could get a whole pickle like at JJ though. Most recently I had the Mediterranean sub. It was hummus, roasted red pepper, artichoke hearts, cucumber, and feta. I added grilled chicken, Italian seasoning, tomato, and pickles. Fresh, and yum! Chicken adds $1 to base price of $5 for regular size, $6 for big. Sub sizes are on smaller side though.
google avatar

Jerry R.

Yelp
I normally love this place. I went in today, there were four people behind the counter and only one person ahead of me in line. After her order was taken, the guy continued to make sandwiches and I stood there for five minutes. The guy making sandwiches never said I'll be with you in a minute or took my order while he made her sandwiches. Meanwhile one other person was standing there waiting for something to come down the conveyor, and the other was organizing stuff. All I wanted was a salad which someone could have been making, but instead I stood there waiting for him to acknowledge my existence. So I left

Yelp
Awesome food, great soup, and perfect live music. I wish we had one near us in Ohio. Definitely will be stoping by again next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
These people are rude and awkward. I took my wife and our nephew in this location for lunch about two weeks ago. It took forever to have our order taken, and once it was, it took about ten minutes for this "fast food". The sandwich was decent, but not worth the wait and rude staff. I wouldn't recommend this location.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Went there because the wreck is the best sub known to man, they slightly messed up my sandwich since about 5 original wrecks were ordered in a row and they got confused between my order and the guy before mine's. This was not a big deal at all since it only took like a minute to fix but they took initiative and made me a completely new sandwich without me saying anything and told me it was on the house and apologized for the inconvenience. 5 star for service and the best sandwiches.

Shannon L.

Yelp
I've had a lot of subs in my life: Subway, Quizno's, Jimmy John's, and many local ones around the country. But I still have to claim that TOASTED is always the way to go! Basically how you do it here is you pick the bread and the sandwich that you want. Then go to the next step, post toasting, and request what you want to dress your sandwich with. Be cautious with the oil because they really just pour it all on there, so much that it seeped through my bag later in the day. I got the "A-wreck" sandwich on the recommendation of some ladies behind the counter saying it was the most popular sandwich. Of course it would be! There are four kinds of meat in it: salami, roast beef, turkey, and ham. Their "hot peppers" are pickled jalapenos that are actually spicy! No room for wimps here. They regular is not as big as I thought and they don't even load it up with as much meat that would warrant this kind of crowd. But the regular does end up being enough for one person and it was such a truly tasty sub. I enjoyed every bite and I'm even staring at my other half right now, at 11pm, debating whether or not to eat it even though I had already brushed my teeth. What a dilemma. I love the selection of chips and drinks they have; simple offerings that help put the meal together. But let me give credit where it is due... to the FRESHLY BAKED COOKIES! I chose the Chocolate Brownie Cookie and it tasted as good as it looked. Thin and chewy. It was pretty true to its name since it tasted like a brownie in cookie form. I'll gladly come back.
google avatar

Rick D.

Yelp
I ordered the Mediterranean salad and it was so refreshing. I also had conversations with Zach who's one of the workers there and his customer service skills were excellent. He also made sure my salad was made to perfection. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. The only thing I found that could be improved is WiFi. Speeds are a bit slower than normal.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
The peppers on the sandwich are good but kind of spicy. That's why I get a strawberry shake with my meal. It helps to coat my stomach and keeps me from getting heartburn after I eat the peppers.

Jon N.

Yelp
As far as sandwich places go, Potbelly's is meh. You could just as easily visit a Quiznos which never has a line, or get a cheaper sandwich at Subway or Jimmy Johns. Regardless, I visited this joint because my girlfriend went to Noodles and Co. next door and since I was fighting a case of the dysentery, I decided I needed something more plain. I walked in and ordered a plain turkey sandwich with cheese on wheat bread - you know, to make me regular again. The workers looked at me like I had the plague (which I sort of did). Sandwich was okay. It helped my case of the stomach pains. I'm not sure why you are still reading though. You probably should have stopped when I first mentioned dysentery. The fact that you are still reading scares me.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered mine special, they got it right. Mayo was on the side, had no cheese. Mayo was in a container but their was no knife to spread it on my sandwich. Bacon was on point but the ham was skimp. Meat overall could've been heavier. It's sad u pay $7 for a sandwich and you are still hungry after. I am not a big guy only 5'6" 160lbs. Ordered a big too not a reg.

Yelp
Great Food, Great Customer Service, and they Occasionally have Live Music! Highly Recommended!

Yelp
I love Potbelly subs, but they (at least this location) need to improve on the deliveries. I placed an order online and received my confirmation email at 11:40am. I selected the option online to be delivered between 1-1:15pm as there were no sooner available times for whatever reason. It said to even allow a 15 minute grace period on all deliveries. OK, I get it, things happen while driving. So I should expect my food no later than 1:30pm. Called the store 3 times because the first time it probably just rang for 2 minutes straight and I didn't get an answer till the 3rd call. She said my delivery was on the road. Without asking me my name or anything, just assumed it was out. I did not receive my food until about 1:58pm. Normally I would not care as much, I'm a pretty easy going person, but I had planned things around the original delivery time and now I have to change my plans. And the delivery driver never said anything close to an apology or anything. Just handed me the bag, hung his head and left. Please work on fixing this...
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
I once had a Potbelly sandwich without the peppers. Mistake. It was just boring and run-of-the-mill at that point. The peppers are definitely what keep me coming back. The milkshakes are pretty darn tasty too. A nice treat for every now and then when I'm out doing errands in the afternoon.

Yelp
The sandwich and coleslaw were very good. The store also had a nice environment to it. Also, I went there at lunch time so it was quite busy, but the wait was not long.
