Potters

"Nikki and her team extend a warm welcome to both locals and tourists visiting this striking North Cornish spot. Behind the scenes, Oly is hard at work in the kitchen, crafting attractive, well-balanced modern dishes which showcase the finest Cornish ingredients. Seafood is a particular focus, with the likes of tandoori monkfish and whole Cornish sole sitting alongside a choice of fish to be battered then fried. Be sure to try the cocktails too." - Michelin Inspector

We just dropped in without a booking early in the evening and they very kindly managed to give us a table. The kitchen is open for you to see as you are shown upstairs to your table. Mainly a fish menu, but the venison was tempting. Excellent food. We had a sole dish and a hake dish. Both were very well cooked and presented. The sides of green veg and triple cooked chips were large. Well recommended but best to book first to ensure you get a table.

Starters were amazing but I’ve found the mains not as special. The ingredients were quite plain and the presentation of my prawn linguine was not amazing. The restaurant otherwise was well decorated and spacious. The staff were very friendly!

Food acceptable but not outstanding as anticipated. Service very poor - waitresses did not ask us how our meals were at any stage. Totally lacking of any atmosphere - table and chairs basic and uncomfortable. Did not pay service charge and will not be back. Better quality fish and chips from the local chippy and half the price

Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Absolutely superb from start to finish. High quality ingredients in each dish with beautifully balanced flavours. Great staff, great ambience and great value (we had the taster menu). The Potters would not be out of place alongside Michelin starred establishments.

Amazing food, really good service, great drinks and cocktails. Had a snack, 3 small plates, 1 large, and 2 desserts, super high quality, reasonable price. Definitely would come back again. Tapas style which we really like. Felt really casual and relaxed but also fine dining quality food. 11 out of 10 loved it.

The place to come for an upmarket dining experience in Bude. Whilst the wait time for the food was a little longer than we hoped for, it didn't disappoint when it arrived. For dessert, make sure you try the battered Mars or Snickers bars. Absolutely fantastic 😍

Second visit here this evening (previous review below). Last time was a magical experience in August ‘21. This time, the menu has been updated and is now ‘Cornish tapas’. The problem is that tapas requires lots of options and small plates and it seemed to me that the menu was highly limited and was just actually new headings on the same menu with starters called small plates and mains labelled as large plates. Not to detract from the quality of the food however, it’s delicious and locally sourced. I left feeling underwhelmed- maybe the first time was very special and this time was just “good” but I feel their concept has taken a turn for the worst. There were some gaps in the service, there was an option to sell us another bottle of wine and they missed the opportunity. Water wasn’t topped up during our stay. My last review: What an amazing find. My husband and I have just dined here and found it to be a very special place. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table which was in the window and I’d say the best seats in the house - the mood is relaxed but also feels special. We were given just the right amount of time to order and the staff were so attentive throughout. The wine list was varied and for a quality restaurant also reasonably priced. We went with the duck starter and the tomato starter followed by two sirloin steaks which were perfectly cooked with the crispiest chips. The béarnaise sauce was great, very well balanced. Toilets immaculately clean, as was the rest of the restaurant- decor was lovely and cemented the friendly but high class vibe. They have had a tough time like so many local businesses through the lockdown but it’s great to see them open and I can’t wait to come back. I would not hesitate in recommending this place - truly great!

We had an absolutely lovely dinner at Potters whilst on holiday in Cornwall last week. We went on a Tuesday night, and were worried that it might be a bit quiet, but we shouldn't have been concerned. They've got a lovely space, very stylish, with a really nice ambience, and there were plenty of people there creating a nice buzz. The staff were great, friendly, helpful, and couldn't have gone to more trouble to ensure we enjoyed our dinner. And then the food! I'd pretty much given up on Bude as a gastronomic venue, but Potters was brilliant! We had the a la carte menu, and every dish was faultless. Beautiful to look at, and even better to eat! Only sadness was that we didn't have time to go back again later in the week, but we will definitely be booking on our next visit. If you're thinking of a North Cornish gastro experience, you might find that rather than heading to the Padstow/Rock/Port Isaac honeypots, that dinner at Potters is at least as good as, and certainly better value, than their more famous neighbours. Highly recommended!
